Heartland Institute to Livestream Global Climate Action Summit Rebuttals

Via press release.

Streams Countering Alarmism at Summit Begin Thursday, Sept. 13 at Noon Pacific Time, and Friday, Sept. 14 at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time

The Heartland Institute will be live-streaming two panel discussions of scientists and climate policy experts from the office of the Independent Institute in Oakland, California during the Global Climate Action Summit this week in San Francisco.

Heartland will livestream two sessions from the Independent Institute conference center across the Bay in Oakland on Thursday, September 13 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. PT, and on Friday, September 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PT.

You can watch Thursday’s live-stream at this link, and Friday’s live-stream at this link.

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) is hosting the Global Climate Action Summit, featuring liberal activists, entertainment celebrities, government officials, and very few scientists. Prominent participants include Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Van Jones, Tom Steyer, Michael Bloomberg, Nancy Pelosi, and Al Gore.

While Global Climate Action Summit speakers attempt to make the case for heavy-handed government action to restrict carbon dioxide, The Heartland Institute will host interactive panel discussions fact-checking the summit presentations and pointing out the scientific and economic data supporting climate realism.

The Heartland Institute’s Thursday panel discussion will coincide with Global Climate Action Summit lunch break. Heartland’s Friday panel discussion will coincide with a planned break and subsequent political calls to action at the summit.

“The Global Climate Action Summit perfectly illustrates the hollow nature of calls for government restrictions on carbon dioxide,” said Heartland Institute Senior Fellow James Taylor. “An extensive lineup of leftist activists will be making yet another attempt to grow government and restriction human liberty, this time in the name of saving the planet. We look forward to presenting the facts and logic that expose the foolishness and harmfulness of this leftist agenda.”

Taylor is available for additional comments or an interview on your radio or TV program. Please contact Director of Communications Jim Lakely at jlakely@heartland.org or text/call 312-731-9364.

The Heartland Institute is a 34-year-old national nonprofit organization headquartered in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Its mission is to discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to social and economic problems. It has hosted 12 International Conferences on Climate Change since 2009, and two America First Energy Conferences in 2017 and 2018.

Any takers that Han says something like ‘We can’t use The Force to stop Climate Change”?

Thanks for doing this

I wonder just what is the net worth of those eminent speakers, who want to pull the ladder up after themselves?

“Heartland Institute to Livestream Global Climate Action Summit Rebuttals”

Should be an easy job.

If there were a formal debate, with rules, the outcome is fairly predictable. link

In this case, most of the audience won’t understand most of the science. Debates like that are decided based on the persuasiveness of the speaker.

I used to tell my students not to debate politicians and lawyers. In a debate about engineering between an engineer and Sarah Palin, I would bet on Sarah.

Hey, this is a pretty cool idea. Not sure how many will watch it, but I support the effort anyways. You never know how much impact you can have until you try.

Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Van Jones, Tom Steyer, Michael Bloomberg, Nancy Pelosi, and Algore.

My guess is we won’t hear much about the participants personal carbon footprints.

I just helped my 7th-grade daughter on her science homework. Her class is currently studying electric circuits and Ohm’s Law.

Is there anyone on Craig’s list above that could earn above a “D” if you handed them a 7th-grade science homework problem sheet?

Here is yet another rebuttal

Without an ECS and without a TCRE climate science is left with warming and melting ice sheets and receding glaciers and heat waves and hurricanes and floods and droughts and all kinds of such horrors but without the evidence that cutting emissions will attenuate or moderate any of it. In other words, we’re screwed.

Calm down mate.

No one is screwed, other than temporarily financially. People in the west eventually come to their senses.

These morons will try to take what they believe is theirs, but no one’s going to hand their livelihood over to the state, not even socialists.

The “tipping point” is here. Brexit and Trump demonstrate the will of nations. The UK and the US are far from perfect but our collective desire for free trade will overcome the socialist/communist/fascist ambitions of predatory individuals.

TCRE looks like more goalpost-moving and magical thinking by the Alarmists, and a bald-faced effort to get rid of the Pause by pretending it doesn’t matter. They basically are saying, “CO2 has an effect, even though you can’t see it. Trust us, we’re scientists”.

September 11, 2018 3:57 pm

Would Sen. McCarthy please step forward.

This is no witch hunt, this is the real McCoy.

September 11, 2018 3:59 pm

Good, follow the example of Dr. Gobbles, publish the true facts and keep on repeating them.

And put out lots about the gas CO2. Its the number one thing, take that away and the whole house of cards which is the Green blob must fall over.

Point out that contary to the Greens idea that CO2 retains heat, thus the more there is the hotter it must become, instead of th facts that CO2 re-radiates the energy it receives, thus no storage.

The fact is Micheal gaseous CO2 molecules have to get hot, as their emissivity is very low,……..
It will not get warmer than the air it is in, as that has near zero emissivity,…..it has to travel upto the radiative layer above the troposphere ……. i forget the name of that layer.

Hottel and Leckner measured the column emissivity of CO2 in the 1940’s and 1970’s, respectively, at .14.
Nasif Nahle has calculated a much smaller emissivity, .002, using two different methods.
Staley and Jurica (1972) get .19. The range seems to be between poor and spectacularly poor emissivity, .002 to .2.

And then that insipid CO2 molecule has to warm 2500 non-CO2 molecules…simply magical.

Paragraph beginning “The Global Climate Action Summit…” – line 4, ‘restrict’ not ‘restriction’

Otherwise, good news. Let’s hope for a large audience.

You can lead a horse to water but he’s got to be thirsty to drink. Shell shocked by a two decade Pause, the same amount of time we had the warming that caused all the hype (with considerable help from proponents who proved themselves the biggest drivers of climate), losing the few debates they foolishly subjected themselves to (no more of that is the official policy!), contrary Mother Nature, waxing polar bears, burgeoning butterflies, the Great Greening, bumper harvests, cold snowy winters, perennial slippage of death spiral deadlines, all needing Rube Goldberg machinations to explain how these are exactly what global warming looks like has them in a lights-out, fingers-in-ears, dumb stare. But, what can one do?

Did this event replace the annual global warming conference that Heartland used to host?
