The Sierra Club is fretting that the Democrats don’t really seem interested in solving the climate crisis.

The Democratic Party Has a Climate Change Problem

The Democratic Party appears to be moving backward on climate action
BY NATASHA GEILING | AUG 22 2018

In late May—days after President Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal—Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer stood in front of a gas pump at a D.C. Exxon and lambasted the president for his role in raising gas prices for Americans across the country.

If that image—a Democratic leader griping about the unavailability of cheap fossil fuel for internal combustion engines—seems out of touch with the image of a party that has positioned itself to be the leading voice on climate action, you haven’t been paying attention to the way that the Democratic Party, as an institution, deals with climate change.

Take the party’s recent bit of backtracking on a resolution to prohibit fossil fuel companies from contributing to political campaigns. A little over a week ago, the Democratic National Committee reversed its position on a previously adopted resolution that prohibited donations from fossil-fuel-aligned corporate PACs. According to DNC chairman Tom Perez, the reversal was done out of support for fossil fuel workers and labor interests—specifically as an olive branch to union members who have fled from the party in recent years. But just over 4 percent of mining workers are unionized; more likely, the reversal is an overture to fossil fuel executives who would have seen their influence dwindle under the original resolution.

Or take the fact that the official Democratic rebuttal to Trump’s State of the Union Address this year omitted any mention of climate change, despite delivering the rebuttal against the backdrop of an administration that is interested in nothing less than the systematic dismantling of domestic and international climate policies.

A few weeks ago Democrats were complaining about losing votes to a “spoiler” green Ohio candidate who publicly claimed to be descended from space aliens – though to be fair the Democrats blamed votes for the green candidate on Russian meddling.

Still you have to wonder how hard the Democrats can chase the green space alien demographic without alienating some of their more mainstream supporters.

Perhaps the Democrats have finally woken up to the reality that making ends meet today is far more important to normal people than whether GDP will be reduced by a few percent a hundred years from now.

“Still you have to wonder how hard the Democrats can chase the green space alien demographic without alienating some of their more mainstream supporters.”

In politics, it is what we used to call the “Big Tent”. There is plenty of room for a wide range of viewpoints within the party.

I, personally, see no difference between the space alien demographic and the mainstream liberal democrat. Plenty of room for both in that party.

Tbe real problem is identity politics and green policies don’t play well together. The Mainstream College Liberal has put on black masks and hoodies to tear down Confederate statues and harass the remaining 20 racists in America. The Left is so fixated on black, hispanic, asian, feminist, LGBTQrstuv identity politics that there is little bandwidth left for the hypothetical CAGW boogieman when they are fixated on their Trump Tantrum, their “Orange Haired boogieman” in the White House.

Many people in Democrat Party as well as other leftists would absolutely love to do what ANC is doing. One of the reasons they push for open borders is to grow a class of people who live in substandard rental/government subsidized housing in a perpetual state of poverty. Cloward/Piven writ large.

And only a matter of time when civil war breaks out in Sweden. No go zones are breaking out all over the place. 62 at least. Malmo a big city has 40% of population non Swedish born.

So many rapes at a big music festival last 2 years that the festival organizers have decided to call it quits as of 2018.

“The organisers of Sweden’s largest music festival have announced that the event will come to a close after cancelling this year’s festival following a wave of sex attacks last year.”

Grenades can be bought on the black market for a $100 in Sweden. Openly sold in no go zones.

Can WUWT have one of its writers analyze the advantages and disadvantages of a clean energy plan as a privately funded, free market, alternative to Tax subsidized Solar cell arrays and wind turbines, using:
1)Thorium for nuclear energy in place of Uranium to markedly reduce nuclear waste and recycle existing waste; Estimate the Reductions in cost to Construct Thorium nuclear reactors, the modularity, scalability, and low risk of accidents compared to existing designs.
2) Natural gas turbine designs that generate virtually pollution free electricity, based on the Allam Cycle, using supercritical CO2 to spin the turbine, recycling the CO2, or capturing and redirecting it for other uses, at a cost of 0.06 cents per kW hr based on one source, developed by the R&D consortium called Net Power comprised of partners 8 Rivers Capital, a VC tech incubator based in Durham, NC, who worked initially with engineering firms Fluor and Babcock and Wilcox to validate the concept, and shares ownership with Chicago Bridge and Iron (CBI) and Exelon, the major public electrical utility corporation. Haven’t heard much about the progress of the Net Power partnership to construct a prototype Allam Cycle plant on the Houston Shipping Channel.
3) Use the items 1,2 to produce Ammonia NH3 from natural gas and atmospheric N2 for Fuel cell engines in automobiles and trucks as a replacement for gasoline and battery powered cars.

How realistic is this clean energy alternative plan compared to wind and solar? Just think of all the birds we could save from violent deaths.

Sorry dude, but anhydrous ammonia is just too nasty to use as fuel. The gas is deadly and so is the liquid. I work with it on a daily basis. If you get it on your skin (even a small amount) you must have lots of water to flush it off. Immediately.

Much of this can be explained by understanding the hierarchy of precedence assigned to various subjects on the Left. The political Left is a mish mash of different “movements” all geared toward the sabotage of the USA and the western world in general. Climate change is a good subject to raise when attacking capitalism, but they have bigger things on the plate now. Environmentalists are to remain silent when the subject of illegal immigration spoiling the environment in the Southwest is brought up. Radical Islam is higher on the ladder than gay rights or feminism, so if Islamists shoot up a gay night club or abuse women, just hush up and take one for the team. If you need to complain about high gas prices and dependence on OPEC while blocking Keystone XL, development of ANWR, or fracking, do what is necessary.

And so on…

What’s amazing is Tom Perez even admits to this bias:

According to DNC chairman Tom Perez, the reversal was done out of support for fossil fuel workers and labor interests—specifically as an olive branch to union members who have fled from the party in recent years. But just over 4 percent of mining workers are unionized…..

I guess we can take from this that the DNC doesn’t give a damn about 96% of the workers in an industry that is struggling; only the 4 % that are unionized (and donate to the DNC).

(How does he rationalize that stance for union folk with the DNC position that apparently favors illegal workers over unionized employees doing jobs at the lowest end of the pay scale?)

The Democrats can’t make a valid, convincing argument for CAGW. That’s why they don’t bring up the subject. It shouldn’t be a surprise, since even the alarmist scientists can’t make a valid case for CAGW, either.

Which side is eager to debate the CAGW issue? It’s not the Alarmist side, now is it. There’s a reason for that: They don’t have any evidence and they know it.

Last line of the article above: “Perhaps the Democrats have finally woken up to the reality that making ends meet today is far more important to normal people than whether GDP will be reduced by a few percent a hundred years from now.”

Well, many now former Democrats woke up to the fact that GDP was reduced by a few percent over the past few years by President Obama’s policies, so the extension to liberal climate propaganda isn’t much of a stretch, I suppose.

The ability to think logically has not been a very common characteristic of the Democrats for several decades now. You can throw many of the Republican leadership into that bucket as well. It doesn’t seem to take any them long, once they arrive in Washington, to fall into the D.C. and K-Street traps that the voters are ignorant, they are invincible and money, especially the party and their own campaign funds, are the solution to all of the world’s problems. I think it was around a year ago that one TV show pointed out that how much money they raised for their political party was instrumental in determining which committee assignments they received. New electees were expected to spend 3 or 4 hours a day in the party boiler rooms down the street from the Capitol raising funds for the party. Looking at the results, I guess that brain washing system works. We now have the best government money can buy.

Congress critters may end up spending eight hours a day dialing for dollars. link They promise to solve the donors’ problems. AGW is a complete fabrication of the Eco-loony Left! The people know it and finally the Left is cluing in to the fact that they sold their souls for a political partnership with the amoral eco-activists, for whom lying is just a means to an end to solve their need for an ecological disaster narrative. Imaginary if necessary!
They were really a match made in heaven as the Left lies as well on economic matters as the Eco-loonies do on environmental issues. The reality is that the environmental issues are pretty much solved. We need to work on oceans management and fisheries and then some maintenance based on ACCURATE SCIENCE on other issues.

The Democrats are just using their old tricks. In the 2006 midterms they recruited and ran candidates that were ex-military and on a platform of getting us out of Iraq and, wait for it, ending deficit spending and reducing the national debt. As soon as they were again in the majority of course they did neither instead began increasing deficit spending.

The Democrats want to be back in power. Contrary to the national news media the power in Washington is with Congress (and the rank and file in the federal agencies). Since 1932 Democrats have controlled Washington 75% of the time. Either they held majorities in both Houses of Congress or their minorities were so large, especially in the Senate, that Republicans could do nothing without a few Democrats crossing the aisle. Starting with the 2007 Congress any Democrat crossing the aisle without permission from the leadership quickly found themselves to be back benchers.

Two of the most shocking losses for the Democrats the last election was Pennsylvania and West Virginia, long safe Democratic states. Appealing to the miners and rough necks is certainly no change in Democrats beliefs about CAGW. If they regain the majority they will back to their same hard core position. The Democrats depend on their voters not paying attention and the news media not reporting. Staff in the federal agencies will again believe they are totally protected.

Noisy Democrats are interested in The Resistance. It means hate of Donald Trump, the GOP, free speech and Russia, not necessarily in that order.

Read Tweeter. It’s TERRIFYING. Some are purely Stalinist. They see Russia as Stalin’s West and want an iron curtain against speech from Russians.

They get their ideas from Russia-obsessed geopolitical ineptness providers like Garry Kasparov.

Democrats hate climate change as an accessory to hating the GOP, Donald Trump…

The Dem base got to love the intelligence agencies the leftist base used to despise. The change in political climate is obvious and it’s accelerating.

If you could link climate change to Russia, they might care more about it.

I wonder if they can get to support Bt toxin producing GMO crops, glyphosate resistant crops, Roundup and Monsanto if then learn that Russia banned GMO seeds.
