The National Institutes of Health website defines the Hippocratic Oath as “perhaps the most widely known of Greek medical texts. It requires a new physician to swear upon a number of healing gods that he will uphold a number of professional ethical standards. It also strongly binds the student to his teacher and the greater community of physicians with responsibilities similar to that of a family member. It also does not explicitly contain the phrase, ‘First, do no harm,’ which is commonly attributed to it.”
As a physician, I found this admonition from ancient Greece and handed down to generations of medical school graduates, a valued moral and spiritual guide. It can reasonably serve as a basic life guide no matter one’s chosen path.
In contrast to this oath and its combination of pragmatism, honesty, and idealism in the art and science of medical practice is the behavior of progressive elites. What is to be made of the behavior of notable liberals such as Harvey Weinstein, ex-A.G. Eric Schneiderman, ex-PBS host Charlie Rose, ex-President Bill Clinton, the FBI duo of Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, comedian and ex-senator Al Franken, ex-National Intelligence director James Clapper, ex-FBI director Robert Mueller, eco-fanatic star Leonardo DiCaprio, ex-chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Rajendra K. Pachauri, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the MSM reporting of climate issues…this is an active and incomplete listing, quite obviously (no intended offense to any omitted from this list).
To varying degrees and in a variety of settings, these individuals have issued statements and exhibited behaviors that have contradicted their crafted overt persona and public image. To be admired is their skill in public performances uttering falsehoods with a smile, or engaging in activities they condemn in others. Better examples of the old adage “do as I say, not as I do” would be hard to find. Peter Schweizer’s 2005 book of the same title deserves an update.
I posit that the progressive public and private education systems have instilled in past and current graduates a new oath: the “Hypocritic Oath.” Liberals seem to have mastered the underlying precepts, and nominal Republicans have been fast learners.

There are no conservatives in the UK government. The two major parties are, indeed, “two cheeks of the same arse.” Look at the vote for the 2008 Climate Act: 483 MPs voted for; only three voted nay.
Jorge – One could argue that there are no liberals in the US government. Look at the vote for the Patriot act – 357 voted for, 66 voted against in the house and it passed 98-1 in the Senate.

By “…the records…” do you mean the newspapers that hit your doorstep every morning? Or the nightly news on your television? Given the Lame Stream Media propensity for ignoring scandals and faults by Democrats when at all possible, and highlighting every stutter or “meaningful” pause in a speech by a Republican, even manufacturing scandal and racism where clearly none exist, I would suggest the corruption among D’s is at least 3 and possibly as much as 10 times worse than corruption among R’s.
An easy check would be the conviction rate of the two groups.
Or the number who have been forced to resign do to their shenanigans.

The issue is not “corruption”. The issue is hypocrisy. Doing exactly what you preach against. And yes, there are rare instances where American Conservatives do it. But the majority is practiced on the left. Just look at the racism, misogyny, homophobia, and xenophobia.

On a side note, it boggles the mind that in ever-increasing numbers, prestigious healthcare institutions are jumping on the evidence-free “alternative medicine” bandwagon, despite the fact that offering such ridiculous crap is in direct violation — on many levels — of medical ethics, informed consent, anti-fraud laws, and consumer protection.
Not sure what you’re referring to with “alternative medicine” since it includes a lot, some of which is a problem and some of which is quite forward thinking. But the main offender in evidence-free medicine by far, from what I can see, is mainstream chronic care medicine and health advice. Acute care is usually a miracle we can all be thankful for, but chronic care basically does a bad job of fixing problems its recommendations helped create. A quick sampler of evidence-free or counter-evidence recommendations:
– Recommendation: Eat a bunch of small meals. This has now been shown to be of little or no benefit. It was recommended without good evidence.
– Recommendation: Ignore chronically elevated insulin and inject it to “manage” blood sugar. This is increasingly shown to be the single unifying factor in chronic illness. Many studies have shown a strong association between elevated insulin and cancer, dementia, diabetes and others
– Recommendation: Taking vitamins just gives you “expensive urine”. In reality more and more common vitamin and mineral deficiencies are being defined, magnesium, B12 and Vitamin D being in the news recently
– Recommendation: Replace naturally occurring fats with vegetable oils. The best studies have not shown this to be of benefit except on a very short-term basis which is reversed over time.
– Recommendation: Use sunscreen . The evidence however has shown that moderate mid-day sun exposure is net beneficial in a number of ways. Vitamin D and nitric oxide production being two of the mechanisms
I could go on and on about other things that health “authorities” have recommended without good evidence such as low fat diets, low salt diets, statins to reduce cholesterol (which have never been convincing shown to significantly increase lifespan or healthspan, possibly PSA screening, the need to eat breakfast, stents as a preventative CV measure etc. but hopefully you get the idea. I’d say we need an alternative to all that.

Your list is why I don’t like to generalize about widely divergent methods. I think most people who are seeking to maximize their health and longevity (and usually have had some sort of health crisis that caused them to put their skeptic hats on with regard to mainstream chronic-care advice) use the principles of Functional Medicine as the core of their thinking, specifically the principle that the starting place for good health is to remove the things which cause bad health. That is why I don’t use the term “alternative medicine” but rather the term “good medicine”. Most of the people who have exposed the lack of evidence for the things like what I described in my previous post have come from this line of thinking and the recent evidence for major break-thoughs, like last year’s study showing great benefit from the Paleo Auto-Immune protocol which cured over 70% (IIRC) of people in the study who had failed conventional treatments, have come from Functional Medicine principles, whether it was called that or not.
So, if you’re going to bash approaches that are not “evidence based”, start with all the unsupported approaches pushed by the mainstream such as what I mentioned above. For example, reading the many critiques of the AHA’s continued attempt to defend its position on supporting the use of vegetable oils and sugar-centric diets, such as the one from Chris Masterjohn, would be a good place to start.

There are many examples of advertising and marketing dominant over scientific study of commodities. The non-fertilizer effects of seaweed and its extracts, the non-dirty skins cleansed by cosmetics, the non-medical claims of natural therapies, the mysticism of acupuncture. the non-healing power of most herbal remedies, the non-toxic components removed or not from the human body by detox agents, the well population being treated to more wellness by mental processes, organic farming being promoted when it is a tragic loss-maker, the non-appearance of a cancer epidemic forecast because of man-made chemical increases, the incompatibility of any number of favoured diets claiming the best diet crown, the non-healing nature of excess vitamin consumption, by quantity and variety, gaining strength from sitting under a triangle, the non-healing power of mineral crystals, the non-toxic nature of anything labelled chemical, water divining — on and on and on it goes, with the gullible (mostly) younger audience not even suspecting they are being conned mightily every day. This is an odd list. I am not sure that James Clapper or Robert Mueller should be classified as liberals. Nor is it clear what Peter Strzok and Lisa Page have done that warrants their place on the list – if sending text messages to your lover makes you a liberal and a hypocrite to boot then most people would end up pleading guilty.

Well yes. Their texts appear to show that they had advanced warning of stories that were going to appear in the media. This is a very different matter from showing that they leaked information themselves. The letter you mention is exceedingly light on references to Strzok and Page’s activities. The only specific they mention is the “Mr. Strzok texts Ms. Page to tell her that, in fact, senior officials had decided to water down the reference to President Obama to ‘another government official'”. This is hardly a damming indictment of Strzok and Page and doesn’t even suggest that they had any part in the watering down. There would appear to be nothing in that letter to suggest that Strzok and Page have engaged in any criminal activity.
Furthermore why has not the attorney general of the USA acted on this letter if it is as damming as you think? Sessions is as far as I know a Republican and I am guessing a Trump supporter.

A) Congress is not responsible for prosecuting crimes. However, Congress’s investigations may uncover or reveal illegal activities. Congress may decide to bring these to the attention of the Attorney General and then forwards a criminal referral the Department of Justice for action.
Nowhere does the Congressional committee define or detail the entire record of laws broken.
Instead, when Congress encounters serious breaches of law or ethics and sends a criminal referral recommendation to the Department of Justice; they are declaring that DOJ must take action and that Congress will be watching.
No matter how germy pretends to belittle the criminal referral, it is a major action moving the wheels of justice.
When Inspector General encountered illegal activities, he notified Attorney General Sessions. AG Sessions appointed a prosecutor, Huber. Huber is a prosecutor from Utah and unconnected to the swamp.
Huber assembled a team of investigators and prosecutors that is actively investigating various lines of discovery emanating from the DOJ/FBI/CIA corruptions.

The goal of the cops playing the routine is to get what they need from the person they are questioning. The goal of democrats and republicans is more or less the same thing. Politicians of either party play their roles to get elected or re-elected, the only real party in Washington is that of self-interest. Ideology is for idiots, and should be called “idiotology.” Those in Washington who call themselves “conservative republicans” have done nothing “conservative” with their new majorities in every branch of government. I travelled to East Germany, going through the Berlin Wall at Checkpoint Charlie in 1989, shortly before the Wall fell. East Germany was a cesspool too. While not as materially poor as Castro’s Cuba, it was an even more vicious police state where neighbour spied upon neighbour, and nobody felt safe from the Stasi secret police. Those who tried to escape were shot, and allowed to bleed to death in “no-man’s land” between the many barbed-wire fences that formed “the Wall”.
Epilogue
The last person to be shot and killed while trying to cross the border from East to West Germany was Chris Gueffroy on February 6, 1989. He was 20 years old. Rest in peace, kid.
