My bevvy of climate zealot detractors often say that I’m washed up, and that “nobody reads WUWT anymore”. I recently got a piece of hate mail saying essentially that, so I decided to check. It’s been awhile since I did.

Really good point Carl. The articles are almost always interesting, educational and telling me stuff that I didn’t know. But the comments are just as important for me because the majority of them come from scientists and people with long experience in other fields. They are not only instructive but also very entertaining and on those occasions when we are all getting a bit too po-faced about something there is usually a laugh-out-loud moment to bring all back down to earth.
The thing about WUWT is that Anthony and his team have created a collegiate experience here but one that welcomes opposing views, too. This blog post also is not afraid to speak truth to power. Well done Anthony – and thank you.

I think that’s what attracted me here in the early days. No echo chamber here. I always loved the ”back and forth” of a dispute between differing views and opinions.

I find it appalling that “skepticalscience.com” ranks so much higher than sites like Judith Curry’s.
I wouldn’t put it past the SS kidz to be running bots to pad their stats.
Don’t forget that they’ve got people on the national stage like Alexanria Donkey Chompers plugging them now. That pulls in a lot of True Believers.
I think it’s safe to say that the “Climate Change” movement has completely made the transition to Religious Cult. They don’t even try to make a scientific case about it anymore; it’s all about FEELS. And if you criticize them, you’re Racist. Just because.
You only have to look at the miniscule volume of comments to understand that much like everything else at SS the view count is a flat-out lie.
Google search global warming or climate change + any related topic and you will find skeptical [sic] science near the top of the general and/or images pages.
The name is misleading and people find out when they log into the site.

In fact, I find that with almost any website that has the word “skeptic” at the forefront. If they truly were, they wouldn’t need to even use the word at all.

Agreed, Kip. The WUWT site has a community feeling with numerous contributions from true experts no matter what the field.
As generalists will affirm, an overview of how the world really works is the greatest education for learning more about how the world really works in detail.
Imagine how much better the education is here compared with taking the “Environment” course at the University of Waterloo.
Which Environment course? How about a degree in Geography and Aviation?
Sometimes you can bump up the enrollment in a program by giving it a sexy name. Architectural Engineering draws about twice the number of students as it did when it was named Civil Engineering. I suspect that some courses and programs added “Environmental” to the name to make them sound sexier.
And it is the first class inputs from authors like Kip that help keep the discussions rational, thoughtful and productive. A big thanks to Kip also!!

Nowadays I don’t google to find out what’s the opinion of the world. Rather, I google to find out what leftists think about it. The good question to pose to centrists and the right wing is, how come leftism has become so ubiquitous ideology in western countries?
Climate logs link to alarmists around, and they are invariably favouring a group of other ideologues including certain kind of feminism, certain kind of xenophilia, big government, pro LGBTQ, pro abortion people, pro Islamists, anti GMO and anti nuclear power people, pro NGO where NGO is any of (WWF, Greenpeace, FoE etc), pro Earth Day (started Apr 22 1970, the 100th anniversary of Lenin)…
I mean the picture is clear. Communists in disguise of social justice have finally got us. People who believe in small government, markets, freedom of choice and opinion are being defunded, deplatformed, chased out and leaving universities to mobs of brainwashed totalitarians who want to abolish democracy. And national broadcasting companies in western countries are all cheering up to this development. They get their pay from the government and play their little socialism game on expense of others.
What can we do when social justice campaigning has taken over employees at FB, Twitter, Google including Youtube, all medias from ABC, BBC, CBC, to NPR? They all push the identical, fake news infested environmental policy embedded in identity politics and sick autoracial hate. The Atlas may shrug, but where the Atlas could go?

Two observations.
One, imagine the traffic if Gargle weren’t actively engaged in biasing searches way from WUWT.
Two, I’d be willing to bet that a significant portion of the traffic to some of those sites is purely entertainment/curiosity on the part of WUWT regular readers.

What I like is not only the quality of the commenters, but the fact that if a comment is polite, but disagrees, they are allowed to stay. It keeps us on our toes, and we keep in touch with what people who disagree with us think.
I wonder if some of those other site’s bad scores are a result of blocking people from asking legitimate questions. It would be fun to make a list of all the legitimate questions that have gotten people banned from these sites, and post them for people to use to see which sites can handle dissent.

As one Marine who sailed the oceans via the US Navy and flew around some phenomenal climate events…Mt. Etna volcano eruption, the Kuwait oil fires of Desert Storm and such, I was always a skeptic of anything man was capable of doing to alter the earth or climate on a grand scale or permanent basis….as few have any idea of the vast expanse of this earth. If the hundreds of oil wells burning millions of barrels of raw oil a day did not create a significant change to the climate almost immediately…I have cannot imagine cars and power plants, even over a period of time, doing much.
Finding WUWT was a fantastic addition to my understanding of the reports and claims related to climate change. I am sure I am one of many who sincerely appreciate the web site, the articles presented and the commentary by the “learned class”….everyone, please keep it up.

As the Climate Wars have progressed through the years, especially throughout the ‘dark years’ of the previous presidential administration here in the US of A, I have found your site to be a constant beacon of truth, sound science, and at times the sole outlet for accuracy and honesty in a veritable sea of lies and obfuscation. As I witnessed the steady decline of my local newspaper into a leftist quagmire, I found myself drawn evermore to this site. Although the recent death of my parents and accompanying estate issues has kept me from reading and posting as much as previously, I can always count on this site to provide scientific sanity when it is most needed.

If I can go back in time a bit (really easy for me to do, I’m that old), when Climategate broke there was a huge increase in readership of many sites. I expected that all of them would see a fall off as the story aged, and that pretty much happened – except for WUWT. That was when WUWT’s readership ranking soared (yeah, yeah, the Kardashians score a lot higher) and became the go-to place for a lot of new readers.
The credit goes to Anthony and his experience as a TV met, his sense for delivering a popular,yet factual product, and his moderate tolerance of trolls and insulting people here. By the time people get banned, pretty much everyone agrees they should have been banned weeks ago.
I read you from France, with a great pleasure. Unfortunately, I live in the worst alarmist country where the propaganda is developed by all means from the state’s institutions (we have nuclear plants to sell…).

Over the last five or six years I have learnt more from WUWT than from any other site, partly because of the choice of articles and authors but, also, because so many of those who post here, who are not themselves climate scientists or even scientists, have a depth of knowledge and expertise in one, or more, particular aspects of the wide variety of subjects covered by “climate science”. Expertise that no single climate scientist can claim to match. Their scepticism arises from their knowledge that at least one pillar of the wide assumptions upon which CAGW is based does not stand up to rigorous investigation.
I have also enjoyed posts from others for the humour of their contributions. I would also thank Griff and his disciples for setting themselves up as Aunt Sallys. Even though their contributions can be mocked they show that this site, unlike RealClimate, and so many others of that ilk, does not attempt to censor debate.
CAGW has no pillars. I have recently shown that the Keeling curve is fraudulent. The next pillar to fall will be the last one and actually is the 1st one, the Vostok ice core record.

Having some good trustworthy friends is a blessing. WUWT is such a friend to me. I am in awe of your effort, Anthony, and of the team around you.
Years back experiencing the slow but steady degradation of the “quality media” it felt for me like a personal experience in isolation. Was it just me?
No, it was not. Your site was the first to learn me my observations made sense and I was not the only one having them.
For me science starts with curiosity, good observation, honesty and open discussion. These are qualities I see in you and on your site, so there you are!
What bothers me most about Google is they claim they have no liability for the prurient and vulgar material they pump through their networks because they have no control what goes through – they’re just a pipe. With their insistence and intention to act as free speech’s filter, they edit content through their networks, they should be subject to liability for the sick material they do let through.
This just shows that rational people like facts, data and robust debate, while climate change enthusiasts continue to operate on fact-free emotion, the way religious cults always have.
