Environmental trade war! Macron REFUSES to back US-EU deal over climate change

From the Express

FRENCH President Emmanuel Macron has snubbed trade talks between Brussels and the US over Donald Trump ‘s dismissal of climate change policies.

By Carly Read

PUBLISHED: 20:35, Thu, Apr 11, 2019 | UPDATED: 20:44, Thu, Apr 11, 2019

The young Frenchman attempted to speak for all of Europe before stating that France as a member state “opposes” the EU-US deal, before urging other member states to “fight” with Paris. He told his Twitter followers: “We defend an exemplary Europe for the climate. France opposes the launching of a trade negotiation with the United States that is outside the Paris Agreement. “This fight, France does not wear it alone but it must make his voice heard in a moment of truth. It is the long-term European project that is at stake. “France will continue to raise its climate commitment, with concrete proposals: reduction of pesticides, carbon neutrality in 2050, food safety.”

His demand for Europe-wide backing was widely mocked on social media.

One Twitter user said: “Sir, look at your economic results before teaching everyone. Pathetic, loss of credibility and inaudible.”

He added a laughing emoji at the end of his scathing reply.

Another, referring to the next elections in France, warned: “In 2020, it will be on again.”

Another commenter, referring to Mr Macron himself, said:

“Whenever he speaks he does the opposite or he lies it’s a crazy thing if there was a scale of hypocrisy it would be the Macron scale.”

Despite the 41-year-old’s snub of the talks between Washington and Brussels, the EU is going ahead with them regardless because all the other 27 member states gave them the green light.

The generally anti-Trump media warned the president’s crazy ideology would trigger violence. They were right. It’s just that they just had the wrong guy …. It was Macron’s Mad Warnings on Climate that set Paris alight.

It was Macron’s Mad Warnings on Climate that set Paris alight.

It was not his “warnings on climate” but hike in fuel prices with climate as the pretext which triggered the massive demos and a whole popular movement.

Diesel is now almost the same price as petrol ( gasoline ) at pumps in France. That is a rise of about 40% in the last year or so. The pretext for this was “emissions” but the real reason is much more simple : tax revenue. The hike in diesel prices through taxation allowed him to abolish the wealth tax on the super rich. Thus taxing the struggling working and middle class to give money to the super rich.

The last few pennies which he added as a form of “carbon tax” was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The gilets jaunes movement is primarily the struggling debt-ridden working population who have had enough.

“France will continue to raise its climate commitment, with concrete proposals: reduction of pesticides, carbon neutrality in 2050, food safety.”

Reducing pesticides would be a good thing in France where pesticide residue in food in among the highest in the developed world. Food safety , who would be opposed to that?

But note how he cleverly tries to entwine this with the fake “climate” action, as though the two are part of the same thing.

Canada’s Environment Minister does the same thing almost daily, and journalists never call her out on it.

What has happened to Canadian journalism?

“What has happened to Canadian journalism?”

Laura Logan did an interview on Fox News yesterday that sheds a lot of light on what has happened to journalism in general, including Canadian journalism, I would guess.

She has been a high-profile journalist for 30 years and she was discussing how Ted Koppel, another high-profile journalist, had come out criticizing the Leftwing News Media for the obvious anti-Trump bias in their reporting. Laura said she hoped that more journalists will come out in the future and speak out about the abuse of the status given to the News Media in our society.

One thing she said that I found especially interesting was that she was being contacted in secret by many reporters who were telling her they had to toe the Loonie Left’s political line because they feared losing their jobs and feared social ostracism. They were even afraid to contact her directly and took measures to hide the fact they were even talking to her.

It sounded to me like this situation in journalism is the same one we find in modern-day climate science: Toe the line, or get slapped down by powerful forces. The False Reality must be maintained in both journalism and climate science, and to do that, the Elites who promote these False Realities, try to shut down every avenue of dissent by punishing those who don’t see it their way..

This is on the road to Totalitarianism. The first thing totalitarians want to do is shut up their opposition, one way or another. This is the fight we are in right now. The Totalitarians are trying to shut down free speech and we need to shut down the Totalitarians.

Fortunately, at least for the United States, I think the actions of our local Totalitarians are going to turn off so many Americans that Trump may sweep the 2020 elections like Reagan did, winning 49 states in his second election.

The Democrats are their own worst enemy. And thank God for that. Keep it up. Show us just how loony you really are.

Thank God for Trump!

As much as I’d love to see that happen just to stick it to the left-wing totalitarians, it won’t happen. Reagan won California and New York (among other far-left-loony coastal states), there’s no hope of a Republican (let alone Trump) accomplishing that today. While there’s certainly a good chance of Trump winning more states the second time around, it would take a miracle for him to win 49 of them.

I recall the MSM fawning over Macron at the G some number meeting in So. America last year and saying with glee that Macron was laughing at Trump. Upon Macron’s return home, he was met with the Yellow Vests and they have not stopped since. It was reported that, at one point, he had a chopper ready to evacuate him from the Palace. I saw signs the YV’s put up saying, “We want Trump!”.
The MSM have reported as little as possible on the situation in France. If they were accurate about Macron laughing at Trump, I suspect the smile on his face was wiped off very quickly upon his non-triumphant return.

Very true. The problems in France rumble on with the gendarmerie maiming or murdering their own people to a weekly schedule. The last time the BBC reported on it mainstream was just after Christmas (no need to tell me it is on some remote, buried page on their website – how many seek that out?) So far as the population in the UK are concerned the GJs are long gone, their fight lost, the agenda has been chosen for them. My neighbour, recently back from his weekend break in France was astonished to have had his progress blocked by a protest barrière.

Why do you think the EU is seeking its own army and police force? The reasons are internal, not as proclaimed so widely, external and border protection. If this “grand projet” does not disintegrate in the near future, our children, who so admire the EU, will live in serfdom.

Macron said: “It is the long-term European project that is at stake.”

It’s not about the French people, it’s about the “European project”.

That’s the problem with the EU, it takes the focus away from the local people and gives the decision-making power to unelected bureaucrats who rule with the “European project” foremost in their minds.

The EU should be disbanded. It’s bureacrats, including Macron, are creating an adversarial relationship with the United States as a means of solidifying EU power by creating a common enemy. They are creating an enemy where there is none. It’s a means to an end, but the end they get probably won’t be the one they want.

Disband the EU and strengthen NATO. That’s the ticket to a prosperous, safe future.

You’re partly right. Mostly wrong. The Eu countries are so small they much need an economic union, be it EEC or EU. In addition, they need a common foreign policy, a common army be it Nato or not, and a democratic Eu commission instead of the current ivory tower.

The last is of largest significance because it initiates lawmaking in the EU, and currently it is totally undemocratic. But it is the Russian high officials who want the EU to be completely gone. Divide and conquer us their means to have power on the Europe. Energy dominance is one of their tools, WWF and other NGOs of its kind are its unwitting helpers.

I was against the EU at younger age. Now I accept rather a European union than a Russia led Soviet union. Mark my words, we really really need a strong Nato unless we want Putin’s children to rule our children.

Sorry, Hugs, can’t let that go by.
” The Eu countries are so small ” – not sure how you came to that conclusion!
Germany is the fourth largest world economy and depending which set of figures you believe, UK, France and Italy occupy positions five, six and seven.
All we hear is Putin, Russia, Russia, Putin! Russia has an economy slightly larger than that of Spain and were it not for the ridiculous denuclearisation of Germany and EU climate policy there would never have been any need for Russian gas or the accompanying influence.
The EU is an expensive and unnecessary impediment to the economic development of its member states. Membership of a political union has never been necessary for mutually beneficial trade. Countries rarely trade with each other. People trade. Companies trade. There are 150 other independent countries in the world, we don’t see them rushing to form political unions, especially as they watch the EU slowly falling apart. You wish the Commission to be democratised! Yeah, well, that will NEVER EVER happen. Of course they want an army, but not a NATO one. They want it so they are able to control their own “citizens” – the writing is on the wall and they know it.

The majority of the rise ( almost 40% on diesel ) is linked to the war on diesel engines, primarily about NOX and fine particle emissions rather than “climate” as in CO2. Diesel is better petrol/gasoline for CO2 which is why it was favoured until recently.

The real reason is of course the tax revenue , which IIRC was worth an extra 3.5 billion euros a year to the french state coffers.

Time to close down our bases in Germany, Italy, Britain etc. The amount of the military budget spent around the world to maintain the Peace of First World countries is ridiculous.
Hopefully, after his re-election, he will make the deal with N Korea, removing all US troops from the Korean peninsula and Japan, (Less Okinawa, which is a true spoil of war), in exchange for verifiable demilitarization of the north. It is far past time for these countries to defend themselves.

Walter and Drake, I couldn’t disagree more but at least we have common ground on climate change. Why should Americans pay higher taxes on items we might want to buy? Why should we withdraw from the world until we’re surrounded by enemies with no allies? Sure we should force trading partners to play fair, and we should not get involved in half of the hopeless wars to help people who hate us for it. But why swing from one wrong extreme to another?

France proclaims trees should have rights
“A tree is a living organism whose average lifespan is far longer than that of a human being. It should be respected throughout its life and have the right to develop and to reproduce freely, from its birth to its natural death, whether it be a town tree or a country tree. A tree should be considered as a subject of law, including when laws regarding human property are involved.”
This astonishing proclamation of rights is perhaps the most extreme manifestation of anti-speciesism to date, way beyond the demands of animal rights campaigners who are already doing all they can to erase the differences between mankind and the animal world.
Even more remarkably, the “Declaration of tree rights” was adopted in a meeting room of the French National Assembly in Paris last Friday.

Wish one could just dispel this as a lunatic fringe, but they are completely serious.

Interview: Maurice Strong on a “People’s Earth Charter”

But, let us be very clear, the UN action is not going to be the only goal. The real goal of the Earth Charter is that it will in fact become like the Ten Commandments, like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It will become a symbol of the aspirations and the commitments of people everywhere. And, that is where the political influence, where the long-term results of the Earth Charter will really come.

Why should trees have legal rights? It’s second nature
Published June 1, 2018
An extraordinary legal revolution is unfolding around the world. Last month, in a historic ruling, Colombia’s Supreme Court declared that the Amazon is a legal person with rights − to be protected, conserved and restored − and ordered the state to reduce deforestation.
This past year alone, from India to New Zealand, four rivers, two glaciers and a sacred mountain have been granted legal personhood. The Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared that the regional human-rights treaty protects the rights of the environment as such. U.S. municipalities are joining in.
The idea is not new. In 1972, American law scholar Christopher Stone penned a visionary essay, Should Trees Have Standing?, in which he proposed granting nature rights. Justice William Douglas of the U.S. Supreme Court agreed. In a famous dissent, he argued that nature, or anyone who speaks for it, should have its day in court.

Maurice Strong opened Earth Summit I with a “Declaration of the Sacred Earth,” accompanied by “indigenous” animist Earth worship ceremonies — standard practice at UN convocations. The Charter says protecting Earth is our “sacred trust.”Dr. Rockefeller is a leading advocate of the radical “biocentrism,” under which, he says, “the rights of nature are defended first and foremost on the grounds of the intrinsic value of animals, plants, rivers, mountains, and ecosystems” against “human oppression.” Biocentrists believe that humans are no more important than other life forms or natural objects. Of course, rocks, trees, and ecosystems speak in words only understood by enlightened souls like Rockefeller and company, who have assigned themselves the noble task of defending these “rights of nature.”

Trees are under far greater danger from the Green AGW/CC nuts than ever from loggers who, by the way, replant as they cut. Obviously, nothing is going to be replanted where they put windmills and, as in the Amazon and other forests in Brazil, for one, they are replanted the forests with sugar cane.

Apart from bureaucratic trashing the very basis of a Frenchman’s diet (butter supply & pricing) – think about all the new speed limits and attendant cameras that Macron has put up around France.

Oh, they’re for ‘safety’ and fuel economy.

So Macron is telling everyone that they are fuel guzzling & reckless.
Nice, that’s how to make friends.
Consider you are A Trucker – now limited to 80kph (50mph) instead of 100kph (60mph)
That means you need 6 days to do the work you did in 5 days previously.
But all the costs (insurance, road tax, driver’s wages, depreciation of the vehicle) associated with trucking and vehicle ownership accrue on a daily basis – not a mileage basis.
All those costs are subject to tax.

Macron needs Climate Change because it is a Cash Cow and he is broke.
UK, Germany and France were the only serious net contributors into ‘The EU’
Now we see why he’s being so pig awkward about letting the UK out – especially as Germany has done an economic variation of Hari Kiri via Dieselgate and EngyWendy

Hence with UK out of the picture via Brexit and German industry wrecked, France alone will be left to hold the EU together economically
In a way you could feel sorry for him really.

Sadly the Germans are utterly hidebound by guilt & political correctness and a desperate need to appease the rest of the World for being the starters of 2 wars – because if they’re in ANY way associated with setting off a third war Germany will be simply erased from every map there ever was and ever will be.
And they know it.

THAT is the root of EngyWEndy – appeasement = a desperate urge & need to be seen to be ‘liked’, to be ‘good’
Its a device that ALWAYS goes wrong
and so it is

Curious:
UK schoolchildren are only eating every other day
https://news.sky.com/story/child-poverty-teachers-report-some-pupils-not-eating-for-two-days-11693413

Makes *perfect* sense, UK and Europe import 50% of their food
Neat huh – ain’t we soooo adaptable in this Never Better World – or is it a case of rats eating (the children of) other rats?

Have just vaguely/slightly/probably wrongly recalled something even more curious – a supposed ‘Release Fee’ or ‘Divorce Settlement’ that UK was going to be liable for if/when Brexit happens.

As I remember, it was plus minus 4 or 5 billion£, (that’d be = the lawyers bill) the size of the fine levied on VW.

coincidence eh

your recall isn’t too bad:

https://www.businessinsider.com/theresa-may-brexit-speech-florence-2017-9

The PM did not state a specific figure for the divorce bill in her speech but has reportedly opened the door to Britain paying between €20-40bn to the EU after it leaves in 2019, in a commitment that is already angering Brexit-supporting Conservative MPs.

I wonder if the Brexit was not in part caused by the former French President Hollande, particularly when he spoke just before the UK vote, saying an idiotic thing such as “that he knew who were to win – anti Brexit in his closed little mind – because Brittains are smart enough …”.

Hollande was such an exasperating idiotic politician that any mentally healthy individual be it French or not, would do anything to no longer have to deal with this moron and his devastating politics … and Macron is even worse.

Macron needs the tax. France’s debt will bring down the EU. We are being taxed to oblivion

Mind blowing. That all you critics and disses of Macron’s moves to address the dreadful damage done to our global climate by continuing with the status quo, and to resist Trump’s poisonous policies, can actually write such drivel. It will be all your descendants that pay the price for your short termist greed. Grow up, take responsibility and resist the burgeoning fascist rhetoric and actions of Trump and other right wing morons! Just look at the damage we’ve already suffered in the UK as a result of Brexit, which resulted from lies told by similarly greedy and manipulative rhetoric. I urge you:THINK!!

“dreadful damage”
As a homework assignment, create a list of “dreadful damage” that did not occur before, say 1850.

When that’s complete, come back and we can discuss your work.

When you are alive more than 20 years – you find scary doom stories you learned in elementary school never come to pass. My years were global cooling concerns and the lack of energy to cover it. By 1991 the US would run out of oil (I know it was only the peak – but that was translated to kid’s as run out) by 2000 if we weren’t destroyed by Reagan’s nuke war (which never happened) we would run out of food and mineral resources by 2000. Never happened – in fact we have more of everything than ever before. Then of course we started getting global warming threats (1998 was the big start) and sob stories how we should use Natural gas but sadly it was running out (Remember T Noon Pickens plan to enrich himself with government funds? Windmills for NG) that NG was 30 better than other fuels. Never happened – and now that we have plenty eco nuts are trying to demonize the once glorious NG. Turns out we have a bunch of people who have people and will do anything to hurt people while pretending it is for our good. They also are afraid of freedom and capitalism and prefer central control of everything.

There is no CO2 issue just another scare. Yeah eventually the sun will swallow the earth and probably we will all be doomed by a SMOD – but it won’t be CO2 or even modern farming that destroys the planet.

Damage? Diminishing unemployment, wage increases greater than inflation and , throughout and despite all the shambles and can-kicking of the Brexit negotiations the UK stock market continued to flourish.

Let me guess, you are either in junior high school or are a liberal arts major (the educational kevel us about the same, today). Get a degree in a hard science, then come back and present logical arguments supported by actual data (computer model output is not ‘data’) to support your position.

Or else add a sarcasm tag to your comment.

Macron is only defend the agreement with such strength because its the Paris agreement , the French have a very big chip indeed over what they see slight to their pride from English become a world wide language in a way France has not and the manner in which the USA has massively left them behind over IT, trade ,science etc, etc.
The ‘Paris agreement’ was seen as way for the country to get back its rightful place has world leading .

“if there was a scale of hypocrisy it would be the Macron scale.” Of course ! In France, we are ashamed of Macron – we call him “Micron”, “moron” is better, but only in english ! – and we know that his election was a true coup with the scandalous eviction of the right wing candidate Fillon to have face to face the stupid Marine Le Pen and Micron. Micron is eurocrats’ puppy ! And the yellow vests know that ! He is always doing to tarnish France. We hope his resignation and then the frexit to recover our freedom and to go out the EU, this jail of the european nations!

I wish you bonne chance with frexit. It is my affection for Europe that makes me a foe of the anti-democratic EU.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if the elites in Westminster find that they nullified democracy only to have the French collapse the core of the project?

Macron: a would-be Napoleon in diapers and a pacifier in his mouth. I’m reminded of this Bugs Bunny cartoon:

https://youtu.be/sunc4xITqj0

The US is one of the very few countries that is reducing CO2 emissions (though unnecessarily), and is the only country that is also enjoying a robust economy.

April 14, 2019 7:27 am

Canada’s Left is just as weird.
One of PM Trudeau’s arguments against pipeline construction is that construction workers have “toxic masculinity”. This would upset communities near pipeline projects.
The overall Left prevents pipelines from Alberta to the East Coast, preferring that oil tankers to that benighted region will continue to threaten the pristine waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
However, new pipelines to the West Coast are not allowed because more tankers would threaten the pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean.

The 75th Anniversary of D-day Normandy is coming June, 6th and Macron and Trump will most likely be sharing a stage for the event along with other European leaders. Now as then, the US holds by far the heaviest economic hammer and the use of that hammer will determine the fate of the largest European economies in the coming years. The Europeans are negotiating from a position of weakness. Their socialist economies are limping along with investment dollars that once flowed into their economies instead flowing into the US because of the much greater potential for return on investment. The pressure is only going to get worse for them and here we see Macron biting at the ankle of the nation that will have the most significant role in determining the economic future of France. https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2019/04/12/g20-to-trump-all-our-economies-are-belong-to-you/

I don’t think most Americans realize just how great the transition has been on the world economic front since Trump took office. They don’t know because the general press isn’t informing them and works hard to cast every shadow they can on this Administration. But their deceptions do not change the hard facts that the EU, Japan, and China are now operating in a world where the balance of economic power has been shifting to the US because of this administrations tough stances on trade and that all indications are that shift will continue.

The Macron scale of hypocrisy: Is that a linear or a logarithmic scale? We need to decide!

From another point of view, if Macron doesn’t like the EU negotiating tariffs with the US he is free to lead the French in a “Frexit”. Maybe we can invent something catchier. He probably wouldn’t do that however because the Brits did it first – nothing is more humiliating to a Frenchman that admitting that the English did it first!
