Al Gore Tells Harvard Students ‘Assault On Science’ Threatens Humanity’s Survival

Former Vice President Al Gore said President Donald Trump’s “assault on science” threatens “the capacity of the human species to endure” on Earth.

Gore issued his warning in a speech to Harvard University students and faculty Wednesday, stressing “reason” and “rational debate,” indeed democracy itself, were under threat from the “ideology of authoritarianism.”

Science “is now being slandered as a conspiracy based on a hoax,” Gore said, likely referring to a 2012 Trump tweet where he called man-made global warming a “Chinese hoax.”

WATCH:

“The subordination of the best scientific evidence to the cynical greed of those buttressing the power of a would-be-autocrat is yet another strategy for controlling policy by distorting and suppressing the best available information,” Gore said.

“So the ideology of authoritarianism is not only a threat to democracy in America, now because of the attacks on climate science, it has become a threat to the survival of human civilization as we know it and even potentially to the capacity of the human species to endure,” Gore continued.

“In order to solve the climate crisis, we must solve the democracy crisis,” Gore said.

While Gore, a Harvard alumni and producer of two films of questionable accuracy on global warming, did not refer to Trump by name, the former vice president’s message was clear.

“The system of checks and balances that has protected the integrity of our American system for more than two centuries has already been dangerously eroded,” Gore said.

Gore, however, also went after social media, which he claimed is driven by “surveillance capitalism.” Gore said social media “enhances cynicism and magnifies divisions” that erode society. (RELATED: Supreme Court Asked To Hear Case Involving Leaked ‘Climategate’ Emails)

Gore went on to blame rampant flooding and tornado sightings in the Midwest on man-made global warming, echoing recent attempts by Democratic presidential candidates to do the same in Iowa.

“Speaking of wind, the winds are increasingly destructive in our world,” Gore said. “Yesterday was the thirteenth day in a row when multiple tornadoes touched down in the United States — 500 this month.”

“Hurricanes have become much stronger. Today, the Arkansas River is four feet higher than the all-time record flood stage. The Mississippi River is setting records as the longest flood ever. Thirty-nine million Americans today are at risk from flooding,” Gore said.

Gore also implored Harvard to divest its endowment from fossil fuel holdings, comparing it to the 1980s campaigns to pull investments in South Africa during apartheid. Gore has often compared climate activism to the anti-apartheid, civil rights and abolition movements.

“It was immoral to continue investing in apartheid,” Gore said before going on to accuse fossil fuel companies of using the tobacco industry’s strategy to keep the American public ignorant of climate science — a narrative pushed by some liberal media outlets.

“The American people have been the targets of a massive, well-organized and lavishly-funded campaign of disinformation, designed to spread doubt and confusion and prevent the formation of a political consensus necessary to adopt new policies to save the future of human civilization,” Gore said.

I guess we are talking about the billions per year going into oxymoronic “consensus” science. Or maybe billionaires funding films full of lies and videos by incompetent TV clowns posing as scientists which have to be edited post-production because they don’t work.

Yep, lavishly-funded campaign of disinformation, to be sure.

Gore took his single science course at Harvard when he was an undergrad. His professor was Russ Revelle who was the first scientist back in the 1950s to suggest that CO2 might have somthing to do with global warming. Gore became obsessed with the idea and ran with it. That’s how this whole thing got started. In later years, professor Ravelle repudiated his thery that CO2 might cause global warming, and he was appalled that global politicians were actually adopting policy based on his original discredited theory.

Democrats shot themselves in the foot on that one. As they usually do. Despite their claims to the contrary, history tells us Democrats never can muster the moral courage to do the right thing when politics of their ideology gets in the way.

Had they not defended the Sexual Predator in the White House‘s behavior toward a young female intern there, and had they pressured him to resign instead of rallying around him when it was discovered he lied straight into the cameras to all Americans in denial of that sexual harassment, then Vice President Al Gore would have been President Al Gore for the final 2 years or so –1998-2000.

An incumbent President Al Gore likely would have easily defeated the GOP challenger then in November 2000, and the history of the first decade of 21st Century would have played out very differently.

But when it comes down to it, Democrats never can do the the right thing. And Al Gore lost in 2000 because of that. Just as they could never bring themselves to tell Crooked Hillary to bow out in 2016 and let someone else try to defeat the GOP challenger.

In the Liberal mind, politics of their ideology and pursuit of power overrides integrity. And it costs them election after election. But that is their nature.

Wow…the headline should have read “Assault on Truth Threatens Humanity’s Survival”. This is real rich from a guy who supposedly represents the CAGW industry.

Al..if you say reason and debate are under threat in our liberal democracy, then let’s have an honest and truthful debate about the science and facts of climate change and what is really going on. I will take all this and you a little more seriously when real discussion and rational debate are indeed upheld. Until then, it is you and your ilk who are the real authoritarians with the way you are lying about the science of climate understanding.

Considering he made a substantial piece of his $200 million net worth from selling his failing media network to Al Jezeera, which is owned by Qatari government and thus is oil money, the hypocrisy is even richer. Most reports gave it as Al Gore netted $100 Million for his 20% share from that sale.

As I vaguely recall, and I might be wrong on this, I seem to remember watching an interview with him where he was asked about his tobacco farming future.

He stated that he would be giving it up as his sister tragically dies from lung cancer; but not until he found another income.

Climate change seemed to happen along quite conveniently, something few of us would imagine would provide anyone an income, I mean it’s a global disaster so who can make money from that?

Not that any of us would have even thought about carbon credits. And again, forgive me if I’m wrong, but Al Gore seems to have done rather well from carbon credit trading, or something similar.

Funny how things work out.

Earthling: there were a number of debates in the early years, all of them won handily by sceptics. The warming proponents, to the last individual, now obey a centralized consensus ordinance to never debate a sceptic. This was the beginning of the warmist canard “the science is settled” therefore debate is a waste of time.

Yep. That’s right. For thirty years now we’ve been hearing how a tiny increase of a natural and harmless trace gas is going to kill us all. The theory is too simplistic and the supporting evidence is bogus. But the global warming campaign is well funded and relentless. In reality the world is probably getting colder. Not warmer. But the temperature data is such poor quality that I don’t think anyone knows for certain what is actually happening on a global scale.

I have a word of advice for Al Gore. The next time you want to start a crusade why not pick a hazard a bit more realistic than global warming – like say an invasion of leprechauns? Really scare the heck out of the kids.

ECS that “seems about right” (to the modelers) is produced in the UN IPCC climate models. It isn’t really a CO2 problem for the UN IPCC climate modelers; its the aerosols modelers put in to (badly) simulate past average temperatures to (semi) justify their “seems about right” ECSs.

We must demand that UN IPCC CMIP6 climate modelers list their year-by-year estimates of past aerosols.

‘…Former Vice President Al Gore said President Donald Trump’s “assault on science” threatens “the capacity of the human species to endure” on Earth…’

Translation: The climate scare narrative needs to be shielded from scientific inquiry so that it’s faultiness does not become more widely known.

Gore: “The American people have been the targets of a massive, well-organized and lavishly-funded campaign of disinformation, designed to spread doubt and confusion and prevent the formation of a political consensus necessary to adopt new policies to save the future of human civilization,”…..

Translation: The scientific evidence refuting the climate scare narrative is not to be believed because Gore says so. It doesn’t matter how faulty the global warming scare narrative is, you are to accept it on blind faith because the cult’s doctrine is infallible…..and Gore says so. Gore is “saving the planet,” so he could not possibly be wrong….especially when he is. Besides, it’s political now anyway, not scientific.

That’s a mouth full of flowery political speak there. I think I could have said it less incomprehensibly. But what should I expect of a blowhard? — not very nice, I know, but I really have nothing good to say about him.

Indeed,.. Mr. Chappell. You are correct. His entire speech is riddled with projections which provide seemingly countless insights and clues into his corrupt nature as well as the corrupt nature of the CAGW political scheme.

Once I caught on to some of the nuances as to how projections work in the one doing the projection and how it confounds those being projected on or listening, I began to learn to see through the speeches such as Gore’s, Hillary’s, Schiff’s, Nadler’s etc. etc. Then I tried to imagine what these graduates will think later once they discover the extent of the corruption that these people are desperately trying to hide.

The coming spectacle has the potential of being unprecedented.

Why does Gore not ask scientists from various disciplines about how scientific research really works?
Why does he not find out about the whole publication and peer review process?
How can he make credible comments without doing this?
Will he do this to assess the credibility of the claims of “climate scientists?”
Will he be prepared to consider the extent of uncertainty and also of fraud among scientists – just like we find in all other professions?

Gore’s first film held (at least) nine key scientific errors a British High Court judge ruled, and showing the film without correction notes would lead to teachers facing criminal charges of indoctrination.

However, there’s no way the court would deliver the same verdict today, and children are being more blatantly indoctrinated every day.

People are not equal. Every attempt at social equality has led to disaster.

Equality under the law does not allow for socialism; people gain or lose primarily based on individual ability, drive, etc.

Under any economic system, it pays to pick your parents well. Under capitalism, it is less important.

The Democrats want to portray Trump as some authoritarian dictator, but Trump is about as far from that as he could get.

Trump is the most transparent president in U.S. history along with being the most vetted president, who appears to be “pure as the driven snow” considering the extent to which the Democrats have gone to dig up dirt on him.

President Trump has done nothing illegal in his run for the presidency or after he assumed Office. It’s not illegal to disagree with partisan Democrats. The House Democrats want to claim Trump is violating the U.S. Constitution when he doesn’t knuckle under to their demands but Trump has every right and duty to challenge the Democrat’s Witch Hunt and it is legal for him to do so. Not only does Trump need to protect himself from harrassment by the Democrat Congress, he also has to protect the presidency by insisting the Congress follow the Constitution.

Trump ignoring a judicial ruling would be a different matter, but Trump has not done so, and doesn’t intend to do so, as far as I can see. So Trump is not an authoritarian dictator operating outside the law, he is well within the bounds of the law in his actions.

Democrats always portray Republican presidents as dictators and warmongers and racists and homophobes and the personification of every other evil in the world. It’s standard operating procedure for the Left. Al is just putting in his two cents worth. Which is about how much his opinion is worth.

Yeah, thank God Al was not elected president. That’s two socialist/authoritarian bullets the U.S. has dodged since the turn of the century.

Considering that Gore got C- and D in the few science courses he took in his brief college career (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&contentId=A37397-2000Mar18 – see the fourth paragraph), one has to wonder why anyone listens to any of his scientific hallucinations, er, I mean prognostications, at all.

“Albert Gore Jr. won the Nobel peace prize was vice president for 8 years without scandal …”

Not quite. Here are a few interesting quotes from the book, The Stupidest Things Ever Said by Politicians:

On Illegal Fund-Raisers at Buddhist Temples, Al Gore on:
Explanation number 1: It wasn’t a fund-raiser, it was a “community outreach event.”
Explanation number 2: It wasn’t a fund-raiser, it was just “finance-related.”
Explanation number 3: It wasn’t a fund-raiser, it was a “donor-maintenance meeting.”

There’s also this amusing tidbit:
On Historical Knowledge, Vice-Presidential:
“Who are these guys?”
Al Gore, referring to the busts of Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, and Lafayette on a televised tour of Monticello. (p. 109)

And this:
“A zebra cannot change its spots.” (p. 54)

And this:
On Senator’s Sons, Typical Days of:

“[My father] taught me how to clean out hog waste with a shovel and a hose. He taught me how to clear land with an ax. He taught me how to plow a steep hillside with a team of mules. He taught me how to take up hay all day long in the hot sun and then, after a dinner break, go help the neighbors take up hay before the rain came and spoiled it on the ground.”

Vice President Al Gore on the virtues of farm life, not mentioning that, as a rich senator’s son, all this was presumably learned on summer vacation from Harvard. A real farmer’s son, Republican National chairman Jim Nicholson, replied, “Mr. Vice President, with all due respect, you’re shoveling a lot more of it right now than you ever did back then.” (p. 141)

And this:
On Timing is Everything:
“[Due to pollution, cars pose] a mortal threat to the security of every nation.”
Senator Al Gore in his 1992 book,
Earth in the Balance.

“Here in Motor City we recognize that cars have done more than fuel our commerce. Cars have freed the American spirit and given us the chance to chase our dreams.”
Vice President Al Gore — while gearing up for his 2000 presidential run — in a 1999 speech to the Economic club of Detroit. (p. 253)

Wade (06:46:18) :

Ah yes, Al Gore. Does anybody remember the fuel additive MTBE? It just so happens that this fuel additive was ground water poison. It can be cleaned up, but it ain’t cheap. Does anybody remember who was the one pushing MTBE? Answer: Al Gore and Carol Browner.

Here is what is known. A disciple (and yes I mean disciple) of Al Gore, Carol Browner, knew MTBE was groundwater poison but destroyed those documents. The data was suppressed that showed a dissenting viewpoint; sound familiar?

For sins like this, Al Gore gets an honorary doctorate. Hey, I recycle a lot. I haven’t damaged groundwater and aquifer supplies. I guess I should dump nuclear waste in my local groundwater if I want to be awarded an honorary doctorate.

MTBE shows us that obviously a tiger can’t change his stripes. Once an eco-scammer, always an eco-scammer. And what is worse, people think the tiger is this safe innocent cute kitten who couldn’t harm anybody.

If you want a history of Al Gore and MTBE, don’t use Wikipedia. Magically, Wikipedia doesn’t include the connection between Al Gore and MTBE, not anywhere. Not even under the page dedicated to the MTBE controversy. Just use your search engine of choice and search for the words Al Gore MTBE. This link will get you started.

http://www.mail-archive.com/ctrl@listserv.aol.com/msg67617.html

“The Education of Al Gore (The Washington Times)

“Mr. Gore’s high school performance on the college board achievement tests in physics (488 out of 800 “terrible,” St. Albans retired teacher and assistant headmaster John Davis told The Post) and chemistry (519 out of 800 “He didn’t do too well in chemistry,” Mr. Davis observed) suggests that Mr. Gore would have trouble with science for the rest of his life. At Harvard and Vanderbilt, Mr. Gore continued bumbling along.

“As a Harvard sophomore, scholar Al “earned” a D in Natural Sciences 6 in a course presciently named “Man’s Place in Nature.” That was the year he evidently spent more time smoking cannabis than studying its place among other plants within the ecosystem. His senior year, Mr. Gore received a C+ in Natural Sciences 118.

“At Vanderbilt divinity school, Mr. Gore took a course in theology and natural science. The assigned readings included the apocalyptic, and widely discredited “Limits to Growth,” which formed much of the foundation for “Earth in the Balance.” It is said that Mr. Gore failed to hand in his book report on time. Thus, his incomplete grade turned into an F, one of five Fs Mr. Gore received at divinity school, which may well be a worldwide record.””

“The displeasure with Gore among the staff [at Current TV] was thick enough to cut with a scimitar.”

May 31, 2019 4:39 pm

Gore is misinformed about the nature of “science.” It is not the process that is operated by people calling themselves “scientists” as he seems to think but rather is “verifiable knowledge.” Today’s climate models provide us with no verifiable knowledge about the outcomes of the future for Earth’s climate system. See Vincent Gray’s essay entitled “Spinning the Climate” for details.

It’s theology. Specifically, theology of American “Blue State”/Progressive sects.
We know “consensus” is not a procedure of science, but a procedure of theology. Harvard of all things used to be a major theological school first of all… then it changed clothes and miraculously happened to “derive from pure reason” exactly what it used to preach before. ;] Well, after the great takeover in the first half of ⅩⅩ century (ending in WWII) Harvard became dominant in half the world, which spilled into the other half (also running derivations of the same theology). Now whatever bureaucrats didn’t convert into paperclips is overrun by theology and quackery. But what else could come from this?

“‘Assault On Science’ Threatens Humanity’s Survival. Hmmm.
I find this all somewhat ironic.
In the 1980s and 1990’s, it was Humanities that were assaulting science in what were called the ‘Science Wars’.

On one hand we had the ‘postmodernists’ who rejected scientific objectivity, the scientific method, empiricism, and scientific knowledge – which were dismissed as ‘social constructs’.

The other side included the excellent Alan Sokal with his excellent ‘Sokal Hoax’ and Jean Bricmont with “Intellectual Impostures”.

So, one may wonder why the humanities (and especially the post-modernists) are now coming out so strongly in support of the same ‘science’ they were so keen to dismiss only a few decades ago?

I suspect the reason is that they consider the science wars to have been won – and that science really IS a social construct. And therefore, if society requires science to the ‘constructed’ a certain way, (“for the good of mankind” and all that sort of thing) then it MUST be constructed that way. As for the truth . . . Well, post-modernists don’t believe in it.

Harvard-esque “science” is a hoax based on a conspiracy, not the other way around. In that Progressive mimicry is as old as separation of the Church and the State it tries to circumvent, thus much older than the fraud in question. And G.K. He is a compelling bullshitter there is no doubt about that but I doubt many at Harvard bought
the climate scare spin .
Isn’t the biggest con -job the notion that humans are somehow going to shape the climate to
some target number ? What scientist will ever seriously make that claim and back it up . Forget whether it warms or cools the proposition that a trace gas , of which humans control a small amount , is somehow
going to be disbursed or limited in order to produce a Goldilocks climate is patently absurd to start with .
Hopefully the Harvard grads are inquisitive enough to form their own conclusions .
