One of the funniest stats out of COP24 is who is attending
https://www.eco-business.com/news/analysis-which-countries-have-sent-the-most-delegates-to-cop24/

Leading the table at COP24 is Guinea with 406 delegates 🙂

It’s a big trough.

But it is a massive waste of money that could be spent alleviating poverty and disease, or providing clean water and sanitation.

“21 shillings” is one “guinea” in British parlance. It was a unit of money that was not official, but was used to quote prices for luxury goods like race horses. At the time, the British Pound was the official currency. The Pound was 20 Shillings.

Do they still use the Guinea? Is it now 105 pence?

At an art and antiques fair last year in southern England there was one art dealer whose prices were all expressed in guineas. This is unusual nowadays though.

“Leading the table at COP24 is Guinea with 406 delegates”

…and that is 86 fewer than last year. Unbelievable waste of time and money. I’ll bet no more than a dozen actually attend, while the others are off touring Poland and Europe.

Christian Aid are there mincing on about CO2 and consequential climate change. WTF???? This is an obscene waste of money given to them specifically to alleviate poverty NOT to send disgusting self important bureaucratic pigs on another noses in the troff jolly!

I am not surprised by the size of the delegations from African countries because the UN pays for travel and provides a stipend to delegates from poor countries.

Who has 3+ hours to watch a rather boring presentation.

This isn’t going to change any minds. It is presented in such a manner that the information is hard to access. A written presentation is much more effective because a written presentation much easier to precis and much easier for interested parties to dig into and extract useful information.

I watched 24 minutes. Good night.

Agreed, I only managed 10 minutes.

This also one of the reasons why COP is a pointless waste of taxpayers money. If it was actually about science and policy then everybody could put written presentations on a website. That would eliminate travel and be a better way of getting the information across.

OTOH,
So far I have watched over and hour and will certainly return to watch the remaining 2 hours+.
It is not often that countervailing arguments have been presented with such clear and effective data.
For the reason that you are not likely to see a better compendium of recent arguments that are counter to the Establishment ones, you all have a duty of care to benefit from a study of this material. Geoff

Totally agree. Need to get the hard copy or a good download of their latest.
Heartland has received a great deal of Greenblob flak over the years.

22,771 registered participants at COP24

Why can’t they just video their speeches and put them on the internet with discussion forum ?
It would save a fortune.

But think of all the time required to delete 97% of the discussion because it doesn’t support the narrative!

No they have the gender action plan, Wealth Inequalities and the Minorities Fellowship programme to talk about.

As if CAGW wasn’t already struggling and up against it, they thought they would link in a few more causes to make sure it really sank like a brick 🙂

I like the sense of humour displayed by their Polish hosts who have put display cages of coal around the meeting foyer to remind the gabfest participants what is keeping them warm while they talk themselves into an hysterical frenzy.
Of course they don’t like looking at real energy and delegates are moaning about all the coal. The pathetic BBC’s serial dissembler David Shukman w3nt down a coal mine to film scenes of Polish miners at work and was clearly uncomfortable in an environment where demanding physical labour in hard conditions was being performed. Surprisingly the BBC lapsed and even allowed one of the miners to give a perfectly sensible explanation that coal mining didn’t just provide jobs in the pits but also many other industries depended on coal. I can only assume Shukman must have been uninvolved in the final edit and would otherwise have left out the “deplorable” sensible comment.

The most shocking stat was this jamboree is lasting two weeks!!
22,000 + delegates at a venue for two weeks!
I will do some cross checking to see how many of the attendee countries particularly those who are mass attendees such as Guinea are also recipients of British Foreign Aid.
I am not sure my blood pressure will take it.

Best take a handful of blood pressure tablets now……….

According to one estimate, at a cost of over $40,000 per delegate!

If you want a real laugh I can also strongly recommend the emissions gap report, I haven’t laughed so much in a good while

My favourite sections were 6.3.3 Political and behavioural factors and the push thru all the sections for a carbon-tax which is about as popular as a good summer crotch rash.

It always makes me crazy when I hear someone (especially someone with a PhD) say 3 times less instead of one third. Otherwise I found it interesting.

what a coup! causing a meltdown at COP24:

6 Dec: ClimateChangeNews: Polish trade union Solidarity rejects climate science consensus
In a joint statement with US denialist think-tank the Heartland Institute, Solidarity expressed scepticism of UN conclusions on the dangers of global warming.
By Chloé Farand for DeSmog UK
A Polish trade union has issued a joint statement with a ***notorious American climate science denial group, rejecting the scientific consensus on climate change.
The statement (LINK), signed by the Chicago-based Heartland Institute and the trade union Solidarity was released as UN climate talks took place in Katowice, the centre of Poland’s coal heartland region of Silesia…

In the statement, the trade union Solidarity and the Heartland Institute express “skepticism of the assertions of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that the world stands at the edge of a climate catastrophe”…

The Solidarity-Heartland statement adds that “neither organisation opposes the goal of clean air nor supports the elimination of coal from the world’s energy portfolio” and calls on “an end to the war on science and scientists by powerful state-backed forces”.
It is signed by James Taylor, senior fellow at the Heartland Institute, Jaroslaw Grzesik, the chairman of Solidarity’s energy and mining secretariat and Dominik Kolorz, the president of the Solidarity in the Silesian region…READ ALL

6 Dec: Heartland Institute: PRESS RELEASE: Solidarity, Heartland Institute Sign Historic Climate Communique at COP24
By James Taylor, Jim Lakely
Polish labor union that stood up to the Soviet Bloc and changed the world joins Heartland on front lines of resistance to climate alarmism
KATOWICE, POLAND (December 6, 2018) – The Heartland Institute and representatives of Solidarity, the historic labor union founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa that helped bring down the Iron Curtain, signed a joint statement on Wednesday calling on the United Nations at COP24 to ensure the “restoration of the Scientific Method and the dismissal of ideological dogma at the United Nations.”

The joint statement, created at Solidarity’s prompting and written cooperatively between the two organizations on December 5, was submitted to the UN Conference of the Parties climate conference in Katowice today…READ ALL

That’s the second time Solidarity has stood up to communism in living memory. Didn’t work out so well for the communists last time, let’s hope for the same here.

What do people do all day for 2 weeks at these climate jamborees? Could one of the Heartland people give us an account of activities, attendance, in fact any matters of interest?

Contrary to what was said in the presentation, there is plenty of scientific rationale to support the idea that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is really zero. I also want to point out the the AGW conjecture depends upon the existence of a radiant greenhouse effect in the Earth’s atmosphere caused by trace gases with LWIR absorption bands. Such a radiant greenhouse effect has not been observed in a real greenhouse, in the Earth’s atmosphere, or anywhere else in the solar system for that mater. The radiant greenhouse effect is really nothing but science fiction so hence the AGW conjecture is nothing but science fiction as well.

Why debate their junk science at all? It should be obvious by now that it does not matter what the truth is. It’s not about climate, it’s about absolute POWER over all humanity!

The Bishop of Salisbury leads for the Synod of the Church of England which has decided to disinvest in fossil fuels. Lunatic. He believes thoroughly in the IPCC and that the recent 1.5 degrees paper is being adopted worldwide for action. Neglecting the world’s poor, he looks forward to ‘carbon free’ future. He has to be deluded by someone or something. And hasn’t done any reading on the subject.
