Hippocratic Oath vs. 'Hypocritic' Oath?

By Charles G. Battig

The National Institutes of Health website defines the Hippocratic Oath as “perhaps the most widely known of Greek medical texts.  It requires a new physician to swear upon a number of healing gods that he will uphold a number of professional ethical standards.  It also strongly binds the student to his teacher and the greater community of physicians with responsibilities similar to that of a family member.  It also does not explicitly contain the phrase, ‘First, do no harm,’ which is commonly attributed to it.”

As a physician, I found this admonition from ancient Greece and handed down to generations of medical school graduates, a valued moral and spiritual guide.  It can reasonably serve as a basic life guide no matter one’s chosen path.

In contrast to this oath and its combination of pragmatism, honesty, and idealism in the art and science of medical practice is the behavior of progressive elites.  What is to be made of the behavior of notable liberals such as Harvey Weinstein, ex-A.G. Eric Schneiderman, ex-PBS host Charlie Rose, ex-President Bill Clinton, the FBI duo of Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, comedian and ex-senator Al Franken, ex-National Intelligence director James Clapper, ex-FBI director Robert Mueller, eco-fanatic star Leonardo DiCaprio, ex-chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Rajendra K. Pachauri, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the MSM reporting of climate issues…this is an active and incomplete listing, quite obviously (no intended offense to any omitted from this list).

To varying degrees and in a variety of settings, these individuals have issued statements and exhibited behaviors that have contradicted their crafted overt persona and public image.  To be admired is their skill in public performances uttering falsehoods with a smile, or engaging in activities they condemn in others.  Better examples of the old adage “do as I say, not as I do” would be hard to find.  Peter Schweizer’s 2005 book of the same title deserves an update.

I posit that the progressive public and private education systems have instilled in past and current graduates a new oath: the “Hypocritic Oath.”  Liberals seem to have mastered the underlying precepts, and nominal Republicans have been fast learners.

I would love to see any evidence that liberals are more corrupt than conservatives? In the UK at least a quick scan of the records suggests that
there have been more corrupt Tory politicians than Labour ones – although it is a close race.

Note that conservative and liberal mean entirely different things in the UK and Europe versus the United States. A UK conservative is still a US liberal.

There are no conservatives in the UK government. The two major parties are, indeed, “two cheeks of the same arse.” Look at the vote for the 2008 Climate Act: 483 MPs voted for; only three voted nay.

Jorge – One could argue that there are no liberals in the US government. Look at the vote for the Patriot act – 357 voted for, 66 voted against in the house and it passed 98-1 in the Senate.

Surely you are aware that the liberals would vote much different today as they have become the champion of women abusers, terrorists, illegal felons, and demeaning statements about others.

By “…the records…” do you mean the newspapers that hit your doorstep every morning? Or the nightly news on your television? Given the Lame Stream Media propensity for ignoring scandals and faults by Democrats when at all possible, and highlighting every stutter or “meaningful” pause in a speech by a Republican, even manufacturing scandal and racism where clearly none exist, I would suggest the corruption among D’s is at least 3 and possibly as much as 10 times worse than corruption among R’s.

used $84000 of tax payer money to settle the case, had promised to repay it and has now stated that he
will not after getting a $160000 job as a lobbyist.
Against there are dedicated and honest politicians on both sides and also scumbags as well. I doubt that there is any significant difference in ratio of the two depending on the party.

The issue is not “corruption”. The issue is hypocrisy. Doing exactly what you preach against. And yes, there are rare instances where American Conservatives do it. But the majority is practiced on the left. Just look at the racism, misogyny, homophobia, and xenophobia.
But do not look to the MSM for the information. After all, they are liberal and the leaders in the hypocrisy arena.

On a side note, it boggles the mind that in ever-increasing numbers, prestigious healthcare institutions are jumping on the evidence-free “alternative medicine” bandwagon, despite the fact that offering such ridiculous crap is in direct violation — on many levels — of medical ethics, informed consent, anti-fraud laws, and consumer protection.

Not sure what you’re referring to with “alternative medicine” since it includes a lot, some of which is a problem and some of which is quite forward thinking. But the main offender in evidence-free medicine by far, from what I can see, is mainstream chronic care medicine and health advice. Acute care is usually a miracle we can all be thankful for, but chronic care basically does a bad job of fixing problems its recommendations helped create. A quick sampler of evidence-free or counter-evidence recommendations:
– Recommendation: Eat a bunch of small meals. This has now been shown to be of little or no benefit. It was recommended without good evidence.
– Recommendation: Ignore chronically elevated insulin and inject it to “manage” blood sugar. This is increasingly shown to be the single unifying factor in chronic illness. Many studies have shown a strong association between elevated insulin and cancer, dementia, diabetes and others
– Recommendation: Taking vitamins just gives you “expensive urine”. In reality more and more common vitamin and mineral deficiencies are being defined, magnesium, B12 and Vitamin D being in the news recently
– Recommendation: Replace naturally occurring fats with vegetable oils. The best studies have not shown this to be of benefit except on a very short-term basis which is reversed over time.
– Recommendation: Use sunscreen . The evidence however has shown that moderate mid-day sun exposure is net beneficial in a number of ways. Vitamin D and nitric oxide production being two of the mechanisms
I could go on and on about other things that health “authorities” have recommended without good evidence such as low fat diets, low salt diets, statins to reduce cholesterol (which have never been convincing shown to significantly increase lifespan or healthspan, possibly PSA screening, the need to eat breakfast, stents as a preventative CV measure etc. but hopefully you get the idea. I’d say we need an alternative to all that.

Your list is why I don’t like to generalize about widely divergent methods. I think most people who are seeking to maximize their health and longevity (and usually have had some sort of health crisis that caused them to put their skeptic hats on with regard to mainstream chronic-care advice) use the principles of Functional Medicine as the core of their thinking, specifically the principle that the starting place for good health is to remove the things which cause bad health. That is why I don’t use the term “alternative medicine” but rather the term “good medicine”. Most of the people who have exposed the lack of evidence for the things like what I described in my previous post have come from this line of thinking and the recent evidence for major break-thoughs, like last year’s study showing great benefit from the Paleo Auto-Immune protocol which cured over 70% (IIRC) of people in the study who had failed conventional treatments, have come from Functional Medicine principles, whether it was called that or not.
So, if you’re going to bash approaches that are not “evidence based”, start with all the unsupported approaches pushed by the mainstream such as what I mentioned above. For example, reading the many critiques of the AHA’s continued attempt to defend its position on supporting the use of vegetable oils and sugar-centric diets, such as the one from Chris Masterjohn, would be a good place to start.

Yes, that gets me cranky also.
There are many examples of advertising and marketing dominant over scientific study of commodities. The non-fertilizer effects of seaweed and its extracts, the non-dirty skins cleansed by cosmetics, the non-medical claims of natural therapies, the mysticism of acupuncture. the non-healing power of most herbal remedies, the non-toxic components removed or not from the human body by detox agents, the well population being treated to more wellness by mental processes, organic farming being promoted when it is a tragic loss-maker, the non-appearance of a cancer epidemic forecast because of man-made chemical increases, the incompatibility of any number of favoured diets claiming the best diet crown, the non-healing nature of excess vitamin consumption, by quantity and variety, gaining strength from sitting under a triangle, the non-healing power of mineral crystals, the non-toxic nature of anything labelled chemical, water divining — on and on and on it goes, with the gullible (mostly) younger audience not even suspecting they are being conned mightily every day. This is an odd list. I am not sure that James Clapper or Robert Mueller should be classified as liberals. Nor is it clear what Peter Strzok and Lisa Page have done that warrants their place on the list – if sending text messages to your lover makes you a liberal and a hypocrite to boot then most people would end up pleading guilty.

At the LEAST, it is crystal clear that Strzok and Page calculated leaks of classified information. This is FAR below the expected behavior of any FBI agent. no question about it.
It is NOT easy to review because the media are complicit in failing to cover and report what is going on.
But in the long run, we the Public WILL get access to OUR information that had no grounds for being redacted or withheld. You will eat your words.

So if it is crystal clear that they have been leaking information why have they not been charged with anything? Surely being innocent until proven guilty should apply to them as much as anyone especially given no one has charged them with any crime. Personally I would have said going after Clapper for lying to congress about spying on millions of citizens would be more worthy of your anger.

They flipped. Bigger fish are being sought.
But anyways: Geronimo: are you challenging my statement that their own words show that they orchestrated leaks of FBI confidential information to mainstream media? You might want to go explore what all they were discussing in their back-and-forth texts.
On top of all of that, Geronimo, you assert that Page and Strzok were lover-birds, as known by their texts.
Um, could you post a link to those texts that make the case that these two were lovebirds? Among all of the texting between those two I have read, I have not come across the lovebird texts.

Well yes. Their texts appear to show that they had advanced warning of stories that were going to appear in the media. This is a very different matter from showing that they leaked information themselves. It could just as easily suggest that one of them had an informant in the press, that they had hacked the newspaper concerned or had spoken to the FBI agent who had leaked the material.

Germy’s spinning falsehoods and distraction, again.
Falsehoods that requires absolute blindness towards Mueller’s and Clappers active partisanship; both in allegedly apply the law, collecting ravening liberals to serves a Special Prosecutor assistants or their ignoring blatant illegalities.
Then germy spins fables about Strzok and Page while pretending they are innocent lovers.
Page and Strzok were active participants in the high level corruption(s) enveloping FBI and DOJ.
Strzok, was deeply involved with ensuring designated queen HRC got exonerated during several probes into her affairs; e.g. Clinton Foundation & State Department “quid pro quo” malfeasance, ensuring HRC, Mills and Abedin were not investigated, only interviewed, briefly.
One of Strzok’s most infamous abuse of law is when he rewrote Comey’s HRC exoneration for mishandling classified information to remove any possible hint of criminal activity.
When in doubt, read the criminal referral letter Congress sent to Attorney General Sessions, listing evidence, the law that was broken and recommended investigation and prosecution; https://www.scribd.com/document/376738736/Congressional-Criminal-Referral-to-DOJ

The letter you mention is exceedingly light on references to Strzok and Page’s activities. The only specific they mention is the “Mr. Strzok texts Ms. Page to tell her that, in fact, senior officials had decided to water down the reference to President Obama to ‘another government official'”. This is hardly a damming indictment of Strzok and Page and doesn’t even suggest that they had any part in the watering down. There would appear to be nothing in that letter to suggest that Strzok and Page have engaged in any criminal activity.
Furthermore why has not the attorney general of the USA acted on this letter if it is as damming as you think? Sessions is as far as I know a Republican and I am guessing a Trump supporter.

Now germy claims to understand American Justice and words and meanings throughout America’s Constitutional, Congressional and Judicial systems.
Utterly bogus, germy!
A) Congress is not responsible for prosecuting crimes. However, Congress’s investigations may uncover or reveal illegal activities. Congress may decide to bring these to the attention of the Attorney General and then forwards a criminal referral the Department of Justice for action.
Nowhere does the Congressional committee define or detail the entire record of laws broken.
Instead, when Congress encounters serious breaches of law or ethics and sends a criminal referral recommendation to the Department of Justice; they are declaring that DOJ must take action and that Congress will be watching.
No matter how germy pretends to belittle the criminal referral, it is a major action moving the wheels of justice.
When Inspector General encountered illegal activities, he notified Attorney General Sessions. AG Sessions appointed a prosecutor, Huber. Huber is a prosecutor from Utah and unconnected to the swamp.
Huber assembled a team of investigators and prosecutors that is actively investigating various lines of discovery emanating from the DOJ/FBI/CIA corruptions.
The thing is, criminal investigations are secret; as are grand juries. Unlike the open information sieves the corrupt DOJ/FBI operated, AG Session’s investigations have maintained their secrecy.
Soon after the IG’s report is released, expect Huber’s indictments of suspected lawbreakers to be issued.
Summarizing,
• germy’s bogus interpretation of what constitutes a crime gets zero traction under American law. It’s pure fake news.
• Investigations are underway, subpoenas and indictments will follow. Congress and America are watching carefully and expecting American justice to finally become justice again.
• High ranking members of the FBI and DOJ have:
– • Retired and fleeing, in a vain attempt to escape justice.
– • Fired and awaiting justice to proceed.
– • retained, perhaps temporarily, and incommunicado, because they have cooperating plea deals.
There are multiple investigations. That letter from Congress raised serious issues that the Department of Justice must resolve. DOJ resolves issues by investigations followed by grand juries and prosecutions or by exoneration.
• HRC’s free pass for mishandled classified material? That issue, raised by Congress, will not be repeated.
• HRC’s free pass for State Department/Clinton Foundation quid pro quo actions? That’s a very juicy issue included in the list of investigations. HRC’s own emails reveal quid pro quo and Clinton Foundation activities.
• HRC’s various other insalubrious activities may all be under investigation right now. Orange may be her clothing colors soon.
Mueller’s investigation is imploding. Over a year of investigating with a huge, very partisan, team has uncovered trivialities. Trivialities that are turning out to not be not under whatever authority Mueller is operating under.
A fault that poisons every crime Mueller alleges for alleged crimes not assigned to the Special Prosecutor.
Between Judicial Watch, Congress’ oversight committees, emails, tweets, phone calls, texts, unmaskings, records, Office of the Inspector General, cooperating witnesses; evidence has been solidly established that implicate Obama’s Administration, the FBI, DOJ, Democrat National Committee, CIA, representatives, senators, etc. etc.
The only sure thing is that the price of popcorn will rise sometime this summer.
Once America’s DOJ is flushed of corrupt insiders and justice once again operates properly, then other branches of Federal Government and perhaps state governments will get reviewed.
e.g. EPA’s fleeing reprobates, IRS reprobates, BATF, NASA/NOAA, DOE can all expect close observation.
Those embedded activists? Think orange!
Sessions may be performing terribly in personnel actions; but he is performing impeccably regarding legal affairs. There is at least one Prosecution team in operation and there are likely to be more prosecution teams in action that the public and Congress have not been told about, yet.

JPGuthrie
May 14, 2018 7:33 pm

I think of of politicians identifying as demand or republicans as playing something like the “good cop, bad cop” routine. The goal of the cops playing the routine is to get what they need from the person they are questioning. The goal of democrats and republicans is more or less the same thing. Politicians of either party play their roles to get elected or re-elected, the only real party in Washington is that of self-interest. Ideology is for idiots, and should be called “idiotology.” Those in Washington who call themselves “conservative republicans” have done nothing “conservative” with their new majorities in every branch of government. They are just as eager to tax and spend as their so-called “liberal” colleagues. The power to legislate and spend make politicians rich. More rules and regulations mean more loopholes and exemptions, which means more campaign contributions and kickbacks. There are two things we need in Washington, more independents, and term limits.

With the significant increase in genetically modified organisms or “GMO” crops (e.g., RoundUp Ready® crops),, the
wide-spread use of the herbicide glyphosate (i.e., RoundUp® herbicide) has raised concerns. Glyphosate may not
break down in the soil after contacting plants. The herbicide kills many types of soil microbes, including microbes
that make micronutrients plant-available. Glyphosate strongly chelates micronutrients in the soil, including selenium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, nickel, cobalt and zinc. Thus, the use of GMO crops can decrease herbicide costs at the expense of plant health. “Liberal” and “Progressive” trace to von Hayek of the London School of Economics after WWII. Hayek praised Mandeville as a “master mind,” as the inventor of modern psychology, and as the true intellectual forbearer of David Hume, Adam Smith, Jeremy Bentham, Carl Savigny and Charles Darwin, and that Mandeville’s poem, “The Fable of the Bees, Private Vices Public Benefits” was perhaps the greatest philosophical treatise ever composed. He credited Mandeville with inspiring Adam Smith’s argument for the unbridled free market.
Hayek taught economic benefits “spontaneously in an unknowable way” oozes from private vices. The entire cabal attempting a cold coup are exactly the “Grumbling Hive” of Mandeville. I certainly agree that bigwigs are too often given the “gilded tour” of the Potemkin Villages and many are too stupid or corrupt to realize it – we had a socialist leader of the NDP political party return from East Germany and the traitor extolled it as the “economic model for Canada”, circa the early 1980’s. I was there in 1989 just before the Berlin Wall fell, and it was a sh!thole. Details below.
I was also in Cuba under Fidel, for a Board meeting, and it was also a failed state, economically poorer but less repressive at that time than East Germany.

Here is something I wrote long ago on the subject.
This article is true. I’ve also been to Cuba, and it is a cesspool of poverty and degradation (Trudeau boys, please take note).
What is truly interesting is that there are still apologists for Castro and Cuba here in Canada, even as Fidel himself has recently admitted that Cuba is a failed state.
They are probably the same “useful idiots” who said that Communist East Germany was a good model for Canada to emulate. I seem to recall several former NDP leaders who tried to sell us that line of BS (the names Broadbent and Lewis come to mind).
I travelled to East Germany, going through the Berlin Wall at Checkpoint Charlie in 1989, shortly before the Wall fell. East Germany was a cesspool too. While not as materially poor as Castro’s Cuba, it was an even more vicious police state where neighbour spied upon neighbour, and nobody felt safe from the Stasi secret police. Those who tried to escape were shot, and allowed to bleed to death in “no-man’s land” between the many barbed-wire fences that formed “the Wall”.
Epilogue
The last person to be shot and killed while trying to cross the border from East to West Germany was Chris Gueffroy on February 6, 1989. He was 20 years old. Rest in peace, kid.

No mention there of Mandeville’s Grumbling Hive, private Vices, quotes from Hayek, the von Mises “hero” of the Austrian School. Interestingly Keynes and Hayek both of the London School of economics – talk about the old Venetian “playing all sides” caper. Every kid knows :
Jack Spratt could eat no fat,
The wife could eat no lean,
So between them both
they killed the Goat
and licked the Plate Clean.
That’s how liberal progressives loot…
That Austrian School entrenched in Chicago Uni is the source of the GOP nutty economics. Even otherwise sound Ron Paul, author of von Mises bio. tows the LSE line. The strraw dog of “socialist” Cold War economics ist just that, a straw dog.
Problem is, lowering taxes on the Grumbling Hive does not spontaneously, unknowably ooze economic growth – which Trump is about to find out. The irony is also that taxing private Vice, HFT transactions, will not either. Look how Hayek and Keynes , the Spratt’s, have ruined the USA.
Trump does mention the American System of Carey, the real target of the LSE Spratt’s, to their utter horror.
