“World War Zero” – John Kerry’s Great Climate Change Mobilization

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

John Kerry has formed a group which demands a military style mobilization of global resources to combat climate change. But in a novel twist, Kerry has explicitly dismissed the idea of his new coalition developing a plan of action.

John Kerry Launches Star-Studded Climate Coalition

By Lisa Friedman
Nov. 30, 2019, 12:29 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON — John Kerry, the former senator and secretary of state, has formed a new bipartisan coalition of world leaders, military brass and Hollywood celebrities to push for public action to combat climate change.

The name, World War Zero, is supposed to evoke both the national security threat posed by the earth’s warming and the type of wartime mobilization that Mr. Kerry argued would be needed to stop the rise in carbon emissions before 2050. The star-studded group is supposed to win over those skeptical of the policies that would be needed to accomplish that.

Former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter are part of the effort. Moderate Republican lawmakers like Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former governor of California, and John Kasich, the former governor of Ohio, are on the list. Stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Sting and Ashton Kutcher round out the roster of more than 60 founding members. Their goal is to hold more than 10 million “climate conversations” in the coming year with Americans across the political spectrum.

Mr. Kerry said while individual members might personally promote specific climate policy proposals, like a tax on carbon dioxide pollution, or the Green New Deal, the coalition is not aimed at promoting any particular plan

We’re not going to be divided going down a rabbit hole for one plan or another,” he said.

Read more: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/30/climate/john-kerry-climate-change.html

They want massive mobilization but have no agreed plan, they outright refuse to attempt to develop a plan for deploying all these resources they want to mobilize. What could possibly go wrong?

“World War Zero” is the perfect name – if you know of the great graphic novel and the not so great movie based on it, it was all about Fighting the Zombie Apocalypse.

So, WW Zero refers to fighting a fantasy enemy that only exists in scary stories and bad dreams. Perfect.

There are few genuine saints. We have many wolves in sheep’s clothing. There is, for instance, the communal narcissist.

They’re people who talk about having a “mission” or are “committed to a cause,” and they make it clear that while your life and concerns are petty and shallow, theirs are possessed of deep meaning and intent. You may have run into them on the PTA or at a charity event, booster club, or fundraiser. You may have been surprised when one showed his or her true colors by becoming hugely territorial and much more concerned with personal aggrandizement and appreciation than the communal goal you thought you were all working toward. And then there’s some terrible politicized brouhaha: Bingo!

Lots of do gooders feel their own moral superiority and use it as an excuse to do horrible things.

Once upon a time mass popular delusions died out after a while. I presume that people living through previous delusions felt as frustrated at the stupidity or certain of their beliefs as the two sides of the global warming / climate change hysteria.
Money was usually involved in the past just like now.
The current mass panic shows no sign of rectifying itself .
How much longer will the current exercise in civilizational self harm and wealth re-distribution run? What will it take to wake people up or stop them deluding themselves before real damage is done ?

Another ice-age? Another world war? or some sort of global collapse of some element of daily/human life. Very worrying times. Very interesting times.

Mass delusions can go on for a long time – sometimes for centuries or millennium. But in this case the global warming mass delusion requires an actual specific physical event to happen in real time. And that’s why the global warming mass delusion is doomed to a short life as a mass delusion.

In this case the global temperature is supposed to go up. And not just go up but go up so much that millions of people are supposed to die and whole countries are supposed to disappear. And all of this within a specific short time frame.

Most people may be gullible and stupid. But when you walk out your front door and a freezing wind smacks you across the face, well no matter how gullible or stupid you are you know there ain’t no global warming. Just give it a few more winters for people to see that nothing has changed.

“But in this case the global warming mass delusion requires an actual specific physical event to happen in real time. ”

Already several such predictions have failed to come to pass. Each time they moved on to the next dire prediction or simply moved the goal posts.

The ice caps have not melted.
Droughts have not gone permanent.
Deserts have shrunk in places.
Sea levels rise continues to be measured in the millimeters.
Winters are still winters.
Summers are still summers.
The growing season has not gotten longer.
Crop yields have increased, not decreased.
Real pollution has decreased.
The polar bears prosper.
Famines have decreased.
Islands remain above sea level.
Some glaciers still retreat and some still advance.
Global warming didn’t really happen so it got renamed climate change. That was almost 20 years ago now.
Some have tried to rename climate change into other names such as climate disruption.
There has been a decrease in extreme weather events.

All true KT66, you’re preaching to the choir here in this discussion group! I’d feel good if you could tell me that you are actively spreading the truth (accprding to your list above) community-wide; if you were actually talking it up with your neighbors or anyone else you have access to. The alarmists are lost, nothing to be done there except correct what’s being presented in the public school classrooms by mostly innocent, but totally ignorant teachers, and that’ll take time. Meanwhile there are many climate ‘agnostics’ out there, who are not clued in, in desperate need of some understanding of the science involved (the fact that the IPCC’s prognosis is based entirely on failed computer modeling, for instance), just as they’re in short supply of knowing the failures of Socialism, by the way.

Kerry’s an idiot and in desperate need of refurbishing his own self-image, but still has enough residual clout among those paying little attention to this scam, to do some real damage.

Like him or hate him (for his style) Trump’s instincts are spot on on this issue but he’s not going to be able to do it alone if we just remain passive members of the ‘Commentariat’!

I have to agree with you Bob, I’ve been thinking that we need to do something too. Why is it that famous people think that what they have to say carries more weight, or that most people really care what they think.

I don’t know what it’s like trying to get your opinion ‘out there’ in your neck of the woods but here in Australia it’s next to impossible. Almost all of the MSM are left wing here, but even the very small number of right thinkers have ‘gatekeepers’, we have been trying to be heard for months.

Most artists seem to be left to extreme left thinking, though I most definitely am not. After moving to the country six months ago and having very little contact with any of my friends decided to ‘out myself’ and raise the issues such as KT66 listed. Out of around 20 people only three even bothered to respond, and one of those is probably the only other right of centre person in the group.

I continue to try to get the truth out there, based on references from a lot of research, and this site gave me the confidence to do so. Most of my friends of many years have recently turned their backs on me rather than having a conversation. I find their ignorance exasperating, they parrot rubbish and simply say ‘scientists have proven’…fill in the blanks.

Have ‘real’ scientists been so completely shut down? Stupid question I guess, Peter Ridd lost his job due to his convictions, and the Great Barrier Reef truly is doing well.

How do we get the truth out there?

You cannot take anything they claim at face value.

The shrill tone we see today from the alarmists undoubtedly does reflect their concern that they are pushing their luck, that 45 years without any period of substantial cooling is unusually long in the historical record. Any undeniable cooling before they have their schemes in place will spoil their generation-long efforts and ruin their credibility for who knows how long.

But I’m not so optimistic that reality will be obvious to the general public any time soon. The past couple of decades have proved that if the alarmists can torture the data to say it is 0.001 degree warmer, that’s the hottest year evah. Actual temps can fall outside the low range of model projections year after year and that’s called pretty good agreement. Temperatures rose in the early 20th century when CO2 was not greatly impacted by human activity and fell for decades as fossil fuel use accelerated, yet this is not recognized as disproving the AGW hypothesis.

It is going to take a substantial cooling coupled with continued CO2 emissions to beat the propagandists. And that is entirely unpredictable. It could happen, but we might also be going through a period destined to be 500 years of natural warming with more than half of that still ahead of us.

In a sane world, the prospect of another couple of centuries of benevolent weather would be seen as great good fortune. If it were imagined that our fossil fuel use was paying a dividend in slightly warmer weather and substantially higher agricultural output, that would be accounted as a very good thing. The “externality” of benefits accruing to those not using the fossil fuels but enjoying enhanced crop yields would be considered a gift from the developed world to the underdeveloped world.

In this world that we actually inhabit, we’re left hoping for a reversal of our good fortune, so that our “leaders” lose their excuse to strip us of our freedoms. The benefits of fossil fuel use are not credited to us but far from that, it is demanded that we compensate those who have not yet developed their economies. It’s a mad world that we inhabit.

To John Kerry and his “Zeroes”:

1. Earth’s climate is not sensitive to increasing atmospheric CO2. The alleged catastrophic global warming crisis is a figment of your overheated imaginations.

2. Green energy is not green and produces little useful (dispatchable) energy. It doesn’t even significantly reduce CO2 emissions, because of its fatal flaws – intermittency and diffusivity..

3. Atmospheric CO2 is not alarmingly high, it is too low for optimal plant growth and alarmingly low for the survival of carbon-based terrestrial life.

We have known the above facts since ~forever.

We published the following ~17 years ago:
http://www.friendsofscience.org/assets/documents/KyotoAPEGA2002REV1.pdf

1. “Climate science does not support the theory of catastrophic human-made global warming – the alleged warming crisis does not exist.”

2. “The ultimate agenda of pro-Kyoto advocates is to eliminate fossil fuels, but this would result in a catastrophic shortfall in global energy supply – the wasteful, inefficient energy solutions proposed by Kyoto advocates simply cannot replace fossil fuels.”

I published the following ~11 years ago:
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/01/30/co2-temperatures-and-ice-ages/#comment-70691

(PLANT) FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Background:

1. “As CO2 is a critical component of growth, plants in environments with inadequate CO2 levels – below 200 ppm – will cease to grow or produce.”
http://www.planetnatural.com/site/xdpy/kb/implementing-co2.html

2. “The longest ice core record comes from East Antarctica, where ice has been sampled to an age of 800 kyr BP (Before Present). During this time, the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration has varied by volume between 180 – 210 ppm during ice ages, increasing to 280 – 300 ppm during warmer interglacials…
… On longer timescales, various proxy measurements have been used to attempt to determine atmospheric carbon dioxide levels millions of years in the past. These include boron and carbon isotope ratios in certain types of marine sediments, and the number of stomata observed on fossil plant leaves. While these measurements give much less precise estimates of carbon dioxide concentration than ice cores, there is evidence for very high CO2 volume concentrations between 200 and 150 myr BP of over 3,000 ppm and between 600 and 400 myr BP of over 6,000 ppm.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide_in_the_Earth's_atmosphere

Questions and meanderings:

A. According to para.1 above:
During Ice ages, does almost all plant life die out as a result of some combination of lower temperatures and CO2 levels that fell below 200ppm (para. 2 above)? If not, why not?
Does this (possible) loss of plant life have anything to do with rebounding of atmospheric CO2 levels as the world exits the Ice Age (in combination with other factors such as ocean exsolution)? could this contribute to the observed asymmetry?

B. When all life on Earth comes to an end, will it be because CO2 permanently falls below 200ppm as it is permanently sequestered in carbonate rocks, hydrocarbons, coals, etc.?
Since life on Earth is likely to end due to a lack of CO2, should we be paying energy companies to burn fossil fuels to increase atmospheric CO2, instead of fining them due to the false belief that they cause global warming?

Could T.S. Eliot have been thinking about CO2 starvation when he wrote:

“This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.”

Regards, Allan

John Kerry is a liar.

John Kerry accused his fellow American troops of committing war crimes in testimony before Congress, yet he never witnessed any war crimes himself.

John Kerry, during an anti-Vietnam war demonstration in front of the White House was seen to throw military medals over the fence onto the White House grounds, and Kerry claimed they were his medals for Vietnam service. Later, we found out those were not Kerry’s medals, they were someone else’s medals, and Kerry’s medals were safely at home in his display case. This is a good demonstration of just how big a hypocrit Kerry is.

John Kerry did everything he could publicly to undermine the American effort in South Vietnam.

John Kerry conspired with the North Vietnamese to undermine the United States during the peace talks between the U.S., South Vietnam and North Vietnam in Paris. That’s what I would call Treason.

John Kerry was Secretary of State during the time that the Democrats and Hillary and Obama and the Russians and the Ukrainians conspired together to try to destroy Trump’s presidential bid. John Kerry may be up before the U.S. Senate testifying before Senator Graham about his involvement one of these days. There may be a lot of Obama officials testifying before it’s all over.

I wouldn’t trust John Kerry as far as I could throw him, and you shouldn’t either. You should be suspicious of anything he is involved in.

I wonder if he will enlist his old war buddy “Jengiss” Khan in WW0?

This is very similar to the stated aims of the global Climate Emergency group. They say the climate catastrophy facing the population is so critical that urgent action needs to be taken immediately through mobilisation of people and governments.

But in the CE case they have a plan: Governments must immediately abandon all laws and regulations, and adopt emergency provisions to control CO2 emissions. And CE in their handbooks and guides have provided a list of new laws to be followed.

Some of the municipal bodies who have declared “Climate Emergency” are starting to implement these new regulations, such as the City of Berkeley.

Its about seizing power by revolution, which is why the radical socialists and communists love it. All very dangerous.

Consider me mobilised with zero plans and if anyone’s got any I’ll consider them divisive and we don’t want any hurt feelings in this day and age.

Taking Climate Advice from any Hollywood actor is never a good idea.

Ready, fire, aim!

No wait, don’t aim. Just run around firing.

Why do you need to mobilise if you are not going to do anything?

If the solutions are not yet clear, at the very least you should be devising critical tests to distinguish between alternative actions (including DO NOTHING), so that action can be taken once clear justifcations emerge.

This sounds like wanting publicity for no good reason….

Isn’t World War Z a novel and TV show/movie about a zombie apocalypse? And now, Kerry wants to invoke the imagery of World War Zero? What level of stupidity and tone-deafness must you have to make this your symbolism? We all know who you think the enemy in your world war will be, don’t we? We know who you will see as the zombies.

John, I say we don’t need a new political movement to take over the world. We don’t want or need a new charismatic leader like you. I mean, this has already gone too far. We’ve already got the new Greenshirts. And you’ve already got your new Jews, er, I mean your D Nye rs. Greta is already the first new member of the Climate Youth, her parents already the new Leni Riefenstahls. No doubt that Oreskes and McKibbon will be fighting to become the new Goebbels, and the NYT, BBC, Graun, PBS and NPR the new propaganda ministry. You clearly want to create a new economic Wiemar Republic with this Green New Deal crapola. Maybe you should write a book and call it “My Struggle” and before Bloomberg writes it, lest he should become the new great leader before you do. Maybe you’ll need to fight him in the Beer Hall?

Seriously, these frackin’ climate alarmists are going insane, right before our eyes.

Instructions to the paid protest team: Okay, okay just look busy and don’t get near me or my boats with that glue. My wife is fair game though.

How do you respond to Dr. Tim Ball & Tony Heller, among others, that show evidence that your findings are not valid? If you can’t defend your findings I won’t be able to defend you.

How do you defend yourself against Dr. Tim Ball, Tony Heller, among other deniers, that we need not worry as it’s simply nature taking it’s course? They have many though provoking reasons why we should not take this issue seriously. I can’t defend you if you can’t show how wrong they are!!!

Well if the climate debate is a war then John Kerry and his cohorts are the axis powers.

John Kasich, the former governor of Ohio, was also my former Rep in the House of Representatives.
I gladly voted for him several times back then. Then Bill Clinton’s “Assault Weapon Ban” came to the floor for a vote.
I then learned that “You can count on Kasich, until it counts.”
After that, I voted for him only once but only as the lesser of two evils.
