Did 350.org Link California Earthquakes to Climate Change?

350.org on Earthquakes in Southern California

[…]

Scientists have made fresh connections between fracking and earthquakes, but the greater necessity is for action from California’s administration to limit the climate impacts of future disasters.

350.org Executive Director May Boeve made the following statement:
“Our thoughts are with communities in Southern California who are facing these terrifying earthquakes, with the potential of more to come. California has for the last few years faced the catastrophic effects of climate change more than ever before in the form of severe wildfires. These earthquakes will cause even further devastation to communities already trying to recover from losses. We call on Governor Newsom, the State of California, and the federal government to act immediately to ensure that Californians are safe from further destruction. Furthermore, we call on California to set an example for the rest of the country by taking bold action necessary to limit climate destruction.”’

  1. I thought the wild fires were an issue to do with land management or a natural occurrence if the land was uninhabited.

As for earth quakes what can you say, do people listen to these loons?

    • Sadly, yes the fools listen to these people and it’s more difficult to find people not qualifying as fools.

      • That is because the fools have become educators in our public schools and universities Sheri.

Government funded educator is an occupation that has become synonymous with “indoctrinator” in our 21st century lexicon.

A Professor of Foolishness will soon become its very own major field of study with concentrations mostly in the social sciences which is what Climate Science has been turned into and People will be able to brag they have a Doctorate in Climate Foolishness or a Doctorate of Economic Foolishness etc from which they will be Government Certified to make fools out of our children.

    • Most of the recent fires were started from downed/sparking power lines. Without electricity, most would not have happened. Therefore, California is on an approach to remedy this.

    • They would be shocked to hear that paleoclimatology records that before and during most periods of Rapid Cooling, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions multiply

    • There can be no wild fires in this quake zone:

“California Earthquakes Leave Naval Station China Lake ‘Not Mission Capable’” By: Gidget Fuentes on July 9, 2019
      https://news.usni.org/2019/07/09/california-earthquakes-leave-naval-station-china-lake-not-mission-capable

Two major earthquakes that struck Southern California late last week opened fault lines on Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and prompted officials to evacuate residents. Since Saturday, the Navy testing installation has been declared “not mission capable until further notice.”

As of late Monday, the Navy’s key research-and-development site for major aviation and weapons systems testing and evaluation remained off-limits to anyone but mission-essential personnel, as crews worked to inspect facilities at the sprawling installation complex.

China Lake, which covers 1.2 million acres of the Mojave desert, felt the brunt of the significant tremors, from the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck at the morning of July 4 to the scores of aftershocks and then a magnitude 7.1 earthquake on Friday evening.

U.S. Geological Survey experts identified the epicenters of the two largest tremors and countless others as occurring within the Navy installation. Navy personnel and California National Guard air crews assisted geologists in surveying the impacts of the tremors, which cracked paved roads, opened gashes across the desert area and shifted railroad tracks.

The weapons station, as well as nearby towns of Ridgecrest and Trona, saw scattered damage from the quakes but no deaths or major destruction.

  2. ‘Fraid some people are just weird. Does she really believe any of this? Does she know what caused 1906?

    • Most of the damage was caused by fire and a lot of that was due to the fire department trying to put out fire with explosives.

      • Great video. Note how most if not all vehicles from one or two (real) horse power to climate destroying i/c vehicles had the driver on the proper (right) side. I wonder when a draftsman in a car factory got the plans reversed and left drive cars started in the US?

        • The reason for walking or riding on the left side of a path is that most people are right handed. It made it much easier to draw your sword and be immediately ready for combat without needing to turn.

For animal-drawn conveyances, it allowed the drover to hold the whip in his right hand.

The change, like many things, is all the fault of the French. Or, technically, an Italian – Napoleon was a lefty, and he had his columns march on the right hand side.

Interestingly, circular staircases spiral counterclockwise downwards for much the same reason. Gave the defender on the higher level a great advantage in a sword fight. (Napoleon didn’t manage to change that design tradition – probably because he was a field offensive guy, not much into defending castles.)

The reason why around the world there is driven right:

Everywhere in the world is driven to the right because the coachman naturally holds the cone in the right.

When he meets a run that does not slow down on the narrow road, he takes the whip in the free left to hit against the heads of the oncoming horses and that gig disappears on the left side over the boundary.

Unlike when 2 genteel English gentlemen meet on their fast little sports cars:

They would never use the whip.

A sportsman takes the tap in the left hand.

The right hand is needed to greet gleefully:

An English sportsman would never be so outrageous to present his headgear with his left hand!

And this is why there’s driven left in the whole commonwealth.

  3. It doesn’t actually say that climate change causes earthquakes: it just rather vaguely links the two in the context of devastation to communities, which is fair enough. A casual read could give the wrong impression though.

      • Scientists have made fresh connections between fracking and earthquakes

How much fracking is there is S. California? This is just a lead-in ganbit to mentioning latest “scientific” connections. Oh, and while we are talking about science, did I mention the “science” of climate change?? No, well I must tell you this ….

More like a bait and switch.

Take any news items, then pivot to the good ole CO2 “crisis”.

        • Bait and switch is usually less ham-handed. More like an OCD person trying to smoothly segue from the topic at hand to the topic of their obsession.

    • No, the impression is right. Climate can do all kinds of everything. That is totally normal message.

    • Susan,
      Full statement:

”As usually happens in the case of such high magnitude earthquakes, the second of these has produced more than 1,400 smaller quakes and destroyed homes as a result of electrical fires. Scientists have made fresh connections between fracking and earthquakes, but the greater necessity is for action from California’s administration to limit the climate impacts of future disasters. ”

      First sentnece: high magnitude earthquakes
Second sentence: connection between earthquakes and fracking.
After comma of second sentence: necessity to limit “climate impacts” of “future” disasters.

You don’t string thoughts together like that in a press release unless you have an agenda to link them in their fellow stupid followers’ minds. So Clearly an attempt to link earthquakes and their destruction to “future” climate change related disasters. It ‘s Completely moronic. And the tell is the use of the word “future.”

What does the word “future” provide? Nothing to the sane, but to the insane Climate Alarmists, everything bad is always in the “future.” It is a rabbit hole where nothing but insanity and irrational fears dwell… for the woke.

      • I omitted that bit of idiocy in the quoted passage because I wanted to focus on May Boeve’s idiocy of linking the earthquakes to climate change… rather than the blatant lies about frac’ing.

This is actually a triple non sequitur

”As usually happens in the case of such high magnitude earthquakes, the second of these has produced more than 1,400 smaller quakes and destroyed homes as a result of electrical fires. Scientists have made fresh connections between fracking and earthquakes, but the greater necessity is for action from California’s administration to limit the climate impacts of future disasters. ”

“[T]he greater necessity is for action from California’s administration to limit the climate impacts of future disasters.”

        Does not follow from…

“Scientists have made fresh connections between fracking and earthquakes…” (A blatant lie.)

        Does not follow from…

”As usually happens in the case of such high magnitude earthquakes, the second of these has produced more than 1,400 smaller quakes and destroyed homes as a result of electrical fires.”

        • I think it is worth mentioning that the author also claims the gift of prophecy.

      • What does the word “future” provide? Nothing to the sane, but to the insane Climate Alarmists, everything bad is always in the “future.” It is a rabbit hole where nothing but insanity and irrational fears dwell… for the woke.

Now that’s not a nice way to talk about Mae Boeve.
Auntie Mae can’t help her far left leaning upbringing

    • I was thinking the same thing – until I got to the last sentence. “…we call on California to set an example for the rest of the country by taking bold action necessary to limit climate destruction.” It clearly and unambiguously links the earthquake to climate destruction.

      • Linking through a series of non sequitur fallacies is still linking… A failed segue is still a segue… 😉

        • Similar things:
Rational analysis of the irrational mind.
Sanity trying to understand the thoughts of the insane.
A conservative trying to understand a modern progressive.

And many of today’s anthropologists and sociologists wonder why we’re so divided as a society.
Seemingly > 90% of them are progressives, so its no wonder today’s ideological split exists and they don’t understand it.

    • Causality is not all that important. Ancient peoples were reported to have thrown virgins into volcanoes to stop eruptions and other unwelcome events. Did it work? Who cares? The religion of the day declared the action’s necessity. No proof given or asked. And somebody paid an ultimate price! Win-win!
      (Except for the virgins.)

        • A good reason not to be a virgin, for sure.

I just can’t understand the mentality that. Witch burning is similar. I’m just amazed that family and friends stood back and did nothing.

          • With only a few exceptions (mostly during the Albigensian “Crusade”), the witches being burned had few friends – and any family had no power, with any protest simply making them candidates for the barbecue.

The three main victim groups were:
            1) The mentally challenged – either sub-normal intelligence, or insane.

            2) The somewhat better off, but not particularly sociable neighbor – such as the farmer who didn’t have most of his livestock wiped out by disease, because he quickly culled any that came down sick, and isolated the animals exposed to that one.

            3) The old woman herbalist who provided a remedy for some condition – and the patient completely ignored the instructions for use, and subsequently died horribly (that one is still a popular reason – note the instant lawsuit whenever one person has a bad reaction to a pharmaceutical that is perfectly safe for 99.999% of patients).

  4. I read in some “media” release that “fracking” was responsible for those quakes. I wish I could find it again. I know, crazy aye?

    • Here’s how the media dysfunction…

A paper is published demonstrating a correlation between wastewater injection wells and induced seismicity.

Head line: Scientists have made fresh connections between fracking and earthquakes!

The 99.9% of the general public, including the media blockheads, who write the headlines, who have absolutely no knowledge of the subject matter, can’t possibly see how dishonest and idiotic it is to link frac’ing to earthquakes.

  5. I wondered just how long it would take for those wind turbines to start creating earthquakes. 🙂

    • Totally. I mean with those blades (sometimes) spinning and pulling on the crust of the Earth, it’s only a matter of time before Guam tips over.

    • But, but, all the solar panels covering the desert are reflecting heat back up into space and are actually keeping the earth’s crust cool … which reduces the “tension” in the crust … and eases earthquakes. CA can be saved … if we pave-over the deserts with solar panels.

There! Now I’m a science journalist!

  6. FWIW, although hydraulic fracturing is allowed in California (Thanks, surprisingly perhaps, to Jerry Brown) it isn’t actually used much. Reason1: It currently doesn’t work well in the complex geology of most of the area (lots of small fault-delimited blocks — many steeply pitched). Reason2: you’d be sued for every earthquake — which are frequent in the region and sometimes are severe enough to do real damage.

    • And there’s no evidence linking frac’ing to earthquakes… wastewater injection wells aren’t frac’ed… intentionally.

      • Lack of evidence is not enough to prevent one from being sued. Heck it isn’t even enough to prevent one from losing.

      • It was around 6 months after the Great Tohoku Quake when I first took note of a quake in Oklahoma. That was followed by more occasional quakes in the area, and then around a month later a string of small quakes rattled Oklahoma for almost a week. Small quakes in Oklahoma were then on and off for the next several months. That was followed by a steady rate of Oklahoma quakes striking every week, and that was the status quo for the next 4 years, approximately. Imo, there is something else causing the quakes. Recently, there has been an uptick in Oklahoma quakes after a quiet period over the last 3 years.

    • It’s not surprising. Chevron, etc., know they have to “pay to play”, and in California it is easy to know whom to pay.

  7. There is no cure for stupid, but normally it is diluted out by genetic processes. However, in the case of California, it appears that stupid is nurtured and encouraged, even valued as the basis of an informed electorate. What will they do next? They have no idea but it will fly in the face of reason.

  8. “California has for the last few years faced the catastrophic effects of climate change more than ever before in the form of severe wildfires. These earthquakes will cause even further devastation to communities already trying to recover from losses.”

Sorry, but that does NOT claim the earthquakes are linked to climate change. You may disagree with the whole ‘climate change’ boondoggle, but don’t make up things people didn’t say.

    • Well, if it´s not warming, it must do something. There must be a very good reason to keep the panic running. So why not earthquakes? Those who believe must have something horrible to make their faith believeable. It´s just another brick in the wall…

    • Wildfires are not caused by climate they’re caused by the banning of controlled burning and idiots that start them intentionally or accidentally.

    • true, they imply the fire areas are now quake affected though
and I dont live in usa but it sure doesnt sound like thats right?
      input from Anthony?

    • If 350.org wasn’t linking the earthquakes to climate change, why did their statement on the earthquakes refer to “climate” as often as “earthquakes”? Why did their statement on the earthquakes call for “taking bold action necessary to limit climate destruction”?

350.org Executive Director May Boeve made the following statement:
“Our thoughts are with communities in Southern California who are facing these terrifying earthquakes, with the potential of more to come. “Linking” doesn’t mean that one caused the other. These total fracking retards are clearly using the earthquakes as a rationale for government action on climate change… Action like banning frac’ing.

    • I guess you missed this bit:
“Scientists have made fresh connections between fracking and earthquakes”
      Reading is fundamental.

    • Why would 350.org write an article on the CA earthquakes? Why would such an article mention climate change several times?

They don’t have to overtly claim a link…just suggest it. They can always defend themselves by arguing they didn’t make the claim (or have others do it for them).

It seems apparent that they want people to associate the earthquakea with climate change and/or fracking.

      • They must obey rules from their guidebook.

From wiki A. Hitlers very effective way to point the most important :

“”Propaganda must not investigate the truth objectively and, in so far as it is favourable to the other side, present it according to the theoretical rules of justice; yet it must present only that aspect of the truth which is favourable to its own side.

The receptive powers of the masses are very restricted, and their understanding is feeble. On the other hand, they quickly forget. Such being the case, all effective propaganda must be confined to a few bare essentials and those must be expressed as far as possible in stereotyped formulas.

These slogans should be persistently repeated until the very last individual has come to grasp the idea that has been put forward. Every change that is made in the subject of a propagandist message must always emphasize the same conclusion. The leading slogan must of course be illustrated in many ways and from several angles, but in the end one must always return to the assertion of the same formula.””

That´s why several times. We all have seen how powerful this climate machine is.

        • It seems that critical thinking is a gift for the few that have it. So getting those who do not possess it, to understand the failure of logic of the argument is difficult because they can’t make that connection. The popularity of the message and the authority of the messenger is sufficient for them to believe it, though they can not understand it.

No wonder we keep beating our head against a wall. At least they’ve dropped Catastrophic and Anthropomorphic from their mantra. But the remaining Global Warming (now Climate Change) is proving a harder beast to put down.

  9. David

    Encourage them!

You should write back to 35.org and compliment them on the sterling work they are doing drawing everyone’s attention to the link between climate change and earthquakes.

Enough rope to hang themselves and all that.

I mean, the public are gullible, but they aint entirely stupid.

  10. Uh… climate destruction? What???

Thanks for the reminder that the looney-tunes (no connection to the aquatic real loons) are everywhere.

    If you snooze, you lose.

  11. “We call on Governor Newsom, the State of California, and the federal government to act immediately to ensure that Californians are safe from further destruction. Furthermore, we call on California to set an example for the rest of the country by taking bold action necessary to limit climate destruction.”

Chicken Little has nothing on these spreaders of nonsense fright stories. It’s Rubber room time for 350.org Executive Director May Boeve and her deluded cohorts.

  12. Notice how they did not explicitly state that there was a link.
They know their target audience of gullible and scientifically illiterate dupes are already ascared of so much as a hot day, AKA “climate change” causing someone to be in danger of breaking out into a fatal sweat.
The Greta worshippers marching in the streets over a nonexistent climate crisis are the intellectual equivalent of a 98 lb. weakling in a NWA wrasslin’ match with Andre The Giant.
Those idjuts could not tell shite from shinola if they were using their tongues to polish shoes.

    • The 350.org statement managed to disparage “fracking”, which was what they wanted to accomplish.

When they say they want the governments of California and the United States to fix this, “fracking” is what they want fixed, because suggesting fixing earthquakes is a little too crazy even for 350.org.

  13. I don’t see he has linked Earthquakes, it is just poorly written.
He has definitely linked the fires to climate change which as has been discussed is blatantly wrong.

    • Was he did was phrase it in a way that implies that any fool knows they one causes the other.
Do not overestimate the intelligence of the people in the target audience.

    • There are many many people who takes poorly written stories as absolute truth.
Thinking is SO oldfashion now. People can´t read anymore. Everything goes. Homo idioticus has seen the light.

    • 350.org Executive Director May Boeve made the following statement:

  14. May Boeve´s faith is high. She call Governor Newsom -> Earthquakes and wildfires will be history. Nice.

  15. “faced the catastrophic effects of climate change more than ever before in the form of severe wildfires. These earthquakes will cause even further devastation”

It’s hard to tell if this is going to be an entrant for the non sequitur of the year award, or if it’s just a case of trying to lie too hard to the public.

  16. The BBC News at first reported the 2004 Asian Tsunami as caused by Climate Change. I wrote and asked for explanation on how their robust News editing process allowed this to happen, but I got no reply.

  17. Maybe there was no direct link to climate and earthquakes but they were mentioned in the same sentence which will be enough to mislead the gullible masses. I have overheard conversations where people have confidently stated that earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis were caused by CO2. The Notre Dame fire was caused by CO2.
    https://www.accredited-times.com/2019/04/16/notre-dame-fire-climate-change-likely-culprit/

Soon they will claim that sunspots are caused by CO2. Or lack of sunspots. Or toxic squirrel turds.

  18. Trying to understand the insane in their world of insanity never works. Especially when it is a pathological level of insanity. That is where today’s environmental progressives are. An Alice in Wonderland scenario. Follow the rabbit down that hole to insanity at your own peril.
Because when you get there you find 350.org, NRDC, most of today’s “woke” Democrats and all their “justice-isms” of insanity. And just like Alice’s Wonderland, everyone there in Climate -Land thinks they are just fine. But they all as mad as the Hatter, and think they are smart, yet the dumbest M-Fs that ever lived.
Even the dumbest of caveman was far smarter than them, because a caveman knew how to survive off the land, build a fire from sticks, etc. These “woke” climate-land inhabitants, like May Boeve, couldn’t survive one day without all the things fossil fules provide, yet they want to take it all away, and they *think* they are being smart. So “Dumbest MF that ever lived” doesn’t even begin to adequately describe those Climate-Land dwellers. Pathological insanity is 350.org. Follow them down the rabbit hole at your peril.

    • I have no interest in “understanding” those afflicted with woke-ilepsy… I just like ridiculing them.

  19. “We call on Governor Newsom, the State of California, and the federal government to act immediately to ensure that Californians are safe from further destruction.”

Come on, sweetie, he’s raising taxes as fast as he can, thus insuring people will flee the state and be safe.

  20. Here is an option for the over anxious in California. If you can’t stand the shakes, get out of the State.
As for linking earthquakes to climate change, well they have to identify something nasty is due to climate change because the sea is refusing to rise and the biosphere is enjoying the additional CO2 so much the planet is greener and more productive that it has been in recorded history.
I just wish it would warm up a bit.

  21. Further evidence these 350.org folks are some of the dumbest M-Fers ever to walk this planet:

We call on Governor Newsom, the State of California, and the federal government to act immediately to ensure that Californians are safe from further destruction.

Maybe Newsom and that Sacramento herd of losers can simply pass a bill making earthquakes and climate change illegal, with heavy fines and penalties. I mean why not? They’ve already royally F’d the middle class up the wazoo with higher gas pump prices and electric bills and a useless slow speed choo-choo their grand kids will be paying for.

  22. Let me guess: the “350” in the domain name “350.org.” stands for the number of lies they tell?
    Works for me!

  23. You misunderstand, DM. They are followers of Gaia, so earthquakes are just part of annoying Mother Nature. If we just wore organic hemp hair shirts, and avoided sin in the form of producing the satanic gasses, Gaia would be appeased, and, voila, no more earthquakes.

  24. The climate is always changing.
    California is always shaking.
    Of course there’s a link!
Only an idiot … er … Any idiot can see that!!

  25. I happen to have exclusive video showing California setting an example for the rest of the nation –

  26. Bernie and AOC just said they are calling for the United States to declare a “Climate Emergency”.

    This ought to be fun.

Although I saw the head of the EPA, Andrew Wheeler, the other day in an interview on Fox say he thought “climate change” was real and actions need to be taken to fix things.

Trump needs to call in all his people and tell them that when some reporter asks them if “CAGW/climate change” is real they should say that “the science is not settled as of now”.

Saying “CAGW/climate change” is real and that something needs to be done about it completely undermines the Trump administration stance on CO2, which says nothing extraordinary needs to be done to combat CO2.

It’s going to be hard for the Trump administration to argue against the Green New Deal if Trump officials agree with the basic premise of Bernie and AOC.

We need that Red Team/Blue Team or something similar right now. It looks like lots of people need to be educated about CAGW issues both outside and inside the Trump administration.

    • PG&E could do the world a big favor by blaming climate change for all their problems. At this juncture such a claim could single handedly topple the whole superstructure of the climate church and its little court jesters at 350.org

  27. Fight question mark climate science headlines with question mark come backs. It might work.

That is a bit like a control line to fight a forest fire (of bad ideas).

  28. We live in an era of current events climate alarmism where everything including 5-mile deep earthquakes are used in the agenda messaging.

  29. It’s not the “AGW Climate Change” that is causing the earthquakes. Studies by those scientists that haven’t been corrupted by the radical environmentalist nonsense have observed that the most violent of earthquakes have a strong correlation with the lack of sunspots, especially the Dalton Minimum and Maunder Minimum-type eras of sun “hibernation”. Considering that the AGW crowd can’t even come close to correctly predicting future temperature and climate changes, I wouldn’t put any credence on their claims that AGW is causing earthquakes. It’s just more of their non-falsifiable claims that AGW causes everything out of the norm.

    • “””It’s just more of their non-falsifiable claims that AGW causes everything out of the norm.”””

And people believe them. That´s enough to keep the train running.

  30. When are people going to wake up and realize its not climate change , its people changing the topography , let the trees grow , quit building in swamps .

  31. There has been a roughly 14% increase in green vegetation over the lasts 30 years. This is mostly due to the increased CO2.

I understand 350.org wants to reduce the CO2 in the atmosphere to the level it was more then 50 years ago, so a longer time (350 ppm as the name says?).
Do these §$%&/… realise they want to reduce the green vegetation by more then 15%? Do they realise they want to reduce global food production by about the same amount?

For 7 billion people 15% is about 1 billion
So they want to make disappear the food for 1 billion people?
Are these people so §%&/… in the head that they do not realise what they want? Or do they really want this?

Who and why is listening to these people? Why are they even relevant?

    • To them 1 billion is good start. They want one communist government to rule whole planet. And when they get it, it´s going to be greatest bloodbath ever seen.

350.org is just one knot in enormous net. Everybody is listening them, and they all believe them, exept very few, who can see the real reason.

  32. Here in the UK we have a website called gridwatch.co.uk. It gives real time data in a very clear format about electricity generation. I have been saying for a while the data is not supporting the Green energy story line and I have warned, the site will come under increasing pressure to be less clear, less informative and more sympathetic to the lies the Greens wish to project.
Well what do you know. A new format has just been introduced that is unclear rough with grainy graphs and very confusing images, of what was previously very clear trend lines. You can still get the “old” format but you have to make a point of clicking to find it, the default is fudge central. I wonder how long the “old” format will be maintained and available for consumption.
I wonder why they have decided to be less informative and less clear?

  33. is it possible for a warming planet to cause an increase in earthquakes. the answer is probably yes. as the earth heats up it will expand due to thermal expansion. this causes cracks in the crust which weakens the crust and allows water to enter acting a lubricant. so there is actually a mechanism for this to happen….

sometimes 350.org just might be right….

    • Not even wrong.

The melting of the Laurentide and Cordilleran ice sheets at the end of the Pleistocene, caused and continues to cause earthquakes due to isostatic crustal rebound. The crust does not expand or contract due to minor changes in air temperature.

      • Its not even reasonable to assume the earths crust remain at a constant temperature. If everything else is warming….air oceans…then the crust should warm too. It will expand due to thermal expansion. I ran a quick calc and the earth should expand by about 2mm for a temperature change of 0.01C which come close to the average warming rate…matches the GIA they apply….and is about the difference between tide gauges and satellites

        • The atmosphere doesn’t affect the temperature of the crust. It barely even affects the temperature of the soil below a few meters. This is why underground homes require very little heating during winter or cooling during summer.

      • I agree surface heat would not affect that deep. There exists a thermal gradient from the center of the earth to the surface. If the surface can not remove heat as efficiently then the gradient will change. The 2mm is based on the gradient….trouble is we don’t have any information on this…but logically this should happen.

  34. Based on past events…

Grist has made some dumb links and “we did not intend to imply what we did” claims in the past.

Britain’s top scientist/moron made a dumb claim as well https://www.theguardian.com/education/2004/dec/31/highereducation.uk1
Tsunami highlights climate change risk, says scientist

  35. It may well be true that fracking causes “”Earthquakes””, but they are very tiny ones. Any variation of the earth will affect another bit.

For example lets build a DAM. as the valley slowly fills up with water, the pressure on the Dam is transferred to the rock on each side. This is normal, but it will causes movement of the Rock on each side, i.e. earth movements, we call them Earthquakes if they are big enough.

  36. We had Willem deLange from the University of Waikato speak to an open meeting at our Rotary Club last Tuesday.
Willem is a earth scientist specializing on sea level rise .
He was quite emphatic that sea level rise was not a problem but as some ports are sinking and the Port of Auckland is rising faster than any sea level rise .
This could mean that the port will become to shallow for large ships and as there is a hard rock ridge in the harbour that is almost impossible to dredge .
Willem stated that in his opinion that the global warming scare has got out of hand and has become a political tool to tax and control .( as most of us here are well aware)
He said that we might need to do something in 500 tears if the sea level keeps rising at 1.5 mm per year .That is the correct measurement and there is no sign of any acceleration.
As you may know New Zealand is referred to in Australia as the shaky isle’s because of our regular earth quakes because we sit astride a major fault line .
You have probably read about the two Christchurch earth quakes and the Kaikoura quake that lifted the coastline by meters and destroyed the road and rail corridor which has since been rebuilt .
Willem was of the opinion that we should be focusing on earth quakes instead of CO2 and he showed a seismic graph that New Zealand experience’s a massive numbers of quakes each year but only the larger ones are felt .
As far as I am aware there is no fracking in the South Island and Wellington where the most violent quakes have been happening since colonial days.
Willem was a breath of fresh air and it was a pity that more of the younger set were not there to hear him .
I had the privilege of proposing a vote of thanks and I mentioned Peter Ridd’s name and that we would not like to see Willem receive the same treatment that happened Peter Ridd for telling the truth .
Willem then told the audience the story of Peter Ridd and said that he was one of his colleagues.

  38. They have the cart before the horse again. Earthquakes are known to release the gases they claim cause warming. The gases didn’t cause the earthquake. Do they ever stop to think what they’re saying?

    • Of course they stop to think about what they’re saying.
They stop to consider how phrase it so that YOU don’t stop to think about what they’re saying.
