Biden has a hill to climb, to convince green Democrat activists that he is worth getting excited about.

Climate Voters Still Want More From Biden

By Lisa Friedman
March 19, 2020

WASHINGTON — Ardent climate change voters thought Campaign 2020 was going to be their election.

Now, some climate-focused voters said they are struggling with their feelings as former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. appears certain to become the Democratic nominee. In interviews with two dozen activists and voters who consider the planet’s warming their top issue, almost all said they worried that Mr. Biden has not made the issue a sufficient priority or been specific enough about his plans.

“The response to Biden on climate change ranges from suspicion to resignation,” said Megan Mullin, an associate professor of environmental politics at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment.

“He doesn’t talk about it very much, and he doesn’t talk about it very convincingly,” she said.

This is going to be a bad year for climate alarmism.

Biden could do more to reassure hardline greens, if he wanted to. But why should he? In the midst of the terrifying Chinese Coronavirus outbreak, climate action is simply not a priority for normal people.

Bernie Sanders’ green socialist revolution might have appealed to workers worried sick about their job security, but Sanders is likely on the brink of ending his campaign.

At some point, do guests become residents?

      • That reminds me of being put up in a London Hotel by my company many years ago. As I and my colleagues returned from a good evening out at the pub, the concierge asked: ‘Excuse me sir, are you a guest in the hotel?’

‘A guest?’ I replied. ‘No, we’re bloody paying for it!’

  2. Hasn’t been specific enough about his plans? He doesn’t even know what day of the week it is.

  3. It seems those who really wanted The Green New Deal also really wanted a social overturning of the U.S.
I am glad to see their chances of either are negligible.

  4. Isn’t this a good time to connect with Biden and get him to really learn about climate?
He could help a lot of he did a red team blue team exercise.
Let the zealots do their best to convince the skeptics, and vice versa, and let the chips fall where they may.

      • MarkW: “[…] I’m not sure he would remember it the next day.”

Unless you hair smelled really, really good. Gropin’ Joe has an image to uphold.
        .
        .
        .
OK. Maybe not even then. He doesn’t even remember what office he’s running for.

    • Leave Joe alone. he is having a hard enough time remembering where his home is and what his doing. He is suffering from incipient senile dementia. he won’t be learning anything new.

    • Hah! But not, it seems of “(Megan Mullin), an associate professor of environmental politics”.

      Environmental Politics????

  5. “…In the midst of the terrifying Chinese Coronavirus outbreak, climate action is simply not a priority for normal people…..” Polls have shown that CC is not a priority to people regardless of the other choices. Everyone wants to save the world but actually doing something about it that would negatively affect their lifestyle is not and option. Fossil fuels are safe without anyone lobbying for them until an effective replacement is found or we run out of them. Period.

  6. “He doesn’t talk about it very much and he doesn’t talk about it very convincingly….”
Perhaps he doesn’t believe in any forthcoming catastrophes and has his attention riveted on CoV-19 as one of the vulnerable elderly segment of society.

  7. The way polar bears and polar ice, both Arctic and Antarctic, are going this year, Biden will indeed be better off keeping his mouth shut on “climate”, although Trump’s going to rip him a new one anyway.

  8. Democrat Presidential wannabe Joe Biden despite his senility and incompetence is probably less of a danger than Bernie Sanders who is a lunatic. Joe Bien is controlled entirely by the Swamp Creatures and is borne on their backs well ahead in the Democrat Nomination. The recent Coronavirus has reminded people what a real crisis looks like and has, in all good luck, done considerable damage to the Climate Change Alarmism Push. A bad year for Climate Alarmism would be something to look forward to in the Gloom.

  9. The Democrats threw the working people under the bus. They thought they could get away with that. Their mantra was, ‘If they vote Republican, they’re voting against their own interest.’

The Democrats will, possibly correctly, assume that climate obsessed voters will have no choice. They could vote Democrat or they could refrain from voting and risk a Republican victory.

Still, I’m surprised. It looked like Sanders had all the momentum and was way ahead in the polls, and then kazaam, it all vanished. link

At this point, it looks like the odds favor President Trump’s reelection. Fingers crossed.

    • What happened was the old communist praised an old communist in Castro.

Leftists and communists get elected in the US, generally, by NOT telling people their extreme positions. I laugh everytime I see in the media talk of conservative extremists. When was the last time you saw any liberal organization called extreme in the media? Occupy Wall Street, XR, Antifa, Bernie, etc. all way off of the mainstream but not called out as such. Extremist conservative groups are very small in numbers, extremist leftist organizations are usually very large in numbers, manned buy the masses of uninformed millenials of each new generation.

People grow up, get a job, pay some bills and move out of the lunacy. People like Bernie never have a real job their whole lives, Mayor, Congressman, Senator, Millionaire, all without any productive function, always overhead, never a productive added value worker. Also think Barack Obama. Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, etc. Think of 3 of last 4 republican presidents, Reagan, W Bush and now Trump. The first 2 came out of the private sector as non-lawyers, became governors, helping to build a cadre of loyal supporters to appoint to positions in the federal government when they reached the Presidency. TRUMP! did not have the a governership to build that cadre, thus the 3 years it has taken him to get control of his staffing. I think he is most of the way there with that problem, expect to see a major shakup after the election, and the next term will be different.

The major media really do want to pick the President. CBS and Dan Rather declared Al Gore the winner of Florida in 2000 before the polls had closed on the Florida Panhandle which is in a different time zone. All networks had spent an inordinant amount of time stating that if Bush didn’t win Florida, he could not win the election. How do I remember it all so clearly? I was driving home from work on my way to vote. I was in Nevada. I did not, and still do not, believe in early voting, so was voting on election day.(I now vote early, but I still don’t like it!) On the radio came the announcement that CBS had declared Florida for Gore. I almost didn’t vote. I am what Rush calls was a crawl through glass conservative voter and almost didn’t vote. How many voters didn’t vote in Washington state because of CBS and Dan Rather called Florida for Gore at 7:50 eastern time before ALL polls had closed in Florida. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxXQ_u1VqaM There is no way this could be a mistake, there were enough poeple involver in making the map and producing the election night show that SOMEONE knew the truth about the panhandle (I did) and ignored it do to political biase. It cost a Republican a senate seat. This is the fact of the 2000 election. If you remember at all, you will think Fox called Florida first, but the reality was they called Florida for Bush first.

The major liberal media does, in my opinion, have a 2 to 3 % sway on the populace during national elections. The number of votes on the west coast lost during the 2000 election put Maria Cantwell in office that year. Thus Hilbilleries 2-3% win in the last election, with a truly 50-50 populace.

If I could have my way, all polls in federal elections would open at the same time nationwide and close at the same time. Ex. All polls open at 7:00 am eastern time and close at 7:00 pm in Hawaii. No early voting allowed. 18 hours is plenty of time. No polling services would be allowed within 1000 feet of a polling place unless sufficient parking was less than 1000 feet of the polling place, then keep the clowns 500 feet farther away from the parking area so they can’t harass voters. The discussion during the 2000 recount was often, how did the actual vote results go wrong? not How did the exit polling go wrong? Any projection of winners before the polls closed would be legally designated as treason, end of story, end of the leftist media’s manipulation of Federal elections. The end of California’s VOTE HARVESTING which cost 4 or more republicans their house seats in the last election.

Legally, by the Constitution, a state decides how to cast their vote for the PRESIDENCY, we are a Republic, but not for the House and Senate. That is why the leftist Supreme Court eneded the recount. The Florida legislature was ready to go into session and declare the winner. Even the Supremes were afraid to let that happen because then any state would delare for the president one of the ruling party, despite a different popular vote. Open the door, what happens next. States like California could allow vote harvesting for the Presidency, but would need to create different ballots not including the House and Senate races to do so. It would probably be unworkable so they would probably fall in line, but you never know with those exteremists.

  10. I hope Joe Biden takes a hardline stand on (human-caused) Climate Change. Maybe he should appoint AOC as his Climate Change Tsar.

The more radical, the better, because one thing the primary elections are telling us is many Democrats are not in favor of the radical leftist agenda, dumping Bernie as soon as he started singing the praises of communism, so if Ole Joe appears more radical, then some of the more moderate Democrats will vote for Trump or not vote at all.

It appears to me that about one-third of the Democrats are radical leftist/socialists. Much less than I thought previously. That means fewer people in the Democrat Party have lost their minds over socialism and authoritarianism. That’s a good sign.

Yeah, Joe, we need you to come out in favor of abolishing cows and airplanes, and the favorite toy of Americans, the gas-burning automobile. Show your “Green New Deal” creditials.

Joe wants us to all sit at home like we are doing now. We won’t be sitting because of a virus, instead, we will be sitting because we won’t have any gasoline to run our cars.

I like my freedom of movement, and of choice, Joe. I’ll bet a majority of Americans do, too. If you propose to take that away from us, I think you won’t have a chance of being elected.

    • You have to remember that to a communist, socialists are conservative. So by definition anyone who is neither a communist nor a socialist is an extremist.

  11. I just realized that isopropyl alcohol requires an ingredient that is a byproduct of fossil fuel.

Without fossil fuel, therefore, there would have been zero stocked shelves to get stripped bare by the coronavirus piranhas.

  12. “two dozen activists and voters who consider the planet’s warming their top issue”

Is that the lot of them?

    • Beat me to it! I was going to say shouldn’t itread ” THE two dozen activists and voters…”

  13. My fear is that if the hypocRATS/socialists do take the presidency in November, they will call global warming a far greater threat than the wuhan flu, and will try to use the same police powers currently being used in SF, Illinois, etc. to impose shelter in place, to shut down oil and gas companies, combustion engine manufacturing, air travel, etc. And there are still enough wacko libtard federal judges around to allow it, at least for a while.

    • Hi Publius,

As an energy expert, I can assure you that it will take the powers of a Chinese-style dictatorship to impose that “Green New Deal” energy lunacy on your great country, and will require that the police and the US Army turn against the people and impose martial law.

I don’t see it happening, even if the Democrats try to pull it off. If they partially succeed, the death toll will make the Wuhan flu crisis look like a walk in the park – it will probably exceed the 2% of USA population lost in your Civil War – today, that would exceed 4.6 million people.

Cheap, abundant, reliable energy is the lifeblood of society – it IS that simple.

When politicians fool with energy systems, real people suffer and die.

      Regards, Allan

“He doesn’t talk about it very much, and he doesn’t talk about it very convincingly,” she said.

Very-scary global warming (aka CAGW aka climate change) alarmism has always been a false crisis, concocted by wolves to stampede the sheep. It is a global-scale scam created by scoundrels and believed in by imbeciles.

The leaders of the global warming movement know they are lying – no rational person could be this stupid for this long.

The evidence that global warming alarmism is a false crisis is overwhelming – the following paper enumerates 25 facts that falsify the CAGW hypothesis – I could have added many more, but as Albert Einstein famously stated “One would be enough”.”

Time for coffee. I leave you to ponder a few quotes from this remarkable man:
    https://www.azquotes.com/author/4399-Albert_Einstein

“I think 99 times and find nothing. I stop thinking, swim in the silence, and the truth comes to me.”

“Everyone has two choices. We’re either full of love… or full of fear.”

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

  15. Trump has made a huge mistake in denying climate change, which is tragic because he is on the right track on other issues. You can only break out of this by choosing drastic experimentation solutions like LENR technology and geoengineering.

  16. As a Brit, I watch the push towards extreme left-wing politics, possibly Marxism, in the USA. Saunders possibly more than Biden (but would Biden have the nous to recognise it(?)). The Socialists, led by a number of Marxists, tried in the UK in December 2019 General Elections and were well and truly thumped. I truly fail to understand why anyone, who wants a (reasonable) standard of living for themselves and their family, would (could) think about voting to become another North Korea, Venezuela or even Cuba etc(??) Their freedoms and any personal wealth would be destroyed overnight. Total power from one man. Far fetched? Look at the extremists in Russia (Lenin) and China (Mao) who took control in a very short space of time and destroyed their countries for generations, until they adopted (a form of) capitalism.

    • According to the socialists/communists that I have known, the previous failures don’t matter because this time: They are going to get it right.

Also most people who vote for communists actually believe that if all the money were to be taken away from the rich, that it would provide enough money for the rest of them to live comfortably for the rest of their lives without having to work.

    • Voters who will not accept a democratic decision, if they lose…
People who will not accept any majority if they don’t get their way…

  17. “Open post” to all Climate Alarmists concerned about Mr. Biden’s sincerity:

What part of “shut down every coal plant, halt all domestic drilling, get millions of cars off the road, have you ride the train, put 10’s if not 100’s of thousands of you out of work, and make you freeze in the dark” don’t you understand?

    • I agree what he promised was ridiculous. The difference is that was then.

The past is like a dream which we have not switched out of.

We are in a new paradigm.

There are going to have millions of people out of work in every country and we got the virus problem.

      Those are tough problems.

No time or money for fake problems.

  18. How can we trust anybody from Duke as the final word on the subject?

The credibility of all university environmental studies have taken a huge hit. The $112.5 million Duke University fine establishes a powerful disincentive for all flawed universities studies, with government funding.

With billions and billions of dollars of government money spent over the last 8 years, it is worth asking which US university’s objectivity can be trusted without a rigorous internal and external review, especially with climate change studies during the environmentally political years of 2008-2016.

More transparency and full disclosure of all material facts is the only way government studies can avoid any funding bias and regain the credibility lost by the Duke example.

  19. “Middle-class Joe” has already thrown away tens of thousands of votes in Pennsylvania with his promise to ban fracking and otherwise appease the Green wing of the Media Party. Having him go even further to appease these religious environmentalists sounds like a great way for him to throw more swing states away for the general election.
