The propagandists are hard at work trying to make Houston, Texas, ground zero in the cause of climate alarmism and a carbon tax. The Houston Chronicle, New York-influenced with its ideology, incessantly ran stories of Hurricane Harvey being a man-made anomaly (see my Houston Chronicle: Preaching Climate Alarmism Post Harvey and Charles Battig’s Politicizing Harvey in the Houston Chronicle.)
And in recent weeks, the climate activists, warring against fossil fuels in general, and seeking a carbon tax in particular, are erecting inflammatory billboards in Houston in the wake of Harvey. Reported the Houston Chronicle (October 13) in “Billboard Effort Ask ‘Climate Polluters’ to Help Pay for Harvey;”
Houston billboards, part of a media campaign, are asking energy companies, whose fossil fuel products are blamed for accelerating climate change, to pay their “fair share” for the massive Hurricane Harvey recovery process.
The Center for Climate Integrity and Public Citizen say that man-made climate change is warming ocean waters and strengthening storms like Harvey, helping them to unleash much more rainfall and flooding on communities.
The overwhelming consensus among scientists is that burning coal, petroleum products and natural gas is quickening the pace of global warming by emitting carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the atmosphere.
This is just the beginning of a larger national campaign that’s starting in Houston and includes a website, whopaysforharvey.com, said Adrian Shelley, Texas director for Public Citizen.

The next phase of the Houston climate assault will occur next week at Rice University with Al Gore himself. (The university’s announcement is reproduced at the end of this post.)

Geostorm, as I understand it, is about governments weaponizing the weather after learning to control it. My hope is that this will make people everywhere leary of allowing any government the ability to tinker with the weather or climate.
The problem with Geostorm is that it validates the very idea that weather/climate IS in fact controllable. If it is controllable, then there is a control knob of sorts.

We think it is just a coincidence and a joke, but I say just possibly Mother Gaia has some kind of subconscious mind and is screaming. The real problem is agricultural pollution (my degrees are in Ag), and Climate Optimum means a warm period. The greatest abundance and variety of Life is with global average temperatures about 5 to 12 degrees Celcius warmer than now.

The connection with hurricanes is speculative. Photosynthesis and the key role of CO2 is an irrefutable law.
280 parts per million of CO2 in the atmosphere was dangerously low. If we went back to that level, there would be widespread world food shortages and prices at record highs-not affordable for much of the worlds poor. One can guess that at least hundreds of millions would starve and over a billion go hungrier.
Growing corn to make fuel, one of the dumbest ideas in history would never have been possible.
At 405 ppm, we are still low on atmospheric CO2, even though world crop production is setting records……and cereal stocks……wheat, corn and barley are the highest in history, meaning that production is even out gaining record demand/use. However, no matter how high CO2 and crop production gets, growing corn(the crop that pollutes the most and uses billions of gallons of water) for fuel will always be a dumb idea.
Maddening. And I’m not talking ‘BRET FAVRE’.

The “energy companies”, whose refineries were also flooded during Hurricane Harvey, are probably spending millions rebuilding whatever was damaged during the storm and flooding, trying to get the refineries up and running to make up the shortfall in supplies of gasoline, Diesel fuel, and heating oil caused by Hurricane Harvey. Those costs are their “fair share” of the recovery costs from Hurricane Harvey. The “energy companies” are not to blame for Hurricane Harvey, any more than they can take credit for the 11-year lull in hurricanes between 2006 and 2016.
Houston is not a good place for Gore to be demonizing the fossil fuel industry, which provides the “bread and butter” for the city of Houston. It’s the equivalent of Hillary Clinton telling West Virginians she wants to put the coal miners out of business–how did that work out for her?

My understanding is that the oil industry was in Houston from the early 1900’s, as they could not tolerate New Orleans or Louisiana political corruption, and had the choice of moving out rather than paying up.
The Texas oilfields developed before Louisiana’s did, starting with Spindletop in 1901. Spindletop launched the 20th century oil industry.

I knew a lot of folks from Houston who lived through the oil price collapse in the 1980s. They lost everything. None were directly in the business. The New Moon occurs on Thursday, October 19th, 2017, at 3:13 PM EDT. Yes indeed, there was just a partial solar eclipse but it is now over. I should have taken some screen shots of the side bar pic of the sun spotless with a good sized bite out of it as it progressed over the last few hours. I didn’t realize that this pic was updated real time as I just watched this partial eclipse every time I refreshed the WUWT page. Interesting..I am surprised no one else noticed this and can’t find any reference to it with a simple google search.

I support this. If the contribution can be quantified, then it is only fair for each contributor to cough up. Once the carbon sources are quantified, in order to keep it fair, China and others like Poland and Russia will find their governments having to pay as they used to own almost everything.
I doubt there will be anything to worry about. CO2 doesn’t hang around loading ports so they can’t blame individual companies for local damage. It is not like a chemical spill. I wonder if they are as unaware of this as they are unaware of how the climate works.
Has anyone noticed, there seems to be a new alarmism creeping up on us in on the MSM. I wonder whether it has anything to do with the fact that eventually the data is going to put an end to global warming/climate change crisis and the deep state realises this… the new demon is air quality.

Polar Bears are on the increase and Gore refuses to answer difficult questions to the lies he broadcasts to the nation, etc etc.
