Ten ‘inconvenient’ Questions for ‘Climate Industry Entrepreneur of the Year’, Gov. Jay Inslee @jayinslee @govinslee

It’s amazing what some groups can find using the Freedom of Information Act. From the website Government Accountability and Oversight:

As Washington Gov. Jay Inslee comes to Capitol Hill Tuesday to teach us “lessons from across the nation: state and local action to combat climate change”, public records — including some released here for the first time — offer the public a few eye-opening lessons about what Gov. Jay Inslee has been up to.

Ten Questions for Climate Industry Entrepreneur of the Year, Gov. Jay Inslee

Gov. Inslee, public records demonstrate your remarkable entrepreneurial spirit, unique in the Climate Industry. This manifests itself in, e.g., the serial announcement of ‘groups’ that, while they generally do not in fact exist (they are websites), do somehow have millions of dollars worth of consultants, lawyers and report-writers to promote your ‘leadership’ on a matter you have adopted as your signature issue.

Sometimes the money is from donors — e.g., the multi-million dollar websites “US Climate Alliance” and Governors Climate Alliance — and sometimes the money is taken from taxpayers — “Pacific Coast Collaborative” and the the campaign to tell the “West Coast Story”.

Always, however, these enterprises are dedicated to promoting Gov. Jay Inslee’s climate ‘leadership’, with lots of staff, public relations and other and consultants. Indeed, they seem to be dedicated to promoting Jay Inslee, “his climate profile” and his ambitions.

Public records show that you have contracted out your office as a consultant for an environmentalist pressure group, World Resources Institute (WRI), in at least two agreements providing hundreds of thousands of dollars of private underwriting for your use of the Office of the Governor.

These consulting arrangements include for you to use the Office of Governor “to perform those services described” for the client — specifically to “[t]ake forward new and existing policies” among other prescribed climate activism (Contract Number K2154); and, to engage in more advocacy as Governor on “issues and communications related to climate and clean energy policy development” (Contract Number K2575).

Public records also show that your Office is transferring hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in taxpayer money, including apparently a quarter of a million Washington State taxpayer dollars, to pay consultants also to promote your climate advocacy and platform (Contract Number K2191).

This entrepreneurship, unique even in the norm-busting Climate Industry, would be newsworthy in any year. It is particularly so this year. Your honored position, having your own panel before the powerful House Energy & Commerce Committee, affirms this.

Given this very deliberate and indeed unprecedented record of “profile-building”, these very same issues for which you have contracted the Governor’s office as a vendor, re-routed taxpayer money, and recruited donor funds to be routed through a non-profit, we have a few important questions, the answers to which should be of great public interest:

  1. Do you see any campaign finance-related or ethics issues with running donor money through a non-profit to develop and promote what turns out to have been your national “profile”?
  2. If not, is there something unique about your relationship with the Hewlett Foundation and United Nations Foundation, which provided these benefits for your climate policy campaigning? (e.g., Contract K2575; also, the US Climate Alliance your staff organized to be run out of the UN Foundation with, so far, at least $1,435,000 from Hewlett Foundation)
  3. Same questions, but about policy groups coordinating these donor efforts with your Office?
  4. Do you see any campaign-finance-related or ethics issues with contracting out one’s public office as a consultant to, e.g., the National Rifle Association, American Petroleum Institute, or National Right to Life, to “take forward new and existing policies” of interest to those non-profits? If not, is there something unique about your relationship with the Hewlett Foundation? (e.g., Contracts K2154, K2575)
  5. Do you see any campaign-finance-related or ethics issues with running taxpayer money through a consultancy to to develop and promote what turns out to have been your national “profile”? (e.g., Contract K2191)?
  6. What is the functional difference between what your US Climate Alliance partner Gov. Andrew Cuomo is under FBI investigation for doing, and what you are doing in redirecting at least a quarter million dollars of Washington State taxpayer money from various agencies’ budgets via Contract K2191? From the public record, the sole distinction appears to be that you are arranging for taxpayer money to pay non-state employees (consultants to promote your climate efforts), as opposed to paying in-office staff (Cuomo).
  7. Do you see it as an appropriate use of tax-exempt status for any non-profit policy group to contract with donors to hire non-staff ‘staff’ for elected officials? To allow donors to finance use of the non-profit’s staff to run an elected official’s advocacy campaign? Or, is there something unique about your relationship with the United Nations Foundation, which contracted with the Hewlett Foundation to finance the hiring of ‘staff’ for, subcontracting its own staff for, and running your “US Climate Alliance” with donor funding?
  8. Do you see it as an appropriate use of tax-exempt status for any activist donor group to directly provide six-figure report-writing services to elected officials, and the public relations services to promote them? Or is there something unique about your relationship with the Hewlett Foundation which provided these benefits for your climate policy campaigning?
  9. That is, do you see any campaign-finance-related or ethics issues with a public office-holder contracting out his office as a consultant by which, e.g., the National Rifle Association, American Petroleum Institute, or National Right to Life, hire, pay for and place an advisor in the elected official’s office?
  10. Your staff informed the Wall Street Journal editorial board that there was “no direct relationship to WA” between Hewlett Foundation money run through WRI and payment for your climate policy advisor, Reed Schuler. Your office copied your Policy Director Keith Phillips on the email. However, numerous public records show Mr. Phillips specifically boasted about Hewlett’s behind-the-scenes involvement in arranging for the placement and payment of your in-office climate policy advisor. Do you stand by the statement that your Office was unaware of the source of the funding, and/or that Hewlett was not in fact the source of activist funding of your policy “staff”?

You can bet THAT set of questions won’t show up in the Seattle Times in its fawning pieces praising our oh-so-conscious Governor.

That’s true but he has to run for re-election. Maybe he has wider horizons in view, nationally. Anyway, he will have political enemies and they will find ways to use these questions. If he’s seen to be corrupt, he can garner the same kind of hate that lost the presidency for HRC. Hmm, HRC, like HRM. Maybe that’s how she thought of herself. Anyway, chickens come home to roost.

Yes they are, Realisnatwork. Do you think it’s a coincidence that the “allegations” of Biden’s inappropriate behavior towards women are coming out now, while he’s considering running for President? Any old white dude in the running will be hit with allegations of some transgression or another sooner or later, that’s the way the party of the far-left operates. There’s no way the far-left loonies are going to settle for an old white dude as their candidate.

These practices are not unique to the climate industry. There is virtually no incentive for government to actually solve issues because then said lawyers, consultants, friends, etc. lose income and opportunity.

The Media and legislatures are in bed together. Back in 1989, when California was considering precedent-setting legislation to define and ban “assault weapons,” a local TV station announced that by calling a given telephone number, one could obtain written material about the pending legislation and the reasons why it was desirable. I decided that it would be interesting to see just what kind of propaganda was being sent to the public. When I called, the woman answering the phone indicated that I had reached the office of an East Bay county (Alameda, as I recollect) supervisor who had a reputation of being anti-gun. I was taken back a little and then explained I had called to obtain the material promoted on the TV ‘news’ station. The woman explained that I had reached the right number. She said it was a new phone and she wasn’t used to answering it, so she automatically answered it the way she did normally for the supervisor. I called a cop friend who was also a pro-Second Amendment advocate and explained what had happened. He called the number. This time she answered correctly. However, when he inquired if it was the supervisor’s office, she admitted that it was. I called the news station with what I thought would be an important news story for the public, namely that a public employee was using his tax-payer supported office and staff to support advocacy for pending legislation. The reporter at the TV station thanked me for the information and said that she would check. She got back to me a few minutes later and said that my information was wrong! I was naive 30 years ago.

Fighting climate change.? The reality is that the climate change we are experiencing today is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control. Despite the hype, there is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rationale to support the idea that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero. The optimum global climate is undefined so even if we could change the climate, we do not know what to change the climate to. If we could stop climate change altogether, extreme weather events and sea level rise would continue unabated because they are part of the current climate. So there is no know benefit to stopping Mother Nature as she gradually changes global climate. Most likely the current interglacial period and the next ice age may take hold but that may be thousands of years away.

I thought Deception Pass was named after the tide, was there once when a Kayak turned over, but they survived. Happened to run across a list once that showed all counties in NW Washington as sanctuaries, except the one with the air base. Given what is currently going on at the Texas border, maybe we could send some up to climb their fences and swim their waters. Based on limited exposure, it’s otherwise a great and interesting state.

In Canada, in order to deflect from the Willson-Raybould SNC scandal, the Trudeau government and its obliging media poodle CBC go full monty on a “leaked” government climate report that shows Canada is warming, just the week Trudeau imposes a federal carbon tax…

Interestingly enough, some of the authors of this ad-hoc report are among the climate scientists who visited Trudeau a few years ago… And came out fully satisfied. Sure… https://changingclimate.ca/CCCR2019/

Regarding fake green charities in Canada and their political influence, the history in British Columbia and in Alberta is edifying thanks to Vivian Krause research: https://fairquestions.typepad.com/rethink_campaigns/

No Canadian government has done anything significant about this. Harper’s Conservatives asked CRA to investigate yet after 5 years, not much was achieved… And Trudeau managed to keep all of these green charities off the hook, just in time for the upcoming 2019 Federal Election campaign.

TomRude, I found it interesting that the Canada’s Changing Climate Report (CCCR) was “leaked” by the CBC, the same day that the federal carbon tax went into effect. Sort of like the Liberal Party is trying to justify their new carbon tax. It looks like the CCCR is worst case scenarios, based on IPCC models.

And also funny is the seasonal timing: they would not dare releasing this “report” when it is minus 30 C in the Prairies or when Vancouver experienced its coldest February since 1937…
The report itself is a shameful collection of mixed projections and reality. For instance in the executive summary, they dare presenting page 15 a RCP 8.5 projection of sea level rise, which for Vancouver would be 50 to 75 cm while the tide gauge is showing barely 3 cm in the last 100 years!
They do show the tide gauges in the sea level chapter but only in the depth of the report…comment image
The bottom line is that these authors have produced a report in order to justify their jobs: it is biased, laughable and as usual avoids any serious reference to understanding of lower tropospheric circulation. It is all cute color graphics i.e. IPCC agitprop.

Item 4: Not sure I understand this. Are they saying the National Rifle Association, American Petroleum Institute, or National Right to Life orgs are paying consulting fees to Inslee’s campaign? Or has Inslee funded consultants to lobby the NRA, API, and NRL?

Item 5 would seem to be a direct breach of campaign finance laws and deliberate misappropriation of taxpayer funds. Cycling taxpayer funds through a consulting agency demonstrates intent to commit fraud. No?

Re: Item 4
As Letsgoviking said, those are equivalent examples that climate alarmist would be up in arms over if a republican/”denier” were to be found engaging in. It’s done to highlight the hypocrisy. If Inslee finds those examples as being ethical or campaign-finance-related problems (And I’m guessing it wouldn’t be too hard to find excepts of him railing against such things in regards to organizations like those named) then he’d need to explain why his situation is different.

Imagine if Trump had a shill come forward, “leaking” a story that Trump funnelled taxpayer money to favorable groups, who promoted him. The entire media would have a clown circus, collectively losing their minds in demanding his removal from office. It would be several days before anyone on the Left noticed that the situation actually described one of their own. By the time they figured out it was a set-up they’d be too far down the path to walk it back.

I hope no one is induced to think that the United National Foundation is any part of the United Nations.

Have a look at Wikipedia about what the UNF is, and is not. It is without doubt, one of the oddest organisations in Washington. Check who is on the Board. Do they file accounts as an NGO? What appears in those accounts?

How is it possible that a project within the UNF has a “CEO”? What do they promise people who give them money? What do they deliver? Do they have influence in/at the UN? On behalf of whom?

What is the relationship between the US Ambassador to the UN and the UNF which pays/paid the USA’s membership fees? And what has any of this to do with the Hewlett Foundation? Who the heck is in the HW?

Bewildering.

As a Washingtin State resident, i can assure you Inslee is a buffoon. He speaks poorly and is unable to do much of anything without his extensive support staff. It has been widely known for years that “Sleepy Jay” Inslee has had his sites set on being the POTUS for many years. And, that his partner in crime, “Sideshow Bob” Ferguson intends to inherit the office WA State governor. Which will probably happen because of how deep blue the state has become after the deluge of California refugees we began to absorb in large numbers back in the 90s.
