#ExxonKnew leader Eric Schneiderman resigns in disgrace amid physical abuse allegations

From the New York Times: New York’s attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, has resigned, hours after multiple women accused him of being physically abusive.

Eric T. Schneiderman, the New York State attorney general who rose to prominence as an antagonist of the Trump administration, abruptly resigned on Monday night hours after The New Yorker reported that four women had accused him of physically assaulting them.

Read it all here: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/07/nyregion/new-york-attorney-general-eric-schneiderman-abuse.html

WUWT readers may recall he’s the bozo (along with Bill McKibben and Al Gore) that dreamt up the “Exxon Knew” libel outfit, and got a bunch of other Attorney Generals to sign on to the scam.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and a coalition of attorneys general, supported by former Vice President Al Gore, vowed on March 29, 2016, to hold fossil fuel companies accountable if their words and deeds on climate change had crossed into illegality.

Al Gore had his masseuse incidents:

https://www.businessinsider.com.au/two-more-women-accuse-al-gore-of-assault-2010-7

Pachauri left the IPCC over sexual harassment issues:

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/02/24/un-ipcc-climate-head-rajendra-pachauri-resigns-amid-sexual-harassment-allegations/

Eric Worrall notes in an email to me:

“Quite a string of high profile alleged sex abuse cases associated with leading climate figures. “Moral License” in action?”

These climate chumps can’t seem to contain themselves, be it ego or their pants.

Hmmm, I know people will disagree with me on this, but I think it’s a little off to conflate aggressive and / or sexual behaviour with their political stance.
Idiots are idiots, abusers are abusers, no matter what side of the fence they come from.

A man who will abuse women is much more likely to abuse his position of power as well … and Schneiderman has assuredly done both.

And vice versa. It has a name – “the nobility disease.”
Above the law.
Not subject to any moral restraints, either, so long as they signal their virtue. In the old days, the noble could found a convent – and that made it just fine to enjoy their droits among the commoners thereafter.
The “Trump wave,” #MeToo, etc. are in my opinion more a revolt against the modern nobility than any specific ideology. So far, peaceful and lawful – here’s hoping it stays that way, and the guillotines do not start their grisly work once again – those get out of hand all too easily.

Thanks, Mango … but you’ll have to define what you are calling his “political stance” or “political leaning”. Is his support of the climate lunacy part of his “political stance? What about his prosecution of Harvey Weinberg?
How about his arrogant power grab in the Exxon lawsuit? Political?
Consider this article …

AG uses Exxon probe to further own political ambitions – Times Union

Mar 14, 2017 – Taking on national causes can also pay political dividends. Witness New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. He’s positioning himself as the leading Democrat AG to oppose President Trump’s policies, and he has not been shy about letting his political supporters know it. …

I fear that the distinction between power, climate, and politics is not as clear as you seem to think …
Best to you,

Just to be clear, I am not condoning his actions.
The guy is a hypocrite. His support of the #MeToo whilst abusing women campaign is reprehensible.
The point I am trying to make, clearly not very well, is his stance on climate change, Exxon, etc is irrelevant.
The guy is simply a scumbag especially while he excuses his behaviour as

In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity

.
Of course, this is not the way women see his abuse

Tanya Selvaratnam: Says Mr Schneiderman warned her he could have her followed and phone-tapped and said he would kill her if she broke up with him, all of which he denies. The Sri Lanka-born author and actor says Mr Schneiderman called her “brown slave”, adding: “Sometimes, he’d tell me to call him Master, and he’d slap me until I did.”

I have a suspicion that the issue may be both more and less complex than we think. Because I’ve been reading Chesterton.
Theorising before the facts are in is, of course, fatal to the deductive mind (S. Holmes (paraphrased)), while Feynman tells us that we need to start any investigation by guessing. I wonder whether the answer is simply that Mr Schneiderman moves in the sort of circles which worship and blindly follow the latest crazes.
This would explain why he attacks oil companies, and also why he is the target of sexual assault allegations. His female colleagues are simply following the latest fashion and accusing him of assault. They will probably accuse him of bullying as well, and incorrect recycling of plastic.
This comment is made, of course, with no data to go no. But it has the merit of being the most parsimonious explanation…

This slime is the latest in a long list of leaders of the left, not ordinary rank and file type folks: Thought leaders, political leaders, entertainment leaders, business leaders, media and press leaders…and they are pretty much all the most sanctimonious of the liberal scolds. Think of it, so many of them are without exaggeration clamorous moralizing scolds and wickedly depraved sociopaths.
The Jimmy Swaggert Effect on steroids.
I think we might as well take it is a given that the loudest and most sanctimonious of the virtue signaling finger pointers are in fact the ones who are desperately buying up indulgence credits in a desperate bid for absolution for their sins.
No need to wait for them to be caught. Or called out.
It is all of the loudest and most self righteous.
Schneiderman is a special case, infected with a very virulent strain of the JSE malady.
The lurid details being revealed are not simply scandalous…this guy is a multiple felon.
“She told me that her boyfriend of a year, Eric Schneiderman, the Attorney General of New York, has been choking, beating, and threatening her for the entirety of their relationship and that several times he threatened to have her killed if she ever tried to leave him. She said he knows that she has a lot of really damning information about him, his alcoholism, sexual deviance, and drug use, and she worries about her safety.”
Racist, woman beating, drug abusing, thieving, alcoholic rapist.
And his resignation and lame not really denials look damning.
“Manning Barish says that Schneiderman also took prescription tranquillizers [sic], and often asked her to refill a prescription that she had for Xanax, so that he could reserve “about half” the pills for himself. (Schneiderman’s spokesperson said that he has “never commandeered anyone’s medications.”) Sometimes in bed, she recalls, he would be “shaking me and grabbing my face” while demanding that she repeat such things as “I’m a little whore.” She says that he also told her, “If you ever left me, I’d kill you.””
“Sometimes, he’d tell me to call him Master, and he’d slap me until I did,” Selvaratnam claimed. “He started calling me his ‘brown slave’ and demanding that I repeat that I was ‘his property.’”
“The slaps started after we’d gotten to know each other,” she told the New Yorker. “It was at first as if he were testing me. Then it got stronger and harder. It wasn’t consensual. This wasn’t sexual playacting. This was abusive, demeaning, threatening behavior.”
She further alleges that Schneiderman would “hit me until I agreed” to engage in a threesome with another woman. Something she never did.
“The abuse escalated,” the New Yorker reports. “Schneiderman not only slapped her across the face, often four or five times, back and forth, with his open hand; he also spat at her and choked her.”
“He was cutting off my ability to breathe,” she claims. Things escalated to a point where “we could rarely have sex without him beating me.”
She also says that he drank too much, took sedatives, and often forced her to drink with him. “In the middle of the night, he staggered through the apartment, as if in a trance,” is how the New Yorker describes it. “The next morning, she says, he’d seem fine, but often berated her for not having kept him away from the alcohol.”
Things only worsened after President Trump won the presidency. Selvaratnan says that he had counted on “forging an ambitious partnership with a White House led by Hillary Clinton.” On the night before Trump’s inauguration, Schneiderman was forced to cancel a public appearance. “He told me that he’d been drinking the night before he fell down. He didn’t realize he’d cut himself, and got into bed, and when he woke up he was in a pool of blood,” Selvaratnam says.”
No, nothing to do with his political leanings.
All a coincidence.
It could be anyone from either party.
It just never is.

I don’t believe you understand the concept of “Moral License”. Why do you think it is that all of the Big Names brought down by the “MeTOO” movement (Weinstein, Spacey, a host of others) have all been Loud and Proud leftists who spent years loudly proclaiming how “pro-women” they were?
Political activism on the left is the most convenient and socially acceptable way in current society for hard core sexual abusers to use to cover up their abuse. That is why they gravitate to the left; that is why they are so heavily represented in that class.

I will agree with that, there is enough hypocrisy on both sides: the left are supposed to be the ones who are about gender equality and anti-patriarchy, the right is supposed to be ones with the family or religious values.
When someone from either side is caught with the proverbial pants down (or “wide stance”…) it can be seen as a “win” or a “gotcha”, but in general, its just a sad state of affairs (pun unintended) and a sign of sickening society (although, it truly is nothing new, we just hid it there for so long…)

I agree. Politicians across the spectrum are equally capable of stupid and morally reprehensible behavior. Politicians, who typically have inflated egos and powers of self-justification, are in the public eye and their fall from grace is steeper and deeper when they screw up.
The hunger for power and fame is always a corrupting influence to one degree or another – corruption in the traditional sense or simply in the erosion of moral values. There are so many examples of hypocrisy and bad behavior, and it’s easy to conclude that political success brings out the absolute worst in those attracted to the system.
Obviously, it’s not always this way. There are political figures who have used their power to further the public good. God bless them. But they’re always complicated people. George Washington owned slaves, as did Jefferson. Alexander Hamilton, as much good as he did, was almost dangerously eccentric. But God bless these men for directing their many talents to the improvement of the commonweal.

For example, what Bill Clinton was accused of doing was way more serious than what Bob Packwood was accused of doing. The same liberals who demanded Packwood’s immediate resignation (incidentally allowing him to be replaced by a Democrat governor) rallied behind Clinton. The president of NOW even went so far as to create a “one free group rule” in order to defend his actions.

If we’re using a micrometer to differentiate between Packwood’s alleged sexual abuse of women & a minor vs Bill Clinton’s alleged sexual abuse (and beating) of women (including employees), Clinton also scores with private flights to some pervert’s magic island with child sex.
Bill Clinton pretty much scores as full-spectrum pervert.

Darrin,
“Sexual relations” is defined as what?
Bill says oral in the oval office does not fall under the definition.
In Packwood’s (minor) case the girl was strong and confident enough to get away from him before he got his tongue into her mouth. That was it.
Some (democrats mostly) might agree with the Clinton definition. I don’t know anyone but you that would go along with your definition.

Things change quickly, but as I understand it, the issue is not forced sex, but physical assault during “role-playing.” If there is no injury requiring medical attention, it’s misdemeanor assault with a statute of limitations of 1 year. Even with a conviction, prison time is doubtful, and it would be a state or county lockup, not federal.

We should give Schneiderman the same benefit of the doubt he gives to all the people he has prosecuted: Load up a mountain of charges and all of the evidence, and offer a plea deal for a lesser charge and lighter sentence, by a little and only maybe, if he pleads guilty.
Or take your chances in court where conviction rate is between 60-90%.
No better than the practice of putting people on the rack and waiting to see if they confessed.

Forgive me my naturally suspicious mind but “In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity.” Is an admission that he indulged in Sado Masochistic activities, consensual or otherwise, this implies he either enjoyed giving or receiving, or both, physical and/or mental abuse.
I’m afraid that exposes the man as one who enjoys punishment, and irrespective of one’s personal predisposition to the subject, it says a lot about the mental condition of these people if it’s done a pre determined fashion.
We may all recall the case of Max Mosely, son of the infamous UK fascist Oswald Mosley, who was secretly photographed with prostitutes dressed in N*z* uniforms.
And UK politics is littered with incidents of sexual child abuse and accusations of sexually motivated murder, much of it just for fun, most of course, found to be unfounded.
It is said that anyone promoting themself for political office should never achieve their ambition (paraphrasing).
Does their sexual preference spill over into their working lives? I would suggest it does, Jimmy Savile, the serial child abuser used his position of influence in the pop music world to predate on children, indeed, it seems there was a ring of these people, including Gary Glitter.
In my opinion, these people are unacceptable in positions of authority.

Watch for the next step in the case: the hearing of the motion to dismiss on May 24. The transcript of this will be fascinating.
As you read through what has appeared so far in the way of amicus briefs and the motions to dismiss, you have the impression that plaintiffs are not on this planet. Its perhaps a very odd conclusion. Usually in high profile cases its not at all clear to those outside the law what the case turns on, or whose arguments are strongest.
Here one has the clear impression that the case for dismissal is overwhelming. The bearing of the precedents and facts alleged in support of dismissal is quite obvious, and the force of the logic seems unanswerable. But, not a lawyer, so who knows?
Its going to be very interesting indeed.

Facebook is partnering with a group accused of spreading misinformation about climate science

The problem is ‘skeptics’ provide an easy target by saying far-fetchedly optimistic views on climate change without having a grip over media as alarmists have. It is enough to say we don’t know how dangerous 1 C of warming is, but we already have 0.8C, which does not seem to be very devastating. The observation-based estimates of warming are small enough to completely question the danger an adaptation scenario.
It is difficult to scientificly exclude bad things. and alarmists are very creative in inventing new scenarios with both plausible and pretty implausible catastrophes.
They tell we’re spreding misinformation, but they spread worse when they say the RCP8.5 is business as usual and Greenland will collapse (as Gore did), Yet, they wouldn’t ever call Gore or friends somebody who’s accused of spreading misinformation about climate change (though they did, seriously).

I don’t know how much warmer it was. I’m sure alarmists are working on how to lower the figures as low as possible. Soon we’ll find out (according to The Guardian, when the time comes), that the Eemian peak, last interglacial, was actually colder than the present. That this current peak was even before our intervention warmer than before.
This kind of retrospect rewrite of history (oh no, nobody was seriously worried on a new ice age in the seventies) is always useful for those capable of doing it. DDT was never banned. Shall we talk about how Connelly rewrote English language Wikipedia in order to remove contrarian views?
I’m just wondering why SWJ:s are so well represented among those who write, where practical people appear to do something else? Why newspapers are written by morons for whom differentiation is far too difficult and DHMO is a dangerous chemical? Just asking. Perhaps writing is what they best can.

For this rather innocent Australian it seems that the with a rather large and aggressive Caiman who has expressed his intention to feed on the piranhas of the swamp until they are all gone and cleaned out and who is now resident in the Whitehouse, all those piranhas of the swamp who no longer have a big piranha Godfather in the White house, are turning on their own as their swamp gets murkier and murkier and stinks even more if that is possible, to the point where even the local residents are beginning to hold their noses and avoid the swamp and its resident piranhas where. ever and when ever possible..
Every now and then that big Caiman in the White house flicks his tail and there goes another carefully crafted swamp piranha created structure and another bunch of swamp piranhas begin to fight it out amongst themselves leaving the ever present carrion crows of the swamp media screeching and slobbering on the sidelines and hoping for another round of swamp piranha carrion to come floating their way and soon.

Algore seems kind of ‘stone faced’ in the picture. Seems a little fat too. Everyone else has some form of expression on their face.
Is that a wax figure of gore? Is he dead? Is he dreaming of his next masseuse? I hope he doesn’t think he’s gonna be on Mt Rushmore.

I’d suggest Gore is The Very Picture of sanctimonious smug.
Stomach churning, you just sooooo want to slap it.
Take it that the human animal cannot pass off untruths *and* that girls have a whole different way of looking at things. They have an intuition that is miles ahead of boys.
So why is the one girl in the picture not looking at the camera?
I venture that she ‘knows’ that its all a monumental haox and, with *almost* every fibre of her being, is wishing she were not there.
Is that what Gore is doing. He has practised and practised and practised that bland sanctimonious smug so as to try hide his intuition.
Hence why he won’t take questions usually at speeches etc, the veneer would crack.

No?
As for the expressions…that appears to be the various looks that different individuals adopt in anticipation of their next big heist.
The look of a Scrooge McDuck daydreaming about swimming in a vault killed with money and jewels, or of a mob of bank robbers looking forward to counting and then spending their ill-gotten gains.
Trust me, those sort only look that happy, all of them at the same time, when the subject is a large amount of someone else’s money coming their way.

What a pity Scneiderman was not convicted of civil rights abuses for political prosecutions, but having him out as a perv is sufficient. Oddly, there was a D. Trump tweet in 2012, noting that Spitzer and Weiner were out, and that Schneiderman would be next. What did he know?

What is it with all these lefties? Why can’t they keep it in their pants?
Why do they have to force themselves upon women? Are they so hard-up that the only way they can get laid is to force themselves upon women?
Or do they get a power-rush from engaging in abusive behavior?
Seems to be a problem, particularly with the political left. Maybe it’s the lack of a moral center.
Read below about “Slick Willie” Clinton and Jack “Mehoff” Layton:

“MILLWEE: He [Bill Clinton] came in [to the editing room] behind me, started hunching me to the point that he had an orgasm. He’s touching, trying to touch my breasts and I’m just sitting there very stiffly, just waiting for him to leave me alone. And I’m asking him the whole time, ‘Please do not do this. Do not touch me. Do not hunch me. I do not want this.’ And he finished doing what he was doing and walked out.”

Bill reminds me of my friend’s dachshund. When I was a kid I used to visit my genius friend Peter, and he would always admonish me to put my shoes in the closet and close the door. Seems his dog had a shoe fetish, and would make wild passionate love to your footwear if you left them in sight. Gives whole new meaning to the term “wiener dog”. If I ever encounter a dog like this again. I’m going to call him “Clinton”. 🙂
Even notice how the press gives lefties a free pass when they (all too frequently) reveal themselves as sexual predators? Canadian NDP leader Jack Mehoff Layton was caught by the Toronto police in a raid of notorious massage parlour, famous for their “happy endings”, and was given a free pass by the police AND the press.

Like the engineer, hoist (blown up) with his own petard (bomb)… – Hamlet.
There’s a massive inflation of the ego going on in this, which involves the attempts to blackmail Exxon through the courts. It has never, ever been about anything except cash. If you think it was anything else, you weren’t paying attention. Whether or not these women were smacked around by him, he has a rather aggressive personality that is something he’s tripping over. In that James Woods ‘tweets’, he’s also being investigated for bank fraud. So he resigns from it all in the blink of an eye – covering his tracks, perhaps.
It’s not that I care what happens to this individual – I don’t – but he was scrambling his way right up to the top with no thought for the consequences of what he may/may not have done prior to his scramble. Bank fraud, physical abuse of women (only 4 so far) – what else is simmering around under the surface with this guy?
This is like looking at a wound that has festering for a while and wondering just how long it will be before it explodes – which is going on now. The whole climate shebang is just a small part of it.

When these things happen, Leftists love to say “All powerful men do it!” because it’s a way for them to pull their political enemies in on the blame that they have earned for themselves.
In point of fact, in this day and time, it is primarily leftists who keep getting found out doing these things. I would argue it that it’s because Leftism as a philosophy give them the ideal way to hide what they’re doing. In this Schneidermann story, there is an account from one of the women who said she went to her friends and told them what had happened, asked them their advice, and they told her “Oh don’t go to the police, or to the paper, we (meaning their political side) need him too much!!!”
Leftists are always willing to cover up individual suffering and abuse as long as they think it is good for “the cause”.

Bob Hoye
May 8, 2018 6:47 am

The Left has some sort of a sickness.
Individuals are anxious about something, which may be taught or natural.
The next step is that they believe it can be relieved by forcing someone else to something they would not have done otherwise,
Case in point is anxiety about climate, which has been taught. And you must endure greater taxation and regulations.
The sad thing is that it never works. But fortunately, they seem to have only one anxiety at a time.
Forty years ago it was “acid rain”. Then, horror of horrors, it was Alar on apples.
In order to get off climate-altering as a means of relieving Leftist anxiety, another one will have to be found. Hopefully less harmful to real science and the wallet.
Any ideas?

From the article: “WUWT readers may recall he’s the bozo (along with Bill McKibben and Al Gore) that dreamt up the “Exxon Knew” libel outfit, and got a bunch of other Attorney Generals to sign on to the scam.”
It has also been reported that Schneiderman was involved in meetings in Washington DC with disgraced FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, two of the principle FBI agents involved in both the Hillary Clinton email investigation and the investigation into President Trump.
The report I heard implied that this meeting involved colluding on some level to resist President Trump.
Schneiderman looks vulnerable legally on several fronts.
Perhaps Congress or the Special Cousel will look into Schneiderman’s collusion with rogue FBI agents. He is not only abusing women, he is abusing the power of his office and the U.S. Constitution. And btw, there are psychopaths like Schneiderman in all walks of life and all political parties. They claim that about 10 percent of any group of people you see are psychopaths to one degree or another. And they hide it so well. Unfortunately.
Got to love those U.S. Federal Judges sometimes, like the one who has called into question the Special Counsel’s mandate, Judge Bliss! The right judge can be very valuable in defending our Constitutional rights (just as the wrong judge can take our freedoms away: A judge that can’t read the U.S. Constitution). Trump is appointing conservative federal judges in large numbers.
The leader of the U.S. Senate, Mitch McConnell, should make the Senate stay in session 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until all of President Trump’s nominees have been given a vote in the Senate.
The U.S. Senate is where the logjam is located. The Republcian Senate leadership has the ability to remove these logjams. They should do so in order to allow President Trump’s government to get in place and if they do not do this, then conservatives should work to oust every one of these useless Republicans and replace them with Trump supporters.
It is estimated that at the current pace in the U.S. Senate, it will take nine Years for the Senate to vote on all of Trump’s nominees. This is Sedition! The Democrats are underming the governing of this country. The Republcian Senate leadership has in its power the abilty to stop this slow-motion coup, and they better do so.
And where does the DOJ and the FBI get off refusing unredacted documents to Congress? Can’t they read the U.S. Constitution? It says Congress has oversight over the DOJ and the FBI and the entire Executive Branch and part of that oversight is having ALL the information those agencies have available. Security clearances are not an issue as those members of Congress involved have just as high a security clearance and those refusing to supply the documents.
Attorney General Sessions and his deputy better start turning over the unredacted documents to the American people, and if he doesn’t, then he and anyone else who is standing in the way of tranparency should be removed from office and replaced with someone who will follow the law and the U.S Constitution. The DOJ and the FBI are not just keeping these documents from Congress, they are keeping them from the people of the United States. We aren’t going to let them do that.
Demanding the documents is not extortion as the Deputy Attorney General claims, it’s the job of Congress to see the documents, and it is the duty of the Deputy Attorney General to turn them over to Congress, whether you like it or not.
Think Mitch McConnell. Ask what Mitch McConnell is doing to fix this stonewalling situation. Where’s Mitch McConnell?

The rule of thumb in journalism is that not very many people read past the headline, and those that do, not manly of those read past the lead.
Theoretically, that’s supposed to prompt reporters to put the ‘who, where, what, why, and how’, all in the first paragraph.
If, on the other hand, this is used in modern propaganda messaging, it means ‘if you wanna bury something, but still have plausible deniability, put it in the eight paragraph.”
Then you can say, ‘see, I reported it… in a place where statistically very few people will see it.”
Tricks of the trade. These sort of shell games are all over.

It definitely is a ‘moral license’ aka entitlement issue. I commented on this during the short heyday the Me too# had until it turned out it was largely the left that had been enjoying this license. This is similar to abuse that tends to occur in women’s prisons and other disenfranchized situations (underlings without power).
The withdrawal of a large segment of society from religious observances, most notably the left, without replacing the institutionalized ‘discipline’ with a strong self discipline could be the crux. Disclaimer: I’m not a church goer but self discipline, old fashioned honesty and moral character seems to be built into me.
Being good these has become an accounting exercise where abuses can be squared with the conscience by virtue signaling, supporting global warming or social justice or … helping some group in Africa that 60 yrs of help hasn’t helped. Africa is the virtue signalling gold standard for such types. Building a water treatment facility for a poor American community, or enhancing literacy and good health among inner city disadvantaged groups just doesn’t have the sexy pizzang that a perennially worthless project of the kind that seem designed to fail in Africa possesses. I guess without your Bible you can’t know that charity begins at home. There is a certain- what’s in it for me aspect, too.
I’ve also mentioned that corrupted sociologists and social psychologists don’t have a clue they are in the richest environment for real research in their fields and this is why an old mining engineer has to record a few notes on the phenomenon.

The very restrained young attorney with Thomas More Law Center who was interviewed in that clip is Mr. Tyler Brooks, who just won a Republican Primary Election in my NC House District, expecting to challenge the Democrat who currently represents me in the NC House… and that Democrat, strangely enough, has a lot in common with Schneiderman:
