Poor countries plan to demand more control over global development bank climate cash supplied by rich countries.
Small Island States, Facing Rising Seas, Seek Economic Overhaul
Small island states facing a “frightening” rise in sea levels will seek investments in everything from solar energy to fisheries to boost their economies at a U.N. summit next week
Leaders will meet in Samoa in the Pacific from Sept. 1-4 to drum up partnerships with companies, development banks and donors on projects that bring in dollars and jobs while protecting oceans and environments, organizers said.
…
“Beaches disappearing, hotels and port facilities having to move – it is for some countries a very frightening outlook,” the head of the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP), Achim Steiner, told Reuters.
Islands were interested in developing fisheries, moving into eco-tourism and shifting to wind and solar power from imported diesel to generate electricity, among other projects, he addded.
…
RICH NATIONS FAULTED
Aid has been “over-promised but under-delivered. This is the biggest hurdle,” Marlene Moses of Nauru, chair of the 44-nation Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), told Reuters.
“We are calling for a paradigm shift” to take more account of the needs of island states, she said.
A draft AOSIS statement, obtained by Reuters, mainly faults rich nations for failing to address global warming.
“International action to address climate change remains grossly inadequate, and emissions of greenhouse gases continue to rise at a distressing rate,” it says, calling for more action “with developed countries taking the lead.”
…
Are you all feeling properly guilty? Clearly the only solution to keep the leaders of poor nations smiling is to immediately surrender all control over our promised guilty rich nation climate cash into their care.
over-promised but under-delivered… much like the horrors of CAGW.
Aren’t they entitled to free money? That’s what the UN is about.
Yep … out of the pockets of “rich” (read: debtor) nations such as the USA
You can only be a debtor if there’s a reasonable chance of the recipient ever paying it back.
The blame is not in the delivery, but in the promise in the first place.
exactly.
The USA has dropped emissions……China has doubled emissions
…give them China’s email address
I think the idea was that the USA would borrow money from China so that we could give it back to them in exchange for… something.
Australia has the “aid” thing down pat, we borrow money in order to give it away in “aid” to countries many of which don’t need it ! Even to the point of >$100 mil to the Clinton Foundation.
And the Clinton Foundation then employs ex-Aussie PM Julia Gillard, who gave them the money.
Jeff Sessions has obviously also been running the Australian justice system for the past 10 years too.
http://www.china. com Ha ha ha. Communist China… Chi Com. China dot com. Get it?
Kind of reminds me of the late Sam Kinison (paraphrased):
“You want to send them something, you want to help, send them U-Hauls. Send them U-Hauls, some luggage, and send them a guy out there and tell them you live in a desert, understand that?! You live in a desert!!! Nothing grows out of here! Nothing’s going to grow out of here!
Come here, you see this? Huh? This is sand, yeah it‘s sand. You know what it’s going to be 100 years from now? It’s going to be sand! You live in a desert! Get your kids, get your stuff, will make one trip will take you to where the food is! We have deserts in America we just don’t live in them!”
Move. Moove! MOOOOOOoOoooooOOOvvvvvvvve!!!!!!
Ha ha ha ha ha …
BTW … I thought the noble Pacific Islanders invented outrigger canoes for the purpose of mooooooving to a better island … with more resources. Heck, I even read once that the reason Pacific Islanders are all so FAT is because they evolved to store fat and have slow metabolisms for the long inter-Island journeys. They are genetically programmed to MOOOOOOooooovvvvve!
They are so fat that when they attend the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NY, people tie ropes to them.
Oh, I dunno, could also have something to do with moving from a re-contact diet of poi, taro leaf, breadfruit, and fish, to Spam, pork, sausages, eggs, and sweet starchy fare.
Genius. We need Sam now, he would have been all over this CAGW scam like a duck on a junebug. It’s not unlikely, as funny and riveting as he was, he would have turned the tide long ago on this persistent concocted narrative. A buddy in my youth once told me his secret for romantic conquest: “Be funny. Get ’em laughing, and resistance melts away.” If he had lived longer, George Carlin was on the right track.
“Poor countries plan to demand more control over global development bank climate cash supplied by rich countries”
What about the Warsaw International Mechanism?

“Clearly the only solution to keep the leaders of poor nations smiling is to immediately surrender all control over our promised guilty rich nation climate cash into their numbered Swiss bank accounts.”
There, corrected that for you! 😉
I seem to recall that one of the primary reasons that Copenhagen December 2009 failed was that developing countries refused to sign up to a verification deal for what they were spending the West’s money on!
Ha! Ha! Ha! Brilliant! Sad….but almost certainly true!
So true.
Foreign aid has been described as poor people in rich countries giving money to rich people in poor countries.
I thought all those rich despots in poor countries had to leave on account of snow.
What climate change damage? The reports mostly have the islands increasing in area, not shrinking.
Ya know … not every island is NOT an … atoll
Well, no. Not atoll
Im sure Obama and Gore will be at the front of the line handing over their millions.
But, you will notice they never reach into their own wallets looking for cash to give away.
I have no end of contempt for those who demand others to be generous on their behalf.
A man who does not live according to his stated beliefs has no beliefs at all. N.B. Mr Gore et al
That would be on a CDIH

No, they will handle over your millions.
My wife attended the Rio Earth Summit in 1992, wound up sitting next to Barbara Bush, and watched for two days as the third world countries threatened to egregiously foul their own nests unless the US gave them money. “We love the earth! We will destroy it unless you pay!”
G.H.W. Bush told them to get lost, and good on him.
They demand more control over the cash.
In other words, they want to control who gets bribed, not the NGOs.
Beggars can’t be choosers. Just saying.
It’s all about the Benjamins. And always has been.
The transfer of wealth … is like “loaning” your deadbeat brother-in-Law $$$ to start his new online “goldmine of a business”. Money down a rathole. Eg. Zimbabwe, Venezuela … and now … So. Africa.
The lie about sea level rise is catching up with the promoters of the untruth. Their lies are moving from mere hype and rent seeking into actuslly costing a lit of money.
Eventually someone is going to notice that most islands are growing and that old structures are not drowning.
A person I deal with is a TRUE BELIEVER in a big way. He believes current sea level rise is the cause of the Yellowstone Caldera showing renewed activity!
It has to be because we have had so much SLR that it upsets the continental structure causing volcanos and earthquakes! The wonderful power of CO2 to control even the ground we stand on never ceases to amaze me! (SARC)
You cannot reason with insane.
“hotels and port facilities having to move” Can anyone tell us what hotels and port facilities have had to move?
Bristol used to be a major port. You wouldn’t know it now. It’s not that big a deal.
So did Rye and Winchelsea. Now look at them – Winchelsea is well removed from Winchelsea Beach!
And what about Ephesus?
Houston’s doing fine, thank you very much for asking.
…but, but, but what about Indianola, TX? It used to be a bustling port (circa 1875) now it’s gone! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indianola%2C_Texas Must have been climate change! Where’s the money for the descendants of those victims? And even survivors that had to move? /sarc
The need to keep building towards the shore as it recedes, and they need to increase rooms/beds to draw more tourists. All this must be due to climate change.
/sarc
Wouldn’t that mean new JOBS building new Ports? Aren’t Ports a PROFITABLE business? Why wouldn’t The World Bank … INVEST … in new, bigger, and better, profitable Ports? Why do the US taxpayers need to GIVE their $$$ to build new Ports?
It’s not that they had to move, you missed the actual meaning of the sentence. Here it is, pay particular attention to the last 9 words:
“Beaches disappearing, hotels and port facilities having to move – it is for some countries a very frightening outlook,”
The fearmongers are telling them that’s what’s going to happen….someday. And they’re dumb enough to believe it. Reminds me of the religious cults that predict the end of the world on a specific date, and their adherents believe it. The cult always has an excuse when it doesn’t happen.
A bit like the electric car supporters claiming they will become wonderful with the approaching battery improvements, increasing charging points, etc. It’s always in the future, but usually just beyond the time when they expect to retire with generous pensions!
yeah their invisible threat never materialising at any point, 30yrs of measuring enso,……….woo-wooed as mann-made schmidt hitting the fan.
Would next Tuesday be okay? I’m expecting a cash inflow from some burger futures…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30knrJBeyr0
As the alarmist fools complain about greedy capitalists …
The left seems to define greed as somebody having something I want, and refusing to give it to me.
They must learn the difference between envy and jealousy:
Envy: It’s yours, and I want it.
Jealousy: It’s mine, and you can’t have it.
John, that’s both succinct and accurate. Did you snag it from Oscar Wilde? And I mean that as a compliment.
I have been noticing that other developed nations were much more noble and virtuous when they had the US bank rolling them (i.e. Obama). Now that we pulled out of the Paris Accord they seem to be losing their enthusiasm.
Like Eliza Doolittle’s father, they are too poor to afford morals.
Kudos to the US for not lying to them about their intentions. It has been clear for almost two years now that the US would not be funneling more cash into this fund. Is America the only country with ethics or morality? Are they the only country that dare be honest with the developing nations? Shame on he rest of the world.
Are they really acting all that different than other under developed, non-island nations?

stewie (family guy) you got my money??
Let them have complete control.
As there is very little in there, just ensure we do not put any more in.
Well, I’d prefer they refund the money Obama embezzled into the fund before handing control over to the extortionist nations.
The Great Climate Alarm Scam for 4th rate physicists (climatologists) and unreliable, uneconomic renewable energy schemes has now added the great Welfare Scam for poor countries in the name of the Environment, and Social Justice.
‘Demand’.
That’s really where I start having a problem.
Welcome to the age of self entitlement when the world owes you a living because you exist.
“Islands were interested in developing fisheries, moving into eco-tourism and shifting to wind and solar power from imported diesel to generate electricity, …”
Can someone please explain how “developing fisheries, moving into eco-tourism” can arrest sea-level rise?
And how can small island nations “shifting to wind and solar power from imported diesel to generate electricity” have any measurable effect on sea-level rise?
It’s obvious – Eco-tourists would be quite happy to stay in hotels with water sloshing around on the ground floor so they can go home and tell everyone how the US is mean and won’t give the islands money.
The one part of the scam that couldn’t be controlled is the willful separation of Western nations from their money. The plan was to intimidate, shame, and ostracize Western nations who wouldn’t fall in line. Why wouldn’t an underdeveloped nation “sign here” for free money to take part in the wealth redistribution? Out of the hundreds of nations signing only a handful were to become meaningful donors and without them the whole scam falls apart. China as a recipient of funds when it has the world’s second (and may soon be first) largest economy in the world? Explain that logic. Nothing more than a UN scam to Socialize the world with other peoples’ money.
Sophistry is best logic free like yours.
” China as a recipient of funds when it has the world’s second (and may soon be first) largest economy in the world? Explain that logic. ”’
China will never over take America in your life-time, it wont even be the worlds 2nd largest economy in a decade.
America [trump] has only just begun reigning them in.
They are, and have been declared Americas NO1 National security threat, because they are the worlds no1 security threat, and it is not going to end well for them.
All these countries joined the CAGW consensus because they were told it would result in a wealth transfer in their favor. Why wouldn’t they be on board?
Let’s presume for the sake of discussion that the entire CAGW scare is a UN-sponsored strategy where wealth transfers are the ultimate goal. You can look for the effort to enact wealth transfers to double down. Maybe it will come with a message shift where they walk back some of the extreme claims, but at the same time emphasize a shift in strategy from mitigation to adaptation. And Western nations have a responsibility to pay for the adaptation of poorer nations who are too corrupt to have functioning economies of their own, but that (good news) the total cost will be less. So write the check before we ask you to build more windmills, which will cost more than paying for indulgences.
“All these countries joined the CAGW consensus because they were told it would result in a wealth transfer in their favor. Why wouldn’t they be on board? ”
Indeed, and now that the largess they were promised in Paris has failed to materialize, they’re pissed. Can’t really blame them. They were sold a bill of goods that didn’t exist.
As the great Mojo Nixon said: “Where the hells my money?”
How should Climate Change be addressed? Should it be Sir, Madam, or Your Royal Highness?
They never say.
How should it be addressed? How about the nearest jail?
I find it funny to use the phrase “to drum up” when they are going to Samoa.
I guess it’s official that the term “paradigm shift” has replaced “Marshall Plan” for money grabs. The Paris Agreement is the next term coming up since “North-South Agreement” and “Third World” did not stick.
over-promised but under-delivered
Well, blame Obama. He promised them money that his successor had no legal obligation to follow (since “the promise” was made by Obama but never sent to the Congress for ratification). They should feel lucky they got as much cash from Obama as they did before he left office.
Why blame him? He is free to contribute his own money now.
He only hands out OPM, never his own money.
What was the advance for his memoirs? And his wife’s? And his kids? And his dog?
Well, they could always try to borrow against future payments received. But then Obama is not running the IMF and World Bank into the ground anymore.
Sorry but plastic is the new global warming cause. Better start staging plastic trash scenes on the beach for the cameras.
I seem to remember that countries would have to prove that any issues they had were caused by global warming. Good luck with that !!
This reminds me of the time I was in Paris at the Baccarat store shopping for crystal when the communists unemployed staged a strike (all stores closed and everybody got out of the way).
Just what do “unemployed” do when they’re on strike? Go to work?
Nothing. It’s hard to get out of the habit.
That’s why nuns wear them.
Redistribution of wealth, both within and between countries is a big part of AGW solutions.
They want to develop fisheries and move into eco-tourism. So then they plan that the fishing boats will be powered by sails and oars, and the eco-tourists will arrive on sailing ships?
What happens if the wealthy countries donate money to poorer ones to fight climate change and the latter’s emissions continue to rise and/or the money is used for other things? Do the former get a refund?
I presume that the leaders of the small Nations will be meeting in a luxurious Oceanfront resort in Samoa on the edge of the ominously rising Pacific Ocean.
He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither. Ben Franklin
This vid points out who owns the federal reserve and why JFK was assassinated
Two types of wealth redistribution, domestically through social welfare programs and subsidies and internationally through really bad trade deals and the latest programs thought up by the UN. This is a new form of international socialism.
Has anyone actually documented that any of this island nations have suffered any harm to date?
“port facilities having to move”
Too much water for a port?
Demand ? !!1 Rather than holding out your hands for cash, hold your hand on your asses. Because that is what your owed. NOTHING !
“Clearly the only solution to keep the leaders of poor nations smiling is to immediately surrender all control over our promised guilty rich nation climate cash into their care.”
Exactly! Why should wealthy nations feel any responsibility to fulfill their promises? Screw the poor!
That’s what I always found “amusing” about the Paris accords.
The root of it was always a way to transfer wealth from the US to other nations.
Other large polluting nations were not expected to contribute “initially”.
Meanwhile, the US has actually exceeding the emissions reduction goals while many
nations that are still members have not, or even got worse.
Climate change politics has always been about wealth transfer. With the U.S. thankfully out of the free-cash game, it’ll be interesting to see how the EU countries, especially Germany, handle the entitled demands of the third world “climate-damaged” nations. My guess is that after a bunch of false starts, Germany will come to the same conclusion that the U.S. did: NFW is it worth committing hundreds of billions to corrupt third world govts.
Probably too late to set up a surfboards and hookers concession.
Wrong adress. There’s money enough: blame your local leaders.
