Climate Shakedown: Iran Demands Their Share of Paris Agreement Climate Cash

Flag of Iran

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

Iran’s deputy environment chief Karim Shafie has warned that Iran’s participation in the Paris Agreement is at risk if they don’t get their climate money.

Is Iran pulling out of Paris Agreement?

By Maryam Qarehgozlou

May 20, 2018

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif signed the Paris Agreement on climate change during a ceremony at the United Nations headquarters in New York, April 22, 2016.

“However, the agreement was brought before the Guardian Council, but the council did not approve it and proposed amendments, so the deal is now being hammered out in agriculture, water and natural resources group of the Majlis,” ISNA quoted Karim Shafie, deputy environment chief for legal affairs, as saying on Saturday.

As Shafie said, Iran has submitted Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) to the UNFCCC committing to cut the greenhouse gas emissions by 4% percent in 2030. However, subject to termination and non-existence of unfair and brutal sanctions, availability of international resources in the form of financial support and technology transfer, exchange of carbon credits, accessibility of bilateral or multilateral implementation mechanisms, transfer of clean technologies as well as capacity building, Iran has the potential of mitigating greenhouse gas emission up to 12%.

“By ratifying the Paris agreement, Iran should make commitments which might put the country into significant expenses,” the deputy environment chief said.

There are proponents and opponents of the agreement in Iran, he said, adding, those who are opposing the deal believe that ratifying the deal would carry considerable costs, and the costs should be funded by developed countries or international entities.

On the other hand those who are advocating the deal believe that the deal would help Iran to mitigate environmental pollutants and that “we” can mitigate greenhouse gas emission in sectors which may not carry high costs.

He further suggested that there are some concerns the deal may “act against our national interest” and that’s why “we should proceed with extreme caution”.

“We should be wary of not being forced to make and legally binding commitments which may later result in more sanctions and penalties for us,” he warned.

Personally I believe Iran’s ongoing high level support for global terrorism, and the exposure of Iran’s brazen lies about their clandestine nuclear weapons programme are higher priority geopolitical issues than any CO2 emissions cuts the Iranian government was offering. But maybe thats just me.

Oh right, Bibi’s dodgy dossier. Of course that is not brazen lies. I mean, it’s not like Nathanyahou or Mossad would ever mislead anyone is it?
However, you are correct. Those trying to foment more war and conflict in the M.E. is a much bigger issue than fake AGW agenda.

Obama gave them 150 Billion in real cash on a planeload, there are protests going on in Iran the MSM isn’t reporting on that may very well topple the regime. With the new sanctions they are at a tipping point.

And since Obarmy was not allowed to give Iran dollars (some law or other) he arranged for aircraft to shuttle between Switzerland and Iran, carrying palet-loads of European cash. And the Swiss said thank you (or kerrrchinggg)….!!
The trouble with Obarmy is that he backed the Muslim Brotherhood on every occasion – in the name of ‘democracy’ – in Libya, Tunisia, Egypt and Syrya. But this is not what the people wanted. The intelligentsia knew that their semi-secular military dictatorships were far more preferable than the proposed religio-fasc.ist administrations of the Muslim Brotherhood.
But when the people protested about Obarmy, the biased western media would not carry the story. They were all ‘on message’, that the Arab Spring was all about democracy, when Obarmy knew all along that it was really about empowering the Muslim Brotherhood.

Obama “only” gave the Mad Mullahs about $1.5 billion in cash. The $150 billion was money that had been frozen in U.S. banks for many years and Obama released this money to them upon them signing the nuke agreement.
As such, Obama became the biggest enabler of radical Islamic terrorism in world history.
I’m surprised Obama didn’t give the Mad Mullahs their Climate Cash up front instead of making them wait.

TA you are full of bovine excrement. Obama did not “give the Mad Mullahs about $1.5 billion in cash.”

Congress did not appropriate these funds, and Obama did not have the authority to “give” anyone that amount of money. If you disagree with me, please post the Congressional bill that appropriated these funds. Thank you in advance.

Obama certainly approved, ordered, organised, and gave the $1.5 billion in cash to Iran. The more important question is: under what authority did he do so? Were his actions legal, or illegal?

Total myth.

This is true, for certain varieties of “true”. Obola gave Iran 1.5 billion in cash, gold, and coin – neatly stacked on pallets – from the money previously confiscated by the US government in return for their signature on a piece of paper. Thus Obola gave Iran 1.5 billion in unmarked bills from the US government, since that money was taken BECAUSE Iran was using it for drugs, money-laundering, and terrorism.

C. Paul, you are correct that Congress did not appropriate that $1.5 billion, but you are incorrect in saying Obama didn’t give it to the Mad Mullahs. You raise a good question though: What gave Obama the authority to do such a thing without the permission of Congress?

“The controversial $400 million payment that the U.S. sent to Iran in January, just as four American hostages were released—a planeload of Euros, Swiss Francs and other currencies—was only the first of three American cash deliveries to the country, the Obama administration reportedly told lawmakers on Tuesday.
During the 19 days following the first shipment, the U.S. sent two more planeloads of cash, totaling $1.3 billion, to Tehran, reports The Wall Street Journal. The two planeloads, which passed through Europe on Jan. 22 and Feb. 5, followed the same route as the earlier payment, a congressional aide who was briefed told the Journal. In the first payment, an Iranian cargo plane picked up the money in Geneva.”
Obama paid the Mad Mullahs $400 million in cash and then within a few more days he paid them $1.3 billion more in cash.

Obama, the anti-American extremist, gave away not only over $1.2 billion in cash, he allowed the Iranians to refloat their econiny and rearm their puppet armies and terror groups.
We confiscated Iranian assets after the Iranian thugocracy illegally took American diplomats hostage.
Obama gave them back the money with basically no enforceable commitments or even prospects for improvements in any aspect of Iranian behavior.
Obama was the worst most anti-American pretentious worthless corrupt twit we have ever had in the Presidency. And that includes comparing him to the current occupant .

Seems to me, if an account that has been frozen is released, the rightful owner of the count is now free to write a check. And the terribly awful devil’s pact 0bummer made then removed all sanctions, so the Mad Mullahs had access to all the world’s currencies. So if that was a true fact 0bummer spun from whole cloth there would have been no need to fly pallets of cash, currencies, gold and other easily negotiable instruments to anywhere. Something smells fishy about the whole story. So, C. Paul Pierett on May 21, 2018 at 3:39 pm and again at 4:05 pm, it’s on you now, the plane loads of cash have been verified, and 0bummer can’t deny that cash was sent at his direction, you tell us where he got it. Cuz I call B.S. on the “unfrozen accounts” B.S.

The trouble with Obama GIVING Iran some $1.4 billion in cash, is that it has gone towards the financing of 500,000 rockets for Hezbollah, who now has them pointed at lsrael. So the entire region is bocomming destabilised, because Obama wanted to GIVE his MusIim friends a ‘leaving office’ present. (And we know that Obama hated lsraeI.) This must really be the the most dangerous act by any US president, ever.

It was the worst government in Australian history, lurching from boom to bust to boom to bust over three long years. Scandal after scandal, massive accrual of debt. Minister after minister sacked for incompetence, seven of them Loone with a surname starting with C.

Others who were fired were terminated for conflicts of interest or failure to follow orders (insubordination).

Besides which Mossadegh wasn’t democratically elected. He stopped the election after results came in from the urban districts in which he was popular, but before the rural districts which would have overwhelmingly rejected him arrived.
The USSR only left northern Iran after WWII because Truman threatened to nuke the Red Army if Stalin didn’t withdraw, as the Brits had done from southern Iran. The Allies occupied Iran in 1941 because of the Shah’s pro-German stance.
Stalin however died in March 1953. Mossadegh wasn’t ousted until August.

The USA is not a terrorist state. It’s a world police using corrupting power to enhance whatever belongs to pax americana.
The most terrorist aspect is that it has never admitted human rights to people it finds its greatest enemies. That’s why parties like Wikileaks are in trouble. The Dims don’t like Assange. Nor the Reps. And it appears Sweden or the UK could be forced … and try to tell me the CIA is not planning to deep state murder him.

I beg to differ — It is not the USA that is the “greatest most active terrorist state.” It is that strange little parasitoid foreign country that’s called The District of Columbia to whom that description fits to a “t”. The role of the Citizens of the USA is to provide the money in the form of taxes to provide for the support of the actions of the criminal enterprise in The District of Columbia. Then there’s the US Federal Reserve system without which the rest of the criminal enterprise would be almost flat broke.

I’ve investigated Chomsky’s work at the libraries of Stanford University. Specifically I checked how Chomsky treats his citations and references.
What I found is that Chomsky lies systematically. He misrepresents meanings, he truncates quotes, he juxtaposes unrelated quotes to alter intended meaning, and so forth.
All of them are to the same purpose: to assassinate character, and to make his targets look callous, hardhearted, and racist.
Chomsky is a professional linguist. It’s impossible that the misrepresentations in his books are mistakes or accidental.
I found he only tells the truth about people when that truth serves to blacken the US.
I’ve published a couple of examples here.
If you want a more comprehensive rendition of Chomskyan lies, check out Paul Bogdanor’s list.

Sure – as long as the money doesn’t come from the US. The US didn’t sign on to the Paris climate agreement. Obama was careful to keep the US out of it. Only the Executive branch backed it, but that is insufficient per US law to commit the US.
So, let those countries who signed onto it legally according to the laws of their countries pay the Iranians.

Odd. April set a record for receipts into the federal tax collection system. And March was very high as well. Your “forecast” for that deficit estimate (as a result of the Trump tax cuts) was deliberate malfeasance by the democrats within the CBO.

It isn’t anti-semitic to criticize Israel. Despite its pretenses and lack of clearly defined borders, Israel does not represent all Jews, nor is it considered a deity “covenanted” homeland by all Jews.

Um…yes there is, actually. The Non-Proliferation Treaty says just that. It is unfortunate that mankind will have to suffer at least one mass use of such weapons before we will pull together and agree that not even people we like can have them. To that end, we will witness the masses reject the war hawks once and for all. It is the clerics, not the people in Iran who want to eliminate this or that person or group (like their own largest religious minority).

Iran’s Jews on life inside Israel’s ‘enemy state’: ‘We feel secure and happy’
The Jewish population in Iran has fallen from over 150,000 to less than 9,000 in the last few decades. The few that are stupid enough to not have left live there under extreme duress, will say anything the government wants them to say, they’re just pawns. To represent them as secure and happy is ridiculous, to use them as some sort of evidence that Jews in general are not supportive of Israel is puerile politics on your part.
It is not anti-Semitic to criticize Israel. That’s now what you do in this forum. You constantly and continuously twist the facts to support your clear and obvious hatred of Jews. You bring a lot to the debate when you focus on climate science. If you can’t do that, just go away.

Hi Joel,
everything mentioned in that article refers to weapons discarded before 1991 and declared as such.
Nothing supports the lie that Iraq had an active chemical weapons program in 2003. Nobody ever disputed that Iraq had a chemical weapons program (funded in part by the USA) in the past. The huge lie that caused hundreds of thousands of deaths was that there was an active program in 2003. Bush, Blair and assorted others lied and thousands of people died as a result.

Germy, you are the one lying here. The CIA and British intelligence both had intelligence indicating that Iraq had active programs in developing biological and nuclear weapons, and stores of chemical weapons. Even a Bush critic in the CIA found that Saddam was trying to acquire uranium from Niger. Iraq also had a history of actually using chemical weapons under the same regime. The fact that they had not completed those developments does not invalidate the concern.
Bush and Blair were not lying, they were stating what they believed to be true. In particular, Bush was basing his statement on the surety (“slam dunk”) expounded by Clinton-appointed CIA director George Tenet. In any case, there were many valid reasons to militarily depose Saddam Hussein. Concern about WMDs was just one part of that.

French leader told they didn’t believed what Bush and Blair were stating. And they were proven right. So the option are
* French had better intelligence. I say LOL.
* Bush and Blair knew just as much as french, that is, alleged WMD didn’t exist,
Irak had be a problem for years before 9/11, but before then, when asked if we should worry about Saddam WMD, US officials answered “no, everything is under control. We destroyed everything in the first war, and have people checking it stays so”. And then, after 9/11, a scapegoat was needed.
Now you may argue that ousting Saddam was the thing to do anyway, This is another matter. I am pretty sure Powell was in favor of the ousting, but that didn’t made him comfortable about the WMD lie for that, when he talked before the UN.

That was one of the original Fake News stories of the 21st Century. With respect to Iraq, I trusted David Kelly more than anyone else because of his personal integrity and he said there was nothing there – a statement he repeated emphatically, and he was proven correct.
We do not yet have such confirmation from Iran. We did have declarations and inspections where everything was supposedly revealed, then it turned out they had another secret facility with the programme carrying on. Quelle surprise. Trust should be earned, not given freely once distrust has been demonstrated.

“Bush and Blair were not lying, they were stating what they believed to be true.”
I believe that is correct. In fact, just about *every* intelligence service in the world thought Saddam had active WMD programs. Fed partly by the fact that Saddam promoted this idea himself and wanted people to think he was well armed, as a possible deterrence. Saddam’s generals were questioned after the war and many of them thought that Saddam had an active WMD program because that’s what Saddam told them.
So blowing up a big conspir@cy to lie over Saddam’s WMD’s doesn’t fit the facts.

See the supplier graphic at the old Iraq Watch website.

Let’s role the video tape:
“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”
– President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998 |
“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
– President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998 |
“We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction.”
– Madeline Albright, Feb 1, 1998 |
“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”
– Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998 |
“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.”
Letter to President Clinton.
– (D) Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, others, Oct. 9, 1998 |
“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”
– Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998 |
“Hussein has … chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”
– Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999 |
“We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them.”
– Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002 |
“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”
– Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 |
“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”
– Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 |
“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
– Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002 |
“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons…”
– Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002 |
“There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years … We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.”
– Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002 |
“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members … It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”
– Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002 |
“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.”
– Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002 |

HA, you would surely claim to be waiting on something else iffen those WMDs did “turn up”.
Germonio, …… iffen Saddam’s Iraq was not engaged in the “production of WMDs (weapons of mass destruction)”, …… then why in ell was the US giving Saddam everything he needed for manufacturing said WMDs? To wit:

Western help with Iraq’s WMD program
The United States exported support for Iraq during the Iran–Iraq war over $500 million worth of dual use exports to Iraq that were approved by the Commerce department. Among them were advanced computers, some of which were used in Iraq’s nuclear program.[21] The non-profit American Type Culture Collection and the Centers for Disease Control sold or sent biological samples of anthrax, West Nile virus and botulism to Iraq up until 1989, which Iraq claimed it needed for medical research. A number of these materials were used for Iraq’s biological weapons research program, while others were used for vaccine development.[22] For example, the Iraqi military settled on the American Type Culture Collection strain 14578 as the exclusive anthrax strain for use as a biological weapon, according to Charles Duelfer.[23]
In the late 1980s, the British government secretly gave the arms company Matrix Churchill permission to supply parts for Saddam Hussein’s weapons program, while British Industry supplied Gerald Bull as he developed the Iraqi supergun. In March 1990, a case of nuclear triggers bound for Iraq were seized at Heathrow Airport. The Scott Report uncovered much of the secrecy that had surrounded the Arms-to-Iraq affair when it became known.[24] The British government also financed a chlorine factory that was intended to be used for manufacturing mustard gas.[25]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_and_weapons_of_mass_destruction

Ell yes, both Democrats and Republicans in Congress knew Saddam was producing WMDs and that’s why they VOTED to give POTUS Bush authority to launch an invasion into Iraq to depose Saddam..

Iran’s government just wants more cash. They don’t care how they get it. Including themselves in the so-called ‘Climate Agreement’ is one way to get it. Eruos are fake money and they know it. the U$D is only a small step ahead of China’s yuan. If Iran could, it would demand gold bullion but that’s off in the future when printed money becomes worthless. And they can’t sell nuke stuff to Norkiland any more, because the Norks are making nice with the South, because THEY can’t steal cash any more from national bank accounts, the way they did the Bank of Bangla Desh’s $81 billioin (two years ago) from its account at the US Federal Reserve Bank in NYC.
Frankly, Iran would be better off mining Bitcoin, although I still don’t understand how that works. (And NO, please don’t explain it to me.) As it is, iran’s government simply looks at the Paris Climate doodad as a way to get cash money to buy stuff for its nuclear program.

From the article: “However, subject to termination and non-existence of unfair and brutal sanctions, availability of international resources in the form of financial support and technology transfer”
Well, brutal sanctions are being reimposed on Iran by the United States, according to a speech Secretary of State Pompeo just gave. He said Iran’s economy will suffer greatly if the Mad Mullahs do not change their course and their efforts to acquire nuclear weapons and missiles to deliver them.
In the past we have seen where both North Korea and Iran have had economic sanctions imposed against them by U.S. presidents and one would think that there probably couldn’t be any more sanctions left to impose. But No! Apparently there were plenty of other things past presidents could have done to pressure North Korea and Iran, but it took President Trump to actually bring real pressure to bear, and now Trump has North Korea coming to the bargaining table.
The Mad Mullahs of Iran are getting ready to learn this Trump lesson.
I noted that Secretary Pompeo was prompting the Iranian people to question the quality of the leadership they have been getting from their elected leaders and from the Mad Mullahs. Just the thing he and Trump should be doing: Encouraging the Iranian people to overthrow their Masters.
There is a lot of dissatisfaction among the Iranian people. It wouldn’t take much. I encourage Secretary Pompeo to continue agitating. The Iranian people need to make Iran great again.

What on earth gives Iran the right to demand monies from US taxpayers and to demand control of the foreign policy of a free nation such as the USA , especially when the nation, IRAN, has an appalling human rights reputation .
just one section from a recent report , on women’s rights, gives you the flavour of the place :
-“Women’s Rights
Iranian women face discrimination in personal status matters related to marriage, divorce, inheritance, and child custody. A woman needs her male guardian’s approval for marriage regardless of her age and cannot pass on her nationality to her foreign-born spouse or their children. Married women may not obtain a passport or travel outside the country without the written permission of their husbands.
The UN Children’s Rights Committee reported in March that the age of marriage for girls is 13, that sexual intercourse with girls as young as nine lunar years was not criminalized, and that judges had discretion to release some perpetrators of so-called honor killings without any punishment. Child marriage—though not the norm—continues, as the law allows girls to marry at 13 and boys at age 15, as well as at younger ages if authorized by a judge.
Authorities continue to prevent girls and women from attending certain sporting events, including men’s soccer and volleyball matches.
On July 31, 2016, President Rouhani suspended the hiring exam for public sector jobs to investigate apparent discrimination against women in the job market.”-
https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2017/country-chapters/iran
That such a nation, at will and by threats , can pick the pockets of taxpayers in other countries , countries that have long evolved to a more equitable society, is an appalling suggestion.

That’s a dubious poll.
Before the deal, about 60% of Americans didn’t want Congress to accept it. Other polls since the deal have found far less support than that found by CNN pollsters, with a large number of undecideds.

Well, in this case it’s because Uncle Sam has twice as big an economy as anyone else in the world, and Trump has decided to wield this power to bring down the mad dictators of the world. If the EU elites don’t like it, that’s tough.

The reason why Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons, is becaise they are Eschatologists – they WANT the world to end.
Only after Iran’s army has been defeated, and there have been two loud booms in the heavens (interpreted nowadays as nucIear weapons), will the Mahdi, the 12th immam, come out of the well, where he has been hiding for the last 1,200 years. Only then will Shia Islam rule supreme over the whole world.
This may sound like the ravings of the mentally derranged, but all of this is standard Shia philosophy. And the way to bring all of this about is to send a nucIear bomb onto lsrael, so that they retaliate and defeat the lranian army and cause two loud booms in the heavens.
The Cold War philosophy of M.A.D. only applies if you are dealing with rational people who want to live. As Sting said: “I hope the Russians love their children too…”

A short analysis of Shia eschatology in the current war in Syria (scroll down a bit.).
http://www.washingtoninstitute.org/fikraforum/view/dueling-at-the-end-of-times
Note that the lSlS magazine (available at all UK mosques) is called Dabiq. This is a small town in northern Syria, where the end-of-times battle between Christians and Muslims is supposed to take place. Dabiq is central to Islamic (Shia) eschatology, and central to the current war in Syria. Eschatology is STILL central to Shia philosophy. Read this BBC article.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-30083303
Note that the BBC will place these interesting snippets in its website, but never broadcast them on its news service. So the public have no idea what this battle in Syria is all about. Some think it is about modern politics of the Assad regime. Some think it is about oil pipelines. Some cite IsraeIi meddling. But none seem to realise that this battle in Syria is 1,200 years old, and goes back to the very origins of lslam.
(Assad’s Alawites are half Christian, celebrating Easter and Christmas, and so are regarded by Sunnis as apostates. Which is why the Syriac Christians have backed Assad 100% since 2011, because they know that Assad is their only saviour in the region. So Western politicians like Obama who want to back the Sunni ‘moderates’, are actually seeking the complete destruction of Christianity in Syria. I often wonder if these politicians are in the pay of Saudi Arabia.).

>>You confuse “religion” with “philosophy”…
Not at all. Philosophy is: “The study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence.”. (Oxford English Dictionary). And that is what religion tries to achieve. It may do it very badly, but it does indeed try to explain reality and existence.

The Iranians will claim that the only way they can cut “greenhouse gas” emissions is to develop nuclear power plants, so Europe needs to send them more billions to build them. Which they will promptly use to upgrade uranium into nuclear bombs that they can drop on Europe and/or Israel.
So the only sensible thing for Europe to do is to stop the “greenhouse gas” subsidies to Iran and let the Iranians emit an extra 4% of CO2, which is less bad than a mushroom cloud over Jerusalem.
But can anyone count on European bureaucrats to do something sensible?

A Russian company has signed a contract to build a nuclear plant in Iran. The Iranians want to develop their ability to generate electricity with nuclear energy and export natural gas.

Give them nothing because they wouldn’t do anything with the money to mitigate whatever warming is occurring anyway. In fact, it’s probably a safe bet that most of the Developing World recipients won’t do much with similar donations. And what happens if they take the money and don’t reduce their emissions? Do we get a refund?

Mr. Worral is turning into political activism, but not in a very impressive way to me, citing Bloomberg and Netanyahu as his trusted sources.
His link about Netanyahu is about old news and old data for the insiders, and insiders also know some interesting background of Netanyahu about matters nuclear. Mr. Worral is very sensitive to the climate hype, but clearly is very insensitive to political hype.
As these two rampant hypes are closely connected and go happily along in the media, maybe I can help Mr. Worral a bit by offering him a link in return.

I have a weak spot for Israel, but I also have a weak spot for honesty. I offer this link not for political reasons, but for factuality. Facts may be hars and unpleasant, but in the end it is all we have and all we should look for.

The irony is a bit rich. Even Iran must have the Paris Climate Accords “approved” by its Guardian Council before it is bound to the agreement. Whereas, President Obama, “The One”, simply blesses it and the US must be bound by it and fork over tens of billions of dollars. Too funny.

Exhibit A:
US President George Herbert Walker Bush,
September 12, 1991
Just months ago, American men and women in uniform risked their lives to defend Israelis in the face of Iraqi Scud missiles. And indeed, Desert Storm, while winning a war against aggression, also achieved the defeat of Israel’s most dangerous adversary. And during the current fiscal year alone and despite our own economic problems, the United States provided Israel with more than $4 billion in economic and military aid, nearly $1,000 for every Israeli man, woman and child, as well as with $400 million in loan guarantees to facilitate emigrant absorption.

I don’t like the way the debate is framed in the MSM: enriching uranium at high grade is NOT inherently evil. HEU is a useful product. There is zero doubt the Islamic Republic of Iran has evil in mind, but HEU is not evil.
We should build HEU reactors. HEU reactors are efficient and safe.
I wish we could say to other “nations” (Islamic Republic of Iran is not a nation, it’s a state BTW):
“We can do HEU because we are not evil, you are evil, there is no double standard here, STHU.”

That was about the most fatuous post I have seen in a while. Given their history, Rouhani and his puppeteer Khameni should be allowed only plastic spoons, removed after they finish eating.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has been unwilling to follow norms of international behavior since it’s formation, and only the Cold War and other international circumstances have prevented several other countries from declaring war on the Republic for it’s outrages.
