Psychiatrist on CNN: Trump May Be Responsible for Millions of More Deaths Than Hitler, Stalin, Mao

Sunday on CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” psychiatrist Dr. Allen Frances said President Donald Trump “may be responsible for many more million deaths” than Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong.

He added, “Trump is as destructive a person in this century as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao were in the last century. He may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were. He needs to be contained but he needs to be contained by attacking his policies, not his person. It’s crazy for us to be destroying the climate our children will live in.

Read more: https://www.breitbart.com/clips/2019/08/25/psychiatrist-on-cnn-trump-may-be-responsible-for-millions-of-more-deaths-than-hitler-stalin-mao/

Dr. Frances goes on to say that it is counterproductive to discuss Trump’s mental state in psychological terms, but he pulls no punches suggesting Trump’s policies are crazy.

I used to wonder if some people were attracted to psychology courses because they wanted to find solutions to their own problems.

I no longer believe this to be the case; but it is way past time the handful of psychology professionals, who in my opinion flout their own ethical guidelines by offering wild public opinions about the mental state of people whose policies they dislike, took a long hard look in the mirror.

”What “Climate Change”?

Yes no climate change here. Winter temps are average. Average min 7C Average max 14C. Was like that 50 years ago and it’s like that this week. Why can’t I get some of this climate change stuff everybody’s talking about…or is it only happening somewhere else??

Just now while I’m typing this some young climate activist is being interviewed on the radio because yet another local council has officially called ”CLIMATE EMERGENCY!!!!!”. Listening to what she says (they are usually millennial girls for some unknown reason) ”warming this”, ”extreme weather that”. blah blah blah. Totally clueless…You know….like CNN et al…

On every subject there is a person with claims to be an expert who is also a beautiful, young woman.
TV is a visual medium. They are the experts who ae chosen.
It’s not just climate change. Watch all the TV news channels and count the number of experts who fit that description.

The enemies’ mistake – I think you are right. The Australian left lost an election in May they were predestined not lose and they obviously lost it because they went full-tilt promising action on the “climate emergency.” The current campaign for the Democratic nomination for president has painted all the candidates into supporting energy policies that are wildly unpopular with a solid majority of voters.

Yang’s idea about giving everyone a $1000 a month, the freedom dividend, is loopy & scary …and wildly popular. It would be a mistake to tax and spend our way to the freedom dividend – it is not a political mistake for David Yang to campaign on it. Be afraid.

In Canada the left taxes us to the limit and then buys our votes with it in the final months of their tenure. Does it work? Sadly, yes. Canadians aren’t an exception re the global left’s abuse of education to robotize people into socialists. All while in the control of the education-marxists, & they’re now hiding their failure, and just speaking about it is forbidden.

If CNN didn’t have contracts to display their blather in airports, where there are captive audiences, they’d likely not have an audience.

That’s where their viewership numbers come from, dismal as they are.

Fortunately, even that is changing… more and more airports are ditching CNN as people request that the channel be changed or the TV be turned off… people are tired of the constant propaganda.

What is disturbing is the statement that Donald Trump killed more people than Hitler, Stalin, and Mao together? What people did Trump kill? I am a Granddaughter of a World War II Veteran who served in the Second Battalion Third Armored Division that liberated some of the concentration camps and was told first hand that Stalin by far killed more people the second place goes to Mao and then Hitler. I don’t understand how Trump could have killed people by what means? Bill Clinton knocked off 22 people. I have never heard Trump knocking off people lately.

Hypothesis: Radical Greens are the Great Killers of Our Age

9. Conclusion

The evidence strongly supports my hypothesis that “Radical Greens are the Great Killers of Our Age”.

The number of deaths and shattered lives caused by radical-green activism since ~1970 rivals the death tolls of the great killers of the 20th Century – Stalin, Hitler and Mao – they advocate similar extreme-left totalitarian policies and are indifferent to the resulting environmental damage and human suffering.

RADICAL GREENS ARE THE GREAT KILLERS OF OUR AGE

Here is some of the supporting evidence:

The banning of DDT from ~1972 to 2002, which caused the malaria deaths of tens of millions of children under five years of age, and sickened and killed many more adults and children;
https://iea.org.uk/publications/research/malaria-and-the-ddt-story

The fierce green opposition to golden rice, actions that blinded and killed millions of children;

https://reason.com/blog/2019/03/07/life-saving-golden-rice-finally-gets-to

The misallocation of scarce global resources for destructive intermittent “green energy” schemes, which are not green and produce little useful (dispatchable) energy;
https://www.manhattan-institute.org/green-energy-revolution-near-impossible

Properly allocated, a fraction of the trillions of dollars squandered on green energy schemes could have installed clean drinking water and sanitation systems into every community on the planet, saving the lives of many tens of millions of children and adults; the remaining funds could have significantly reduced deaths from malaria and malnutrition;
Global Crises, Global Solutions, The 1st Copenhagen Consensus, edited by Bjørn Lomborg, 2004,
Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, UK, 648 pp.

The number of Excess Winter Deaths and shattered lives caused by runaway energy costs in the developed world and lack of access to modern energy in the developing world probably exceeds the tens of millions of malaria deaths caused by the DDT ban; Excess Winter Deaths (more deaths in winter than non-winter months) total about two million souls per year, which demonstrates that Earth is colder-than-optimum for humanity;
https://friendsofsciencecalgary.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/cold-weather-kills-macrae-daleo-4sept2015-final.pdf

Indoor air pollution from cooking fires contributes to illness and premature death in the developing world, especially among women and children;
https://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/statements/2004/statement5/en/

In addition to runaway energy costs and increased winter deaths, intermittent wind and solar power schemes have reduced grid reliability and increased the risk of power outages;

Yes, the MSM fawned all over Obama. They ran interference for him and still do. They cover the positive things and cover up the negative.

The Republicans in Congress were also very hesitant about criticizing Obama for fear of being labeled a racist.

Compared to Trump, Obama had smooth sailing as far as news coverage goes and little criticism from Republicans, and what criticism there was from Repubicans in Congress focused on policy not personality.

Trump isn’t nuts, the media is. And psychiatry is nuts, too. Do you know how they came up with “mental illnesses”? They sat around a table coming up with names for behaviors and voted them into the DSM. There is nothing scientific about it. It’s the second biggest fraud ever perpetrated on mankind.

Reply to  4TimesAYear
August 26, 2019 9:05 am

If it had anything to do with science, there would not be entire categories which appear and then vanish with each and every iteration of the DSM.
And only very rarely is there any clinical findings that lead to when and what some thing is added or deleted.
In other words, as stated, they are basically just making it up as they go.
Gender dysphoria is a good example: It was once a clearly identified mental illness, requiring individual analysis and treatment.
But now it is considered bigoted and hateful to refuse to go along with such dysphoria when it arises in an individual, and those with this condition are being treated as if they are brave victims, while all who know them are being told they must validate these feelings and regard them as not just normal but instead rather desirable.
And all of this despite the knowledge that such people, when left with this condition, have an extreme rate of suicidal ideation and of actually succeeding in harming and/or killing themselves.

TheLastDemocrat

Wow. This is pretty ignorant.

Some “mental illnesses” are fake, or are mislabeled phenomena. Someone who has difficulty with shift work, which is patently unnatural, can be described as having “shift work disorder.” Fake.

Some should not be diagnosed because the cause is something else. If a child is not parented well, and as a result the child cannot get along with orderly society, the problem is “weak parenting.” And, a fitting diagnosis might be “undersocialized.” Which is actually a real diagnosis. But the kid may end up getting the “ADHD” or “Conduct Disorder” label. Erroneously applied.

A principle of psychiatric diagnosis is that you need to rule out other explanations. If a person is from a culture that regularly sees and communicates with their deceased relatives, you want to be slow to diagnose “schizophrenia.”

But some psychiatric diagnoses are extremely well-founded. I have been able to work in social service settings where we came across people who totally fit “schizophrenia” definition. They told us the thoughts being put in their head, that they were being observed, etc. The onsets in these people’s history is very consistent. Symptoms are consistent. Response to antipsychotic medications is consistent.

And, there is ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE that a bunch of psychiatrists sat around and dreamed up schizophrenia, along with other diagnoses. Schizophrenia recognition grew across history, with jumps in recognition, such as with Schneider’s work in “first rank symptoms.” Modern recognition and definition span 1800 with Pinel to 1900 with Bleuler. And forward.

Across time, many concepts of diagnosis were developed. Circa 1950, the military wanted to have these unified in order to understand what problems they were addressing, to what degree, in psych care. So, they created te “DSM” / diagnostic and statistical manual. Basically, how many people with each syndrome, typified by these symptoms, do you have in your hospital?

This was an attempt to add rigor to diagnoses. DSMII similar. With DSMIII, the Am Psychiatric Assoc realized that there were different schools of thought behind diagnoses. To make the world more homogeneous, diagnoses officially became to be based on symptoms and patterns – on empirical evidence – and not on beliefs about how the problem developed. So, psychodynamic psychiatrists no longer could describe things as “neuroses,” meaning the problem arose from a neurosis. And behavioral-minded people like Skinner, etc., and social-context people like Bandura, could not have etiology be a basis. Just symptoms and patterns observed.

The knowledge about which diagnoses genuinely warrant recognition has mightily remained a great line of scholarly and clinical effort. Through DSMIV and DSMV. DSMV included a parallel set of publications, along with the list of diagnoses, and their criteria for diagnosis. This set of pulbications was the collected scholarly evidence, including the empirical stuff. So, you could select a diagnosis and go read a plethora of supporting information for the legitimacy / ontology of the dx, and its symptoms, etc.

The history of how we have regarded PTSD is quite well-documented. The “shell-shocked” of WWI were recognized. As time has gone on, we have developed to now perceive “PTSD.” If you do not know what this is, you might want to go talk to those who have experienced combat, and see what they or their buddies suffer with, post-exposure. Or, ra ppe victims. Yes, tell a set of ra ppe victims that their flashbacks, avoidance, nightmares, etc., is all just a bunch of hooey. Report back to us and tell us how that went.

Do some women falsely cry ra ppe? Sure. Do all women who have experienced this have ptsd? Maybe, maybe not. But I have heard plenty enough to believe in PTSD, from combat vets and ra ppe victims, and others whp experienced life-threatening events, and have similar symptoms following that.

Are the drug companies paying docs to make up more diagnoses, or to “expand'” existing ones, in order to sell more drugs? I am pretty sure this happens a great deal. This does not mean there is no such thing as a psychiatric dx.

Plenty is on wikipedia, and all over the web.

So, when in this history, say 1800 to 2000, was this committee convened to sit around and make up diagnoses? Do you mean the major meetings at which each successive DSM edition was reviewed and refined, per well-defined nosological criteria? Please tell us.

Following on from the mental professor’s thought process, it can’t be long before Pol Pot becomes a hero of the climate alarmists movement, thanks to his revolutionary efforts getting academics and other city based workers on to the land. They were taught how to work hard with their bare hands, to show how life must be lived in a totalitarian paradise.
That piece of social re-profiling, resulted in a net reduction of humanity. That was a good thing in the mind of the “woke progressives”, it shows exactly what can be achieved when those evil fossil fuels are taken away….

How offensive can anyone get? Trivializing the 100 million lives ended by Mao, Stalin, Lenin (who invented the “death camp”), and Pol Pot is the most horrific moral crime I can even imagine. Especially since there is no possible way to link President Trump to any deaths. These people are psychotic.

I voted for Mr. Trump because I knew, from first-hand experience, how corrupt Mrs. Clinton was. I didn’t have any opinion of him at the time. But after hearing him speak, and watching him work, I believe he is one of the few truly good elected official I have ever seen. Another was the late Congressman George E. Brown, Jr., a very liberal Democrat from the 42nd District of California (and a personal friend), so this isn’t a partisan perspective. It has only to do with the moral character of the person. Vice President Pence appeared on a talk radio show shortly before the 2016 election, and concluded his remarks with (paraphrasing) “I hope you will help elect this good man to the Presidency.”

He had an emphasis on the word “good” that struck me at the time. Now, I know what he meant.

And yet China is putting out more CO2 than America.
And Chinese CO2 emissions are increasing, while America’s are decreasing.
So who is the Big Green Ogre here – America or China…?

Surely someone can get the message across that the Greenhouse Effect is non-existent except inside a greenhouse. By my calculation, back-radiation cannot cause anywhere near enough energy to increase the temperature of the Earth by the 33 degree Kelvin Greenhouse Effect. Furthermore, if there was such an effect, the back-radiation of the incoming Sun’s energy out into space would be at least fifty times greater than any internal back-radiation causing the Earth to cool as CO2 concentration increased. See https://www.climateauditor.com under “Greenhouse Effect”.

Interesting, Bevan. I’d be interested to know how your info jibes with the data below.

The ‘transition temperature’ at which the combined translational mode energy of two colliding molecules can begin exciting a radiative molecule’s vibrational mode quantum states dictates when that radiative molecule changes from being a net warming molecule (transfer of vibrational mode energy to translational mode energy) to a net cooling molecule (transfer of translational mode energy to vibrational mode energy).

Obviously the temperature at which the combined translational mode energy of two colliding molecules will be sufficient to excite any particular molecular species’ vibrational mode quantum states will be different between molecular species, but the concept holds true for any molecular species capable of emitting radiation.

For CO2, that ‘transition temperature’ is ~288 K.

The public has been told only half the story as regards energetic interactions of atmospheric molecules. They’ve been told CO2 causes warming by conversion of vibrational mode energy to translational mode energy under all conditions… and that this process can cause catastrophic warming. Yes, CO2 can cause warming under certain circumstances… up to a certain temperature and at certain altitudes.

The below is what they’re not being told… that above ~288 K, the combined translational mode energy of two colliding molecules is sufficient to begin significantly vibrationally exciting CO2, which increases the time duration during which CO2 is vibrationally excited and therefore the probability that it radiatively emits.

The vibrational mode quantum state energy levels of CO2:

The absorbed energy in Reaction (33) once again comes from translation. Two reactions of type (33) must occur for every one of the type indicated by Reaction (32) to maintain the CO2 in thermal equilibrium. The removal of energy from the translational modes by Reactions (32) and (33) cools the CO2 molecular system, and, concomitantly, the air.

The energetic pathways by which translational mode (kinetic) energy (which we sense as temperature) is converted to vibrational mode energy then to radiation (utilizing modern nomenclature and accounting for higher vibrational mode quantum states).

X (at ~288K+) + CO2{v20(0)} (at ~288K+) –> X + CO2{v21(1)} –> CO2{v20(0)} + 667.4 cm-1

X (at ~288.1K+) + CO2{v21(1)} (at ~288.1K+) –> X + CO2{v22(2)} –> CO2{v21(1)} + 667.8 cm–1 –> CO2{v20(0)} + 667.4 cm-1

X (at ~288.2K+) + CO2{v22(2)} (at ~288.2K+) –> X + CO2{v23(3)} –> CO2{v22(2)} + 668.10 cm–1 –> CO2{v21(1)} + 667.8 cm–1 –> CO2{v20(0)} + 667.4 cm-1

X denotes any atmospheric molecule. The Equipartition Theorem dictates that all molecules at exactly the same temperature will have exactly the same translational mode energy, regardless of their molecular weight. Lower molecular weight molecules will have a higher speed, whereas higher molecular weight molecules will have a lower speed, but at the same temperature, they’ll all have the same translational mode (kinetic) energy.

In order for CO2 to be vibrationally excited, it requires the energy equivalent to a 14.98352 µm photon, equating to a CO2 speed of 425.92936688660114 m/s or an N2 speed of 533.8549080851558 m/s. For CO2, the Boltzmann Factor probability of one of its molecules being at a speed of 425.92936688660114 m/s; and for N2, the Boltzmann Factor probability of one of its molecules being at a speed of 533.8549080851558 m/s is 0.8461 at 288 K. In other words, at 288 K, for every 100 molecules which are at the Most Probable Speed, another ~84 molecules will be at the speed necessary to vibrationally excite CO2.

The Maxwell-Boltzmann Speed Distribution of N2 and CO2 at 288K:
comment image
You’ll note the ratio between the top-left and top-right ‘fraction of gas’, and the bottom-left and bottom-right ‘fraction of gas’ in the image above is ~0.84… the Boltzmann Factor probability mentioned prior (0.8461 at 288 K).

The conversion of translational mode energy (which we sense as temperature) to vibrational mode energy is, by definition, a cooling process.

The emission of the resultant radiation to space is, by definition, a cooling process.

An increased atmospheric CO2 concentration will increase the likelihood of atmospheric molecular collision with CO2, thereby increasing the likelihood of CO2 radiatively emitting, thereby increasing the radiative cooling effect.

Therefore, CAGW is a physical impossibility by the above interactions alone.

But there are other interactions:

X (at ~288K+) + N2{v1(0)} (at ~288K+) –> X + N2{v1(1)} –> N2{v1(1)} + CO2{v20(0)} –> N2{v1(0)} + CO2{v3(1)} –> CO2{v1(1)} + 961.54 cm-1

X (at ~288K+) + N2{v1(0)} (at ~288K+) –> X + N2{v1(1)} –> N2{v1(1)} + CO2{v20(0)} –> N2{v1(0)} + CO2{v3(1)} –> CO2{v20(2)} + 1063.83 cm-1

We can use the Boltzmann Factor to determine the vibrationally excited population of N2 due to translational-vibrational (t-v) collisional processes.

N2{v1(1)} (stretch) mode at 2345 cm-1 (4.26439 µm), correcting for anharmonicity, centrifugal distortion and vibro-rotational interaction

1 cm-1 = 11.9624 J mol-1
2345 cm-1 = 2345 * 11.9624 / 1000 = 28.051828 kJ mol-1

The Boltzmann factor at 288 K has the value 1 / (2805.1828 / 288R) = 0.10266710 which means that 10.26671% of N2 molecules are in the N2{v1(1)} excited state due to translational-vibrational (t-v) processes.

Given that CO2 constitutes 0.041% of the atmosphere (410 ppm), and N2 constitutes 78.08% of the atmosphere (780800 ppm), this means that 4.1984 ppm of CO2 is excited to its {v3} mode quantum state via collisional translational-to-vibrational (t-v) processes, whereas 80162.3936 ppm of N2 is excited via the same (t-v) processes. This is a ratio of 1 vibrationally excited CO2 to 19093 vibrationally excited N2. You’ll note this is 10.028 times higher than the total CO2:N2 ratio of 1:1904, and 195 times more vibrationally excited N2 molecules than all CO2 molecules (vibrationally excited or not). Thus energy will flow from the higher-energy and higher-concentration vibrationally-excited N2 to vibrationally ground-state CO2.

The conversion of translational mode energy (which we sense as temperature) to vibrational mode energy of N2 is by definition, a cooling process.

The transfer of that N2 vibrational mode energy to vibrational mode energy of CO2, then that energy being emitted to space as radiation is, by definition, a cooling process. The resultant radiation from the last two energetic pathways is in the Infrared Atmospheric Window, thus any upwelling radiation has a nearly unfettered path out to space.

An increased atmospheric CO2 concentration will increase the likelihood of vibrationally-excited N2 colliding with CO2, thereby increasing the likelihood of CO2 radiatively emitting, thereby increasing the radiative cooling effect.

Five energetic pathways which show that CAGW (Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming due to CO2) is a physical impossibility.

If a process (catastrophic atmospheric warming due to CO2) cannot occur at the quantum level, it most certainly cannot occur macroscopically.

The leftist Climate Alarmists are already killing millions every year by blocking World Bank development loans to 3rd world countries for energy plant construction (and other anti-development restrictions, particularly in agricultural chemicals and practices).

Meanwhile, Climate related deaths are at historically low levels and still falling fast. And extreme weather events are not getting worse and sea levels are not accelerating. “Climatewise”, this is historically the best of times. Nothing like the Little Ice Age. Nothing like the 1930’s when the world was probably much warmer (don’t know for sure world wide for extreme lack of temperature data, but America and Europe certainly went through hell back then). Nothing like the 60’s and 70’s with more severe winters. Who knows what the optimum temperature is? But the optimum is probably right about where it is now. These may actually be THE BEST OF TIMES climatologically, but you’d never know that from the fake news from the lying propaganda press and the exaggerated and mostly unsubstantiated “studies” pouring out of what’s left of taxpayer supported, money grubbing, leftist Academia.

Allen Frances is a very distinguished academic. He taught at New York Hospital Cornell Medical School and was chairman of the psychiatry department at Duke University Medical School. He was the editor of DSM IV (the 4th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association). He was very critical of the 5th edition that superseded the 4th 6 years ago.

He is 77 years old, and as far as I know retired from active practice. I meet him on a more than casual social basis some years ago and he was a very good host to us.

Like every other American, Dr. Frances is entitled to his opinion on subjects of public concern. As a professional, he is bound to not give an opinion about the mental health of a living person he has not examined. However, I think he was trying to disclaim that by saying “he needs to be contained by attacking his policies, not his person”.

Dr. France’s ethical/judicial opinion about Trump’s culpability for climate change and its impact is the opinion of a layman and worth no more than that that of any other layman. It was malpractice of journalism for CNN to put him on television and ask him for his opinion on a subject he has no particular expertise on. Stelter’s excuse that he was distracted by equipment problems is simply lame.

None of this is to say that I agree with Dr. Frances. I think his statement is truly deficient because of number of scientific and political facts. In short, the belief that “climate change” is a net harm to humanity is the top layer of a multi layer cake of theories and inferences none of which are well founded or well established. Sadly, I think Dr. Frances like millions of other people in the US and Europe has been caught up in a campaign of hysteria that has created a climate of fear.

OTOH, I think some of the commentors on this page have over reacted to something that is quite trivial. I hope that the readers of this weblog will learn that a calm disposition and analytic thinking are of themselves valuable.

Even if he really believes that millions have, or will die because of CAGW, to place it fully at only Donald Trump’s feet is completely irrational. I would like to be kind to the aging Dr. Frances and say he just exercised bad judgement in his pronouncement, but even that is too far to step back, at least for me. The word “may” has no contextual impact. You can invert the statement and it has the same impact– Trump may not not be responsible for millions more death. Why? Because it has not happened yet, and because there is no path now that we are taking that will lead to the certifiable outcome of “millions” of deaths or no deaths.

But don’t let that hold back the media.

The reality is that climate change is happening so slowly that it takes networks of very sophisticated sensors, decades to even detect it. We must not mix up climate cycles which are part of the current climate with true climate change. Based on the paleoclimate record and the work done with models, the climate change we are experiencing is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control. Despite the hype, there is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rationale to support the idea that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero so even if we eliminated all CO2 from our atmosphere which would end life on this planet as we know it, eliminated all CO2 from our atmosphere would have no effect on climate. But even if we could somehow stop the Earth’s climate from slowly changing, extreme weather events and sea level rise would continue because they are part of the current climate. So the best that we can do to protect ourselves from the ravages of extreme weather events and sea level rise is to improve the economy so that we can invest more in improving infrastructure that protects us from the ravages of extreme weather events. I believe that is what the president is doing.

The statement about Trump being worse than 3 of the words biggest mass murders says everything you need to know about the IQ of the CNN base they are trying to hold on to .
All Trump has done is reduced unemployment, stood up for the country while so far trying to stay out of wars ,
and ripped the facade of the MSM for being a criminal cartel of communist lovers .
The difference in the USA is those false comments would have that commentator “disappeared” in the era of Stalin , Hitler and Zedong. I assume the idiot doesn’t have family but they would be gone to by now too .
Welcome to America . You can be a complete moron and live another day .
Just wait time the “mad man ” gets reelected . The alt left will have another 4 year melt down but it’s funny they never move out of the USA as promised they just cry and stamp their feet and make idiot statements on tanking CNN .

One day, if you happen to live long enough, there will be six inch headlines in all major newspapers:
“Psychiatrist (or psychologist) helps patient!”
It will be big news as it will be a first.
