From the San Francisco Chronicle:
One of the hottest spots during the just-concluded Global Climate Action Summit was the private runway at San Francisco International Airport, where SFO spokesman Doug Yakel reports corporate jet traffic was up 30 percent over normal.
Airport sources told us that the carbon-spewing corporate jets nearly filled the landing area’s parking slots and that many had flown in for the conference.
The three-day climate confab drew more than 4,000 elected officials, business executives, and environmentalists from around the globe and was aimed at addressing how to lower the carbon emissions responsible for global warming.
The summit was organized by Gov. Jerry Brown, who has been known to fly private.
In 2015, Brown flew with real estate mega-millionaire and major Democratic Party donor George Marcus via private jet to a climate change conference at the Vatican.
The next year, the go-green governor jetted off with Marcus for a two-week trip that included stops in Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukraine.
This time, the governor and his wife, Anne Gust Brown, stayed grounded and carpooled in from Sacramento with his security detail.

Clearly, there are big bucks in the CACA scam.
Today I was shopping for apples in a local market on the US East Coast. I read the labels before I grab. With apples IN SEASON right here right now, their Granny Smith’s were flown in from NEW ZEALAND??! If fear of “climate change” were real, would anyone be doing this? How can it possibly be profitable? Head-smacker!
The NZ Granny Smith is a great apple.
Of course its worth flying them halfway around the world for a decent taste;)
The climate here is absolutely fine as well 🙂
Cheers

I didn’t know that you could get a 40ft container into a regular transport aircraft.
I’ve long declared that as long as I maintain a carbon footprint less than the mean between Al Gore and Leo Di Caprio, I am a superior human being.
Superior to those two is a low hurdle indeed.
To John’s point Rocket, looking at it from the perspective of ALGORE Dicrapio fossil fuel for me but not for thee.
Bill Powers: I am completely unable to refute your comment.
Edmund G. Brown. Real name. Net worth $4m+. Not bad for a Jesuit dropout. Hypocrisy doesn’t even come close.

If they were truly serious about CAGW, they would teleconference.
They wouldn’t have that ‘hands -on’ feeling…
No way a virtual party is as satisfying as a real one.
No hookers and booze on entertainment expense accounts.
Has more to do with photo ops and media profile. Money and votes are the agenda. Can’t do that by tele-conference.
You mean like Pachuri??
My favorite Dilbert comic, the Pointy haired boss asks Dilbert to fly to Seattle for a meeting. Dilbert’s reply asks if the meeting with a stone age tribe that doesn’t have Skype.
Maybe the attendees of these conferences are stone age and have never used a computer.
I heard someplace that the Minutes were Chiseled onto Slate by Miss Birthstone
Bryan A: I believe that is called a hard copy.
Bryan A: I believe that is called a “hard copy”.
Teleconferencing leaves an electronic trail. face to face after searching for hidden bugs is the way to collude.
“If they were truly serious about CAGW, they would teleconference.”
Ex-effing-actly!
That’s the point. They don’t mean it. But as long as they’ve got onside all the people who ought to be pointing this out, they’ll carry on getting away with it.
At least the VIPs such as Pelosi, Granholm, Steyer, Bloomberg, and McKenna are now out in the open.

Gore is going so they are doomed before they start. I thought they would have worked out the effect and paid to keep him away by now.

Of course … any so called climate conference that isn’t Skyped … is hypocrisy … writ LARGE.
Where is reallyskeptical to tell us that being hypocritical is OK as long as you are a very important liberal leader?
If you ‘talk the Low CO2 talk’ but don’t ‘walk the Low CO2 walk’, you are a lying con artist. If you defend lying con artists, you are either an rent-seeking ambulance-chasing lawyer, a card carrying member of the lying con artists union, ….or both.

Even he’s embarrassed.
This isn’t his shift.
I heard he’s on strike until he gets a living wage for his troll posts 🙂
He’s at a climate rally somewhere interstate, he’ll be back in a few days.
Just about any place you look you can find examples of things that should not be done at all if climate change was a rea threat. I see multiple examples of decorative natural gas fireplaces and flames all around me. Not for heat, just for image. I see no Greenpeace protesters in front of them although they are essentially 100% wasted energy and flames are known to not consume 100% of the natural gas supplied to them.
So, if CAGW is an issue, all non-essential travel would be eliminated and any waste of energy stopped immediately . Since that doesn’t appear to be anywhere near a priority for the Greens, I guess one can conclude that it is all a sham. 100% virtue signaling.
Don’t be so smug. The Greens (and their Lemings) if given the opportunity, would in fact outlaw anything and everything they collectively deemed unnecessary or wasteful. Taliban for Gaia.
But only for the masses.
Never for themselves.
DAISNAID! Do As I say, Not As I Do! 😉
“carbon-spewing corporate jets” Corporate jets emit no more CO2 per pound of fuel burned than any other passenger jet: about 3 pounds per pound of jet fuel burned. It might be a different story if viewed as CO2 per passenger-mile.
Reid,
The problem is that corporate jets carry fewer people, and the commercial airliners are going to make the trip anyway, although of course their companies want to fill them up as much as possible.
But they do burn more fuel in relation to thrust. Small engines are less efficient than large high bypass ratio turbofans.
And of course small aircraft are less efficient than large ones. There is a reason that commercial aircraft have been growing ever larger since c. 1920.
I like to use this sort of story to my advantage.
If David Suzuki et al, can jet set between Australia and North America… then I can too.
Hardly surprising. A few years back climate ‘scientists’ pondered spraying diamond dust in the sky to cool planet. In other words, to reduce carbon in the air, more carbon has to be added in the air, but in the purest and most expensive form possible.
https://www.nature.com/news/climate-scientists-ponder-spraying-diamond-dust-in-the-sky-to-cool-planet-1.18634
Renewable diamond?
Is a ‘renewable diamond’ a wedding ring set in Hollywood, Washington DC or New York?
I say they should go for it. It’s not like a diamond mine takes much energy or anything to dig, does it?
There’s also industrial diamonds, which don’t have to be dug up, but still require energy to produce. Also, they’re yellow.
Can’t you choose which impurities you want in your diamond?
That’s the main thing I love about climate-saving shindigs with the obligatory virtue-signaling at some point:
Dozens to hundreds or even thousands of speakers and delegates, traveling long distances to exotic locales, replete with wining and dining, for the most part on someone else’s nickel, delivering one key message: stop using energy, for crying out loud, cease the senseless wastefulness of capitalistic society!
You couldn’t make this stuff up. Self-parody to the extreme, yet they are by and large completely unaware of their blatant hypocrisy. This is far funnier than preaching water and drinking wine, or preaching chastity and whore-mongering: for those are short-term activities. Energy use is cumulative, for days, weeks, months and years.
This one shindig has probably more than spent all the “carbon savings” which Moonbeam Brownout’s California Green Dreamin policies will engender.
Govt. appointees on green missions and their flock of NGO retarded worshippers are very keen to charter things that fly on kerosene.
Confirmed by experience.
Flight Level
…”things that fly on kerosene.”
The last time I was packed in the sardine section of an Airbus I whipped out the old slide rule (which need not be turned off in flight) and calculated that it would take 70,000 horses or 350,000 galley slaves at max exertion to get that thing off the ground!! Thank God for Kerosene.. and suddenly it didn’t seem so crowded..
Cheers
It takes a monster “carbon footprint” to impress upon the lowly peons how important it is to lower their “carbon footprints”, and that they should just be grateful we aren’t sitting in dark cold, mud huts eating twigs and leaves. Yet.
I have to admit my disgust at hearing Harrison Ford tell me that I don’t believe in science …
https://youtu.be/jzZRgJjJ0N0
He’s an Actor fer gawwd sakes. What a great act he put on at this “science” conference.
“Harrison Ford has multiple huge houses and private planes that he flies all the time. When I see him move into a 1 bedroom apt and riding a bike I’ll listen to him.”
From a comment at Jo Nova
Elitism – a necessary character trait to be progressive in the first place.
I do agree with Harrison Ford’s claim that we are facing the greatest moral crisis of our time. I think the crisis is that we are going down a path to not only cause energy poverty in the developed countries but preventing the third world from getting the benefits of cheap, abundant electrical energy using fossil fuels. Both will cause deaths and needless hardship all in the name of the very unlikely CO2 control knob for catastrophe.
I still like him as an actor, but my respect for all like him is deeply diminished, sadly!
Carpooled?
Why didn’t he take public transit?
I’ll begin to believe that Global Warming is a crisis when the people who keep telling me it’s a crisis begin acting like it’s a crisis.
Yeah! The CalTrain between Sacramento and SF is reasonably convenient and fairly comfortable; the only problem is changing from Amtrak to BART at the Richmond station.
100% correct. I can only assume that said train is not quite … high speed enough … for Jerry.
“The three-day climate confab … was aimed at addressing how to lower the carbon emissions responsible for global warming.”
Not going to meetings will not effect AGW. Meetings where solutions are proposed for AGW, will.
I’m really skeptical of your skepticism
It’s an age old tactic of the left; Claim you’re against/for something but you’re actually for/against it, it is some kind of Lefty tactic frequently abused by them for their own misguided ends!
And some animals are more equal than others…especially when they’re pigs.
I just compared electrical bills with someone living in California. Same size house, theirs’ was double ours in Texas, but we are working on it. We have been through this before, knew renewables weren’t so much, also not clean, several decades ago. Also knew about ethanol. Also some were working on thermodynamically viable solutions. Do History.
Wasted trillions of BTU’S and Dollars.
Actually attending any meeting where they discuss how society will reverse AGW or its latest form: climate change will not effect any changes either.
Not going at least has less of a traffic impact and allows expenses to be spent on anything else.
I’m trying to figure out if you really are this clueless, or you have been convinced that everyone who isn’t you, is.
The point is that you don’t have to fly to conferences in order to meet.
Beyond that, you could take commercial flights for very little extra CO2 production.
But no, the elite have to fly around in the most CO2 intensive forms of transportation available.
And as always, the trolls will defend these actions, because they care.
There he is! Right on cue to explain away why everyone in the world, except elitist leftists and climate scientist intelligencia (and China, and basically everyone except the USA and Europe) must eliminate their fossil fuel emissions to stave off the end of the world.
Can you please name one of these meetings that occur about 12 times a year that actually resulted in anything but cash outlays by the USA and groveling for dollars by others?
And are these people not aware of the internet? Videoconferencing? There are no new ideas proposed at these meetings. Everything is discussed ahead of time. It’s just a party on other people’s dime, and a chance to feel self righteous and get some free press. But of course you know that, but you are just being willfully ignorant.
This climate scare has been going on for 20 years. It’s always been 5 years away from the TEOTWAWKI. How long do you expect these scare tactics to be effective? In case you haven’t noticed, everyone except you true believers have stopped listening.
But what’s your view on all the CAGW gang riding in private jets? Don’t you agree they could have teleconferenced?
ReallySkeptical – Fill me in on these proposed solutions, who shared them, and why they had to be done en masse in San Francisco.
ReallyDelusional sez: “Not going to meetings will not effect AGW. Meetings where solutions are proposed for AGW, will.”
Riiiiiight. Keep drinking the Koolade. Always amusing to hear the side of the climate kooks and quacks.
I attended the Summit. It was centered around the Moscon Center but to attend a lot of the seminars one had to get back in their cars and drive to various locations, and again look for a place to park. The emissions at the airport might have been bad, but San Francisco is no better. We did a lot on the streets too.
But they gave us a metal water bottle instead of plastic.
Governor Brown, this Summit was a joke to the environment.
You would think that a meeting of climate “scientist” to discuss the same old subjects would be a perfect time to use one of the many web conferencing applications available and brag about how many tons of carbon dioxide were kept out of the atmosphere. Not having the meeting at all would work even better.
***The three-day climate confab drew more than 4,000 elected officials, business executives, and hypocrites from around the globe and was aimed at addressing how to lower the carbon emissions responsible for global warming.***
I made a little correction in the paragraph.
I don’t understand why any of the green leaders need to use Skype or private jets anyway. Surely with their knowledge of the laws of physics they can just levitate effortlessly through the air or solid walls anywhere they want to with no emissions of any sort?
It would be interesting to see if the temp station at that airfield showed a deviation correlation with the increased traffic at the airfield.
I am sure all travel if offset and trees are growing in far flung places (very well at the moment I hear) to absorb their CO2 emissions.
One does what one can with the modest resources at ones disposal. I know when I have my morning coffee with sweetener, I often ponder the chocolate croissant. Whenever someone bring out the zero fat, zero sugar lovely flakey, tasty croissant I will be there! Likewise, I am sure the climate boondogglers yearn for electric corporate aircraft and are fully committed to using them when they are available.
Maybe all the “do-gooders” can help clean up San Francisco while there… you know pick needles, syringes, human poop, etc.
That would be a REAL help to that environment.
SF Chronicle!!? (snort). The following agitprop is from them too. How the heck does discovering where the white sharks go for 6 months give them an “immeasurably valuable trove of info on ocean ecosystems and. …. climate change”!!!! Does that make any sense at all?
https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Mysterious-great-white-shark-lair-discovered-in-13234068.php?t=5c043f9ce3&f?
If I had a commercial boat and was selling shark fins or tuna to Asian markets, I’d study their map a bit and then go fishin. Thanks scientists!
Having known Dr Block’s graduate professor, they tracked a great white in the Atlantic that had been feeding on a dead whale. They had both a tracking tag and stomach tag in one shark. The stomach tag allowed them to know when the shark ate again. From the time it had gorged on the whale the shark didn’t eat again for something like a week when they have to leave the shark due to weather. It is probably that the sharks are feeding on squid out the the ocean. Their diving behavior is classic pelagic fish behavior while feeding. They whole idea that the open oceans are “deserts” like the Sahara are utter fantasy.
