Gore Says His Global Warming Predictions Have Come True? Can He Prove It?

From Issues and Insights

J. Frank Bullitt

When asked Sunday about his 2006 prediction that we would reach the point of no return in 10 years if we didn’t cut human greenhouse gas emissions, climate alarmist in chief Al Gore implied that his forecast was exactly right.

Some changes unfortunately have already been locked in place,” he told ABC’s Jonathan Karl.

“Sea level increases are going to continue no matter what we do now. But, we can prevent much larger sea level increases. Much more rapid increases in temperature. The heat wave was in Europe. Now it’s in Arctic. We’re seeing huge melting of the ice there. So, the warnings of the scientists 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 30 years ago, unfortunately were accurate.”

Despite all this gloom, he’s found “good news” in the Democratic presidential field, in which “virtually all of the candidates are agreed that this is either the top issue or one of the top two issues.”

So what has Gore been predicting for the planet? In his horror movie “An Inconvenient Truth,” he claimed:

Sea levels could rise as much as 20 feet. He didn’t provide a timeline, which was shrewd on his part. But even if he had said 20 inches, over 20 years, he’d still have been wrong. Sea level has been growing for about 10,000 years, and, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, continues to rise about one-eighth of an inch per year.

Storms are going to grow stronger. There’s no evidence they are stronger nor more frequent.

Mt. Kilimanjaro was losing its snow cap due to global warming. By April 2018, the mountain glaciers were taking their greatest snowfall in years. Two months later, Kilimanjaro was “covered by snow” for “an unusually long stint. But it’s possible that all the snow and ice will be gone soon. Kilimanjaro is a stratovolcano, with a dormant cone that could erupt.

Point of no return. If we have truly gotten this far, why even care that “virtually all” of the Democratic candidates have agreed that global warming is a top issue? If we had passed the point of no return, there’d be no reason to maintain hope. The fact Gore’s looking for a “savior” from among the candidates means that even he doesn’t believe things have gone too far.

A year after the movie, Gore was found claiming that polar bears’ “habitat is melting” and “they are literally being forced off the planet.” It’s possible, however, that there are four times as many polar bears as there were in the 1960s. Even if not, they’ve not been forced off the planet.

Also in 2007, Gore started making “statements about the possibility of a complete lack of summer sea ice in the Arctic by as early as 2013,” fact-checker Snopes, which leans so hard left that it often falls over and has to pick itself up, said, before concluding that “Gore definitely erred in his use of preliminary projections and misrepresentations of research.”

Gore the bore needs to pull his head out of his ass by not relying on false data about ‘global warming’.He’s making a ton of money making all these fake, alarmists speeches, accusing us of being responsible for climate change. He started out with a few million dollars before ending up making almost 100 million dollars on these speeches throughout the years! Gore should do his homework and learn the real inconvenient truth by reading up on the research of author John L.Casey, who is currently the president of the Space and Science Research Corporation(SSRC),which specializes in the science and planning for the next climate change to decades of cold weather, including its predicted concurrent ill-effects of record earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The SSRC is the primary,USA advocate for national and global preparedness for this next cold-climate era.

In Casey’s book,’Upheaval:Why catastrophic earthquakes will soon strike the U.S’.,(copyright 2016)the reviews say that Casey presents good evidence that there’s a link between sunspot cycles and earthquake/volcanic activity. He also says these catastrophic earthquakes will start hitting our planet within the next 20 years. From 2016 copyrighted book,,that would mean between now and 2036.Casey is no slouch and i’m just wondering if you think there’s any kind of link whatsoever with what Casey talks about.Have you read the book? I want to buy the book, But it’s freaking expensive;about 25$ to 30 $ on Amazon.Anyway, what’s your opinion on all this? With the grand solar minimum approaching of almost zero sunspots, does the cold cycle of the sun affect geological forces of the earth as well of course as the global temps.on earth?

I was sort of hoping you can help me with that.I plan to by the book eventually. But right now,it’s 25 to 30 dollars on Amazon and i’m waiting for the price to go down a little. I could only guess what the mech is.I’m not a scientist.I just have a casual interest in earth Science. Casey seems to equate cold cycles of the sun to affecting geological forces of the earth.Since cold temps cause things to contract,is that a clue as to how it can affect the fault lines? I hope to read the book eventually when it’s more affordable.Do you have any clue as to what Casey was conveying? Can space weather affect the geology of the earth? It’s really interesting stuff.

Thanks henryp. That’s interesting stuff.According to John L Casey,we’re in for a rough time between now and 2036 with catastrophic earthquakes and volcanoes occurring more frequently due to the coming grand solar minimum whereas the sun will have hardly any or no sunspots at all in the decades ahead leading to much colder average world temps, harsher winters, and cooler summers.

This is a interesting topic as there are real observations to discuss, but not in this thread.

This is one of set of peer reviewed studies that found there is correlation of mid-ocean ridge earthquake frequency with planetary temperature change.

https://www.omicsonline.org/open-access/have-global-temperatures-reached-a-tipping-point-2573-458X-1000149.pdf

Two previous studies, The Correlation of Seismic Activity and Recent Global Warming (CSARGW) and the Correlation of Seismic Activity and Recent Global Warming: 2016 Update (CSARGW16), documented a high correlation between mid-ocean seismic activity and global temperatures from 1979 to 2016 [1,2].

Mid-ocean ridge earthquake frequency worldwide increased by 300% starting in 1997. There is no physical explanation as to how a 300% increase in earthquake frequency worldwide is even possible.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/02/180207151842.htm

Here is one of the paradoxes related to this subject.

Theoretically, at the current temperature, the planet’s liquid core should not crystallization.

Earthquakes and volcanoes are planetary giant energetic systems funded in earth dynamics. Climate change and sunspots are many orders of magnitude smaller in effect.

For example the largest volcano known in the solar system is Olympus Mons on Mars. The peak is 22km (!) above the plain. It is certainly colder on Mars and a few degrees temperature change one way or the other makes no difference.

Regarding earthquakes (many associated with vulcanism) Plate tectonics and its stress transmission around the globe is the biggest generator. Plate tectonics broke up the proto single continent Pangea into pieces which developed into the continents of today. Think about the energy required when you read this link:

… think about the energy. I do.

See my above comment that has a link to peer reviewed paper that discussions the strange increase in mid-ocean ridge earthquake frequency and its correlation to planetary temperature change. The earthquake frequency change leads the temperature change by two years.

Yes and an increase in worldwide mid-ocean ridge earthquakes by a factor of three in frequency (same distribution of magnitude just more earthquakes per year) would require three times more energy. There is no other physical possibility.

There is a geological mystery to solve. What is the force that is causing mid-ocean ridge earthquakes and why is it changing so fast?

I noticed a trend when I looked at theb20 biggest quakes recorded on seismograph. Most of the biggest occured in SC14 SC20 and SC24. 1906 SF. 1964 Anchorage. 2007 Indonesia quake and tsunami. Fuchashima. Chile 2009 I think. Anyway at least 2/3 of all the quakes were in quiet solar activity. Coincidence most likely but the 3 New Madrid earthquakes occured in the Dalton Minimum. Time will tell and geology is not my area of expertise.

Gore in inconvenient truth claimed sea level rise could be 20 feet and therefore he was WRONG.

https://scienceline.org/2008/12/ask-rettner-sea-level-rise-al-gore-an-inconvenient-truth/

Sea levels have been rising all the time since Gore has been alive and well before, so he only stated what was already happening. The skill in that is zero and anybody could say that, it’s the result and prediction what is judged whether right or wrong.

He claimed they could rise 20 feet and that is not even remotely correct because it was with the view that Greenland and Western Antarctica glaciers would melt. The latter fails to get above zero c in summer, so would take something extraordinary like a super volcano suddenly appearing under it for anything remote like that to happen.

A 2mm to 3mm sea level rise per year (observed by satellites previously) would barely reach between 162mm and 243mm by 2100. This is made worse further using GIA as a fudge technique.

As for the Nobel Prize itself, it has degraded to the point of being equivalent to a Crackers Jack toy, except for the monetary award part (around $1 million). The decline in the prestige of the Nobel Peace Prize awards began with the co-award to Henry Kissinger in 1973, continued with the co-award to Yasser Arafat in 1994, and accelerated downward with awards to Al Gore in 2007 and Barack Obama in 2009. Can somebody review a new book called “The Rise and Fall of the Carbon Dioxide Theory of Climate Change” by Rex Fleming

It is published this month by Springer. From the blurb:

This book provides a complete review of the role of CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere and reveals detailed information about the subject of climate change. Many different science disciplines are visited and discussed and each area is introduced with a brief summary written to appeal to a broader audience. The logic of CO2 involvement in changing the climate is investigated from every perspective: reviewing the historical data record of Ice Ages with vast ice sheets, noting the interglacial periods of little or no ice, examining in further detail the 20th century data record and evaluating the radiation role of CO2 in the atmosphere. The radiation calculations, using the appropriate equations and data are reviewed in great detail. The results of this review and examination reveal no role of CO2 in any change of the Earth’s climate.

About the Author

Dr. Rex J. Fleming is a mathematician with a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the U. of Michigan. He has over 50 years of experience as a scientist and manager in weather and climate research. He has published peer reviewed scientific papers from 1971 to 2018. He has represented the Unites States of America at several international science meetings, including as the Chief Delegate at the First United States Ocean Climate Delegation to the People’s Republic of China in 1982. He was awarded the Department of Commerce Gold Medal Award (1980) for outstanding achievement in directing the U.S. role in the Global Weather Experiment (FGGE). He was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (1982) for contributions to atmospheric science. From his retired position as a consultant in the aerospace business he has used his own funds to carry out research on climate issues.

He has an important paper on the chaos associated with the large scale instability of the atmosphere and a book on combining the Stochastic Dynamic Equations with the Monte Carlo approach to investigate nonlinear systems in more detail.

Now Gore lies about his lies. My hat’s off: that takes a real talent.
Geology Prof. Ian Plimer identifies 35 lies plus 25 exaggerations in Gore’s 2006 film, an inconvenient truth. Sometimes you just have to shake your head & laugh out loud.

Plimer claims the odds of 35 lies all tending to support the warmist/alarmist cause are 34 billion to one, IIRC.

When Gore was facing Lord Christopher Monckton in a Brit court of law, the judge called a halt after 9 lies were exposed. Perhaps he got bored?
Rather politely terming Gores’ lies “errors of fact”, the judge deemed the film “political”.

Lies pushed for political purposes is propaganda.

Plimer’s great book: Heaven And Earth, Global Warming: The Missing Science
500 pages, 2,000 + references to peer-reviewed papers etc.
Well referenced & indexed.
Enjoy.

Gore’s stuff has made the headline news 1,000 times and he got a Nobel peace Prize and an Emmy for it. Somebody that earned such prestigious awards needs to have their work held to high standards.

You are attempting to establish that ‘skeptics’ have made wrong predictions in the past.

I take this to mean that you accept that Al Gore’s predictions have all been wrong.

The drivers are renewable, yes.

A new ice age? That was the original prophecy of catastrophic anthropogenic climate change, before it underwent an identity change.

Second lowest. So, not a catastrophic process. A chaotic process that ebbs and flows.

German wind turbines and photovoltaic panels are a burden on the grid without a sustainable, reliable backup, and primarily suitable for non-mission critical applications. It’s a niche solution that is viable in certain climates.

This graph of arctic sea ice levels hasn’t been posted in a while. It gives a little more perspective than starting from 1979:

I’ve been following climate change blogs since long before 2008…I have never read any skeptic predicting a new ice age by 2019. I have, on the other hand, seen warmistas claiming that one will be here in short order for some of us (a la “the Day After Tomorrow”) by altering North Atlantic currents due to melting Arctic ice.

I have seen you claim that 3 x 7 = 20. I have seen you claim that California is still in a drought in response to an article confirming that California was not in a drought.

Some people have been following this global warming/climate change/climate emergency/global heating “issue” since the 60’s/70’s long before blogs ever existed. These people actually had to read books and science journals to understand the theory and history. Most of these have come to the conclusion there is nothing scary, or abnormal, happening with the climate.

Griff,
Coming… winter 2019-2020 will **not** be kind to North America or Europe.
It will be a factor in the Democrat’s climate claims in the Spring 2020 primary season into the summer.
The saving grace will be US energy dominance keeping natural gas and heating oil costs down.

The NH is likely facing an early frost in mid-late September, 6 weeks from now. NH winter will hit the plains and Midwest US with a vengeance in October.

Well, you’ve been pushing misinformation about skeptics all along.

The ‘ice-age’ thing – what’s been said is that we are in an inter-glacial period, which means we’re due for another one, assuming patterns repeat.

Of course, there was the ‘global cooling’ scare that contemporary progressives pushed before switching over to ‘global warming’.

But please – continue to demonstrate who you are.

The reason that these busted forecasts don’t burn Gore and others is based on people’s lack of directly accessing data to monitor them as well as not having much expertise in this field.

This is also why it was so easy to hijack climate science for the political agenda.

When the weatherman on tv forecasts sunny skies the next day and it rains……….it’s a busted forecast. We have direct access to the observation outside of our windows.

When exaggerated climate forecasts calling for X amount of warming along with A-Z in negative consequences over the next 100 years, who is tracking all of this?
Not your average person. We rely on the gatekeepers of information to report to us their interpretation and spinning of what is happening.

This often results in taking extreme conditions(based on expected variability of events similar to the past) and turning them into “worse then expected” headlines.

Joe tv watcher doesn’t access weather records to compare weather history with recent events(being described in unprecedented language). He assumes that the media must have already done that for him and would not be reporting their (sensationalized) interpretation unless it was true.
Another element to avoiding accountability for busted climate forecasts is the extraordinarily long times scales vs weather forecasts.

When it’s time to judge the prediction for sea levels rising 20 feet by the year 2100 or whatever is here, for instance, everybody that received it will be dead and that same forecast will be twisted and changed a dozen times along the way so that it serves the intended purpose.

I do not know how much time Gore has dedicated to pursuing relevant research following his 2009 assertion:
“Storms are going to grow stronger.” but to help him in his studies perhaps I could respectfully draw his attention to the latest 2 items from Notrickszone by Ken Richards and P Gosselin:
https://notrickszone.com/2019/08/15/natural-variability-domination-defying-models-scientists-find-less-extreme-precipitation-in-recent-decades/
and:

and the numerous recent studies contained in the 2 compilations.

The AGW conjecture seems quite plausible at first but looking at in more detail one realizes that the AGW conjecture is based on only partial science and cannot be defended. For example in Al Gore’s first movie he shows a chart of how CO2 has correlated with temperature over the past 600K years. His claim was that the chart shows that more CO2 causes warming. But looking at the data in more detail that temperature leads CO2 so that a warmer climate causes more CO2 to enter the atmosphere. The CO2 comes from the oceans. When the oceans warm up they cannot hold as much CO2 so they release it to the atmosphere. When the temperature of the oceans decreases they take up CO2. According to Al Gore’s chart, if CO2 were the climate temperature control knob it should really be much warmer than it actually is. The truth is that there is no evidence in the paleoclimate record that CO2 has any effect on climate.

Didn’t Professor Goracle (He did go to Divination school.) once predict that the Earth’s core would be millions of degrees? Or maybe he just claimed it was a present fact?

If he thinks it’s a present fact, then it would seems to a likely MAJOR contributor to “Global Warming”?
If it was a prediction, then maybe we should stop sequestering the magic molecule, CO2, by injecting it into the Earth?

Or maybe, as usual, he’s wrong on all counts.
That’s what happens when people swallow “The Greens Pill”. (It comes in two flavors, “Green’s” and Green’$.)

IIRC, he said the interior of the Earth was “several million degrees” hot.
He said it on Conan O’Brien.

Mark Urban is a BBC journalist who I respect – he is serious minded and well informed, debates rationally and not combatively. I suspect he’s a closet climate rationalist (I won’t say “skeptic”). Tonight he’s hosting BBC2’s Newsnight and was talking to an economist called Stieglitz (same name as the big Austrian Na3i-killer in the movie “Inglorious Basterds”) was talking about the threat of a global economic recession. Then he suddenly adds a comment about climate change (maybe in response to AB off-camera minder) and adds that “huge funds still need to be found to combat this “emergency”.

At this point Mark Urban has serious trouble stopping himself from laughing 😂 out loud – so much so that the camera pans away from his face. Spendttrilluons on an illusory non-problem and then worrying about recession is indeed the stuff of the blackest comedy imaginable. Mark has the intelligence and humour to get this.

Nasa has a chart you can look at, with an ominous pulsing red dot, that measures sea level rise. It’s still rising by 3.3 mm per year. You can clearly see there is no increase going on.
So in ten years it has risen 3.3 centimeters, and in 100 years should rise about 33 cm. If we give them a little leeway let’s say 40 cm. I think we can handle less than half a meter of sea level rise in a century, since we have already and barely noticed.

3. Create businesses that would otherwise not exist or be viable without tax payer subsidy .
4. Plant people in government to craft policies that funnel money to your businesses .
5 . Make sure the well to do get their piece of the cake in “renewable contracts .
6. Bully and buy the the media into blindly pumping your scam .
7. Sit back and watch the cash role .

Climate changes . Why would anyone expect anything otherwise ?
So the 99% of reasons climate change is A OK…because they are caused by natural variables .
No point in getting bent out of shape because sun spot activity is down is there ?
But that small variable which itself is mostly from natural sources is allegedly got to be stamped out because its from fossil fuels that humans use to create the highest standard of living in billions of years .
So who are the real deniers and clowns ?
