The billionaire financier and Democratic donor said in an interview that he is the only 2020 candidate willing to declare climate change a national emergency. Doing so, he claims, will allow him to bring the full power of the executive branch to bear on what he sees as an economic and ecological crisis that for years has defined his public and philanthropic persona.

“The question is what is going to make everyone come to the idea that not a problem, but it’s an emergency,” Steyer said. “It’s sort of like, this is 1940. We have a problem but we haven’t had Pearl Harbor.”
Trump’s embrace of executive actions has whetted the appetites of Democrats eyeing the White House. Steyer and other Democrats are openly talking about how they would harness and further expand the power of the executive branch instead of working with Congress.

Laugh now, but I believe Steyer has a good chance of defeating the other low energy Democrat candidates.
Steyer’s ideas might seem outrageous, maybe even a little crazy, but I don’t think he is a fake – he really seems to believe in what he is saying.
I personally think Steyer’s climate ideas if implemented would lead to great suffering, and his plans to make the executive even more powerful, well we have all seen where that can lead. But if Steyer convinces enough people to join his crusade to save the world, it is not my concerns which will count.
But, but, I thought the left hated those nasty, rich white men ?? lol
He would have to walk away from managing his hedge funds. As President, he would be responsible for making decisions that would negatively affect the funds he is supposed to be managing. Talk about conflicting interests.
Perhaps he will be the first billionaire to spend Hundred$ of Million$ on a Presidential Campaign and lose half his fortune in the process of not getting elected.
Don’t worry, a Democrat congress will pass an exemption for him.

The truly staggering thing is that Steyer’s delusions are considered mainstream politics in Kalifornia. The single party system here is so entrenched that the rule of law isn’t even acknowledged in its obviation. Ask any parent writing a five digit check for a University of California college student what they think of the State Constitution that forbids tuition for residents.

This means that for months and months and possibly years, Mann was looking at a huge data set which did not support the narrative, no matter what he did.

NASA GISS and NOAA both. Constant and repeated “adjustments” to the data sets. The researchers have concluded that without “fixing” the historical data going back to 1880, the narrative falls apart.

At some point, the politicians pull a researcher aside and ask quietly for the straight story.
“Is this thing real?”

Al Gore warns of 20, 30, 50 feet of sea level rise by 2100. Then he goes out and spends $10 million on a seaside condo in San Francisco. The lobby of the building is only 3 feet above sea level (mean high water). He Knows.

I always get a kick out of Millenials and their love of the Zombie Apocalypse narrative.
The typical Millennial sees themselves as the few human survivors, fighting to ward off the hoard of un-dead trying to eat them.
Sadly, they don’t seem to understand the implications of the statistics of 95% zombie population. If 95% of the population is “zombie-fied” that translates to the odds of any one person being “normal” are just 1 in 20. Which means the odds of being the zombie are extremely high.

Steyer made his billions in the hedge fund market, not by producing anything of value. Isn’t he the kind of guy that most of the Democrat candidates hate with a passion and claim are all Republicans? Market liquidity has value.

All over the world, countries that once had a future have fallen into dictatorship, poverty and misery. It is notable that of the ~167 large countries in the world, most are totalitarian states, and all but “the chosen few” citizens of these countries suffer under brutal leftist dictatorships.
Radical greens have used wildly exaggerated stories of runaway global warming and climate change to stampede the gullible, in order to achieve their political objectives. The greens claim to be pro-environment, but their policies have done enormous environmental damage. Radical greens have also been destructive to humanity, causing millions of deaths.
It doesn’t hurt to inundate and inculcate school (and college) age kids teaching this crap so they fear they won’t have a future in 30 years. On today’s local news (here in FL) they said that this last July was the hottest on record. July last year was the hottest on record but this one was hotter. In the last decade we’ve had the four hottest Julys on record. The lies keep coming and eventually it breaks down the barriers we have to keep our sanity. I mean, come on, giving me a temperature that is to the hundredth or thousandth of a degree as degree should stretch anybody’s idea of credulity.
The downside to constant broadcasting of “doom and destruction with no hope in sight” is a few too-near-the-edge individuals seem to think it acceptable to go out with a bang and shoot up a festival.

Communist Stalin killed about 50 million Russians, Ukrainians, and others – also his own people. National Socialist Hitler killed another 50 million people on all sides in WW2. Lesser leftist dictators like Pol Pot and other Tin Pots killed many millions more in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The Iowa polls favour Elizabeth Warren to win the Dem. nomination in that state. A major British bookmaker now favours her to win the Dem. nomination.

Warren’s Climate Change Plan:
Here’s my plan for that: Invest $2 trillion over the next ten years in green research, manufacturing, and exporting — linking American innovation directly to American jobs, and helping achieve the ambitious targets of the Green New Deal.
I guess it depends on what you read. Last I looked, can’t remember where, Biden was ahead, but they have been throwing him under the bus lately. I think Biden/Gabbard could beat Trump actually, but the Dims will go with Bernie or Warren fortunately and, as mentioned above, Steyer will waste another billion on his misplaced vanity project. Hey, at least some political sciences graduates from California Universities are getting some temporary employment.
My take on it is that the whole slate is beyond hopeless, absolutely and utterly hopeless. Almost without exception, they are all just plain Looney-Tunes.
One or two exceptions:
Tulsi Gabbard, seems straight up, reasonable, and not Looney. She is currently on duty serving with the National Guard (bless her), they must hate that. But is she presidential material? No, not yet. Give it time, and maybe. That said, the rest of the field is utterly unfit and thankfully, unelectable.
This is just the sort of situation where you would expect someone to see an opportunity and jump in. So Steyer jumps in. I agree with you that Warren had a good chance at the nomination before Steyer’s entry. But she is just the sort of big money, well connected insider the democrats profess to hate, at least to their base. In a general election her negatives are through the roof. She would sell in MA, CA, and maybe NY, and nowhere else.
So Steyer is in. He could buy the nomination and work his will on the DNC with moves similar to what Clinton pulled last time around. Remember, the party has “Super Delegates” which can be used to control primary results. That takes care of Warren. The only ones left standing are Bernie and Biden. Two Old White Men. Ironic that is just what the Democrat party has spent these last several years demonizing. Both have small but fanatical bases. But the fanaticism does not make up for their small size. The rest of the democrat base would stay home and sit out the election. This would be a complete wipe for the Democrats, costing bigly in the House and the Senate. There is a good bet the DNC knows all this. They desperately need a White Knight to ride in and save them. Steyer thinks he is the one. Everybody else is not so sure.
We shall see.
‘Mandatory” will become the newspeak. Always with a simplistic justification to instil fear and always with a deadline and always with some kind of fake-tax attached. And always a diminution of basic freedoms and more power to the state/elites corporates. A same-old, same-old pattern continues.

You are going to have to find something with some reality behind it, guys. He’s unlikable and certainly not electable.
Remind me, what executive actions has Trump taken, other then to cancel out the ones Obama took? I honestly can’t think of anything.

Since I’m having a fairly optimistic day, I’m siding with those who said yes, they do know it’s all crap and are not insane in any clinical sense. Yes, it’s all about grasping for power, and no, they will not enact any legislation more potent than throwing a token bone to the activists and workaday numbskulls who put them in power, just like 99% of these swine once they take office. Sucking up to Greta is the 21st-century equivalent of kissing babies in front of photographers.
I hope I’m right, because the alternative – the possibilities I consider when I’m not feeling optimistic – is really too awful to contemplate.

It is irrelevant, other than for entertainment value, who enters the Democrat field. The DNC will decide on who their candidate will be, just as they did in 2016. My money is on this: After all the debate and primary mudslinging is over, they will choose Michael / Michelle O. to save the party. Using this approach, he / she will appear pristine.
I saw the ads on Facebook, read the comments, and he was getting flamed from the right (“you’re an idiot”) and the left (“don’t get in the way of better candidates who understand the climate crisis and might win”). I don’t see how he’ll get the necessary support, especially in a crowded field.

Steyer should examine the years around 1940, and if he did he would see it was just as warm then as it is now, which means we are not currently experiencing unprecedented warming, and that means there is no CAGW to worry about, so Tom Steyer can save his money and go home now.
I thought Stever needed to get 2% in 4 separate polls in addition to bribing 130,000 distinct donors to qualify for the 3rd debate? Has he done that? And seriously, wouldn’t it be simple for a guy with his $$ to fake donors?
On another not, it’s hilarious (especially for those of us who live in the Socialist Feminist Republic of Martha Washington) that Klimate Kandidate WA Gov Jay Insleep is being eclipsed by the megalomaniac Steyer.
Unfortunately Insleep’s failure as a Klimate Kandidate means that he’ll likely end up running for (and winning) a 3rd term as Governor, continuing to inflict the misery of Warmunism on our once-free State.

For one thing, Trump isn’t issuing any more executive orders than previous presidents.
What wets the Democrat’s appetites is the thought of expanding their powers.
Fortunately, there is still a U.S. Constitution, and executive orders cannot rewrite laws established by Congress. Exective orders can interpret laws in many ways and can cause harm if used the wrong way, but that harm can be fixed if Congress decides it needs to pass specific laws to address abuse fostered by a presidential executive order.
In other words, becoming president does not give Steyer a blank check to act. He is bound by the U.S. Constitution, just as Trump is bound.
I want the Democrats to try to sell to Americans that they give up their gasoline cars, their airplanes, their cattle, and they have to have a windmill on every corner. I can tell you right now, Americans are *not* going to buy it. It’s a sure loser.
Oh good … if Steyer is elected (a big if), then the U.S. can show the rest of the world just how destructive following the climate cult is. I was beginning to think we in the UK would have that dubious “pleasure”.

There is no climate crises. Currently climate change is so slow that it takes networks of sophisticated sensors decades to even detect it. We must be careful to not mix up weather cycles which are past of the current climate with true climate change. But even if we could somehow stop the climate from changing, extreme weather events and sea level rise would continue because they are part of the current climate. So there is nothing to be gained by stopping the Earth’s climate from changing.
Based on the paleoclimate record and the work done with models, the reality is that the climate change we are experiencing today is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control. Despite the hype, there is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rationale that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero.
Lowering CO2 emissions by decreasing the use of fossil fuels in the USA will have little effect on global CO2 emissions. For those who believe in the radiant greenhouse effect, the effect is dominated by H2O most of which comes from the oceans and other bodies of water. The CO2 contribution is trivial. No way are we going to reduce total greenhouse gases and hence have any effect on the total radiant greenhouse effect.
The AGW conjecture sounds plausible at first but a more detailed examination uncovers that the AGW conjecture is based on only partial science and is full of holes. For example, the AGW conjecture depends upon the existence of a radiant greenhouse effect in the Earth’s atmosphere provided for by trace gases with LWIR absorption bands. Such a radidnt greenhouse effect has not been observed in a real greenhouse, in the Earth’s atmosphere or anywhere else in the solar system for that matter. The radiant greenhouse effect is hence science fiction so hence the AGW conjecture is science fiction as well. Apparently Steyer is basing his campaign on science fiction.

I seem to remember reading that some German guy did that in 1933. He leaned on his legislative chamber (the Reichstag) to pass a bill called the Enabling Act. It essentially gave him and his cronies absolute power. The move was portrayed as necessary because of an urgent emergency in the condition of the German people (which, to digress, was a lot more real than the alleged climate emergency we’re supposed to be facing today, and that’s probably what made it so easy, people wanted a leader to get things done in a hurry. People were hungry). He was working in what was more like a parliamentary system, and he had to contend with a head of state, who happened to be a doddering old fool, so it was easy enough to lean on him too, to sign the bill.
With a compliant legislature, it’s easy.
If it happens in your exceptionally large, rich, diverse, powerful country, it won’t look anywhere near so ugly or obvious, and there won’t be men in brown shirts marching through the streets breaking windows. It will all be smooth, polished and PR-ed to the point where it will look like a picnic for everyone. It will probably be done incrementally, so no one will really notice how bad it is until it’s too late.
Impossible? No. Unlikely? Yes, very, but don’t get too complacent. Please.
