Claim: Delaying Climate Action Could Threaten Democracy

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

According to University of Copenhagen professor Ole Wæver, if we don’t act soon the UN Security Council might have to take over and dictate climate policy to member states, just as the EU took control of Greece.

Could climate change become a security issue — and threaten democracy?

RN By Farz Edraki and Ann Arnold for Late Night Live

Action to address climate change has been left so late that any political response will likely become an international security issue — and could threaten democracy

That’s the view of Ole Wæver, a prominent international relations professor at the University of Copenhagen, who also says climate inaction could lead to armed conflict.

When decision-makers — after delaying for so long — suddenly try to find a shortcut to realistic action, climate change is likely to “be securitised”.

Professor Wæver, who first coined the term “securitisation”, says more abrupt change could potentially threaten democracy.

The United Nations Security Council could, in principle, tomorrow decide that climate change is a threat to international peace and security,” he says.

“And then it’s within their competencies to decide ‘and you are doing this, you are doing this, you are doing this, this is how we deal with it’.”

“If there was something that was decided internationally by some more centralised procedure and every country was told ‘this is your emission target, it’s not negotiable, we can actually take military measures if you don’t fulfil it, then you would basically have to get that down the throat of your population, whether they like it or not,” he says.

“A bit like what we saw in southern Europe with countries like Greece and the debt crisis and so on.

“There were decisions that were made for them and then they just had to have a more or less technocratic government and get it through.”

We do not let the UN have it’s own independently funded military for the exact reason that it thus cannot rule the world with it’s own might. The author is in the mind that the UN is a world government, which is thankfully is not.

Put the UN in charge or world government, drop Chinese/Russian troops on US soil and tell them to enforce UN rule at the point of a gun. Do you think those soldiers would use force against the citizens when ordered to do so? They wouldn’t be so stupid as to ask local soldiers to enforce locally. They’ll haul in soldiers from other countries, most likely a country that has traditionally stood against they country they are enforcing in.

I am sure Cuba and China would be more than happy to invade the US. I am also more than sure they would regret it. It could start a lovely Civil War, though, with the stupid Alarmists on their side and I doubt that would be good for the climate, not to mention a nuclear war.
These people are frightening and stupid which is a lousy combination.

This is a maniacal proposal. There are many agreements negotiated under UN auspices, but they are done by agreement of the member states. The one I am most familiar with, the International Maritime Organization, received proposals from member states, which are then discussed at the specialist committees, and most likely are sent out again to the member states with the comments and updated proposals. Only where there is general agreement are changes made to the International Conventions on Safety of Life at Sea, or on Marine Pollution (SOLAS and MARPOL).

I do not think that there is anything in the UN Charter that could support such a policy and certainly, even should the General Assembly pass one, it would be vetoed by at least four if not five members of the security Council.

Plus, the Chinese are building all over the world, hold a huge amount of the production of goods as their economy booms. Climate change is a great excuse to annihilate the enemy. “Ma’am, you look a bit distraught; may I offer you one of these?”
Oh yes, that sounds convincing””

Twice during my career as a mailman, companies sent free samples to every address in our town.
1) Was a new variation of a tampon.
2) Was a small box of sanitary pads.

I delivered the tampon samples to apartments and one apartment building filled with retirees, I had old ladies chasing me down corridors, persistently trying to give the tampons back to me. “Give them to your girlfriend” they said.
Oh yes, the Post Office loves employees taking home free samples…

And mailmen love carrying undelivered trash back to the post office… It looks so absurd and unwork like to supervisors and the postmaster. They’ll just have me put it back in the case for delivery the next day, again.
Some of the old men physically threw the samples back at me. I won’t mention what they said.

At least my route for delivering the sanitary pad samples were street deliveries. I was long gone by the time the people opened their “free” samples. Though a few did drive by and try to get me to come to their car and take back the samples… Nothing doing! Bulk rate mail is paid only for delivery, not returns.

As for “inhumane world views”, if you were out to rule the world literally, wouldn’t you teach stupid children whose stupid parents spend thousands to have them indoctrinated that humans are worthless and a blight? If the students learn to hate themselves, then others, the work of ruling the world is far simplified. People just watch the destruction. It’s actually a very, very good plan. Ask why the parents pay to destroy their kids’ futures. That’s the real question here.

Exactly the same arguments were being made last night on BBC Newsnight by Jane Fonda who is much more barking mad than even the warnings I’d heard. In the course of a hissy fit of hysterical rambling she claimed 100 million people would die very soon, either in ten, eleven, forty years (it kept changing), the oil companies knew back in the 70s they were going to kill the planet, etc etc.

Even the BBC presenter eventually baulked at all the nonsense and timidly asked where in the IPCC report all these deaths were predicted. It merely set off another hissy fit. I think we should encourage La Fonda – this kind of stupidity is actually making the sceptic case.

Prof Ole, judging by his department, should have a greater knowledge of history ?

From my memory of history there was a thing called the League of Nations that preceded the UN ? Just like the UN it was mostly a talking shop, and a place where leaders of nations not in the first rank were able to grandstand thus invoking the sympathy of nice middle class folk. Trouble was, when the League attempted to flex its muscles in the way that this Ole guy suggests the UN should, a few fairly important members walked away. From there on in it was pretty much game over for the League.

We were told in 45 that the League of Nations was never really any good simply because the USA did not become a part of it. So its remarkable also that Ole does not seem to have noticed that when it comes to CC and the UN, the USA is now not part of that either. Maybe the Board of Regents at his school could arrange some sort of re test for the Prof, just to ensure that he is informed enough to actually be able to teach International Relations 🙂

Any “security” action by the UN would need to be approved by the UN Security Council, but the five “big” allies after WW II have veto powers (USA, England, France, Russia & China). Not one of them would allow the UN to do something crazy like this, because they all know that it would immediately be turned on them.

This guy is supposed to be an expert in international relations, and he doesn’t know this?

You all seem very relaxed about this, methinks. While military action against USA is probably a far-fetched idea, the more subtle and more dangerous threat implied by this kind of thinking is very real, and not that far away. Consider a Trumpless America, one or maybe four years from now. Consider a US President Bernie, or Elizabeth, or Kamala (or half a dozen others)… this is not at all fanciful. USA would be on board and would act in concert with UN to surpress, militarily if necessary (but probably not necessary), any smaller states that step out of line. China and Russia would acquiesce, secure in their continuing pollution and military strength, knowing they’d not be the targets, and seeing advantage in it all for themselves. Votes in the Security Council? Maybe not even necessary. There are plenty of ways to take action without that – after all, it’s an emergency.

The alarmists control the governments of nearly all the free world, nearly all the media, nearly all the civil institutions, all the NGOs, and virtually all the educational establishments. The UK government- right of centre- for instance, recently passed the ‘Climate Emergency’ declaration without a vote, nor any objection at all. Whereas the people of the free world MIGHT eventually turn against their rulers, they might not wake up quickly enough under these circumstances to forestall the final coup. It’s a little way off, but not the remote prospect commenters here seem to believe.

There is a madness afoot, and it is everywhere. Rational debate may take a very long time to return, and may never do so if temperatures continue to rise even slightly. Sorry to be a pessimist – but the other side is not reading this blog, nor any sceptical or even moderate-warmist organ. Not sure we can stop them.

We should shut down the UN. When needed we should go back to the 19th centuary practice of having a Congress between the interested parties. Not perfect but far better than the present set up.

Claim: Delaying Climate Action Could Threaten Democracy

The hypocrisy of this statement could not be purer or sweeter. That brown-shirted foot-soldiers of the ecofascist global coup for the one world totalitarian government under the pretext of a bogus climate crisis, talk about a threat to democracy. It’s like foxes going all tearful over a threat to hens. “Just leave us in charge of the chicken coop.” What could possibly go wrong?

December 4, 2019 3:57 am

this is your emission target, it’s not negotiable, we can actually take military measures if you don’t fulfil it

Bring it on.
Ecofascism was only ever going to end one way, once again it will lead to a catastrophic war. That’s what’s coming folks.

There is only one way to deal with fascism and it’s not pretty, but necessary.

Like all European fascist movements it will end in a graveyard in Russia. Fascist fare poorly there.

The EU only ever *pretended* to be democratic. There are EU parliament members…but with no actual means of affecting policy on most issues.

The EU’s creeping Authoritarianism is more worrisome than Russia’s largely ineffective reach (outside of its energy-supply extortion racket – which has no trans-Atlantic “reach”).

The EU is not a dependable ally. Only England has abided by its treaty obligations…but lately, even they have been “going off the deep end” of leftism.

How apropos that NATO is headquartered in Belgium; these Green Blobsters are racist colonialists, just like the unlamented King Leopold of Belgium. The UN, the World Bank and the European Union seem intent on restoring the colonial system so popular in the 18th and 19th Centuries. They get to decide who is healthy, wealthy and wise; you’re Chinese, you get all the coal you want. You’re Indian, you get coal and hydro, too. You’re African; you get NOTHING! Maybe we’ll throw in a little solar so you can see how your European masters want to live, but YOU need to be kept in poverty for the sake of our poor befuddled children!

I wish I could get St. Greta and her acolytes to switch places with the hungry masses in Africa who are yearning to breath free; the Greenies could revel in the Utopian dream of the zero-carbon religion and the newly enriched Africans could raise their families in the liberty and prosperity that only fossil fuels have given Man. I personally don’t do social media but I would love to see young, black conservatives on Twitter and YouTube apprised of the wide racist streak in the watermelons of the climate hoax. Candace Owens (@RealCandaceO), Terrence K. Williams (@w_terrence) and David Harris, Jr. are just a few of those who might be interested in throwing the reality of modern day racism and colonialism into the face of the Left!

Man Made Global Warming is a pox on all our houses and if we don’t turn them over for government control then they will huff and puff and blow those houses down.

You have little to fear from climate change but beware that Man Made government.

Fixed.

And the UN Security Council, can make that “fix” proper real and permanent… 🙂
By also moving the “Could” to “Does” and expand it beyond “Democracy” to the
“Humanity at Large” too.
(if it comes to it)

“If there was something that was decided internationally by some more centralised procedure and every country was told ‘this is your emission target, it’s not negotiable, we can actually take military measures if you don’t fulfil it‘, then you would basically have to get that down the throat of your population, whether they like it or not,” he says.”

You, and what army, RN By Farz Edraki and Ann Arnold?

You think the Gilets Jaunes or the farmers in the Netherlands are fringe groups, Farz and Ann?
Send any militarized force to enforce your silly religion and false prophecies and you officially escalate minor protests into armed conflicts.

Such despotic actions are more likely to be fought by the world’s major militaries than to support UN tyranny.
Neither China nor Russia want any part of a UN tyrannical green theocracy and I doubt most of the Western Civilizations are just as opposed.

Fractious threats by unknown militaries against the world’s residents as alleged by Farz Edraki and Ann Arnold is specious bloviating.

At this very moment climate action is already damaging democracy because a small group is forcing their destructive ideas on the silent majority.

Good luck trying to subjugate the US militarily. Even most of the idiots that reflexively vote the Democrat ticket would stand up to defend this country against such an attempt.

Greece did not have much of a choice. It was broke and its military is no match for the bigger countries. So it could not force the world to put more money into it other than by behaving. In a way at least. I am curious how those same professors would shove that down the US if Trump gets reelected and tell them to go pick some mushrooms instead. Maybe they find some magic ones. But it’s very revealing as for their real intentions.

Which democracy? Were do people have something to say?
According to a Princeton study, the top 1% (The Super Class by David Rothkopf) have more to say then the 99%.

This is hilarious. I am sure every nation is quaking in their boots at the thought of an invasion by the EU military. Well, the children might be since their “Army” is good at raping them and the EU appears to be good at setting up pedophile rings but other nation’s military? Not so much.

As long as we don’t have a Democrat in the White House and, even with one, we still have our Second Amendment, I say, Molon Labe!

Climate conference: Greta Thunberg and Luisa Neubauer focus on emotional narratives

The United Nations Climate Change Conference is currently the place to raise its voice in the fight for the global climate. The champions of the game Greta Thunberg and Luisa Neubauer let the affected combatants tell their stories.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and her German combatant Luisa Neubauer are two prominent faces in the fight to save the global climate. For those who are less in the spotlight, the two set a stage at the UN climate summit in Madrid.

How climate change already affects people today

“The climate crisis will not only hit us in the future, it already affects countless people who are already suffering and dying”, Neubauer introduced contributions from various parts of the world.

Nakabuye Hilda Flavia feels abandoned

Nakabuye Hilda Flavia from Uganda criticized, despite the ever clearer effects of global warming in the rich industrialized countries “little or no action” to recognize. With that they abandoned Africa and other poor regions of the world.

Their continent causes almost no greenhouse gas emissions, “but we suffer the most,” said the African activist.

Kisha Erah Muaña demands to use every second

Kisha Erah Muaña, of the Philippines State, emphasized that she lives in one of the “most vulnerable regions of the world”. In view of the threat posed by rising sea levels to huge coastal areas, climate policy requires “every minute to act”.

Rose Whipple is fighting an oil pipeline in the US

Native American Rose Whipple told of her fight against an oil pipeline on the Mississippi and called for a fundamental rethinking: “It is time for us to reconnect with Mother Earth.” Because, as one activist from Chile summarizes: “Our lives are not negotiable!”

Arkak Makichyan went to jail for the climate: “I’m not afraid”

Russian activist Arshak Makichyan reported that he had been imprisoned for several days for his climate protests in his homeland.

But that does not stop him from calling attention to global warming. “I’m not afraid of being arrested, I’m afraid I’m not doing enough.” (HAU / dpa / AFP)

Greta Thunberg with a sobering conclusion in Madrid

The 16-year-old hopes that the 25th World Climate Change Conference will produce something concrete. Because so far still nothing has changed, so the Swede.
