Perhaps some of those parents should be cutting off the Internet, heat & light so that their kids get a better idea of what Greta’s low-carbon utopia might be like.
…and make them walk to school, the store, church… everywhere they go!
And teach them how to make their own bread, cheese, cream, butter, pasta…the list goes on and on!
Growing a big vegetable garden would be a grest experience, too, along with some chickens for eggs and the occasional Sunday dinner of fried chicken!
Raising a milk cow is obviously a necessity, too!
Ah, what a bold new world that would be!
The making is less the problem once you have what you need 😀
And that’s more the problem., cream and butter with milk from supermarket won’t run 😀
So the cow is obligatory, better more than one 😀

Never mind the kids. My wife is starting to pine for a school restart. So far not too bad, but putting the 10-year old and 14-year old at the kitchen table to do their remote learning is starting to get stressful.
And some folks think teachers are overpaid.
Some are overpaid, some are underpaid, that is why they have unions so that the drek gets the same pay as the outstanding ones
In the UK, Aus and NZ, teachers receive 12 months pay for doing 9 months work.

They attend a lot, working is another thing. They make a big deal out of what people in industry take for granted. There job has its moments like any other.
Having worked as a teacher for 39 years I am no longer surprised by the ignorance which many people display when it comes to the occupation of teaching.
Come on teaching is easy. What’s awful is the brats you get to teach these days. Rather be a lion tamer. More intelligent and a lot more pleasant.
I play squash with several teachers (K to 12) and they often say they cannot play late in the evening as they have to mark some papers. I think they earn whatever they are paid.
Lots of respect for teachers as I would not like to put up with handling children all day, especially with the way they are performing wrt CAGW and Greta’s antics.

Teachers are largely to blame for that.
The key point is you play squash with good teachers. The problem is there are probably equal numbers of bad teachers who teach the same grade year on year and simply recycle the same worksheets each year. Marking involves placing a stencil cutout over the multiple choice test. I have a couple of teachers as friends and a couple of each group.
One of my mothers friends must be now late 60’s and she did her country stint straight after grad to get her permanency. She use transfer points to come back to the city and has now been at the same school for over 40 years teaching the same year 🙂
Wrong! Teachers get paid for a contract year and, when I taught, chose to take their pay over 10 months or over 12 months. Most chose to take the payments over 12 months, but they still were paid for a contracted school year. On those off times, most teachers attend school; at least I did.
That was you. Unless my teacher friends were lying, that’s what they told me. It seemed to fit in with their lifestyle as they were on holiday for most of the 3 months, skiing was popular with one primary school teacher friend of mine. I certainly could not afford it in both money and time.
It depends where you teach. After c. 40 years teaching college music, I took a buyout and spent 18 months looking for work, ending up at a proprietary business school as a Director of Ed (sort of dean) with occasional teaching duties. Not knowing computers or medicine, I ended up teaching English–grammar, literature, even a dollop of research–and loving it. We taught in mods (=modules) of five weeks, and for several mods I had the same English teaching assignment. Did I teach the same lit selections every time? No–we had a huge textbook (one of the Norton series), so I chose new pieces every time, both to escape tedium and to explore new lit in a field new to me. It worked very well, and no one from the new classes could prepare for exams by looking at my old ones. After that job ran out on me, I ended up at a high school 30 miles from home, where I was the high school English teacher, where I got to choose the literature component of the course. I taught (spread over four years, until I retired) Jane Eyre, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Master of Ballantrae, Hamlet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, A Doll’s House, Sense and Sensibility, and numerous poems from medieval to modern times. It was a blast, and I still correspond (Facebook) with some of the students I taught 10-14 years ago, many of whom are married, with children. I loved teaching; the money from a small Christian school, was slight, but enough. Not sure what I would have done with Greta; I didn’t have fanatics in my classes, as far as I know.
Goodness Patrick, I had no idea what a slacker my wife is. Almost eleven months a year, six nine to ten hour days a week (Including marking). Not including preparation for and attending parent teacher evenings and similar out of classroom activities. Compiling lesson plans, administrative details, ministry inspections and ‘pastoral’ duties and that’s without trying to instill simple basic life skills to children whose parents are far too often little better than sperm and egg donors.

If the public realised there were an average of 17000 flu deaths each year they would freak out. If they knew that out of 600000 annual uk deaths the govt classify some 148000 as avoidable

I don’t think the extent of current numbers is a particular problem; the concern is where the numbers are heading. If immunity does realise, and it last longer than just for one season it will be ok. Alternatively, we have a big problem next autumn and winter when the flu + CV deaths combined will overwhelm the NHS at the expense of all other illnesses.
The UK economy which is 70% services orientated may be affected more than countries with a stronger manufacturing base. Subsidies and financial support announced in the recent days will debase currency since a weak economy tax revenues might not be able to be repay the debt and at the same time maintain reasonable standard of living.
I hear that president Trump may take Chinese path, and if not give full priority at least keep in balance requirements of economy and the nation’s health.
Chinese (data may not reflect true state) have gone even further and are pursuing the ‘heard immunity’, as it was considered in the UK earlier last week where the preference is given to the industrial activity,

In Australia, each flu season, the hospitals come close to collapse as nurses (mainly mothers) stay away to care for sick kids. It does not help that progressive Governments only give casual contracts, that they can and do walk out on in a flash.
Most schools are not closed yet. When they do (the Unions and Progressives are pushing hard), watch the hospitals here fall over like dominoes.
Who will care for the teachers when it’s there turn to get sick? Watch the kids roaming the streets, in groups, unsupervised, just like school holidays.

I work for a company that made working from home mandatory here in Sydney last week. So with parents and kids at home, all day, on team calls I hear the same thing “How can I entertain kids to keep them away from me and my work?” almost every day. Things from tablets, both the medication and computer types, to handcuffs are suggested. LOL I haven’t seen roaming gangs of kids yet, I see long long queues at CentreLink Centres (Welfare Depts. in Aus) every morning. There are a lot of people out of work now.
I am, physically, in the office ‘coz I have to do some physical things (I volunteered as my “accommodation” does not lend itself to comfortable and secure working from home conditions on a permanent basis until further notice). The building I work is has been partially locked down in that only access card holders can enter and move about the building.
Say … wouldn’t swimming pools be safe? Free chlorine etc. Kills most things. Maybe why cruise ships had so many young not get it…all that pooltime
