Well, now that I’ve boarded, and there were no extinction rebellion/climate protestors at the dock in Vancouver (a hotbed of climate activism) to shout hateful messages at us, (which wouldn’t go over well with the cruise line at all) I can tell you about it.
I’m on a week long cruise to Alaska with Mark Steyn (who fills in for Rush Limbaugh, is a best-selling author, and is embroiled in a moving-like-molasses lawsuit with butt-hurt climate zealot Dr. Michael Mann). It is one of the few perks I get as a climate skeptic, since those “big oil checks” the climate crusaders say I receive to have an opinion, never seem to arrive.
Mark graciously invited Steve McIntyre, Ross McKittrick, and me on this cruise on the condition that we talk about climate to his hundreds of other guests in a special session coming this Sunday. I’m proud to be the only American on the special “climate denier” ( or as Mark once called me, poking fun at Dr. Mann’s insults about me “Climate denier extraordinaire!” ) guest list.
It is a working trip, and I’ll be writing blog posts about my experiences, the climate of Alaska, the growing in-your-face climate denying Hubbard Glacier, and much more. I also hope to have interviews/podcasts with Mark Steyn, Steve McIntyre, and Ross McKittrick.
Mark, droll as ever, is poking fun at Dr. Mann by giving out hockey stick key-chains.

The “paddle” at the end was already attached by a nut, Michael Mann. Of course since his “screw is loose” it will be easier for him to adjust to show the ever increasing crises.

That was a real concern, part of why I kept it under wraps. These people have no shame and wouldn’t think twice about staging protests.

When I went on an Alaskan cruise about 10 years ago, I had to put up with a “naturalist” who was selling her book I think plus adding comments about climate change. There was no opportunity to question.

Good luck with the glacier. If it recedes, it is because of the warmer temperatures that CO2 produces. If it advances, it is because of the meltwater that the warmer temperatures, due to CO2, produce. Everything is proof that more organic Carbon in the ecosystem will destroy life as we know it (do I really need a sarc tag).
Just remember that polar bears are not cute and cuddly and resist the temptation to have your picture taken stroking one – the same applies to seals.

We tried to fo a landing on a glacier on Mckinley but wx shut everyone down for a week.
My fly fishing trip on the upper Kenai was lost after a mishap had me going to the ER in Soldotna with busted ribs. I’ll make up for it next year. In fact, I plan on going back every year as there is too much area to cover. The geology and grand mountain ranges along with the people are incredible. You may end up staying like so many others. I found it hard to leave.
Enjoy the greatest state, scenery, people and food that only can be found in the USA.

P.S. If you do venture off on nature trails or rivers, be alert for bear activity. They’re feeding for winter now. A guide is highly recommended.
Just in case you try to pan a little, there are recreational areas you can go. Try digging in the banks not in the stream. You’ll see some flakes. The gold in the streams are very deep and boulders make it a real challenge.
I found Talkeetna very interesting as the weather is influenced by Mt. Mckinley and others in Denaki.

Have been in Alaska a few times when our youngest daughter was flying as helicopter pilot at the North Slope (now since a few months flying in Europe). Incredible landscape and lots of real wild wildlife from fishing grizzly’s to moose with young just passing her former house in Anchorage…
Finally, If you do find yourself at the Talkeetna Alaska Lodge, they provide shuttle service to the main town if you wish.
I recommend you fly on K2 Aviation to Mt. Mckinley for a glacier landing or just around the peaks. Top notch outfit

Glacier Bay is a great cruise. Special memories from a few Augusts ago was standing on the top deck in the cool air with a bowl of thick warm green pea soup – watching the mini icebergs float by and the backdrop of beautiful mountains and glaciers.

When I was in Glacier Bay five years ago, a Park Ranger explained to us on our cruise ship that a “healthy glacier” would not be receding in the face of “climate change.”
In the same presentation she told us how the original 18th century explorers could not go up Glacier Bay because it was entirely englaciated, and that access to the Bay was only made possible as the glaciers retreated during the 19th century.
Hello? Wouldn’t that be a sign that “climate change” then had nothing to do with humans? So…why would we assume that humans are causing unprecedented changes now?
Also, she was blissfully unaware that UNLESS the Earth came out of the Little Ice Age, NO ONE, save a few hardy Eskimos, would have been living in Alaska today.

You’re sure right about there being a lot of far left nut jobs in Vancouver, as well as Victoria and the gulf islands just off the coast from Vancouver. I lived there for a couple of years in the early seventies and and it wasn’t too bad then. Not anymore. If you go into the interior of BC and northern BC, it’s not like that. Have a good trip and it sounds like it will be.

Don’t know if you will get into the Mat-Su Valley, but if you do be sure to visit Palmer and take a farm tour.
Palmer was the site (and the result of) the Matanuska colony project during the great depression and is now the primary center of farming activities in Alaska. Over 200 farming families from the northern regions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan were sent to homestead here in the 1930’s. More than half stayed and made this area into a farming community.
Be prepared, though. Much of Alaska, and especially this south-central region has been hit with unusually high temperatures, a severe drought and forest fires this summer so the media and warmists are blaming you-know-what!

Anthony: when in Glacier bay, obtain some of the National Park Service flyers about bay history. It has an interesting section on where the glaciers were positioned variously: pre-little ice age, at the time of George Vancouver, John Muir, etc.
The most interesting thing I found in the brochure was that in the 1600’s (or early 1700’s I don’t remember which) all of Glacier Bay was land-filled clear to Icy Strait, and one summer the glaciers started to rapidly advance. According to the native legends “faster than a dog could run.” They had to abandon their summer camps and run for the hills.
How fun. Good company.

The whole trip up the inside of the islands is on a par with the Norwegian coastal voyage on Hutigruten vessels.

My brother’s going to Churchill in October with a famous (or infamous) travel/education organization. One look at the propaganda …er, I mean information seminars made me cringe. There’s no way I’d pay 8 large to stay in dormitory facilities and be preached that trash.

A B.C. environmentalist is calling for an outright ban on cruise ships coming into Vancouver’s harbour.

Can you find out why polar bears have evolved with BLACK NOSES? Book “Arctic Dreams” has a solution but I’m not sure.
Is it not the case that the skin is all black, just the hair that is white? And hair on your nose would make you sneeze all the time so your prey would hear you long before they saw a black nose, which would be counter productive, for you anyway if not the prey.
I’m insanely jealous! What a team!
Just keep an eye out for low-flying walruses, perhaps wear a cycle helmet just in case.
