@EricHolthaus – new IPCC report calls for ‘…rigorous backing to systematically dismantle capitalism’

From “the stupid, it burns” department comes this very revealing statement (h/t to Dr. Roger Piekle Sr.) from Eric Holthaus, who’s apparently a socialist cheerleader:

He adds:

Source: Twitter

Such a mature, forward thinking, open-minded person Eric Holthaus is. /sarc

Here is his rationale:

Here is the IPCC Chapter4 text in a larger form:

Just a few reminders about Eric Holthaus and his credibility:

Then:

Then there was the flying debacle:

Then a year later, suddenly, flying is OK again.

Then:

In my opinion, Holthaus is overtly emotional, clueless, and has no critical thinking skills, as are many of the social justice warriors he pals around with.

My best advice to Eric Holthaus, and in fact all of the people in the IPCC that prepare these reports…

GO LIVE IN VENEZUELA FOR A YEAR!!!!

Then, if you survive, and can actually get past the border, come back and tell us why capitalism is so bad compared to that starving, filthy, pet-eating, totalitarian social paradise.

In the meantime, we can only pray that somebody will take his Twitter account away. IMHO, he’s a danger to himself and others.

I’m not for it. I think he should be allowed to say anything he wants unless he is calling for illegal activity or it is libel. I don’t want my freedom of speech taken away, so let’s not call for taking away the freedom of speech of our opponents.

I against censoring him as well, though not because of freedom of speech concerns. Let him spout his nonsense where all may hear. Any right thinking individual will see through his BS. The more foolish he and his followers act, the more clearly they will be seen as fools. The more crazy they act, the more they will be ignored.
Although the crazies seem to be vast in number, in actual fact there are many, many more who quietly go about their business as usual. They need to see these idiots for what they are. Silencing them is not the answer here.

Yes, you want people to know how many loons are out there and that they vote. It stimulates the sane people to go and vote to cancel the loons, at least.

Most sane people don’t have time for following twits on Twitter. They’re busy practicing capitalism, making a living, building things, paying bills, having children, working and playing in the outdoors and teaching the next generation about what is important–and REAL.

Of those “458k followers,” I’d bet 400K are bots, 50k are journo trendspotters and 8k are the idle, over-medicated rich chicks in Greenwich, CT who give themselves angst about whether their $200 t-shirts are fair-trade, their $30 kale plates are organic, and their Prius just got towed because the battery crapped out.

I suspect your suspicion is closer than many may believe. Espcially about the angst rudden Cat Stevens, Mahler et al music lovers. But without data I am just another person with an opinion. This also applies to statistical climate model prophesies that can never be proven or unproven, but certainly don’t forecast natural reality in even the short term, and their renewable energy cures cannot deliver a solution to the supposed problem in energy physics fact, however much they are subsidised. Not enough energy, and not there when needed.

I am not advocating wasting resources giving out mental health checks. At least some of those 458,000 ‘followers’ are there out of morbid fascination. I have to admit, the guy is entertaining. Just don’t try anything he suggests at home.

The married family unit is the building block of society. I am sorry he couldn’t keep his together. Maybe he can work on that. Keeping an entire global society together is slightly more challenging.

When he gets the first challenge in hand we can discuss how to rule the world over coffee.

In the meantime if he can keep 458,000 others who also ‘know not the disease nor the cure’ busy in their corner, that would give real solutions a chance to emerge.

Here is a heuristic for that “Mandatory mental health check”:
1. If you WANT to use Twitter, you fail the health check.
2. If you HAVE to use Twitter (against your better judgement) to make people eat their own words, you pass. But you must be closely monitored for signs of infection.

Mandatory mental health check? Waste of time. There are too many people like him whose connection to reality is tenuous at it’s best.

But no one is getting in Eric’s face to point out the obvious to him: where does he think the money comes from to deal with climate this-and-that?

Ye, I believe he is completely disconnected from reality, needs his own bicycle paths, and should get off the soylattecoffee chugging permanently. He’s less a loon than he is one of those who are disconnected from the real world. Where does his income originate? Grant money? If so, no surprises. He doesn’t EARN anything, nor does he contribute anything worthwhile to society.

I see a downward spiral there, probably prolonged but very real.

Google is a profit-based company, isn’t it? If this rather silly person at Google were deprived of the income he now receives as a Google exec, wouldn’t it inconvenience him somewhat? He’s entitled to his opinion as a private citizen, but using his position at Google to force it down the throats of the general public says he’s too immature to have the position he occupies.

October 9, 2018 9:48 am

The real agenda is coming through loud and clear. Destroying capitalism is the best way to drag the developed world down to the level of the developing world. Climate reparations have nothing to do with advancing the developing world, but of destroying the developed world.

Holthaus is a clear example of how emotional triggers can drive someone insane and the IPCC/UNFCCC depends on this fragile nature of the human brain to push their repressive agenda.

Reply to  Ed Reid
October 9, 2018 11:07 am

The problem is that many of the activists, especially those in the developed world, are deluded into thinking they’re saving the world and this leads to a guilt driven self righteous indignation that blinds them to reality. What they fail to understand is that the world does need to be saved, but it needs to be saved from the IPCC/UNFCCC and not from the bogus claims they make to support their existence and agenda.

On the developed world side, guilt and fear drives CAGW alarmism, while in the developing world, the driver is greed, envy and in the case of China, a great opportunity to advance themselves at the expense of the developed world.

This poor hyper-socialized fellow has great difficulty accounting for his relative blessings to a like-minded social circle in ways they would satisfy them, and so he is on the hook to virtue signal to offset some of that self-grandiose guilt; replacing a humble gratitude to One he can’t bring himself to name. Then, who would post a comment on his marital status online, or did I get that wrong, was he meaning something else he’s getting divorced from.

If not, perhaps his wife got fed up of eating vegetation alone and pushing a pram everywhere when she could reasonably afford a perfectly good SUV.

The after-tax net income of many companies is probably in the 5-10% range, as you suggest. For many, it is less. For some, there is no net income. However, Microsoft and Apple (and Google?) have after-tax net income well in excess of 10%. And I don’t read the text as saying to take the profits. Transport Fuel Investment: $0.5 Trillion/year
For perspective, OPEC predicts:

In the period to 2040, the required global oil sector investment is estimated at $11 trillion.

OPEC’s World Oil Outlook 2018 launched in Algiers
In round numbers, this implies investing ~ $100,000 per flowing barrel per day of new oil developed.
I expect most people wish to have transport to work and vacation.
To understand the magnitude of the task, 4%/year depletion plus 1%/year growth from population and economic growth indicates 5%/year replacement & growth needed.
At 100 billion bbl/day, 5%/yr = 5 million bbl/day production of new oil will be needed every year.
$500 billion/5 million bbl/day = $100,000 / bbl/day.

OPEC actually predicts 14.5 million bbl/day world growth in oil production in the 23 years from 2017 to 2040, from 97.2 to 111.7 million bbl/day. That is growth of ~0.63 million bbl/day every year. See OPEC report page 10 table.

Once the oil fields run dry, even booming capitalist economies won’t be able to support these government paid programs.

In my experience, most socialists have such a high opinion of themselves that they are convinced that in a fair world, they would be amongst the best paid.
Since they aren’t, that’s proof that the world isn’t fair and needs to be overturned.

My nephew dropped out of school in year 10, lives at home with mum and dad, but is convinced he’s going to be a millionaire by the time he’s 30. I give him slim chance of ever waking up to himself, no matter how hard life gets for him.

This is what is wrong with Eric. It is what is wrong with vast numbers of people.
It is The Root Cause of climate alarmism, plastic alarmism, diesel alarmism, _________(fill in your own choice) alarmism.
The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability is a 2009 book by Lierre Keith

From the wiki describing the book:

Keith is an ex-vegetarian who believes vegetarianism has damaged her health, and others. Keith argues that agriculture is destroying not only human health but entire ecosystems, such as the North American prairie and destroys topsoil.

The book resulted in extreme controversy, going as far as Keith being physically assaulted at a book reading.
Aric McBay says that Keith is not being provocative for the sake of it, rather she believes vegetarians have the right impulse but are misinformed about the facts.
Ian Fitzpatrick wrote that the book is at the core about the unsustainable nature of modern agriculture, but is “disguised” as a treaty against vegetarianism.
Susan Schenck said the book was “full of hard core indisputable research” and praised its take down of the cholesterol myth and the impacts of soy which she says is causing Alzheimer’s, early puberty, undescended testicles, and cancer.

No. Climate Change doesn’t cause shrunken balls. Soya does.
The boys got away lightly to still even have any balls after eating soya – so full of fake estrogens it would and does turn male anythings into female anythings

And a physical attack. On a girl reading a book.
Nice. Ad Hom gets up close and personal

Some UK figures:
Active UK taxpayers (non-public sector workers) pay £5,000 per year for healthcare from the NHS
On top of that, they pay easily £1,600 more to fund their ‘local authority’s’ spend on Social Care for the elderly.
Government has said it wants an extra £2,000 per year for the NHS within the next 15 years.
Government now says it wants a £30,000 lump sum for it to pay for care for elderly people – equating to a whole year’s salary out of a typical 40 year working life so = 2.5% tax on gross earnings.
65%+ already goes in mandatory take.
Now thinking of a 0.5% annual tax on the value of your house = another £1,250 annually.
To fund local services apparently, where 50% of local service is care for the elderly.
And now, girls of 60 year old+ have been told they have to work until age= 66 before being able to get a pension. Just like that. Out of the blue.

Do you still maintain that ‘Things Have Never Been Better’?

Be gentle on Eric. He is not intrinsically bad.
Just a bit misguided.

Oh, I remember this guy from that ridiculous airport tweet. Here’s some news for him…by producing a child, he has greatly increased his carbon footprint, far more than if he flew every single day, ate nothing but meat, and drove a gas guzzler. What a hypocrite.

If Eric takes responsibility for his daughter’s carbon footprint. Does that mean that his daughter has no responsibility, and therefor has no carbon footprint?

The thing is, even though Holthaus has a track record of not being too accurate, he’s right on this socialist claim.

I’ve also seen a number of tweets from Hayhoe regarding skeptics claims of a socialist conspiracy. Wonder how this contradiction is going to play out.

I think the situation is worse than this misguided individual’s bipolar rants. It seems to me that he is symptomatic of most of those living in metropolises along the east and left coasts. Those of their ilk can even be found in some of the larger cities in Texas! That is, there seems to be a stark ideological contrast between the ‘deplorables’ living in ‘Flyover Country’ and those decadent ‘elites’ living in the centers of wealth. It reminds me of the characterizations displayed in the “Hunger Games,” or in a historical context, the perversions of the Roman aristocracy versus their agrarian colonies. It helps explain the extreme polarization in the politics of the US, and why everything is so partisan. We are two different cultures kept apart by by a common language (with apologies to Churchill.) As long as the wealthy Hollywood ‘elites,’ the denizens of the DC ‘swamp,’ and the money changers of Wall Street view themselves as superior to those with less money, they will rationalize that they know what is best for the world and behave as though they have a moral responsibility to save everyone. Consider Soros! Then there is the observation of Lord Acton: “Power corrupts…”

CAGW has always been a political phenomenon, not a physical one.

The objective of CAGW has always been that of a sledgehammer used by Leftist governments to destroy capitalism.

Ironically, once CAGW has to be disconfirmed given the overwhelming empirical evidence showing its inefficacy, the blowback against the Left will be epic once taxpayers around the world realize that $10’s of trillions of their hard-earned money has been wasted by Leftists for no reason whatsoever.

The bigger the lie, the harder the fall…

Volcanoes!!! Has he paid attention to the carbon emissions load foisted on the planet by volcanoes?

There’s dozens of them emitting carbon into the atmosphere right now!! The horror! Stop up volcanoes!

He isn’t just going off his trolley. The trolley left without him a while ago.

I suggest that Holthaus should move to Venezuela and stop buying anything from anyone. Instead he should make everything himself or beg stuff from others. I’m sure “Mother Nature” will “take care” of him.

Though I suspect he still goes to his local supermarket for goods.

Why is that people who claim to hate capitalism never act like it?

October 10, 2018 11:37 am

As a Great Briton I don’t know who this Hothouse person is, but he seems as conflicted and delusional in the face of worldly reality, natural facts and the laws of physics as our equally bat shit crazy George Monbiot, worthy of the Monbiot award for advanced delusional writing in a snowflake bubble. Probably a 2 Monbioter.

I just love the quote from the document: “Estimates suggest that…”

Talk about certainty!! OMG!

Whose estimates? What suggestion?

Did these estimates agree on the need for revenue from every company on the planet? Did they agree within ten trillion dollars a year?

I suggest they are talking through their hat and haven’t a cucking flue what they are talking about other than to demand access to funds they have not earned to spend on the whims of their connected friends.

Why aren’t they demanding, based on estimates, 10% of the turnover of socialist economies and communist party apparatchiks? Because if you are going to rob an entire global economy, go where the money is, first.

Like the publication of Mein Kampf, you can’t say later it was not stated clearly what the plan is. Honestly, it sounds as if Eric is living inside a bad Hollywood movie.
