Claim: Joe Biden’s Climate Views are Not Radical Enough to Win Democrat Nomination

Democrat Presidential wannabe Joe Biden. By David Lienemann – White House (V011013DL-0556), Public Domain, Link

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

Biden has yet to formally announce a climate policy, but hints that a Biden presidency might allow industrial civilisation to survive have angered Democrat activists.

Could climate change submerge Joe Biden’s presidential bid?

The former vice-president has yet to put forward a plan to address global warming, which polls suggest is the single most important issue for Democrats

This is set to change, according to Reuters, with the Biden campaign working on a strategy to reinstate climate policies torn down by Donald Trump, such as restrictions on coal-fired power plants and vehicle fuel efficiency requirements.

The plan, which is being worked on by the former Barack Obama adviser Heather Zichal, would see the US remain in the Paris climate agreement and offer support for nuclear energy and also natural gas, which is generally cleaner than coal but still emits planet-warming pollutants. Biden is also said to favour nascent carbon capture technology, which aims to contain and store emissions from industrial facilities.

But this “middle ground” approach has been roundly attacked by environmental groups and progressive Democrats for being woefully insufficient.

A ‘middle ground’ policy that’s supportive of more fossil fuel development is a death sentence for our generation and the millions of people on the frontlines of the climate crisis,” said Varshini Prakash, director of the Sunrise Movement, a youth climate change organization allied to progressive Democrats such as the New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Even climate scientists are not allowed to promote nuclear power. When climate scientist James Hansen begged the world to embrace nuclear power, Naomi Oreskes called him a denier.

IDK … I believe Creepster Uncle Joey has a perfectly articulated US Climate Policy. Send ALL our manufacturing jobs to China! That will SAVE the US Climate! That will SAVE the planet! Sleepster, Creepster, Uncle Joey says China are a SWELL bunch who shouldn’t be “feared” by anyone.

Oh! and to buy all US Oil from Venezuela, and shut down ALL US Oil exploration and recovery. That will SAVE the US Climate!

The hilarious thing is Joe Biden is a guy who was a Senator and Vice-President in Washington from January 1973 to January 2017, but now he wants to “fix” a broken Washington. He now wants Washington to work for the working class to get a fair deal.

With the Trump economy and China getting put back on its heels, the working stiff now has job opportunities calling him/her. But Creepy Joe wants to undo that. I guess Joe wants to return to US Steel mills, mills starting back up now with orders, to back when he helping shut them down in the late 1970’s. And he wants to continue shutting down coal miners’ jobs via regulations.

The Democrats cling to a theory that they will ride the crest of a demographic wave to power. link They note that the old grumpy white men who support the Republicans are dying off.

The theory loving Democrats are missing one piece of folk wisdom. Folks get more conservative as they age and the population is aging. link

The smug theory-loving Democrat elites may have it backward. It may be the Republicans who are going to ride the crest of the demographic wave.

Yeah, the Dems will dump him in favor of someone more radical, loud-mouthed and ridiculous. He’s far too blase (blah-zay) and vaguely “normal” (whatever that means now) for the march to a progressive socialist drumbeat. He just doesn’t have what it takes to scare the heebyjeebies out of voters, so that they’ll vote the opposite side of the ticket.

It’s going to be interesting. But we should be grateful that they are at least letting us know well ahead of Voting Day what our choices may turn out to be.

Trump’s central theme/tactics in his The Art of the Deal is to go to the extreme position in a negotiation so that when he gets to other side to compromise, it is actually where he rationally wanted them anyway.

The Green New Deal plays on this idea. It is so extreme and a non-starter that the “middle ground” compromise seems reasonable to the casual bystander (read “ignorant voter”). Thus we’ve gotten these RINO Congressmen now proposing their own Conservative Green Deal junk that still legitimizes most things like a carbon tax (that opens the spigot to “ever more” for Libs), cap and trade, while spending lots of money we (US) don’t have, etc.

Joe Biden is being positioned as this Middle Ground guy on the Climate Scam. The compromise between the Ignore Climate Change Trump and the GND socialist climate crazies.
Biden has recently said he will reverse the “Trump Agenda.” The Trump agenda has been nothing so far but mostly a reversal of Obama “pen and phone” unconstitutional agenda as he hasn’t gotten Congress to fund his Border Wall or enact immigration reform. Biden will of course reverse the reduction in regulations at EPA, FWS. Biden will try to return to the lucrative “Sue and Settle” policies at the EPA that put gobs of taxpayer cash into DVC law firms. He’ll stop allowing mine permitting to return to honest evaluation.

First and Foremost, Biden would immeidately try to re-impose the never-ratified Paris Agreement on the US before the formal withdrawal became final. And of course he’d try to hand $3Billion (or more) a year over to the UN Climate Aid Fund. He’d kill any new mineral mines in the US by ensuring the Army Corps of Engineers, FWS, and EPA shut them down in the review process. He’d bring back a new version of CPP, which would drive higher electricity prices, while upping subsidy steroids to the Green Blob. He’d re-regulate at the EPA to impose Biden would of course bring back Obama’s WOTUS rules to make well fracking waste water so onerously expensive to dispose of that fracking gets choked-off on non-Federal lands, etc.

Regardless of 2020 outcome, the one thing that will confront the next Democratic-socialist President is a Conservative majority Supreme Court. Biden could join the call to pack the court with 4 more Liberal Justices in order to return the US to the Lawless, unconstitutional ways of Obama. The Senate could be the only stopping that if it can remain in GOP control. The filibuster will certainly be eliminated completely the next time the Democrats control both the White House and the Senate majority, so that they can enact the Liberal legislative agenda without the Supreme Court getting involved in unilateral Executive branch law-making.

But Creepy Joe will have a tough time getting past the the March primaries with all the crazies to his left. All the Kamala Krazies, the Bernie Bots, Lizzy’s Squaw Squad will have theri knives out for Sleepy Joe and his gaffe machine.

No matter which Democrat gets the nomination, the destruction of the US’s now Energy Dominance economy would be a central goal of Democratic Administration. A destruction that entails empowering the Green Blob continued raping of the American taxpayer and for the Swamp to continue feeding on the corpse of the US economy. Meanwhile, China and Russia would look on with nodding approval.

Politics is basically “The art of the” possible””, so if the USA Democrats
go through a period of madness, then people will not vote for them. So
wiser heads will ensure that whoever they finally put up as a Presidential
can nidate will be acceptable to the majority.

Of course if they do not , then Pres. Trump may well get his second term,
followed by a similar sort of a person.

As to the statement that as we get older, that we become more Conservative, i.e. we learn from experience what is true and what is not. But unlike the Australian system which forces us to at least get to the polling station and have our names crossed off, thus making it all but certain that we will then vote, but under the US system will the older and wiser old people make the effort to go too vote ?

Its a very true saying that “The people get the sort of Government that they deserve”””. If it destroys their economy , well next election put in someone else. Its called Democracy .

They tend to be more reliable in casting their votes than the younger voters. Mail-in ballots have made it all the easier for older voters to continue to vote without the need to “make the effort to go” to a polling place to vote. If she had to go to the polling place and stand in a line to vote, my senior citizen mother would have stopping casting her ballot a decade ago at least. Instead she fills out her mail-in ballot every election without fail.

There is a conservative “Silent Majority” in the United States. It elected Ronald Reagan and it elected Trump, although it was a close vote.

The question is how big is the conservative Silent Majority today as compared to the numbers on the Left.

The advantage of the Left is they have 95 percent of the news media promoting the Left’s ideas (such as they are) and tearing down the conservatives. The possible advantage on the conservative side is the outrage being generated by the ongoing Democrat coup efforts to destroy Trump.

So the MSM’s influence will be answered in the next election. Has the MSM been able to motivate enough voters on the Left to turn out and vote and win, or are the MSM’s constant negative, dishonest attacks on Trump going to motivate the conservatives and other reasonable people to turn out and make a statement about the Democrats and their dispicable, dangerous attempts to undermine our form of governmentr.

The Democrats need to lose control of the House. If you don’t like what the Democrats are trying to pull with their harrassment of President Trump, then send the Democrats a message and vote them out of power.

It will be interesting. How many people can the MSM fool? How many people can the MSM anger?

I keep hearig stories about Democrats who say they are disgusted with how the Democrat Party has been behaving and they are going to change their political affiliation because they no longer want to be associated with the Democrat Party. I’ve heard life-long Democrats say this very thing. My barber for one, and his wife. 🙂

It appears that the MSM is going to be investigated for their colluson with the Obama administration and the Democrats in trying to overthrow President Trump and disenfranchise his 63 million supporters.

Through this investigation we are going to see that the MSM are just an arm of the Democrat Party, the Propaganda arm. I wonder if those reporters ever considered that they might be serving jail time. I bet it never even cross their mind. I bet it is crossing their minds now. They should get themselves some expensive lawyers because they were an integral part in this conspiracy to thwart an election and overthrow a duly elected president. They need to be held to account.

If Joe Biden were to win the presidency, he would take office at the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 0 days. Ronald Reagan left office at the age of 77 years, 11 months, 14 days.

Should Donald Trump win a second term, he will leave office at 78 years, 7 months, and 6 days. Not appreciably older than the start of a Biden presidency.

I’m personally flabbergasted by President Trump’s energy. I just turned 65, and I could never keep up the pace he does. I seriously doubt that Biden could when at his best, and he’s clearly already becoming muddled – a sure sign of lack of energy. I doubt if he has much of a chance.

Biden is having speech problems related to a clear age-related, cognitive decline. He frequently slurs and mispronounces words and phrases in speeches. His recent Margret Thatcher gaffe was another symptom of the same cognitive decline. So far most of his public talks have been short appearances. Longer speaking appearances, so far like a private fund-raising dinners, the media cameras and recorders are being prohibited.

The mainstream media for now is largely covering up this stuff, just as they did for Hillary Clinton and her Parkinson-like problems and episodes.

But Creepy Joe will not be able to avoid this scrutiny in to the Fall where he will be expected to stand for hour-long debates and campaign stops with many cameras. There will be no convenient, enabling editing of videos. His verbal speech pattern problems and word pronunciations slips will expose an underlying cognitive decline. There are already plenty of hints of this. The Democratic supporters who are trying to push Joe Biden are simply denying this reality to themselves.

And once Old Man Joe Goes, then unavoidable age scrutiny on Bernie Sanders in the Democrats’ base will drive him out as well.

A return of the Obama agenda not radical enough? I think the Dems would take that especially if it has the better chance to defeat Trump. They will accept anything or anybody to get rid of Trump. This may just be a smoke screen to make Biden appear as the “reasonable one” on climate, appealing to the lets just get along, both sides are partly right, types.

A real danger is to get RHINOs to run as a third party to siphon votes away from Trump allowing a weak alternative such as Biden to win despite of himself. Also Biden might start courting somebody like Mitt Romney or Ben Sasse as running mates.

Joe Biden currently leads all Presidential primary polls by multiple tens of percent (nearing 50% support). The majority of the candidates running for the Democratic nomination are not hard core left wingers. All of the seats flipped by the Democrats in last November’s mid-term election were won by centrists – not a single left wingnut flipped a single GOP seat. The senior Democrat in power today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, specifically rejected the “Green New Deal” and mocked Occasio-Cortez for proposing it.

I’d say you guys are doing a whole lotta whistling past the graveyard, particularly when your guy Trump is stuck at 40% approval in the polls, give or take, and who never won a majority of the vote in 2016 either. He is NOT getting more popular. Particularly those folks who actually believed his BS about being for the little guy and against the “elite” and who are getting screwed now. The states that he barely squeaked by in to win his electoral college majority in the upper midwest all went strongly Democrat in the 2018 mid-terms.

Nobody knows who the Dem nominee will be, but don’t bet on it being Sanders or one of the left wingnuts. Best bet is a centrist who actually has experience in governing. Gee, I wonder who that might be?

Biden has never “governed”. He’s been in DC for 45 years. He was a US Senator at Richard Nixon’s 2nd Inauguration on Jan 20, 1973.

There are 3 Dem governors running now. Inslee (WA), Hickenlooper (CO), and Bullock (MT). They are all below 1% in Dem polling currently. It is difficult to see how they can raise the kind of campaign cash, especially grass roots-small donor cash, they need to stay in. This is a money game at this point.

Senators govern. Biden was a leader in the Senate for decades, including service as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Better look up your Constitution – the Senate is part of the Federal government. It’s called “Article I” of the Constitution.

Oh, and apparently you’ve forgotten that he has Executive experience too – you know, that brief 8 year period when he served as Vice President.

Senators govern

No, they don’t. Being part of the government doesn’t make one a governer. The janitor of the Senate and an army private are part of the federal government, does that give them governing experience? no. Governing is the realm of the executive branch, not the legislative, and the President, as head of the Executive branch is the “Governor” not some random Senator. Better look up your constitution on the separation of powers there buddy.

Definition Govern (merriam websters): to exercise continuous sovereign authority over; especially : to control and direct the administration of policy in.

Notice that describes what the executive branch does, not what the legislative branch does.

Oh, and apparently you’ve forgotten that he has Executive experience too – you know, that brief 8 year period when he served as Vice President.

At least there you have a valid point. Though spending 8 years waiting for the other guy to kick the bucket might not be what most people think of as extensive governing experience, which is what most people think of when they think of the VP (as mistaken as that impression might be) so I can see where someone might overlook “that brief 8 year period” of Biden’s resume.

MarkW

Running a committee a couple of times a month is not governing.

Just how much give or take are you talking about? Rasumussen’s (picked because you didn’t specify and it was the top search result returned for “trump poll daily tracking”) May 2nd 2019 poll had Trump at 51%. That’s 11 points above your claimed 40%, that’s a lot of give. Whereas the lowest Trump has been in the Rassmussen poll is 38% on Aug 2nd 2017 (and except for the three day period of Aug 1-3, 2017 Trump has been consistently above 40%) so not much take to be found. And since Jan of 2018 Trumps numbers have been roughly on par with Obamas at the same point in his term (IE mostly in the mid to upper 40s). Of course that’s just one poll (other polls may and do vary) but the point remains, you’re blanked unqualified statement doesn’t fit.
