Saturday Silliness: Who is behind sad Greta Thunberg?

As many WUWT readers know, child climate crusader Greta Thunberg always seems to have a sad frown on her face:

Greta Thunberg in front of the Swedish parliament in Stockholm, August 2018 – image: Wikipedia

Josh thinks he’s found the real reason behind the frown (as mentioned in a Tweet). Shame on the PR company behind Greta for taking away her childhood.

We know it here at WUWT as “the green blob”…

I don’t mean this in a derogatory way towards her. I too feel sorry for her.

But the whole thing just makes me think of Abigail Williams from the Salem Witch Trials when I read about her.

Kids will say crazy stuff. In the 1980s there were accusations of satanic ritual child abuse. They were largely the result of the way the children involved were questioned.

There was also the pernicious effect of federal funding. link Based on the bogus child abuse allegations, the feds increased the funding for child abuse research by almost ten fold. Naturally, if there is grant money, some enterprising people will generate studies showing the desired result.

Scientists are just as venal as anyone else. Whether it is satanic cults, or nutrition science (Ancel Keys’ fat hypothesis), or climate science, grant money will result in studies that produce the ‘correct’ results.

It really is child abuse, rising to a level of criminality.
But it is also very sick and evil, as I suppose all child abuse is, as well as much criminal behavior.
Crimes which deliberately involve ones own children have to have a special place, I would think, in the hierarchy of evil.

I disagree and don’t actually think she looks cute at all – she has a very hard look in her eyes. In fact very little about her appearance looks natural for a 16 yr old. The pigtails and the childish getup are obviously part of the PR …..

What is more concerning is that so many of the clearly ignorant public, fall for the prognostications of a child.

Many females this age are virtually indistinguishable from a young adult, and could pass for 25 or 30 when they want to.
So, besides for her attire, is something else going on here?

It’s the unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats in Brussels who are funding Greta Thunberg’s campaign. The purpose is to engage indoctrinate more children into the global warming movement. And thus in turn more parents, as we have seen recently in the media.

But was the EU behind the scare originally? Possibly. Though it’s just as likely to be yet more unaccountable technocrats and autocrats in the (even more corrupt) UN. The sole purpose being social engineering to make all citizens feel responsible for the nonsense claim about CO2-induced global warming.

Yes, we have to transition our economies away from fossil fuels because the supply is limited. As the cost increases due in part to dwindling supplies, but mostly due to increased taxation – hence the Gilet Jaunes – so will more people suffer. Poorer households and smaller businesses first, then progressively up through society and business. Until, eventually, economic collapse. Everything we do, everything we use, everything we eat, has an energy value that currently is dependent on a non-sustainable source: fossil fuels.

What better way to make progress than to instil guilt to drive a bottom-up approach to the transition to sustainable energy production and usage.

If the supply really is “limited” then the transition will occur naturally because the increased price for an increasingly scarce resource will guarantee that a more attractive energy source will be sought.
Meddling would not be needed as the marketplace would sort it out.

The fact is that the supply is vast and that drives the neo-Marxists nuts.

Gail Tverberg suggests that the price of oil will actually fall as it becomes more scarce – counter-intuitive and all that. As economies contract, there will be less and less demand for expensive oil, so there will be less investment in new finds, which will make oil less available, therefore more expensive and therefore more unattractive due to a high price – ending up with very cheap, but unavailable oil for the few humans still left to reminisce over the good old days.

We have an abundant supply of fossil fuels for long into the future and by the time we rung, other fuels will have be developed, Wind, solar, biomass and biofuels are extremely destructive to animals and the Earth. They are cures far worse than the disease, FFs and can’t run without FFs.
The environment certainly won’t benefit from massive economic collapses–it will make it far worse.
Nonetheless, the destruction of economies is the goal of those who invented the entire CO2 is evil meme. Just listen to them.

Sadly, this now includes developmentally challenged children where their motivation seems to be reinforcing the fear mongering with pity.

There’s two of them now!
On the eve of the EU summit in Sibiu, Romania, Macron yesterday talked 16-year-old Greta Thunberg (Sweden) and Luisa Neubauer (23, Germany). Merkel was neither invited, nor did she join the initiative which Macron and 8 other EU leaders — from Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Latvia — agreed on, to reach a zero emissions standard in Europe by 2050. Neubauer and Thunberg called on Macron to increase the pressure on Merkel, to force Germany to pursue a even more radical decarbonization policy.

I was traumatised as a child by a geography book which said (and this has stuck in my mind for 60 years) “Bit by bit the rivers eat away the land and carry it down to the sea”. I would lie awake imagining the ground disappearing beneath us even though the river was half a mile away and I paddled there quite happily.

Lord Deben, head of the CCC in the UK, has form in this regard. When he was plain John Selwyn Gummer, he was something to do with food safety at the time of the BSE outbreak. He made his daughter eat a beefburger on television to demonstrate how safe it was. In the end, he was probably right about BSE, but the principle of exploiting children to promote your own agenda was the same.

John Selwyn Gummer was Minister of Agriculture when he attempted to feed the burger to his daughter during the outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease) in the UK. As I recall the incident as it was reported at the time, his daughter (with the wisdom of a child) refused the offer whereupon Gummer ate it himself.

He might possibly use the unfortunate long term effects as an explanation for his behaviour as chair of the Climate Change Committee.

What matters is how she is eventually treated by adults. The story of Nonqawuse (see Wiki) is a similar, a parallel story that is close enough to be a warning.

In fact one could say history is repeating itself, something I noticed after she claimed to be able to see CO2. To see CO2 requires infrared vision, therefore she has superhuman abilities. That is the essence of Nonqawuse’s story. Once the adults started to take her “message” seriously it was difficult to turn back. If they take her to be a prophetess some serious consequences are likely.

1) the dead would arise;
2) all living cattle would have to be slaughtered, having been reared by contaminated hands;
3) cultivation would cease;
4) new grain would have to be dug;
5) new houses would have to be built;
6) new cattle enclosures would have to be erected;
7) new milk sacks would have to be made;
8) doors would have to be weaved with buka roots and lastly;
9) that people abandon witchcraft, incest and adultery.

She is not alone. Sadly.

In the UK we are having to suffer government sponsored adverts (via an NGO via an ad agency) where aurally and – on TV – visually, we are told by very young children saying:

 I want to live in a world where we still have polar bears.
 I want to live in a world where we can always breathe clean air.
 I want to live in a world where our energy supply won’t run out.
 I want to live in a world where we’re doing everything we can to save what we
have.
 I want to live in a beautiful world.
And so on – before the voice-over that tells us a smart meter (may not be the answer to climate change) could help.

It’s disgusting and a throwback to how things were in the mid-1930s in Europe (say no more).

Moves are afoot to get the ad taken down but government and (ad) agencies are very clever at getting their message across. This really needs to stop.

PeterGB
Reply to  Harry Passfield

Smart meter installation will cost the UK £16bn+ in total. Individual replacement installation is running at about £400 and the last survey showed that an annual saving of £10-£11 on a family’s fuel bill “might” be expected. Provided, of course, that you don’t change supplier (a move which could save some consumers £300pa) in which case it will probably revert to being a meter without the smart. Eventually the British public will learn that this is typical of the ROI to be expected from greencrap.

I am particularly amused by the third point in the tv advert; “I want to live in a world where our energy supply won’t run out”. Unless we get fracking started very soon in the UK it will only take a long cold winter high pressure spell to run through our meagre gas and oil strategic supplies. Intermittents will be running at 1% capacity, nuclear will be at full pelt, imports will be zero because France has similar weather, the lights will go out and people will die from the cold. But it’s great being green.

Wow … why the steep cost? There isn’t that much to actual “replacement” (one man, a two-minute job) on the meter box, and the BOM (Bill of Materials) for parts/components has got to be under 20 bucks (in quantity). Now, there is some NRE to “write-off” for the development. But 400 a unit over the quantity involved?

Greta is being used, exactly the same way that the polar bear was being used a decade ago………in a marketing scheme, where they serve as “mascots” representing the vulnerable on this planet………to elicit an emotional response/tug at heartstrings.

The threatened polar bear narrative didn’t work out so well when, instead of them facing adversity from melting sea ice in the Arctic as we were promised would happen, their populations exploded higher.

https://www.thegwpf.org/as-polar-bear-numbers-increase-gwpf-calls-for-re-assessment-of-endangered-species-status/

“Since 2005, however, the estimated global polar bear population has risen by more than 30% to about 30,000 bears, far and away the highest estimate in more than 50 years. ”

But this should have been obvious to those that know it was much warmer than this in the Arctic 5,000 to 9,000 years ago and the polar bears did just fine then.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocene_climatic_optimum

“The Holocene Climate Optimum warm event consisted of increases of up to 4 °C near the North Pole (in one study, winter warming of 3 to 9 °C and summer of 2 to 6 °C in northern central Siberia)”

Note the adjective describing that period WARMER than today. It wasn’t the Holocene Climate CRISIS. It was universally understood and agreed that warmer conditions during the Holocene climate OPTIMUM caused life to flourish and do better.
Then, the UN/IPCC hijacked climate science, erased the Medieval WARM period, 1,000 years ago that was this warm, when life flourished and a number of groups with similar political objectives(UN/IPCC/world governments/extreme environmentalists/activist scientists/mainstream media) became the gate keepers of information………..which has led us to the fake climate crisis.

So using Greta and the future of her generation is just another scam from the same playbook to sell us on something that only exists on simulations of the atmosphere going out 100 years based on programmed computer models……..even while our planet massively greens up.

But there is a much worse element to this………….the brainwashing of our children with junk science.

https://www.fatherly.com/news/students-skip-school-protest-climate-change-global-climate-strike/

“The weekly strikes are taking place in over 1,700 cities across more than 100 countries—and now American students are joining in, as they push for environment-improving initiatives, like the Green New Deal. Led by Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, the non-binding resolution calls for a complete switch to renewable energy in the U.S. by 2030.”
We are seeing many comments similar to this on social media:

Ilhan Omar ✔ @IlhanMN

· Mar 8, 2019

“My little sister is in first grade and she’s going to graduate high school in 2030, so to think that I get to have a childhood and she won’t even be able to reach adulthood”

How many of these millions of children that are being taught that the planet and the human race is in peril and we must act now or the planet will be lost in 12 years(not 11, or 13 years but exactly 12 years because the gate keepers of the climate science secrets, are so knowledgeable and wise, that they can pin it down to the exact year when everything will be lost unless we do exactly as they say now)….are also being taught that there are many non caring adults who are responsible for the lack of actions to save the planet?

How about most of them that believe in the fake climate crisis are being taught that.

There are “bad”? people who don’t care about the earth and the children of the future. They are the ones trying to sabotage the good people’s effort to save the planet.

If you’re a kid, this makes perfect sense because you don’t know otherwise.

I wonder what the party is of the good people trying to save the planet and what the party is of the bad people that don’t care about the planet or even worse are obstructing the good people’s actions? Brainwashing a decade before they can even vote.

Once you’ve convinced children in the climate crisis, their brains process all new information differently than before. Effectively establishing a permanent cognitive bias at the most malleable stage of life.

Periods in history warmer than this………….doesn’t compute.
The planet greening up…………..doesn’t compute.
Life always doing better when it’s this warm or a bit warmer………doesn’t compute.
The optimal level of atmospheric CO2 for life being double this…….doesn’t compute.
Sea levels increasing around 1 inch/decade…..does not compute.
Observations/empirical data not matching up with extreme climate model predictions used to scare people……will not compute.
Natural cycles that have always been a factor influencing climate…..does not compute.
Extreme weather constantly broadcast as unprecedented and from catastrophic man made climate change………even though weather records show it happened just like that many times in the past and sometimes was worse…………does not compute.

To them, the climate crisis is science settled at the confidence level of the law of gravity because that’s exactly how it’s being taught to them. It’s entirely from humans and there will be no planet as we know it in 12 years and they will have no life as they know it in 12 years. But we have one chance…… if we do exactly as the gatekeepers with the understanding(obtained from their alternate universe of junk science/energy) tell us to do to fix it.

The 12 year to Doom,is an open admission the game is up.
We should adapt the 12 days of Christmas to this meme.
The 12 years of Climate Cataclysm.

If fact they seem to be begging for 12 more years before we fire them all.
Even the fools now acknowledge Proclaiming Climate Catastrophe is Comedy.

Truancy is not the way to increase knowledge.
Girls in other parts of the world, instead of having to work, would love to go to school and learn.

Frightening children in order to advance your cause has been going on for a long time. Fifty years ago the threatened catastrophe was nuclear war. My daughter, who was in high school in the 1980s, said that many of the boys in her class said it didn’t make any difference what they did because the world was going to blow up anyway.

it was even before then, in the early 70s having gotten the enforced messages on ZPG and starvation already happening for kids I started to develop an eating disorder. how could I eat when i was seeing starved biafran kids every day on tv and in the womens magazines my mum read , without feeling guilt.
and believe me we were poor and food wasn’t plentiful but I still felt bad. I decided to not have children because of that indoctrination also.
Gretas parents and all those promoting her decidedly ILLinformed view of the world are so much the same as the earlier testrun from Ehrlich Strong etc it makes me wildly angry and also feeling ill to see it happen to a far worse degree via the mass media nowdays.
and the fact we have so many terminally stupid adults supporting this abuse of children and childhood.

The poor kid is simply parroting what she has been taught at school! She believes it implicitly, because she’s been told repeatedly, throughout her education, that humans are causing the planet to heat up. She also believes that polar bears are dying out. They told her that in school too!

If politicians want to introduce more ”climate emergency” policies, then what better way than to get vocal critics, preferably school children, to protest that the various Governments aren’t doing enough. The protest marches shout their message for all to hear. They want the Governments to ”tell us the truth” tell us just how bad things really are.
That’s it, job done. The politicians have their ultimatum, Emergency declared. Now we’re really screwed.

Why do we always react to what they say. We need to go on the offensive and start our own narrative . Get us a poster child and quick, it’s freezing in Tucson

that child is not well 🙁

hard to know the source of her illness, could be physical or emotional …

In either case her being used by the Green movement is child abuse …

I looked up the term, useful idiot, and found her pigtailed face.

Unfortunately, it’s not her fault. I understand she has some form of autism, so it’s not exactly politically correct to be making fun of the poor gal. There’s a good chance that someday, she’s going to wake up and completely resent her parents for allowing her to be used as a PR tool for a lie. I genuinely feel terribly for her.

For those that don’t realize it, this girl’s parents have probably been getting paid under the table by one or more environmental groups to act as a poster child for the climate alarmist movement. Note how she’s been carefully dresses down and told to wear a woe-is-me expression all the time. It’s too bad a girl her age has been convinced to allow herself to be used in this way, but if the price is right, anything goes.

Don’t think rationally about the message, EMOTE about the messenger!

The Hydrino economy, to follow the “carbon” economy.

It’s a matter of engineering now, and fashioning a suitable design that is able to be patent/IP protected while yet being economically-priced/priced under “conventional” power generating technology.

SO much unneeded worry during this interim period before the Hydrino-based ‘tech’ reaches the mature, mass-production stage.

The latest paper in the march toward harnessing the Hydrino at commercial-scale/grade power levels: “OXYGEN AND SILVER NANOPARTICLE AEROSOL MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC POWER CYCLE”
