WHO Presses for More Action on Climate Change

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

In the midst of an ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, with many nations struggling with their response, the WHO has decided to focus their efforts on combatting climate change.

Climate change and health

Messaging for COP26

A Call for Action to the Health Community

In November 2021, the UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26)

The science is clear: we must urgently scale up action to respond to the threat of climate change to have a chance of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees, and to adapt effectively and increase our resilience

The UK is committed to fulfilling the potential of the Paris Agreement by facilitating a balanced negotiated outcome that accelerates climate action, enables greater ambition, and powers the process forward

The UK is also seeking to bring governments, business and civil society together to accelerate progress on shared challenges of climate change: adaptation & resilience, energy transitions, nature, clean transport, and finance. This briefing pack highlights the health benefits of action in those areas

The public health motives for action have a strong science basis and are well evidenced and compelling

We can rise to the challenge by working together, calling for stronger action in our countries, sectors, and professions to ensure the need to protect public health, by countering climate change, is fully recognised and acted upon

A turning point for our planet and our health

COVID-19 has brought into sharp focus the fragile relationship between society, the economy and health. We owe it to future generations to build our recovery on solid foundations

The last year has also demonstrated the need for resilient health and social care systems, as well as renewed focus and public support for global health priorities

COP26 provides the opportunity to unite on an evidence based path to a zero carbon, resilient and inclusive global economy – building back greener and healthier from COVID-19

The document is the usual tired UN renewable energy tropes. Take the recommendation on burning less fossil fuel;

Energy transition and health

Global emissions from coal are ~45% of total CO2 emissions and it is the most polluting source of energy. Transition to renewable power is underway and the market is moving fast, but the transition must accelerate to keep warming well below 2°C

Burning fewer fossil fuels reduces pollution, and offers immediate and local benefits for society and the economy

Health professionals can support the campaign by;

  • raising awareness to governments and the public of the health implications of coal power and other fossil fuels;
  • advocating for the phase out of coal and the adoption of renewable sources of energy which also help to reduce human exposure to air pollutionand joining the Powering Past Coal Alliance

The WHO can go jump in the lake. Since when have they a)suddenly gained credibility and b) obtained world-wide governance powers?

Since when? Since Xi bought Tedros Ghebreyesus the directorship of the WHO, and he returned the favor with the WHO’s handling of Covid-19.

The WHO flat out lied about China’s cooperation…..tried to lie and cover it up….saying China was cooperating and providing information…when China wasn’t giving them one damn thing

…and the WHO flat out lied about it

China is the world’s largest CO2 producer…..the WHO is lying about that too

Agreed Latitude and Nik!

“In the midst of an ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, with many nations struggling with their response, the WHO has decided to focus their efforts on combatting climate change.”

WHO and Ghebreyesus mishandled COVID-19 from the start; “COVID-19 is not communicable human to human”.

So now, the WHO and Ghebreyesus are desperately seeking to distract from their attritable or culpable contagion failures by seeking another fund source they can mishandle. Maintain or increase their fund sources and trying to deflect criticism.

Costello: Look, you gotta first baseman?

Abbott: Certainly.

Costello: Who’s playing first?

Abbott: That’s right.

Costello: When you pay off the first baseman every month, who gets the money?

President: “Secretary! Nice to see you. What’s happening?”
Secretary: “Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China.”

President: “Great. Lay it on me.”
Secretary: “‘Hu’ is the new leader of China.”

President: “That’s what I want to know.”
Secretary: “That’s what I’m telling you.”

President: “That’s what I’m asking you. Who is the new leader of China?”
Secretary: “Yes.”

President: “I mean the fellow’s name.”
Secretary: “Hu.”

President: “The guy in China.”
Secretary: “Hu.”

President: “The new leader of China.”
Secretary: “Hu.”

President: “The Chinaman!”
Secretary: “Hu is leading China.”

President: “Now whaddya’ asking me for?”
Secretary: “I’m telling you Hu is leading China.”

President: “Well, I’m asking you. Who is leading China?”
Secretary: “That’s the man’s name.”

President: “That’s who’s name?”
Secretary: “Yes.”

President: “Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of China?”
Secretary: “Yes, sir.”

President: “Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was in the Middle East.”
Secretary: “That’s correct.”

President: “Then who is in China?”
Secretary: “Yes, sir.”

President: “Yassir is in China?”
Secretary: “No, sir.”

President: “Then who is?”
Secretary: “Yes, sir.”

President: “Yassir?”
Secretary: “No, sir.”

Secretary: “Kofi?”

President: “No, thanks.”
Secretary: “You want Kofi?”

President: “No.”
Secretary: “You don’t want Kofi.”

President: “No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. And then get me the U.N.”
Secretary: “Yes, sir.”

President: “Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N.”
Secretary: “Kofi?”

President: “Milk! Will you please make the call?”
Secretary: “And call who?”

President: “Who is the guy at the U.N?”
Secretary: “Hu is the guy in China.”

President: “Will you stay out of China?!”
Secretary: “Yes, sir.”

President: “And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N.”
Secretary: “Kofi.”

President: “All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone.”

Secretary (picks up the phone): “Rice, here.”
President: “Rice? Good idea. And a couple of egg rolls, too. Maybe we should send some to the guy in China. And the Middle East. Can you get Chinese food in the Middle East?”

Yes, invest in the new gin from Prince Charles to save the planet.

The recipe for the botanical gin reportedly took months to develop, and Prince Charles personally taste-tested the quintessentially British spirit, which the distillery recommends using in a gin and tonic cocktail.

It is entirely thanks to the WHO that my country (Poland) is going soon into a total lockdown. Tedros and his cronies have completely mishandled the pandemic and belong before an international tribunal for their crimes.

WHO was made ONLY to prevent a pandemic like we have now. Instead, they acted sluggishly and always behind the schedule, first promoting fake news which lulled world leaders to sleep (no human to human transmission – February), no border lockdowns. Now, after doing less than nothing and contributing nothing to the fight against the ongoing pandemic, they talk about action against climate change.

My country’s healthcare system is currently stretched to its limits. If I had Tedros before me at this very moment, I’d like to thank dear “doctor” (he doesn’t even have a medical degree for God’s sake!) and express my graditude for billions of people being prisoners in their homes.

He’s a filthy criminal, and an incompetent to boot.

It’s not over yet. The Democrats may end up stealing the U.S. Senate along with the presidency.

If the Democrats steal the Senate, then the U.S. is going socialist. The Democrats will be able to ram through every piece of their agenda.

I wonder how long it will be before they criminalize being a Human-caused Climate Change skeptic?

I guess I’ll have to move to Texas when it withdraws from the Socialist Union. At least that will be a short move for me both physically and culturally.

Maybe I can talk Oklahoma into going with Texas, and then I won’t have to move. And Oklahoma just might. We voted our lone Congressional Democrat out of Office on election day, and replaced her with a Republican woman. And Oklahoma for the first time, had more registered Republicans than Democrats. Although that doesn’t mean as much as you might think, since most Oklahoma Democrats are conservative, Reagan Democrats. They vote for Republicans.

The reality is that the climate change we are experiencing is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control. Despite the hype, there is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rationale to support the conclusion that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero. It is all a matter of science. But even if we could somehow stop the Earth’s climate from changing, extreme weather events and sea level rise would continue unabated so why bother because there is no payoff. Mankind does not even know what the optimum climate is let alone how to achieve it. Money and effort spent on trying to alter Earth’s climate is money and effort wasted.

100% in support of your comments William Haas.
We are not the deniers for stating facts such as you have written above.
The deniers are those scientists and politicians who deny that the three climate optimums in the last 10 thousand years were not as warm as present when there is ample evidence that they were warmer .
They also deny that as the warming effect of CO2 is logarithmic ,higher levels of CO2 can never raise the earths temperature by more than half a degree Celsius at the most as the atmosphere is almost saturated .
The few who understand that higher levels of CO2 can not force more warming , claim that positive water vapour feed back will cause runaway warming when that claim has never been proven .
There is no proof that rising CO2 levels will some how cause an increase of water vapour to warm the earth ,and on the other hand they are predicting more droughts.

“global warming follows the AMO exactly”

Yes, the AMO shows a temperature profile where the Early Twentieth Century is just as warm or warmer than the present day, and the AMO also shows the decades long cooling trend from the 1940’s to 1980.

The AMO temperature profile matches closely with the temperature profiles of all unmodified regional temperature charts from around the globe.

The AMO temperature profile and the regional temperature charts all show the same temperature profile, so this temperature profile is the profile of the global temperarres. These temperature profiles show it was just as warm in the recent past as it is today, which means there is no unprecedented warming going on today, which means CO2 is a minor player in the Earth’s atmosphere and is *not* the control knob of the Earth’s temperatures.

The actual temperature readings of the past show that CO2 is not a problem that needs correcting.

Here is a U.S. temperature chart (Hansen 1999) displayed along side a bogus Hockey Stick chart.

http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/briefs/hansen_07/

The US chart on the left has the same temperature profile as the AMO, i.e., a warm 1930’s, a cold 1970’s, and current day temperatures are no warmer than in the recent past.

Since you can’t sell Human-caused Climate Change unless you have unprecedented warming, the only way the Alarmists could sell this scam was to go and change the look of the temperature charts to make it appear that temperatures have been getting hotter and hotter and hotter, for decade after decade because of human fossil fuel burning, and the Earth is now the hottest in human history. And so they created a Bogus, Bastardized Modern-era Hockey Stick Chart (the one on the right) with the “hotter and hotter” profile. All they really did was create an optical illusion. They changed the temperature profile of the US chart on the left (and all other regional charts) into the “hotter and hotter” chart. This is the ONLY “evidence” the alarmists have and it’s pure science fiction.

The real temperature profile of the Earth, the one the US surface temperature chart shows, makes it clear that we are not experiencing unprecedented warming today, and that makes clear that CO2 is not a major player in the atmosphere and humand don’t have to worry about putting CO2 into the atmosphere.

Without the Bogus Hockey Stick chart there would be no Human-caused Global Warming/Climate Change. It’s the only thing holding up this claim, and it’s bogus as hell..

Suspect any data set that shows global warming or cooling as a long term trend over the past century. This chart has 40 years of high quality temperature reading from the Nino 34 region of the tropical Pacific Ocean:
https://1drv.ms/b/s!Aq1iAj8Yo7jNg3j-MHBpf4wRGuhf
And that is a minus sign for the slope.

The tropical ocean temperature is stuck where it is on a long term basis. It moves up and down annually and decadally but the long term trend is zero. The nature of the tropical atmosphere above an ocean surface limits the SST close to the current level. If it gets warmer, it spawns more monsoon and cyclones that shade the surface. If it cools, the monsoon is less intense and cyclones fewer.

“The science is clear”. What seems clear is that the more we learn about the climate, the less we need to be concerned about human CO2 emissions affecting it in a negative way.
Good news though – scientists seem to be backing away from the worst alarmist claims more and more often, and we’re learning that the ‘solutions’ have issues.
E.g.
Hockey stick – bunkum
Rcp8.5- impossible
Antarctic ice shelf collapse – not happening
Great Barrier Reef- doing just fine, thank you very much
Pacific islands sinking – Pacific Islands growing
Weather extremes getting worse – if anything, extremes actually diminishing
Green energy is great – not actually that green. Also not much good if you want continuity of supply.

What’s also clear is that politicians aren’t that interested in science.

“The last year has also demonstrated the need for resilient health and social care systems”

The last year saw the more famous social care system in the world – the NHS – deliberately protected from collapse at the expense of the very people it was suppose to protect.

Stay home. Protect the NHS. Also Lady GaGa is on WHO TV!

No, sorry. But in a real medical emergency if you need to destroy your medical system to keep people alive then you run that puppy into the ground. You can always build another hospital, but dead are still dead.

“Oh! But what about the future?! You would destroy a medical system. What about the long term?!”

Well, in answer to that, yes I would. If the risk to the population was really that great I will fill the system to capacity and then declare emergency powers to expand the system. There is only a ‘long term’ if people survive in the short. If you are protecting your medical system for the future you are basically admitting there will be a future and hence the medical risk is not that great.

Hospitals are to PROTECT THE HEALTH of the people. If there are no people they have no function.

WHO can go live in China. Screw them.

I have read that the near-surface atmosphere has 2.78 x 10^19 molecules per cubic centimetre. On 02 November, the reported CO2 concentration was 411.55 ppm at the Mauna Loa Observatory. That means that near-surface there were 1.14 x 10^16 molecules of CO2 per cubic centimetre.

From HITRAN for an altitude of 500m above mean sea level, I found that there are major peaks in the CO2 absorption spectrum at wavelengths of 2.68 microns, 4.23 microns and 14.98 microns. Generous band widths for these absorption maxima are 2.66 to 2.82 microns, 4.19 to 4.38 microns and 13.26 to 17.07 microns.

Planck’s formula for emission from an Earth surface at 15 degrees Celsius gives an energy density of 6.45 x 10^-17 Joules per cubic centimetre from the 2.7 micron band, equivalent to 8.7 x 10^2 photons per cubic centimetre, for the 4.2 micron band the energy density is 5.62 x 10^-15 J/cu. cm. equivalent to 1.2 x 10^5 photons per cu. cm. and for the 15 micron band, an energy density of 9.17 x 10^-1 J/cu. cm. equivalent to 6.92 x 10^7 photons per cu. cm. That is a total of 6.93 x 10^7 photons per cu. cm. of which the 15 micron band dominates with 99.8% of the total.

This means that for the lower atmosphere there are 165,000,000 CO2 molecules for every photon that can be absorbed. Consequently the vast majority of CO2 molecules are in their vibrational ground state because there are so few photons to be absorbed. Complete absorption of available photons takes place within the first few hundred metres of the surface. Doubling, tripling or quadrupling of the concentration will make no difference to the absorption other than reducing the distance over which total absorption takes place.

Furthermore, as 99.8% of the absorbed photons are in the 15 micron range there cannot be any warming as that is the peak of radiation from a surface at -80 deg.C.

The UN and its associated bureaucracies have been lying to us for the past 40 years. The termination of the deceitful UN is more than overdue.
