Neither of those have anything to do with changing atmospheric CO2, so yes it was brilliant and well said. But Gore invested in wind and solar! BlackRock! Oh, the humanity! It’s okay. The world’s not ending. Let them fail. Let them lose every single dollar. It’s the responsible, moral, ethical, and humane thing to do.

“To embrace the possibilities of tomorrow we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the Apocalypse. They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune tellers, and they want to see us do badly but we won’t let that happen. They predicted an overpopulation crisis in the 1960s, mass starvation in the 70s, and an end of oil in the 1990s. These alarmists always demand the same thing: absolute power to dominate, transform and control every aspect of our lives.”
— US President Donald Trump, World Economic Forum, Davos, 21 January 2020

I believe this quote will define the Trump Presidency, in much the same way that Franklin Roosevelt trumpeted “A day of infamy” and Winston Churchill extolled “Our finest hour”.

Because we are at war, as surely as Britain was in 1939 and the USA was in 1941. And this war is for our democracies and our freedoms. It is abundantly clear that the global warming/climate change scam was never about the climate – it was always a smokescreen, a false front for a Marxist takeover of our democracies – the end of freedom.

There were times when I would have thought a comment like, ‘We are at war’, to be a tad over the top but now, after the years this scam has been running and the lies that have been told, I have to agree with you, Allan.
I have noted on many blogs/newspaper comments that warmists tend to the Alinsky approach to argument and hardly ever debate the technology or the science, tending more to play the man with personal denigration.

Allan: Well put Allan. We live in a world of alternate realities. Your language is precise and accurate… and should resonate.

I am talking to a lot of people. It appears that people who ‘get it’ about tools of the Left are toning it down so as to not lose friends. My message to them is to learn new ways to open their minds up to reality. We are at war, and those friends are mostly unwittingly endorsing the coming destruction. They need to see it that way.

I challenge people, which makes their heads hurt. Some are offended by that!

Instead of arguing about the science of global warming, we should just listen to what these enviro radicals are actually SAYING and DOING.

Maybe they know their global warming science is bogus, but it suits their purpose to use global warming hysteria as a smokescreen to mask their true intentions.

The radical warmists have done everything in their power to starve the world of fossil fuel energy that is required for continued global prosperity.

They have squandered a trillion dollars of scarce global resources on catastrophic humanmade global warming (CAGW) nonsense.

Investing these squandered resources in clean drinking water and sanitation alone would have saved the ~50 million kids who died from drinking contaminated water in the past 25+ years of CAGW hysteria.

Intelligent use of these scarce global resources could have easily saved as many people as were killed in the atrocities of Hitler, Stalin, or Mao.

50 million people died in Hitler’s WW2. Josef Stalin killed another 50 million of his own people in internal purges. Leftist hero Mao gets the prize, killing as many as 80 million Chinese during his Great Leap Backward.

The radical environmental movement has done equally well, rivaling Mao for fatalities caused by the banning of DDT and the misallocation of scarce global resources on the fraud of catastrophic humanmade global warming.

Since many of these enviro radicals are latter-day Malthusians, Club of Rome types, etc., it is reasonable to assume that THIS WAS THEIR INTENTION.

Is this too radical a proposal? Well, NO it is not: In addition to what the radical enviros DO, let’s EXAMINE what they SAY (h/t to Wayne):

“In the United States, we are building an economy that works for everyone, restoring the bonds of love and loyalty that unite citizens and powers nations. Today, I hold up the American model as an example to the world of a working system of free enterprise that will produce the most benefits for the most people in the 21st century and beyond.”

end excerpt

Leaders of the world should pay attention. If you want to prosper like the Americans, then do what the Americans are doing to prosper. The main thing Americans are doing to prosper is developing our natural gas resources and using them to power our economy.

If you want to be a winner, do what winners do.

Of course, if you are living in the false reality of CO2 catastrophy in the near future, then you won’t be a winner because this false reality will lead you astray and cause you to make poor decisions that will be counterproductive. Wake up and smell the coffee!

It’s not the app, like VLC player (which I have), that is the problem. In fact, sometimes XP will play a Youtube video but it’s hit and miss. I have a browser add-on that will let me download any video that is playing on my webpage, but the webpage has to make the connection to the source file of the video before the add-on can find it, and for some reason I have a hard time getting to that source file on YouTube. I’ve had occasions where the webpage will connect to the video source but will then refuse to play it, but if it connects, even for a second, then the add-on can find it and download it, and that’s what happens sometimes.

I have another computer running Windows 8, but it is not hooked up to the internet at the present time. It works just fine with Youtube.

What Trump said about energy and technology development:

https://thebfd.co.nz/2020/01/transcript-trumps-davos-speech-part-three/

” With U.S. companies and researchers leading the way, we are on the threshold of virtually unlimited reserves of energy, including from traditional fuels, LNG, clean coal, next-generation nuclear power, and gas hydrate technologies.”

https://thebfd.co.nz/2020/01/transcript-trumps-davos-speech-part-four/

“The great scientific breakthroughs of the 20th century — from penicillin to high-yield wheat, to modern transportation, and breakthrough vaccines — have lifted living standards and saved billions of lives around the world. And we’re continuing to work on things that you’ll be hearing about in the near future that, even today, sitting here right now, you wouldn’t believe it’s possible that we have found the answers.

You’ll be hearing about it. But we have found answers to things that people said would not be possible — certainly not in a very short period of time. But the wonders of the last century will pale in comparison to what today’s young innovators will achieve because they are doing things that nobody thought even feasible to begin.”

I wonder what President Trump is talking about exactly. I guess we’ll know sometime in the near future. It sounds exciting! 🙂

Everyone on Earth ought to read Trump’s speech and follow his advice.

Eight years of Trump is not enough. Although by the end of his second term he may get most of our serious problems solved. He is well on the way to doing that right now. If he gets a Republican-controlled Congress I can almost guarantee he will tackle the national debt which is one of our more serious problems and only a Trump and a Republican Congress could tackle it successfully.

The man is unbelievable! A Godsend!

“ That former President Bill Clinton is less truthful than President Trump”.
Debate.
As a preparatory exercise before you appear to oppose the motion, read Christopher Hitchens’ “ No One Left to Lie To- The Triangulations of William Jefferson Clinton”.
On the subject of lying, the Counsel prosecuting Clinton in the House Impeachment summed it up this way-
He lied to his colleagues.
He lied to his Cabinet.
He lied to his confidantes.
He lied to the media.
He lied to the Grand Jury and to the Independent Prosecutor.
He lied to the American Public.
“ There’s no one left to lie to!”

Simon, maybe you’re from a different country and are not familiar with America, or maybe you’re following mis-information from sources.

It seem that you do not know what is going on. How much inf should Trump provide so that the Dem’s can find a crime to charge him with?

Sounds like you’re saying, if Trump is innocent, he should turn over privileged information of everything from tax returns, to all conversations with all lawyers, to cabinet officials so the dem’s could spin whatever they want and continue their investigation.

He’s already done that for Mueller… and what did that do? He was 100% innocent of the alleged behavior. So, now he turns over the transcript of the conversation that was supposedly bribery… which is a high crime. The act of turning over these conversations compromises the president’s power, but he did it to show how stupid the allegations were.

However your party did not charge him with bribery or any Constitutionally listed crimes for which Impeachment can be a remedy.

If he is innocent, he can make this all go away. Let Bolton and Mulvaney testify. He wont because they know too much and don’t want to purger themselves.

And…. the Russia investigation did not clear him of obstruction of justice… “while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him”.

Speaking of which I am guessing you are happy with Trump providing no documents and there being no witnesses at the impeachment (fake) trial?

The Dems had their chance to call witnesses, in the House. And they passed. A Bolton aid was subpoenaed and asked the Courts to rule on whether or not he should testify, rather than make the case to the courts (as is the constitutionally correct way to handle it) the House withdrew the subpoena.

They could have subpoenaed Bolton, but again that would have required them making their case to the courts, so they again passed. They passed because they claimed it was too urgent to wait for the courts, but then they sat on the impeachment articles for over a month, so much for urgency!

The only one who should get to call witnesses in the Senate is the Trump team, seeing as the House completely denied them that opportunity (an Opportunity Bill Clinton’s defender were given 20 years ago). But you don’t want to hear from the witnesses Trump would call. You are happy with Trump not being allowed to call witnesses, not being allowed access to the documents of the House’s closed door secret witness interviews in the basement of the capitol, not being allowed to cross examine the witnesses in the House interviews, not being allowed to confront his accuser (the so-called whistleblower), and basically not allowed any of the due process that is every American’s constitutional right.

The Dem’s job now is to present the “overwhelming” evidence they say they have to the Senate to try and convince the Senate to remove. Their job is not to keep fishing for “evidence”. It can’t be all that overwhelming if you need *more* witnesses in order to make a case.

The Politicalfact website is owned by the Poynter Institute. According to Wikipedia, “In 2019, Poynter used various “fake news” databases (including those curated by the Annenberg Public Policy Center, Merrimack College, PolitiFact, and Snopes) to compile a list of over 515 news websites that it labelled “unreliable.” Poynter called on advertisers to “blacklist” the sites on the list. The list included conservative news websites such as the Washington Examiner, The Washington Free Beacon, and The Daily Signal. After backlash, Poynter retracted the list, citing “weaknesses in the methodology.” Poynter issued a statement saying “We regret that we failed to ensure that the data was rigorous before publication, and apologize for the confusion and agitation caused by its publication.”
I think that probably sums up the reliability of the Poynter Institute and its fact-checking organisation.

Indeed, it is impressive how consistent and expansively politifact lies in generating its ratings. Looked at just a few, and they vapidly ignore evidence that does not fit their agenda, take things out of context, or simply make things up. Every one of their claims does not stand up to scrutiny.

Bill Bennett on the difference between George H. W. Bush and Donald J. Trump: “…the world is an ever-changing place; sometimes you need Mother Theresa and sometimes you need Dirty Harry.”

The most ethical, moral, and honest President in my lifetime (going back to Truman), was Jimmy Carter. His Presidency was a disaster, worse than any of the others.

What matters in the real world are real results, and President Trump has delivered like no other. Trump 2020.

“His name has become a litmus test of sanity”

I noticed that Trump seemed very comfortable at Davos. I think the reason is because of the success he has had. In previous trips to Davos, he could only tell the Elites what he was going to do. With this trip, he can show the Elites what he has done and it is impressive by any standards. I think the Elites are warming up to Trump a little bit. If they were smart, they would emulate him.

The Left and the Leftwing Media of the Western Democracies have painted an ugly, distorted picture of Trump constantly for years, but even that onslaught of lies is not slowing him down.

Simon says Trump lies but the real liars are the Left and the Leftwing Media who distort every word Trump says, and then call him a liar. The list of Trump lies we get from leftists is really a list of the distortions of what Trump said by the Leftwing Media.

President Trump gets to address the World Economic Forum at Davos, as he is the democratically elected leader of the USA.

But on what basis does a 16 year old get to speak on the same platform ?

The only reason is that she is simply being used a mask by nefarious & radical European socialists to hide behind, so they peddle their extremist policies and obtain more power and control for themselves.

” do like to know who is next in line after you and worthy of your stamina?”

Well, we don’t know but if Trump gets four more years, he will leave the United States on a firm foundation.

I don’t know if we have another dynamo like Trump waiting in the wings but we have some younger, common sense conservatives who can step in and continue on up the road Trump built. I like Nikki Haley, she has her head on straight with regard to national security, which I consider the most important trait for a president. Just off the top of my head I could think of a dozen conservatives that could probably fill the bill. Although, before I could say that definitively, I would have to hear what they had to say on every topic.

But realistic national defense and security policies are top requirements. This disqualifies any Democrat, even Tulsi. Sorry Tulsi. I like you otherwise, but you are weak on national defense. Yes, I know you served and I appreciate that, but I think you and the Left and a lot of Republicans are taking the wrong lesson from the Iraq war.

The lesson you should take is military intervention can be successful and can lead to the invaded country eventually benefiting from the intervention, but the key is who is running the show. Under Bush, Iraq was doing just fine at the end of his term, then Obama took over, and things went to Hell in a Handbasket as Obama did all the wrong things like not suppessing the Islamic Terror Army and inviting Iran to come in and take over Iraq.

Interventions work, but not under Democrat administrations. The U.S. won the Vietnam war. The Democrats took power and threw all the blood, sweat, and tears expended right down the toilet and caused the death and displacement of millions of innocent people in Southeast Asia. They did the same thing in Iraq. And Tulsi and Tucker want to blame it on military intervention per se rather than on how the aftermath was handled.

Intervention has worked out well in the past: Germany, Italy, South Korea; and South Vietnam should be on that list, but for Democrat appeasement and fear or just plain ignorance. Iraq may eventually get on that list if Trump can get things straightened out. No help from the Democrats on that, either.

Democrats are incapable of defending the United States because they have a distorted view of reality which causes them to make very bad decisions. Fear dominates their thinking in such circumstances and bad guys can smell fear.

Look at how our current Democrats undermine Trump’s efforts to instill fear in the Mad Mullahs of Iran. If the Mad Mullahs think Trump will hurt them badly, then they will back off, but the Democrats insert uncertainty about that in the minds of our enemies with their attacks on how Trump has handled the whole affair. They are giving aid and comfort to our enemies.

And the Democrats do this consistently. They are really our worst enemies. If we showed a united, tough front to our enemies, they would back off. But we don’t show a united front which only encourages the dictators to push their envelop to see how far they can go. It was always so, and it will always be so. Strength and Force is what murderous dictators understand and will respect, but you have to convince them. A quivering Democrat is not very convincing.

I imagine the speech was teleprompted but either way it was phenomenal. Hardly mentioned by the BBC of course. (See Sedgwick in his book BBC Brainwashing). In contrast Thunberg came across as hysterical and silly in that serious if outdated forum. Even after our Clown Prince’s ignorant effort, I guess CEOs will go away thinking about Trump’s speech. Trump did get a clap for his trillion trees which was depressing. Beautifying? Fine. Carbon dioxide capture? Forget it.

Reply to  Coeur de Lion
January 23, 2020 3:10 am

The trillion trees thing was unnecessary but he then said he supports better management of forests and that’s a good thing. It may help reduce fires in CA and Australia. It will help keep America “the wood basket of the world” which will allow production of high volumes of high quality wood at a good price. It will also provide jobs for rural workers. In recent years, the climate hysterics have now turned against any forest management because they don’t want any trees cut. Here in Massachusetts, they’ve filed a bill that would stop management of state forest land- almost a million acres in a very small state. Of course they all live in nice wood homes with nice wood furniture and tons of paper products- and as climate hysterics they love driving their cars, heating their homes with oil (like most people in New England), they love flying in jets and few are vegetarians- I know because I ask them and it’s not that I think they should stop enjoying their cars and home furnaces or that they should stop flying in jets or eating meat- I just ask them how they reconcile their hatred of fossil fuels while actually enjoying those fuels- and enjoying all that wood in their homes while wanting to stop all tree cutting.

Trump hit a home run. A clear contrast to the socialist agenda so beloved by international groups. Price at the pump in my area down to $2.12 a gallon down from an average of about $2.27 which prevailed for months. Keep in mind that this decline happened while tensions with Iran were super high. Venezuela is cut off to the US market. Libya is in turmoil. Tight oil and gas has been an economic miracle for the USA.

When you have the courage to make the attempt and free markets that allow it to happen good things flow. Trump is right about blue collar wages in America. A tight labor market minus mass illegal immigration is pushing them up. Duh

Ouch indeed, that’s worse than Commiefornia’s average of $3.52 and Hawaii’s $3.66 per gallon prices (the worse in the nation), and at least Hawaii has the excuse of being an island out in the middle of nowhere needing to ship in all it’s supplies with no oil reserves or production of it’s own (though it does have a whole two, count them two, crude oil refineries).

In the above comments, a number of people are down on Trump because of his personal life and his frequent lies. They need to recognise that all polititions lie like rugs. The real measure of a leader is what is accomplished. For that we need to wait in Trump’s case, but so far it looks good.

Conflating concrete achievements with the morality (by your own standards) of a person’s life is silly. Judging on the basis of whether you personally like a person is silly. Everyone has done things they regret or hope to hide from even their nearest and dearest. Greens who use all the gifts given by use of fosil fuels are just as bad as the Trump they detest

People in your team will dismiss this because it is CNN, rather than address the issues they raise. It is easier to do that as a Trumpkin than defend the indefensible. So many times I have heard people dismiss the impeachment inquiry or change the subject when presented with evidence by saying stuff like “but he is doing a great job. Unemployment is down and the economy is flying.” While these things may be true they are separate issues. Presidents need to honour the office. You (and the Dems) don’t have evidence Simon. Hearsay is not evidence. Supposition is not evidence. There was only one fact witness in the whole Dem impeachment Circus, Gordon Sondland, and the fact he witnessed was that he flat out asked Trump what he wanted and Trump responded “I want nothing, I want no Quid Pro Quo”. All the rest was hearsay and Supposition by people, most of whom never even met Trump, all of whom were not on the phone call or otherwise involved in the discussions between the White House and Ukraine.

As Jim Jorden keeps pointing out there are four central and unwavering facts that have not changed and will not change:
1.We have the call transcript, there’s no discussion of linking aid to any investigation.
2.The two principals on the call, President Trump and President Zelenskyy, have both stated there was no linkage of any aid to Ukraine dependent on any investigation.
3.The Ukraine government had no idea that aid was being held-back pending confirmation of the stable intent -no corruption- within the new Ukraine administration.
4.President Zelenskyy didn’t announce, didn’t start, and didn’t acknowledge he was going to start any investigation to get the aid released; and it was released without contingencies.

Trump’s haters portray Trump as an immoral person, but I don’t see any immorality in his life. If it’s a crime to be interested in women, then a lot of us are in trouble.

There’s no evidence Trump ever forced himself on any female. There is no evidence Trump is a serially immoral person as the Left claims. There is no evidence of any Trump wrongdoing in his personal or public life.

I would love to go to my grave with human colonies on the moon and mars, with the U.S. China, Russia and India jointly mining Helium 3 on the moon; powering fusion reactors in Africa. With windmills being scrapped, and an optimistic press discussing terraforming venus as a real possibility. Trump’s countering green fascists at Davos with the renaissance optimism of Filippo Brunnelleschi principle of negative curvature on the Dome at Santa Maria del Flore is a good start. Of course Gerta is pitching in with her engineering degree. As for the billionairs at Davos, the most we can hope for is that they become license plate manufacturers.

Trump could have just said that wind and solar generation aren’t capable of totally replacing fossil fuels without a miraculous leap forward in storage technology or long distance transmission. Therefore coal and gas power stations need to remain part of the generation mix.

Trump mentions God a few times in his speech so the question is: If carbon dioxide is ok up to 4000 ppm then why didn’t God put 20 times as much coal & gas reserves so that civilization could last longer? If carbon dioxide in atmosphere above 400 ppm leads to run away global warming then why did God put as much reserves of coal and gas as there is already?
