New York’s public schools announced Thursday afternoon that they will excuse students who plan on attending various climate strikes throughout the city.
“@NYCschools will excuse absences of students participating in the #ClimateStrike on Friday 9/20,” the NYC Public School’s Twitter account notes. “Students will need parental consent. Younger students can only leave school with a parent.”
“We applaud our students when they raise their voices in a safe and respectful manner on issues that matter to them,” the account adds. “Young people around the world are joining the #ClimateStrike this week—showing that student action will lead us forward.”

The New York Democrat published a tweet earlier in the day praising kids who wish to give up a day to protest climate change.
“We have ten years to save the planet. TEN YEARS. Today’s leaders are making decisions for our environment that our kids will have to live with,” said de Blasio, who is one of roughly 20 Democrats running for president.
Activists with a group called ActionNetwork helped kickstart the the so-called climate strike, which is scheduled to take place Sept. 20 through the 27th.
“Scientists say we have 10 years to stop the climate crisis,” ActionNetwork noted in a statement on its website, mirroring the point de Blasio made in his tweet. “And yet, for the last 40 years, our political leaders have done almost nothing to protect our generation’s future.”
De Blasio has not responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment about whether the mayor plans on attending one of the strikes.

Every State has laws governing mandatory school attendance, usually up to finish of High School or age 18, how does De Blasio issue waivers to State Law?

If I were a teacher there I would hold a tests during that week that accounted for 50% of the course score. Must be in your seat on those days testing or passing the course would not be possible. (without doing 110% of the remaining work flawlessly for a “D”
5 days, 5 tests each one accounts for 10% of the total passing grade.
It’s laughable.

Nor do we have 18 months, or any other arbitrarily nominated date.
I’m pretty certain we do have only 10 years to save the climate. That’s what they’ve been telling us for 30 years now, so at least the story is consistent!
Don’t worry, in ten years we’ll still have only 10 years to save the climate. We still won’t know what from, either, but at least we’ll know how. Just pay them lots of money, and the climate will be saved.

All of these shrill assertions of arbitrary time frames are calls to panic. Anyone telling you to panic is trying to control you, it’s a message that says “don’t think, do as I say now”.
In certain situations that humans have encountered during their evolution this has proved quite useful. For instance, if there is a predator nearby or an out of control fire. Panicing, in the short term, can save your life. But, this response can be (and is) abused to get people to take actions that are against their interests.

In my youth, we were protesting soldiers coming home in body bags. My, how times have changed.

Ironically, those attending the protests are clearly those most in need of extra maths and real sciences.
These “educators” get dumber and uglier every day. They don’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to “science.” AGW and transgender pretty much shoot “science” to hell.

Missing out on a day of school to attend climate strikes throughout the city of New York will just add to and worsen the knowledge of these students about scientific facts and methods and increase their confusion about reality. Rallying at the weekend would have been out of the question, though, I suppose.

Give the kids the whole week off and it won’t matter one iota.
Nothing significant can be accomplished in 10 years. Not enough to stop global warming, if you believe their models. If you really believe the hype you might be better off just making the best of what remains of your life. Let the rest of us enjoy life well into the future without the continual apocalyptic ranting.

If the students were appropriately educasted, they would that what they got in general science regarding climate change was pure propaganda. The reality is that true climate change which has been going on for eons, takes place so slowly that it requires networks of very sophisticated sensors, decades to even detect it. We must not mix up true climate change with weather cycles that are part of the current climate. Based on the paleoclimate record and the work done with models, the climate change we are experiencing today is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control. Despite the hype, there is no real evidence the CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rational that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero. The AGW conjecture may seem plausible at first but upon closer inspection, someone with sufficient science education will find that the AGW conjecture is full of holes. For example, the AGW conjecture depends upon the existence of a radiant greenhouse effect caused by trace gases in the Earth’s atmosphere with LWIR absorption bands. The AGW conjecture ignores the fact that good absorbers are also good radiators and that heat energy transfer by convection dominates over heat transfer by LWIR absorption band radiation in the troposphere. The radiant greenhouse effect has not been observed in a real greenhouse, in the Earth’s atmosphere or anywhere else in the solar system. The radiant greenhouse effect is science fiction so hence the AGW conjecture is science fiction as well.
Reasonable arguments will not deflect the minds of those who are this deluded.

6 months ago, AOC told us we had 12 years. So in climate change math 3 months = 1 year, therefore 10 years is 30 months. So, the world will come to an end in March of 2022. In that case there really is nothing to do but drink all the good booze I had been saving.

Sadly any of these gullables will become even worse than the current batch of teachers.
Most of the teachers weren’t too bright either.
The climate changes, but there is no evidence that it’s a progressive (i.e. monotonic) process. There are hypotheses (“models”) to predict its character, but they have demonstrated no skill to hindcast, let alone forecast, without tuning to reach a consensus with reality. It would be juvenile to change for its own sake.

I think the kids should take a page from Extinction Rebellion and glue themselves to their chairs in the classroom… on a Friday. That may work out for some parents as they realize, “Hey, honey! The kids will be gone this weekend. What say we take a trip to Atlantic City, do a bit of gambling and take in a show?”
Shame on the teachers in our public schools and our elected and appointed government officials. Most of them may be democrats but they’re not all stupid. Surely at least 10% of them have studied the climate issues and understand that wind and solar is a unworkable solution for a non-existent climate emergency. They’re silence could lead to our financial ruin.
If my step-daughter comes home with any hint of such “school” driven strike action, I will be right there the next day discussing with the school head why I was not asked permission for the school to involve my child in such action because they always ask permission for everything else, especially if it is outside school grounds/time.

The public schools of NYC are merely a Yobs program for unionized teachers anyway. So why should anyone be surprised at a day off with pay given by a Socialist Mayor for unionized teachers?

I wonder if students will also be getting a day off if they choose to protest about Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or the Federal Budget Deficit?
Better still, those students might care to take their day off and spend it rectifying the falling vaccination rates against communicable diseases in New York schools. And those teachers also thinking of skiving-off should consider what a poor job they are doing communicating to their students that vaccinations are a State requirement.

In an unusual development, for those choosing NOT to attend the climate “strike”, their names will go on a special list for “special” treatment later. Teachers even now are getting their big red buttons ready.
Last year our local school district decided to support those students who wanted to protest gun violence.
Instead of simply excusing those who decided to walk-out, the school decided that all students would be required to walk out so that teachers could supervise them. They notified all students and parents that attempts to remain in class would not be tolerated, and any student attempting to do so would be subject to disciplinary action.

If these kids are so concerned about climate inaction, why don’t they do their demonstrating after school, on weekends, and holidays?
These uninformed climate justice worriers time would be better spent cleaning up the litter along their march route. Make it special, plant some trees to suck up some of the CO2 they know nothing about.

I suspect that letting kids out of school to protest (whatever) who don’t want to be in school anyway is cheaper than busing in the usual paid protesters to protest (whatever).

Praising kids who give up a day of school? I guess the Mayor was born an adult. I’ve never met a kid who was not thrilled to give up a day at school.
Everyone talks about leaving a better planet for our kids, maybe we should leave better kids for our planet… because the way things are going, the ones coming up are going to destroy it, hearing about manipulated data and accepting it like “gospel” and not questioning it.

The school leaders just announced a day off for the climate protest.
There are 180 days in the NYC public school year.
$34 Billion / 180 days = $189 MILLION dollars.
Nice work if you can get it, just make an announcement, and flush nearly $200 Million dollars down the drain.
It’s not much of a strike if they give you permission to do so. The point of a strike is to disrupt an organization enough that they’ll make this or that change. After this ‘strike’ nothing will change. It is just theater.
