As President of the Family-to-Family Project, I want to thank each and every one of you who have donated, and even those of you who just wished that you had been able to donate, for the immediate urgent relief of those friends and family in the Paradise area who lost their homes and possessions in the horrendous firestorm that was the Camp Fire of 2018.
Thanks to all of you, we raised just over $30,000 in 72 hours — and it has all gone out to help families with their immediate needs. We are no longer asking for or accepting donations. [ If you wish to help the victims of the Camp Fire, I recommend giving to the American Red Cross or the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund.]
There is no way we could have could have raised enough money to replace families’ homes or cars, but we were able to help them with food, shelter, clothing and other urgent day-to-day needs. Your donations are continuing to help them as they get their lives back together. Anthony Watts has been working heroic hours to get help to employees, friends and neighbors.
And now, a word from Anthony Watts, writing from Chico, California:
First I want to thank Kip Hansen for setting this up. He did so without being asked or even without my knowledge, and his effort has been a true humanitarian gesture. As many of you have already heard, my employees were directly affected. Two lost their homes completely, and one of those two had all of her family members (mother, sister, ex-husband) lose their homes. One employee home has damage, and won’t be able to return for weeks, another was evacuated, and finally was allowed back in last Thursday night, but found appliances damaged due to PG&E power hits, and found burnt embers on the deck. It was that close.
This fund has helped all of them; I describe the need, and Kip sends relief funds directly to the people in need. I thank all of you from the very bottom of my soul for your help in helping them. My own livelihood has been seriously threatened, but by easing the burden for people that support me, it is helping me too.
As for myself, I’m OK, aside from stress and some smoke inhalation issues that had me down this weekend, but I’ll be better with some rest. Next week has big challenges.

It’s always gratifying to see a modest donation amplified in its effect, by so many others who gave as well.
What a great community we find at WUWT.
In the meantime ctm has been inspiring us and raising the mood while stories of science and life continue to pour in.
It seems the message that “leaving the forest alone” while living in it is going to change permanently. There is an emerging consensus (except perhaps for some extremists) that forest management will never be done in the same way again. It is unfortunate that the powers that be in Forestry could not learn from the original local denizens nor from the lessons of a century of forestry management elsewhere in the world.
Apportioning blame is pointless: let’s get our finest minds behind new rules for the management of the environment lest foolish and simplistic notions lead to more catastrophes like this.
Millions of Californians live in flood plains that have been mitigated with levees, dams, channels, waterways, and overflow tracts. In summary – these Californians live in a human-modified environment. If not for human intervention, their homes would flood with more frequency than fires destroy homes in the forest. In fact, all of Sacramento would flood regularly if not for the human-modified environment (maybe we should return Sacramento back to nature? … that might be an improvement 😆). So why can’t mankind modify the forest? When did we develop this “hands-off” … “do not touch” the forest, as if man is not part of the environment. If not for man’s intervention in nature, we’d all be lucky to live past the age of 42. Yeah, yeah, I know the … “nature and animals are ‘better’ than man” … psychotics would cheer people dying at young ages.
Why is the forest is “untouchable” … but flood plains aren’t? Why is one ecosystem more important than another. I say we toss ALL the politicians OUT of Sacramento and restore all the wetlands where the Capitol stands for the Birds, Fish, and toads. Banish them completely OUT of the Golden State … because every other ecosystem should be sacred … even the LA coastal desert.
We need to get-over our eco-extremism, which is now effectively MURDERING people.
Humans are the Stuart’s of Earth. Centuries of learning how to manage the land was tossed out, when people that live in the city and have no concept of how to manage these forests, funded and supported the Environmental Extremist ideologies. By their ignorance they saved the “endangered species” of flora and fauna by stopping logging, mining, hunting and other recreational activities. They destroyed industries that manages those area’s and provided basic materials we all depend upon in the products those industries need. The USA has had to import those basic materials to make those products since those Environments meddled in thing’s they know nothing about. Now large area’s are destroyed because of them. What is not being told is Millions of animals have died and hundreds of species of flora and fauna will go nearly or totally extinct because of those that supported those Environments. They have destroyed billions of dollars worth of the wood that could have been harvested in a proper management of them. They have destroyed the ecosystem that uses the Carbon Dioxide as Atmospheric Fertilizer these extremists falsely attribute to “Global Warming” and added billions of mega-tons of Carbon Dioxide and Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Soot into the Environment…the exact opposite of what they wanted. Now with all the forest destroyed there will be nothing to stop massive erosion when heavy rains and snow melt washes all this ash and dead debris into the streams and river’s that will clog them and kill more aquatic life. These Extremists Group’s and the elected representatives that allowed this to happen, need to be held accountable. They should be publicly shamed and made to go bankrupt paying for their crimes. But we all know the Liberal Media Propaganda of the Democratic Socialists Party will not expose these criminals.
It is great that people are donating to help those effected by this ecological nightmare. But so many of the establishment relief organizations are pocketing the majority of what’s donated and I have a real problem with them. Before you donate check them out.

Actually, the Stuarts as a royal dynasty had a tradition of believing the wrong things, trusting the wrong people and making the wrong decisions. Quite relevant really.

I think you’ll find the spelling is Stewart, not Stuart.
However there were different Clans with different spellings. Mine is the McEwan Clan and there are different spellings of that, and different Tartans, which was probably more significant in historic Scotland than spelling as few could read and write until the 19th Century.
Stewart is the accepted spelling of Scottish Royalty, rightly or wrongly.
He means stewards I think

So true, John … so true. Until actual legal LIABILITY is hung on people like Tom Steyer and all the eco Law Firms (which our CA taxes actually fund) who file neverending lawsuits to STOP any and all human activity in our forests … more death and destruction in the name of nature will continue and accelerate.
We need an organization like Judicial Watch who have done such an outstanding job of suing the Federal Goverment under FOIA to expose Deep state treachery to open up an anti-eco-extremist lawfare org. I promise to donate every spare dollar I can.
The sir name Stewart became Stuart are the same in their meaning household, meaning “guardian”. Biblically as with Genesis 2:15 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps the earth”. Whatever semantics of Stewart or Stuart you still have the definition of both, that we are the Guardians of Earth.

Mrs. May was a Remainer (to the uninitiated the term means she always was dead set on staying in the EU) and the Conservative government (our version, barely, of the US Republicans) decided she was a suitable Prime Minister to steer us through the negotiations of Brexit (again, for the uninitiated, the UK voted in a nationwide referendum to leave the EU in 2016).
The deal has supposedly reached draft approval, but we are being told in no uncertain terms that ‘draft approval’ means it is set in stone by the EU. The 26 member states are now slapping each other on the back and laughing at how they have stitched the UK up.
Remember when Trump told America the Chinese were laughing at America? Well, that’s what the EU is doing now and we don’t have a leader willing to, or capable of telling them to stuff their deal up their jacksy (I trust you all understand the term jacksy in this context).
Sorry to seemingly hijack the thread, I really have no right. But the UK is up shit creek at the moment and we could do with the moral support of our American friends, at least the decent and honest folks could.
Just be aware that we are now ‘members’ of a political bureaucracy we were promised would never materialise. We didn’t vote for it, we have been railroaded into it over the last 40 years.
It is one of the root causes of global climate hysteria with the rabidly alarmist Germany at it’s core. The UN is cuddled up cosily in bed with a political alliance, predominantly left wing, of a continent which rivals the US in size and sophistication.
Germany has always had ambitions on the resources of Russia and there is now a proposal for a ‘European’ army, despite restrictions placed on Germany following WW1 and WW2 from having influence over another army.
A European army is a grave threat to international security particularly when unelected bureaucrats from Brussels (the heart of the EU) and the UN are so closely entwined.
My appeal to WUWT readers and America in general is to condemn the current UK deal with the EU.
Theresa May must step down or be sacked. The deal with the EU must be conducted on the basis of the UK leaving with no deal and forging closer links with the US with whom we have historically had a closer relationship than with Europe.
If a favourable deal can be proffered by the EU then we might consider it but if it impinges on our rights to a functioning free country, or the right to free trade with the rest of the world then the decision must be to leave with no deal and seek our own fortunes.
Sorry Kip/Anthony, this is important to the UK and we need moral support.

HotScot, I marvel that the UK feels so beholden to the continent. The reality is that the UK has the enormous English speaking world to do business with, with familiar laws, business culture, technology culture, and of course has the remainder of the world that wants to do business with them, too.
After Napoleon, the British Navy, which was France’s biggest foreign wine buyer, quit France and went to Portugal for their wines. The British even bought the main Port and Sherry companies and in Porto, you can see the lit-up signs on the skyline of British-named establishments. Hell you guys ruled the waves! Surely you don’t need help from Bruxelles or Paris or Berlin!
A quick question. Anyone know of a place to send clothing/shoes and bedding? Asked at Goodwill Store and Salvation Army and both ladies just looked at me oddly. Lot of people with nothing but what they are wearing right now.
