Climate Research Universities Unite to Accelerate Action

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

The University of Sydney has decided that despite Coronavirus they didn’t want to delay the launch of their new climate alliance, because the climate problem is so urgent.

CLIMATE RESEARCH UNIVERSITIES UNITE TO ACCELERATE ACTION

Wednesday 2 April 2020: An International Universities Climate Alliance (‘Climate Alliance’) has been established to help communicate research insights on the most effective means to meet the unprecedented global challenge of climate change.

UNSW Sydney is facilitating the establishment of the Climate Alliance in its first year and has invited 40 of the world’s leading climate research universities to join the Alliance to date. Alliance members are to work together to identify the most effective ways to communicate research-based facts related to climate change to the public. Members will engage in work across climate change science, impact, mitigation strategies and adaptation.

Membership comprises a global network of universities, united by their dedication to producing critical climate research. The Climate Alliance benefits from a multi-disciplinary research focus around the most important research themes to enable greater engagement with policymakers, educators and business leaders looking to apply the latest research findings to accelerate climate action.

UNSW Sydney’s President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Ian Jacobs initiated the creation of the Climate Alliance because of the vital role universities play in advancing the science and solutions in this field, saying “This new Alliance will be at the forefront of the international conversation around addressing climate change.”

Notwithstanding current urgencies around the coronavirus pandemic, the members decided not to delay formation of the Alliance due to the pressing and ongoing need to accelerate climate action.

Professor Matthew England, academic lead of the UNSW Climate Change Grand Challenge, hopes this Alliance will encourage a new era in engagement between researchers and the public; “Worldwide interest to act on climate change is strong but the pace of action has been far too slow. The Alliance aims to accelerate the global response by being a leading voice for scientifically based mitigation and adaptation strategies.”

I don’t get the point of this alliance. Alarmists all pretty much use the same models to make the same discredited predictions, based on the same defective data, and they punish anyone who dares to question, anyone who thinks academic freedom includes the right to stray off narrative. So how does grouping together to speak with one voice help their cause? They’re already speaking with one voice.

They may have figured out that research money will be in short supply over the next several years. And what money there is may be directed to medical rather than climate research.

Oh, they are running scared now. The climate gravy train is reaching the end of the line. Humanity has just found a REAL we need to deal with.

Expect “climate action” to get a lot more “urgent” real soon.

As engineers of the gravy train perceive the end of the this is all about “communication” not science.

“Worldwide interest to act on climate change is strong but the pace of action has been far too slow. ”
Really? If there is so much “interest” why so slow? Maybe the reality is that we are not as interested as seem to pretend we are.

I know what we really need to do is all stop using our own transport except for essential shopping trips, stop flying abroad and just stay at home. Bit of a tough call but if we really want to save the planet this is what we need to do for the next couple of hundred years.

Let’s give it a try and see how “interested” we really are.

Neo,
“Alliance members are to work together to identify the most effective ways to communicate research-based facts related to climate change to the public.”
Now, rewrite that truthfully: –
“Alliance members are to work together, at tropical paradise conferences, and elsewhere, to identify the most effective ways to propagandise research-based ‘facts’ related to one world government to the ever-gullible sheeple.”

Does that help?

Auto – getting a bit more cynical each year!

“An International Universities Climate Alliance (‘Climate Alliance’) has been established to help communicate research insights on the most effective means to meet the unprecedented global challenge of climate change”

Not a research thing apparently but an activism thing.

The problem is that climate science is now an industry that depends on our fears and that provides the livelyhood for many thousands of people who are able to keep cranking out the fear and who must keep cranking out the fear to keep this industry and their families alive.

Why don’t these Drongos wake up to the fact that there is a real problem upon us all now and all hands are required on deck to fight the covid-19 Virus. Alarmists are only interested in their puny pet peeve and continue to use the same discredited models to make discredited predictions based on fake or defective data. They are truly off the Planet.

Wuhan virus (SARS-CoV-2) and Covid-19 disease. The evolution (i.e. chaotic process) of this virus and disease is relevant to epidemiology, to improve viability, to control the spread of social contagion, and to mitigate their progress.

Minor point; UNSW is University of New South Wales. (USYD is University of Sydney)
UNSW just happens to be based in Sydney, hence the confusion.

Don’t over-analyse this. The guys at UNSW want to boost their profiles and job / grant prospects. I think Quilter52 nailed it in one !

Show me the greenbacks. The Green Blight is a low order priority next to Gaia’s Choice a.k.a. Wuhan virus (SARS-CoV-2) and Covid-19 disease. Ironically, they will have to wait for the climate to change in order to renew, recycle their legacy. In the meantime, practice good hygiene; social distance yourself from media, press, and social platforms (e.g. steering), control the spread of social contagion (e.g. mismanagement of resources), and whack a wind turbine… Save the birds, the bats, and other refugees of environmentalism!

How embarrassing- I went to Sydney University. It is now an absolute Marxist cesspit. It was at Sydney University where Andy Pitman made his accidental truth bomb. The room had about 80 people for the talk- only one (spy at that) picked up on the truth bomb and leaked it to WUWT, 2 GB, Outsiders etc. What it shows is that almost all of these university types are immune to the truth. They could not see the plain reality that climate BS is BS when it was clearly articulated.

Oh dear, this same Marxist drivel is being taught as “fact” to the next generation.

Do note, up until the current scamdemic, there were regular talks/ forums on climate change at Sydney University. The same climate rubbish is always promoted. Not all of them get to have a climate skeptic in attendance to monitor their BS. About one in 10 has something that is worthy of leaking to the press.

Sydney people should get on to the Sydney Ideas and Sydney University law school events email list to do their part in monitoring their BS.

Make no mistake, the useful idiots of the extreme left will use the Coronavirus scamdemic as a springboard to promote the declaration of a “climate emergency” which is martial law. They are so delusional that they cannot see that this is akin to Hitler’s Enabling Act. Think about this- the Germans were a civilised and industrious people, yet they fell for the Nazis. As usual for Socialists, as soon as they gain power by hook or by crook, it is seized permanently. It is only relinquished after much death and misery via bloody revolution or war.

It is time to pull the funding from these universities along with the ABC.

HT I agree with you 100% on your last sentence! They left are insidious, a Wentworth constituent whilst on a leftist rant, referred to herself as one of Scott Morrison’s quiet Australians! I get that Wentworth is supposed to be conservative but they are in fact deep green. The greens have infiltrated our conservative politics to such an extent that it’s original values are almost unrecognizable.

The quiet Australians are not leftists. The quiet Australians voted for Scott Morrison because they wanted no part of socialism or of wind and solar renewables! I’m not sure that Scott Morrison himself realises this, he has so many greens in his ear. Someone needs to wake him up or people are going to feel seriously let down.

It’s actually a right wing leader in Europe who has cancelled elections, suspended parliament and can rule by decree…..to fight against Covid19
Orban of Hungary.
Nothing like that happening in left wing Spain , indeed left wing Sweden is very relaxed about restriction against the virus on the advice of their Public Heath Agency.

Duker , that relaxation may be disappearing if the report in the Guardian is a true account of developments there :
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/30/catastrophe-sweden-coronavirus-stoicism-lockdown-europe
( indebted to Jonova for this link)
Amongst the comments from the journalist and senior medical officers in Sweden:
-“The prime minister, Stefan Löfven, has urged Swedes to behave “as adults” and not to spread “panic or rumours”.
Panic, though, is exactly what many within Sweden’s scientific and medical community are starting to feel. A petition signed by more than 2,000 doctors, scientists, and professors last week – including the chairman of the Nobel Foundation, Prof Carl-Henrik Heldin – called on the government to introduce more stringent containment measures. “We’re not testing enough, we’re not tracking, we’re not isolating enough – we have let the virus loose,” said Prof Cecilia Söderberg-Nauclér, a virus immunology researcher at the Karolinska Institute. “They are leading us to catastrophe.””-
There seems to be a struggle for control of the public health policy re: Covid, between the Chief Epidemiologist and other members of the scientific community who prefer a system more similar to that adopted virtually everywhere else.
An important duel, given that Sweden has one of the lowest no of Intensive care units in the developed world and that cases and deaths in Sweden , far from leveling off with this herd immunity programme (that we in the UK abandond early on) , are increasing significantly

It was pretty obvious to those of us that have endured years of a so called elite who think they are so intelligent that their word was good enough to scare everyone and assume the science and data was there and did not like us questioning or asking for hard data that they could not provide. Those same claimers and rent seekers thought they had it made with the disaster of the Australian fires and the backing of Media to promote their cause on the back of those fires. They thought it was a slam dunk, but so much has been written up about the past fires and drought conditions. Our Australian National Libraries digitized newspapers, old Bureau of Meteorology reports, in days when records were published, by the BOM that are now being skewed with the aim of lowering the old records, re-writing them to promote false new records homogenized and we D’niers were supposed to not look at such reports, they wanted to rub our faces in the fire misery along with the ABC and papers like the Guardian and the Age. They revealed they really wanted a disaster and the disappointment when the rains arrived in January to put out the fires, really upset some of the more rabid types and the historic Newspaper reports of the day looked like being included in the Federal inquiries that would follow. Michael Mann was invited out for the plotting and planning along with other leading lights for the big push that was planned for the lead up to Glasgow Climate extravaganza and then Covid 19 pushed their media off the front page. But they are determined to regain the upper hand and this is the start of the pushback and attempt to use a crisis as they intended anyway to sweep any opposition off the stage. We need to support many of the grassroots organisations that are trying to get truth and facts plus science data back into this fight as they are determined to punish Australia and Australians by ruining the economy and it is in a precarious situation now. They want to neutralize the fire inquiry’s and are willing to do anything as long as that puts research money back into their universities and dirty politics will be the way they do it IF we let them get the upper hand. Sadly local politicians have so much on their plate with the Corona Virus and the lockdown of commerce and population, they may succeed as so many of us are weary and tired of fighting back on all fronts.

Thee is some evidence that you may be correct, Megs in saying that the public are fed up with the AGW propoganda . A note in Notrickszone quotes a media research group:
-“And despite all the hype surrounding Greta and Fridays for Future, a recent study by the organization Media Matters, revealed that there was only 238 minutes of climate crisis coverage by major US networks in 2019!”-
https://notrickszone.com/2020/04/01/climate-crisis-rip-people-will-be-in-no-mood-to-stay-in-panic-mode-after-covid-19-scare-ends/
