It’s refreshing to see a BBC presenter challenging climate claims, because it doesn’t happen very often these days. But Extinction Rebellion’s outrageous claim that a few feet of sea level rise will lead to billions of deaths deserves ridicule, even from people who think climate change is a problem.
Please play this to anyone who runs for this scam. They won’t be convinced but they will have something to think about. The Climate Change crowd-based their claims on incredibly flimsy arguments. And still, they make such a ruckus. We had a mass movement in Germany and Austria that people were maniacal about 80 years ago and their claims were equally flimsy.
This could be the end of ANDREW NEIL working for the BBC.
Not necessarily so, even the BBC can see that ER’s claims and tactics are not courting public opinion, despite giving them an easy ride.
Andrew Neil is literally the only BBC person who is prepared to challenge Climate Change orthodoxy. Yet unlike most interviewers he allows his interviewees to speak and make their points (if they have any).
I felt sorry for poor Zion Lights. I expect her mates told her “You’re all right, it’s the BBC. They love us, you’ll have it all your own way”. Unlucky.

In doing research for a paper I did in college in the ’90’s I discovered that these ‘watermelons’ actually believe that the maximum sustainable human population is 200 million. The last time the population was that low was before Alexander the Great. They want to eliminate 97 out of every 100 people on the planet.

I might have asked her a few questions regarding her knowledge on the scale of the undertaking she is blithely dissembling on about.
Lets assume she is talking only about the UK.
1) How many gas appliances heaters, boilers, cookers, etc. will need to be replaced with electrical cognates?
2) How many workers will be required to accomplish the removal, replacement and disposal of the aforementioned appliances in 6 years? (is there enough landfill volume) *these items still have value
3) How many automobiles, trucks (lorries) and buses must be replaced?
4) How much rebuild/replace/upgrade will be required to the UK power grid to accommodate all of the electrical demand?
5) How many nuclear powered electrical generating stations will need to be brought on-line in the next 6 years to supply the needed energy to power all of the existing power demands as well as all of the replacement devices?
6) What sort of energy is proposed to manufacture all of these new nuclear power stations and appliances, or must they all be made in less than 6 years also?
7) Will it be necessary to force almost all manufacturing and building to a halt as most processes require carbon, such as steel and concrete?
8) Who the hell is going to pay for all of this?

I think you misjudge Andrew Neal. His interviewing style is not to confront the interviewee with extremes but to get them to compare their view with the mainstream which highlights how extreme they’re being. He did this very well last night. Andrew is also a contributor to the Guido Fawkes website and shows some of his personal views their.
I think he judged the interview just right for the mainstream viewer concerned about the
idiotic ER movement.
Note that she quotes James Hansen, the man that never got one prediction right and then quotes Micheal Mann.

Hang on, Hansen was cited in a comment on a different thread yesterday saying that doubling CO2 would give a TCR of 1.2 C. Given the absence of significant positive feedbacks Monckton’s range of 1.0-1.4 seems pretty close.
BTW way the citation was Hansen 1984, cited in AR5. Really. Hansen said that and AR5 contains it. What they hope of course, is that there will be a huge positive water vapour feedback which literally all evidence to date shows is not happening and will not, and proved mathematically by Monckton to be non-physical on a climate-stable planet.

Great point! Alarmist language gets Ms. Lights on the BBC with a high profile interview. Alarist language has been driving this movement entirely since 1989! If such language “works” they would not be “discussing it” because the interviewer would not be questioning it in the first place.
If some language is “alarmist” rather than factual how can it be said that it has “worked” if all it has done is to undermine rational and factual discourse? What “work” has it done in this case?

In defense of the lady: When I was younger there was a law where I lived that mandated that a woman working later than 10 PM (I can’t really remember the time) had to be given a taxi ride home.
Diane Abbot? Working? She is a lifelong politician, therefore has no idea what work is. But I doubt that all the cabs were after 10 PM, regardless.
In the US NYS, and many others, had a law that prohibited women working the 3rd shift. Thus women were utilized for simple non automated day-shift assembly work. When the law changed most companies “grandmothered” these folks to permanent day jobs.
When I worked my way to Production Supervisor in a large photographic company, who at that time had a no “fire or layoff without cause” policy, I inherited a large cadre of wonderful older, friendly ladies who had not the slightest inclination to train on the rotating 3 shift automated dark room equipment which now made up most of our operation.
The saving grace for me was a very generous early retirement program, including SSI bridges.

Eco terrorism is briefed as a very tangible threat. Quite a lot of airline dependent things would happen. Even the slightest attempt will trigger a set of actions including but not limited to this common core:
-Declaration of Level 2 potentially escalating to Level 4 threat.
-Mandatory emergency landing to the quickest suitable location, yes, even on short hauls.
-Immediate handling of the resulting situation by local authorities, might include evacuation.
-A complete legal actions pack including fuel costs.

The IPCC does have some interesting information. For example,
on page 1010 of the IPCC’s WG1AR5, referring to the difference between models and the real world shown in Figure 11.25, it says “Possible reasons why the real world might depart from this range include”… “the possibility that model sensitivity to anthropogenic forcing may differ from that of the real world”
They are saying the models and the real world may have different sensitivities.
I doubt Zion is aware of what this means.
To be fair, I remain unconvinced that the IPCC actually understands what it is saying on sensitivity.
I used to quote the IPCC and link to a reference when I commented on the Guardian.
So they banned me repeatedly. On appeal I was always re-instated (as heresy is not an official misdemeanour by the Guardian rules).

This is war of words. Rebellions are supporters of the ruling elite. I would call Nigel Farage a rebellion, not the young on the streets. Extinction is 0,5 C rise in temperature and millimeters of sea level rise.

I watched this interview live. I try and watch Andrew Neil whenever I can. At the end of this interview I was frustrated that he didn’t have an hour to grill her. I hope she accepts his invitation to come back and do another. I doubt she will.
Miss Light is so deluded she can’t distinguish between light and darkness.
Andrew Neil is the last holdout at the BBC, this single interview is completely a-typical of BBC output and was completely undone by Question Time given over to XR ‘unchallenged’ shortly afterwards.
Neil is actually very well informed on the science and politics of CC but he has to constantly pull his punches, far from shredding the XR talking head, he has to walk a fine line in order to stay on the air and not be sent on a BBC CC re-education course!
In the days when I watched The Daily Politics on the BBC it was very noticeable that Neil was not involved in any story about “Climate Change”, either he was forbidden by the management, or he excused himself. That is the problem with “right-wing” people … too much integrity, they play fair, unlike lefties, who are incapable of hiding their own views.

I’m certain this blithering idiot obsessively looks at her iPhone every 20 seconds, going from Twitter to Facebook to Instagram and back, over and over, like a lab rat in a Skinner box, pushing a lever to deliver a tiny jolt to the pleasure center of its tiny rat brain. The 3 questions I would like to be asked to any ER member are
1. What caused the 130 metre rise in sea level after the last ice age
2. Did they know of this rise.
3. Could Modern Man have been able to stop any of the rise.

Andrew Neil is a skilled interviewer as he demonstrated in this interview.
Neil did not discredit Ms Zion Lite. He invited her to discredit herself on the BBC, and she did.
This was clever because the BBC has a policy of promoting the global warming scare and Neil’s interview of Zion Lite successfully exposed Extinction Rebellion (XR) without opposing XR.

Andrew Neil based his argument with Zion Lights around the contents of IPCC reports. It does not mean the IPCC reports are correct or that he agreed with them. But if you want to beat a zealot at her own game then use her bible against her whether you believe in its contents or not.
James Delingpole at Breitbart, who is no slouch, admittted recently that he had been taken to the cleaners by Andrew Neil in an interview because he had gone into the interview ill-prepared.
Every time I see an interview by a presenter on the subject of climate change I am appalled how little research the presenter has carried out on the subject. Each presenter comes across as lazy and disinterested. Andrew Neil is not one of them.
7 to 9 inches of sea level rise (SLR) per century is not half a meter if my calculations are correct.
That’s the average rate of SLR over the last century, and the SLR is not accelerating according to the DATA that I have seen….
9 inches is more like 0.23 meters. And 7 inches is more like 0.18 meters !!!

Then she talks about putting a man on the moon which- A) used lots and lots of evil fossil fuels, and B) uses science which ER seem to think is ‘false solutions’, so she even contradicts herself. Still, at least the ER troglodytes in our village can teach us how to make our own cleaning products, so all’s well really…..

What I suspect we’re seeing with Greta, and the XR idiots, is a rather subtle way of putting the brakes on Climate Hysteria. And whilst the child prophet and Ms Lights probably see the hordes of middle class followers they attract as being ‘Useful Idiots’ its entirely likely that they themselves are the ones playing the part.
I’d suggest that its entirely apparent to governments the world over that the so called climate emergency is turning out to be something of a Turnip Ghost, but the taxes raised on its back over the last 2 decades or so would be sorely missed. So the whole shebang needs to be deflated slowly pending the arrival of the next ‘Emergency’. Remember the the old chestnut from the world of economics, that recovery from collapse takes the same amount of time that the cause of collapse took to form. Following that logic would give governments 30 years to wind down the climate bus, whilst having another ready in the garage to roll out in say 20 years.
The direction of travel with the way the XR malarkey is being handled probably means that they will be lured into revealing that their plans are just a softer version of the vision held by Pol Pot, at which point it suddenly implodes 🙂
I have been watching and remain an admirer of Neil’s take-no-prisoners methodoloy of political interviewing over the last twenty five years. However, as far as what Neil referred as the “climate change problem” at the beginning of the interview with the ER guest is concerned, Neil has changed considerably – from not believing the notion of human-induced global warming twenty five – to now believing the climate catastrophism that is relentless across British and Irish media. This has been apparent over the last two or three years. Even a paragon of objectivity like Neil seems oblivious that the emergence of St Greta and totalitarian anti-capitalist outfits like Extinction Rabble is moving the goalposts away from questioning the so-called science of climate to chasing unicorns concerning how much or little time we have left to solve “climate change problem”.
Not to mention simple charts….
