WUWT Camp Fire Relief

UPDATE #2:   I spoke with Anthony late last evening (Eastern Time) and  he warned me that the needs are far greater than first thought as he moved about and spoke to people to discover the true magnitude of the disaster.

Subsequently, I doubled the goal of this effort to $20,000.  As of this morning, we are very close to reaching that goal.  I will talk with Anthony later in the day and determine if we need to raise the bar yet again.

Rest assured:  Anthony is alive and well and helping where he can.

As you know,  he has temporarily passed the Editorship of WUWT to Charles the Moderator [Thank you Charles for stepping into the breach!] so that he can concentrate on this charitable effort.

THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY we have already sent immediate relief funds to four families identified by Anthony, families that lost their homes in the Camp Fire in Paradise.   Anthony will continue his work on site  identifying urgent needs.

THANK YOU to all you have donated so far — invite your friends, family and neighbors to help — share the GoFundMe link on Facebook and Twitter.

There is now a Friends of WUWT Camp Fire Relief fund, receiving donations through the 501(c)3 not-for-profit charitable organization, the Family-to-Family Project, Inc.

There are lots of people needing help as a result of the Camp Fire.  Lots of relief is headed that that.  We can make sure that our donations go to relieve specifically those families that are Friends of WUWT — we can help take care of our own.  The Family-to-Family Project, operated by my wife and myself, will direct your dollars to those friends in need at the recommendation of our man on the spot.

Please donate as much and as often as you can.

Salute!

Besides financial and spiritual support, there’s another thing to consider.

I took a virtual drive thru Paradise and Chico today using the street view of Google maps.

HERE’S THE BIG ADVICE: Anyone you know that lived in Paradise should take a “virtual” drive down their street as it looked when the Google vehicle took the pictures. Take a screen shot of your house as it looked when the pic was taken. This will be very important for insurance claims and such.
I did this for my pickup that had been rear-ended a few months back and it clearly showed my undamaged truck in the driveway and then the new damage. So this idea is worth it or homeowner insurance, and we in Florida can use it for our numerous claims ( I live about 50 miles from ground zero last month, but no damage).

Is there anyway to donate through WUWT without going through eithrbofvthese to social media sites?

GogogoStopSTOP ==> Never wrong to help where needed — never wrong to do good.

Thank you for your help. Anthony will see to any redirection if necessary.

THANK YOU!

Had already donated on Anthony’s site last week. I was listening to Lars Larson’s broadcast an hour ago and he suggested that the fire has spread to the Chico area. Apparently he did a broadcast there some time back so he was familiar with the area. Any further word on the situation?

Bigfoot ==> I last spoke with Anthony around suppertime (6 pm Eastern) and all was well — he did not mention any immediate fire threat to Chico itself. Paradise is close to, and East of, Chico.

According to the fire tracking map at gifsurfer Chico is not currently threatened by an active fire front.

Thank you for your concern.

Kip,

Thanks for the link ‘gifsurfer’. Looks like Chico and Orville dodged the bullet this time around. The fire control people must have been busy holding the line to save them and did a good job.

Roads, rivers and lakes offer little protection against high winds and flying embers.

tweak ==> Thanks for the link — there has been a long series of fires started by power lines sparking, being knocked down and sparking, etc in California.

It’s a sad old thing, though what started the fire probably irrelavent. The fire could have been started by kids playing with matchs, a cigaret butt, or a spark from an old cars exorst. The real question as put by so many others is why there were so much damage from an inevitable event.

I were browsing in an old books shop a while back and read an account in ‘The century Magazine’ c.1890 of the first overland settler wagon train that arrived in California in about early November 1840. There were several mentions of not being able to see far due to all the smoke from the fires the Indians had set. So fires nothing new in CA.

Hey, Kip. I left a question on your Family-to-FamilyProject.org comment page, but thought I’d leave it here, too. Microsoft will match my donation, but the charity needs to be in the Benevity list of known charities. There’s one in there now listed as “Family-to-Family Inc.” in “Hastings Hdsn, NY”. Is that you? I want to make sure the match goes to the right place.
