Interest in #EarthHour2020 being beaten by #Caturday and WUWT.

Tonight is EarthHour2020. Does anybody give a frick about it? Apparently not when it’s being beaten by silly pictures of cats on Twitter

Tonight at 8:30PM your local time, you’ll be asked to turn off all your lights by the World Wildlife Federation to “save the planet”, or something. Given what people are going through globally right now, I predict participation will be at the lowest level ever. I mean really, who wants to add “sitting in the dark” to their lock-down misery? Read on for a surprise.

Wikipedia says:

The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet. It was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns across 187 countries and territories to raise awareness for energy consumption and effects on the environment.

But here’s something interesting, EarthHour is less popular globally than WUWT by a factor of 6.26 to 1 !!! (A lower number is better.)

Source: https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/earthhour.org
Source: https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/wattsupwiththat.com

And, neither #EarthHour or #EarthHour2020 is trending on Twitter. It’s being beaten by silly pictures of cats #Caturday.

So here’s my message:

TURN ON ALL YOUR LIGHTS! At 8:30PM local time for an hour.

CELEBRATE LIGHT, HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!

And as always, a reminder that every hour in North Korea is “Earth Hour”.

James Hutton’s 1788 work ā€œTheory of the Earthā€ emphasized the geothermal heat source.

Fourier, denying geothermal, formulated a stupid hypothesis based on glass box experiments.

Climate ā€œscientistsā€ follow Fourier, a mathematician, who never refuted Hutton.

But it’s all good because it supports alarmism, right?

If you didn’t lack self awareness you’d realize you’re projecting.

The greenhouse effect is indeed nonsense. It only doesn’t appear so because it captured substantial political traction.

National Guard to support Springfield Police Department amid COVID-19

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) ā€“ Springfield city officials are bringing in the National Guard to help with COVOD-19 management in the city.

Springfield Mayor Sarno said in a news conference that he requested 75 national guardsmen to support the police department after some officers are out due to various concerns of the coronavirus. Springfield Police Commissioner Clapprood told 22News that the department is down about 20 officers after testing positive for COVIDS-19 and 12 others are waiting for tests.

Clapprood said the other currently off-duty officers have health concerns that make working during COVid-19 challenging are in self-quarantine for coming into contact with someone with COVID-19.

National Guard members will be armed and under the direction of the police commissioner. Capprood says she hopes their appearance will be calming as they help the department fill any help they need during this pandemic.

OWG:

From Wikipedia: “Militia Act of 1903”

In 1933, an amendment to the National Defense Act of 1916 created a separate reserve component of the United States Army called the National Guard of the United States. Since 1933, all National Guardsmen have been members of both their State National Guard and the National Guard of the United States.[41]

[41] New Jersey Adjutant General, Annual Report, 1933, pages 2-25

The Posse Comitatus Act (1878) outlaws the willful use of any part of the Army or Air Force to execute the law unless expressly authorized by the Constitution or an act of Congress.

Prime example – The “Lincoln County War”. The Commander of Fort Stanton (NM) responded to a plea from Lincoln City for help. He sent troops and a cannon. I never have tripped over a report as to what happened to him – reprimand or relief.

Speaking of the “Posse Comitatus” – California removed that article from the State Statutes last year.

Turning off “non-essential” electric lights is only common sense frugality. If this “movement” (which smacks heavily of activist astroturf) has been around since 2007, it’s long since seen its day. If ANYONE took this green virtue signalling seriously, society would look like . . . RIGHT NOW!

A heavy-duty aluminium (note the English!) foil on the bottom of the oven is easier to manage. Just pull out and throw. Just lift the element free (after switching off) and insert, shiny side up.

After attending ā€˜Earth Dayā€™ sometime in the 90ā€™s, we realized they are all outright kooks. Now 4/20 to us is about releasing as much life giving CO2 as we can! There is a reason why nobody is paying attention to earth hour. I am more concerned about our lives being transformed into a gestapo police state all in the name of fighting COVID-19. I now need to carry papers showing my work is essential. And people are not only tolerating it, but allowing it without a fight! If ever I get stopped, I will politely ask the police officer why have we become a police state. Fear — which is based on half-truths and nothing rational — has made people forget about such nonsense as earth hour. Unlike me, fear has made many people more concerned about toilet paper than earth hour. I am just angry.

Here is the point: Look how easy it is to become a police state all because of a little fear. You better believe the leftists are taking notes on how easy it was for people to surrender their rights. Fear of the future has not worked because it cannot be immediately proven. People are not going to surrender their rights based on something like climate change. Guilt has not worked either. The leftists will have to use fear of something clearly evident, even if they have lie and say that the problem is worse than it really is. And it has to be quick so people will not stop and think like what is going on with COVID-19. I keep hoping for a pushback and I get none. Every time I spout provable facts about it, I get shouted down.

Any society who would give up a little liberty for a little security will deserve neither and lose both. — Benjamin Franklin

I am out and about every day, just as I always am. Recovering from a broken humerus and going to phystherapy 2-3 days a week, they are still operating and I am still going. Since I am driving the 20 odd miles one way I do shopping for several of my neighbors who are high risk, this also keeps them off the roads, so its a win-win sorta situation! Monday making the extra 15 mile run to buy non-ethanol gas, 5g for me and 5g each for four other people who only run it in their equipment. Life goes on.

If you citizens allow this to stand you will no longer be citizens. I read reports from some locales here in US that crack downs on people traveling out of hotspots, NYC metro region being the main one, are ramping up. Not going to be effective if they can not test individuals to ascertain whether or not they actually have Chinese virus. Simply demanding papers is silly, just as it is down there. Until widespread testing with immediate results is available all of this is rather academic, Chinese virus is spreading undetected even with stay at home orders.

“If ever I get stopped, I will politely ask the police officer why have we become a police state.”

I would not advise you doing that. Our current state of affairs is not the officer’s fault or their call. Challenging him or her on it just marks you as a troublemaker and might end up with you going to jail. Instead, be polite, and patient, and more than likely, you will be able to go on about your business. Keep in mind that you are not the only one going through these things. We all need to try to put ourselves in the other guy’s shoes a little bit.

I think this situation is going to resolve itself quickly, so hang in there for a little while longer. In a couple of weeks the situation may be dramatically changed for the better. And I think we will have that in a fast Wuhan virus antigen test, and medicine that clears the Wuhan virus from the body.

When earth hour started, my neighbours on my street would all turn off their lights. So I responded by turning all of my lights on for that hour, including Christmas lights which were still up. Barbara said, “Iā€™m already planning on hamburgers on the grill for supper…”

Hamburgers????? Wah! The grocery stores for miles around where I live haven’t had ground beef for weeks. Double….skip that….Triple Wah!

Stay safe and healthy,
Bob

No ground beef for weeks.
Where do you live?
Rural America — Kittitas County Washington —
Residents, like elsewhere, have supplies of toilet paper and wipes enough to last through December of 2022. Stores have none.
Nothing else seems to be in short supply.
PS: you need to slowly build a 2 week supply of food, water, medicines.
I’ll bet there will be sales of freezers soon. Grab one.

From the beef we had butchered last spring we still have 40-50lbs of ground beef, plus various roasts, steak cuts, several pounds of cubed beef for stew and soup and kabobs. Add to that the 1/2 pig that will be ready to pickup tomorrow we are in good shape. And yes, we check with neighbors and friends to see if anyone needs some help. Its a country thang.

I recommend celebrating ‘Earth Day’ with distilled amber beverages, sipped ’round a roaring fire. If we really want to stir the genetic primal spirits of our ancestors, there are few better ways than subdued conversation and extended contemplation of piled embers, while savoring your favorite variation of a mellow whiskey. In the spirit of this moment, I’ll be enjoying a bit of Old Forester I think, a Kentucky bourbon continuously bottled and distributed since 1870. Here’s hoping the Great NorthWet isn’t brewing up and decanting a rain deluge this eve, to dampen ‘the plan’.

If your concerned about this leading to insufficient ‘social distancing’, think of it as generously applying a gastronomically preferred version of ‘Wuhan sanitizer’ to lips, gums, and throat, before any close encounters of the friendly kind might occur. Stay happy out there, Y’all!

Got this notification just in time. It’s 2015 here in the UK right now. Just enough time for me to go and switch on every light and electrical appliance I have. I’ll run them all for 10 minutes, starting at 2030 local time.

Well, well..

Looking back (now) at the data from the post above –

Taking into account it is a Saturday, the UK seems to be moving along with no dip at all.

In fact it is now (22:15) running at a higher level than yesterday.

Other things observed –

1) Brilliant sunshine all day yesterday – solar very high for the time of year.
2)Strong cold NE winds with cloud developed during the day today so more wind power is finally being generated.
3)Load stabilization is being achieved by imports from France and the Netherlands.

Did someone mistime? There was a sudden drop off of power used at about 1700 today! (/sarc).

That made me laugh…I totally forgot about it too! I usually turn on every light and machine I can think of…rats! More important things to think about, like ‘phoning friends and family in the UK to check how they are.

Here’s a question, since all the climate cultists are yammering about the reduced “carbon footprint” right now: what happens when there is no change in temperature, despite the reduction of CO2? Won’t that rather destroy their Narrative about the control knob being CO2?

And, yeah, some have figured this out, hence why they are trying to nullify what’s going on.

They have that covered. The heat goes and hides in the ocean and then comes back with a vengeance heating the air which then heats the ocean which goes and hides and then comes back…and so on. The science in our models is settled, Trenberth said so.

Earth Hour is just starting where I am. I may turn on a couple of green incandescent lightbulbs. That would confuse the greenies, wouldn’t it?

I forgot all about the Power Hour this year. If I had been at some woke idiot would have sent round an email about it. At least at the time I had a nice coal and wood fire going as the UK is cold at the moment with easterly and now northerly winds.

March 29, 2020 7:24 am

Earth hour? Do people still bother with that idiocy? I missed it completely. As always.

To do my part I turned on my old Shortwave Receiver (National NC-173) that’s loaded with tubes and basked in the warm glow it produces when the top cover open.

Gosh, was I supposed to turn off my lights last Sunday. I didn’t notice that it was something I was supposed to do. Will I go to jail?
