The perils of CO2 in space spawn a down to Earth solution

Astronaut Scott Kelly had and idea while dealing with problems caused by CO2 while on the International Space Station (ISS).

This truly is an amazing application of a far out idea. Video follows.

BTW, Astronaut Kelly has some further insight here.

I am praying that this is an April fools joke, but it is hard to tell. 😉

Yeah. Definitely.
I’m pleased that they got someone to make a professional looking video though.

No it’s not hard to tell at all. Actually, it’s a brilliant sneaky way for Soda Stream to sneak in a commercial. On further reflection, I’m kind of grossed out.

Absolutely hilarious!
Of course it has to be a prank.

It is a partly a prank. Left out is that one needs to buy the CO2 cartridges to make flavored sodas at home. Some nice extra revenue for Kelly though.

All the best April Fools jokes are the ones that seem just about plausible! The “Snoring Adapter” is PERFECT!

And San Francisco residents are eligible for a special “Methane-Me”, a CH4 capture system.
Just insert the capture nozzle in the applicable orifice after a bean and burrito meal, and viola!:Methane-entrained water.
Methane-water, always refreshing after that intimate session with 40 or so partners that night. In addition you’ll be saving the planet from that nasty methane-GHG.

Thought it was satire.

It’s a joke. But, as an idea, it’s much better than fellow astronaut and twin, Mark Kelly’s recent ramblings. He is a climatista and aspiring totalitarian.

If you look at the earth as it’s usually shown, the manned missions all orbit from left to right. Like daylight savings time it makes the 2 hr days seem longer. Of course, none of this makes any real difference and the astronauts don’t get any more work done. It just feels that way, and we all know feelings are the most important things on earth, or in space.

Fortunately, at the end of the day they all get it right.

AND…a gun grabber, even though he was “caught” buying a dreaded “black assault rifle” and a 1911 pistol in Tucson, AZ!

Breitbart News received a tip on this when Neil McCabe, editor of Guns
& Patriots newsletter, contacted us on March 7 and said:

“Mark E. Kelly, made purchases which included an AR-15–sometimes
described as an ‘assault rifle’–at 3:30 pm on the afternoon of March 5
at Diamondback Police Supply, 170 S. Kolb Street, Tucson, AZ.”

According to McCabe, witnesses to the purchases claimed Kelly purchased ‘high capacity’ magazines as well.

“On March 6, McCabe contacted Kelly’s gun control group–‘Americans for
Responsible Solutions’–and on March 8 they replied that his message had
been passed on to colleagues who handle press requests. Breitbart News
then began investigating the details surrounding the purchase, including
visiting the gun store.”

“Suddenly, Kelly announced on his Facebook page that he was not going to
keep the AR-15, which he has yet to pick up from the store.”

“Days after making the purchases, Kelly wrote on Facebook:

‘I just had a background check a few days ago when I went to my local
gun store to buy a .45. As I was leaving, I noticed a used AR-15. Bought
that too. Even to buy an assault weapon, the background check only
takes a matter of minutes. <b?I don't have possession of it yet but I'll be
turning it over to the Tucson PD when I do.'"

Love his last sentence!

He and his wife, Gabby Giffords currently host a web site dedicated to disarming the American population!

Sure he’ll just turn over an expensive rifle; I’d like to see a video of that. What about the .45? Just another hypocrite.

In 2008 when she was campaigning for election to the House of Representatives, Gabby Giffords attended the annual Helldorado Parade in Tombstone, AZ. She was approached by a couple, staunch democrats, who asked how she felt about guns. “I always carry mine”, and she displayed what appeared to be a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. They voted for her.
We were neighbors – sit on their patio and have a couple of beers several times a week. They didn’t relate their experience until after Ms Giffords was shot. I grant that being a victim can alter a persons outlook, but to go completely ‘anti-gun’ is going too far…..

We need a ‘MethaneStreamMe’ (NaturalGasMe?) also, as it will serve not just humans but the much larger market of ruminants (beef and dairy cattle, buffalo, deer, etc). A recent poll of ruminants asked the question “If you had a ‘MethaneStreamMe’ device available, would you use it?” The overwhelming response was “Yes, because we cud.”

Mark Kelly went from astronaut hero to whack job when his wife was shot by a lunatic (OK, give the guy a little slack). However, his assault on the Second Amendment is out of place due to his swearing to “protect and defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign or domestic”. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to protect the citizens against a tyrannical government. So what does he do? Propose tyranny!

My theory is that CO2 in drinks, ingested and held for as long as possible, some of it gets into the bloodstream to harden and densify bones. SodaStream is a path to skeletal success.

Up, vertebrates!

That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

There are a lot of very hard carbide ceramics, e.g. tungsten carbide.

I’m sorry to say that if you’re hoping to make calcium carbide, you better talk to an old underground coal miner. If there are any!

I need one! I just moved to a house with two unvented propane space heaters for its primary heating. I bought a CO2 meter before the home inspection and measured some 2,000 ppm CO2. After a really cold night (I’m in New Hampshire), I measured 3,000 ppm. Right now it’s 1,657 ppm. (+/- 70 ppm and a percentage of the reading.)

I’m thinking they need to be replaced with a pair of mini-split heat pumps. I’m not going to use them next winter!

Nah…keep them a little longer. Wait til the Co2 hits 4000 PPM and then watch a rerun of “Das Boat”
The sound of the popping rivets will seem even more realistic

We use an unvented propane fireplace as our only heating source. Sent through some -10F n ight this past winter, so the firplace stays well cranked up! Our indoor humidity stays around 40%. We have no CO&#8322 monitor, except for my wife’s indoor plants. They LOVE the environment, like it’s a tropical paradise!

Considering our US Navy allows CO&#8322 levels on nuclear submarines to reach 10,000 ppm (1%) with no known effect, harmful or otherwise, on the crew, I don’t see how your 3,000 ppm levels could be causing you any harm! Buy a bunch of indoor plants, and I guarantee you’ll soon have a jungle Tarzan and Cheeta would be proud of!

For one thing, I don’t like the combustion smell (probably some NOx, haven’t read up on it.

Also, I like it cool in summer. Hence the heat pumps.

My favourite was the first one I saw on TV. It was broadcast by the BBC Panorama program in 1957. Panorama was a very serious documentary program in the days when the BBC actually tried to inform and not propagandise. It was not frivolous entertainment like 60 Minutes. It’s most authoritative commentator was Richard Dimbleby. He narrated a story about how a milder than usual winter and an early spring had led to a bumper spaghetti crop in southern Switzerland.
