Scientists have made fresh connections between fracking and earthquakes, but the greater necessity is for action from California’s administration to limit the climate impacts of future disasters.

Navy personnel and California National Guard air crews assisted geologists in surveying the impacts of the tremors, which cracked paved roads, opened gashes across the desert area and shifted railroad tracks.
The weapons station, as well as nearby towns of Ridgecrest and Trona, saw scattered damage from the quakes but no deaths or major destruction.

Everywhere in the world is driven to the right because the coachman naturally holds the cone in the right.

FWIW, although hydraulic fracturing is allowed in California (Thanks, surprisingly perhaps, to Jerry Brown) it isn’t actually used much. Reason1: It currently doesn’t work well in the complex geology of most of the area (lots of small fault-delimited blocks — many steeply pitched). Reason2: you’d be sued for every earthquake — which are frequent in the region and sometimes are severe enough to do real damage.
And there’s no evidence linking frac’ing to earthquakes… wastewater injection wells aren’t frac’ed… intentionally.
Lack of evidence is not enough to prevent one from being sued. Heck it isn’t even enough to prevent one from losing.
It was around 6 months after the Great Tohoku Quake when I first took note of a quake in Oklahoma. That was followed by more occasional quakes in the area, and then around a month later a string of small quakes rattled Oklahoma for almost a week. Small quakes in Oklahoma were then on and off for the next several months. That was followed by a steady rate of Oklahoma quakes striking every week, and that was the status quo for the next 4 years, approximately. Imo, there is something else causing the quakes. Recently, there has been an uptick in Oklahoma quakes after a quiet period over the last 3 years.
Many of which are related to wastewater injection wells.
It’s not surprising. Chevron, etc., know they have to “pay to play”, and in California it is easy to know whom to pay.
There is no cure for stupid, but normally it is diluted out by genetic processes. There really was a scientific paper that said the sky was falling due to climate change. Recently a Canadian geologist has linked volcanoes to climate change.

Here in the UK we have a website called gridwatch.co.uk. It gives real time data in a very clear format about electricity generation. I have been saying for a while the data is not supporting the Green energy story line and I have warned, the site will come under increasing pressure to be less clear, less informative and more sympathetic to the lies the Greens wish to project.

is it possible for a warming planet to cause an increase in earthquakes. the answer is probably yes. as the earth heats up it will expand due to thermal expansion. this causes cracks in the crust which weakens the crust and allows water to enter acting a lubricant. so there is actually a mechanism for this to happen….

Its not even reasonable to assume the earths crust remain at a constant temperature. If everything else is warming….air oceans…then the crust should warm too. It will expand due to thermal expansion. I ran a quick calc and the earth should expand by about 2mm for a temperature change of 0.01C which come close to the average warming rate…matches the GIA they apply….and is about the difference between tide gauges and satellites
The atmosphere doesn’t affect the temperature of the crust. It barely even affects the temperature of the soil below a few meters. This is why underground homes require very little heating during winter or cooling during summer.
Atmospheric heat does affect surface temperatures. up to a maximum of about 5m.

This surface heating and cooling happens every summer and winter. And it is quite impossible to influence temperatures below 5m.
I agree surface heat would not affect that deep. There exists a thermal gradient from the center of the earth to the surface. If the surface can not remove heat as efficiently then the gradient will change. The 2mm is based on the gradient….trouble is we don’t have any information on this…but logically this should happen.

It may well be true that fracking causes “”Earthquakes””, but they are very tiny ones. Any variation of the earth will affect another bit.
For example lets build a DAM. as the valley slowly fills up with water, the pressure on the Dam is transferred to the rock on each side. This is normal, but it will causes movement of the Rock on each side, i.e. earth movements, we call them Earthquakes if they are big enough.

We had Willem deLange from the University of Waikato speak to an open meeting at our Rotary Club last Tuesday.
Willem is a earth scientist specializing on sea level rise .
He was quite emphatic that sea level rise was not a problem but as some ports are sinking and the Port of Auckland is rising faster than any sea level rise .
This could mean that the port will become to shallow for large ships and as there is a hard rock ridge in the harbour that is almost impossible to dredge .
Willem stated that in his opinion that the global warming scare has got out of hand and has become a political tool to tax and control .( as most of us here are well aware)
He said that we might need to do something in 500 tears if the sea level keeps rising at 1.5 mm per year .That is the correct measurement and there is no sign of any acceleration.
As you may know New Zealand is referred to in Australia as the shaky isle’s because of our regular earth quakes because we sit astride a major fault line .
You have probably read about the two Christchurch earth quakes and the Kaikoura quake that lifted the coastline by meters and destroyed the road and rail corridor which has since been rebuilt .
Willem was of the opinion that we should be focusing on earth quakes instead of CO2 and he showed a seismic graph that New Zealand experience’s a massive numbers of quakes each year but only the larger ones are felt .
As far as I am aware there is no fracking in the South Island and Wellington where the most violent quakes have been happening since colonial days.
Willem was a breath of fresh air and it was a pity that more of the younger set were not there to hear him .
I had the privilege of proposing a vote of thanks and I mentioned Peter Ridd’s name and that we would not like to see Willem receive the same treatment that happened Peter Ridd for telling the truth .
Willem then told the audience the story of Peter Ridd and said that he was one of his colleagues.

They have the cart before the horse again. Earthquakes are known to release the gases they claim cause warming. The gases didn’t cause the earthquake. Do they ever stop to think what they’re saying?
