CNN use to be Centrist as were the Alphabet News rooms. Seems they did their Column Left harch! When George W won the Primary and they began their steady “Gravitas” drum beat. It became clearly obvious that all the news rooms conducted a morning conference call back then in order to synch their SPIN narrative. Did George Bush have the Gravitas to be President?

They never stopped to think that a word not normally delivered in the every day lexicon and suddenly appearing on every news channel in the country might appear just slightly suspicious because they were so caught up in their own left moving bubble.

If you watch how these newscasters (not to be confused with prime time opinion hosts) run far left after leaving Fox it should not come as a shock that their internal DNA, the instincts of those who make up the organization desperately wants to join the pack. The want so much to belong. To be one of the cool kids.

FOX has been heading in a different direction since their leadership change, I don’t think it’s politically motivated either but driven by the all mighty dollar. More and more of their articles are full of words that garner attention but lacking in actual content. Not only that they are recycling stories by changing the headlines and putting them back “on top” of the recent news page. I suspect these are stories that got a lot of clicks the first go around.

Tom Halla: I go to fox news website everyday. Ever since Murdoch handed operations over to his kids (and Ailes ousted), there’ll be one or two climate-scare articles a week, no balance for skeptics. The comments indicate the audience knows better, but i suspect Murdoch’s kids have spent many years with all the right people in Manhattan, D.C., London etc., and they seem to fear not being invited to the best parties if fox news covers skeptics. Whatever the reason, on the climate scene fox is the same as the rest of the media. Charles Krauthammer is no longer around to tell them they are losing their niche audience (1/2 of the country).

Talking about plastic pollution – can somebody explain how come the recent expedition to the 10 km depth of the Mariana Trench (is that the name of it?) found plastic bags and lolly wrappers there? I thought it always floated. If it all ends up on the bottom of the sea that soon (40 years since they began to manufacture the stuff), there can be no cause for alarm. Or perhaps plastic manufacturers could be persuaded to make it so heavy that it will sink?

Various sea life attaches itself to anything that floats, making it heavier. Eventually it sinks.

Depends upon the density of the plastic & what’s growing on it.

Well, if the density of plastic can vary, should we not then make it mandatory to make the stuff so dense that it will sink in salt water? Our Greenies will be happy – problem solved. And it would make sense. Then we can collect all that heavy plastic and dump it over the Mariana Trench – the ultimate, perfect rubbish tip.

“They” are becoming desperate. The mantra, that if you tell a big enough lie for long enough people will believe you, doesn’t seem to be working.

It’s dispiriting to see that almost all politicians give lip service to CAGW. Things are changing though. In Germany the AfD is directly basing its campaign on countering CAGW hysteria. link That, and the election in Australia the other day, give me hope that the tide may be turning.

Climate change or “homophobia”. The two great catch-all excuses for personal failure.

May 20, 2019 6:56 pm

With the current level of alarmism coming out of Propaganda Arm of US Democrats, aka NYTimes, CNN, and the major networks ABC, NBC, CBS…
(UK has theirs in the BBC, Gruniad. Aussies have theirs in the SMH, ABC)

I can only imagine what Level 12 will be when Level 11 ‘s failure become clear.

Because you see with Progressives/Socialists, they never admit their own fundamental failures of policy, of the policy itself. They always put their failures as due to “bad actors”, “uneducated deplorables,” or “the People were not intelligent enough to see the wisdom of such-and-such policy”, etc… President Obama was well noted for this policy failure attribution transferal. Hillary of course famous for this in blaming everyone besides herself for her election defeat.

And they always see the solution to that as simply they needed ever more dollars to sell their policy. It is always ever more messaging. More propaganda is the answer.
Because the last thing they can allow to happen is an admission of the fundamental failure of the underlying policy.

So coming up…. Level 12 in 2020.

Get your popcorn ready.

The problem they have is that whenever “climate change” is an issue in an election, the party espousing it gets destroyed. I heard recently that all these recent climate marches are a popular movement. They are nothing of the kind -just a bunch of students, ecofascists and amplification by the MSM. The REAL popular movement is to oppose this crap, especially when our private-jet flying “elites” try to push the costs of their lunacy on to us. The Yellow Vest riots started as a fight back against a “carbon tax”, so the chances of the globalist loonies forcing normals to give up the benefits of modern, fossil-fueled life are zero. That is why they are so hysterical. hj

Okay, sounds sirius (serious). For a start, to what degree was the oxygen concentration lowered and what were the concentrations of other gasses? In various habitats, how about three dimensional maps of O2 and CO2 concentrations as a function (not functionality) of depth and temperature, averaged over a period of time, without regard to currents. There are some who think there were times when CO2 concentrations were around 1,000 ppm. What about that situation?

Reply to  Mark - Helsinki

Mark, the beauty of ocean acidification is that ‘acid’ sounds dangerous and scary and most people don’t understand chemistry at all. The imagery of anything and every thing dissolving in the ocean does seem frightening.

People understand temperature and just about everyone pays attention to the daily temperature forecasts. Years of “We’re All Gonna Fry!” and nothing in particular happening has relegated runaway global warming to “yeah, sure, whatever” status among all but the most fervent CAGW believers and some of them are slowly falling by the wayside.

I would say your guess at “Ocean Acidification!” would be a pretty safe bet except that all the rubbish papers being put out that tie everything to Climate Change/Global Warming will have a much harder time tying their conclusions to Ocean Acidification. Try tying decreased harvests in Iowa or Nebraska to ocean acidification. It would be tough to do. Grants would dry up for too many researchers because they can’t tie their work to the new scare.

So my bet is that the new horse to ride will be “Global Warming causes Global Cooling and we will all freeze to death from Global Warming if we don’t stop using fossil fuels, raise taxes, embrace veganism, and form a One World government.”

Today’s story from the BEEB is that sea levels MAY rise by double the amount, 2 metres instead of 1 metre, by the end of the century IF global temperatures go up by the maximum forecast.
Apparently we must put CO2 levels into reverse, i.e. back to the little ice age.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-48337629

Meanwhile we have been enjoying a high pressure system with very little wind and electricity generation well below 2 GW for the past 10 days. So if we are to go fossil free by 2025, then we need to multiply the number of windmills by a factor of 10 to ensure we have a reliable supply of electricity for light, heat, cooking, transport and industry. How much CO2 will we need to make these windmills. And the batteries for backup.

It all reminds me of one of the Goon shows stories.

Certainment. Gentlemen, these boot-explosions are caused by a weakening in Britain’s deposits of Scradje.

Certainment-ment. Scradje is a substance found beneath the Earth’s surface. This Scradje radiates upwards, keeping level with the Gulf-stream and keeps the pressure on the Earth’s surface at an even level. Thus preventing boots from exploding. Unfortunately, Britain’s Scradje deposits are rapidly losing their potency. With the results that have now become apparent.

Good evening. I’m speaking to you about these boot-explosions. We, the government are doing all in our power to rectify this grave Scradje-deficiency which apparently exists. Until then, the British public must take the following precautions. To prevent yourselves exploding, remove your boots, reverse the buttons on your socks and walk backwards, holding a gas-stove above your head. I do hope this is only a temporary measure. Good night.

Just … wow! First of all this was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS) which has become notorious for ‘pal review’. And it describes “a structured expert judgement study”, that is to say a bunch of ‘climate experts’ gave their opinion. It’s not even based on bad computer models. It is filtered through what ‘experts’ think it all means. What a rickety house of cards.
As usual, the findings are filtered through advocacy groups (BBC) which only tell you what the upper bound extremes are. If you look in the abstract, the 2°C projection gives a median sea-level rise of just about current levels (~3.3mm/yr). So why isn’t the headline “Scientists project that nothing much may change due to climate change”? [We know why.\
