Tone deaf “Wrong Door” anti-fracking activist group East Boulder County United (EBCU) teamed up with the Boulder County Protectors (BCP) for a staged “Die-in” at the Boulder County Commissioners (BCC) meeting earlier this week. If you haven’t heard of a “Die-in” before, as strange is it seems – this is actually a common protest tactic used by “Keep It in the Ground”groups.

Many of the protesters donned their “anti-fracking” hazmat suits, a wardrobe repeat from the infamous “Wrong Door” protest, while others held grave markers while sprawled out all across the floor of the BCC hearing room. The “faux Elise Jones” who made her debut at the “Wrong Door” protest in September, made an encore appearance as the opening act before the anti-fracking activists put on their “Die-in” performance inside of the BCC hearing space.

Following the “Die-in” protest, the anti-fracking groups highlighted some of the more grotesque details of their Tuesday night theatrics in a press release:
“In order to visually illustrate the lethal nature of fracking and to emphasize the critical nature of the immediate fracking crisis, community members staged a ‘die-in’ form of protest. People simulated the deaths caused by fracking pollution and oil/gas explosions by lying on the hearing room floor with cardboard tombstones. The tombstones were painted with anti-fracking messages including: R.I.P. Open Space, Fracking Killed Me, Died so Oil + Gas Execs Could Get Rich, R.I.P. Clean Air, COGCC Killed Me, R.I.P. Clean Water, Here Lies Polluted Open Space, Fracking Kills, Greedy Frackers Killed Me, etc.”

Halloween is early.
Sorry, these demos are a far cry from Halloween in Boulder. You haven’t see wacky until you have been on the Pearl St Mall for Halloween night. I guess one of the funniest (maybe scariest for some) was one Halloween night standing at the bar at Potter’s when I turned around and almost ran into a very good looking pregnant high school cheerleader. Didn’t take long to see why that section of the bar was almost empty…
I’ve seen pregnant nuns there also. At least these revelers have a sense of humor, whereas the protesters have no sense.
One way for sure to stop them would be to immediately approve whatever the meeting was discussing that they were protesting against.

Or maybe deaths caused by environmentalists. You know, froze to death due to lack of heat, died because electric ambulance wasn’t recharged, died of heat stroke because A/C went out, got cancer even though we left the fossil fuels in the ground, couldn’t be treated for cancer because hospital closed due to lack of funds to pay for very expensive wind and solar that didn’t work anyway. These would need to be shortened, of course, for the signs.

The hydrocarbons and the salt water in the formations is massively more toxic than the fracking fluid. People have been known to drink fracking fluids with little bodily harm.
Let either the huydrocarbons or the saltwater enter the drinking water and you have serious environmental problems.
The risk/probability of hydrocarbons and/or saltwater entering the groundwater is massively higher than the risk of fracking fluid entering the groundwater.
Yet the anti-fracking nuts attack the fracking fluids as a problem
There is some frack fluid you could drink, and some which would kill you. Fortunately, Colorado has s governor who knows the difference.

Doug – the point is that the fracking fluid is significantly less toxic that either the hydrocarbons or the saltwater.
FWIW – most of the anti fracking nuts have no idea that the saltwater is dominant liquid in many formations. Many of the antifracking nuts have no idea that saltwater even exists underground, as if they skipped all their science classes from 1st grade to HS graduation.
I have had a few try to expain that saltwater is in the ocean, not on land
All the waters of the world carry trace amounts of mineral salts. Seawater just has them in high enough concentrations to render it unpotable.
To put it into better perspective; a woman who puts makeup on just one time will have exposed herself to more carcinogens then she will receive in a lifetime of exposure to fracing fluids.
Many of these people had hoped for careers in Theater or Film, but they lacked the talent, disposition, or imagination. They also lack the self awareness to realize that they just look and act like … (your pejorative noun goes here)…

The activists just recycle themes from earlier protests, which in this case look like anti-nuclear power or weapons (which they conflate). Depicting old, poor people freezing in the dark does not give a good visual impression, although that is what their cause would lead to.

I’m afraid I made an unthinking leftist friend of mine mad when we drove by a silica sand plant and I explained that they were spending a lot of effort and money on controlling the sand dust to keep it below levels you normally get at the beach.

It would be interesting to see the lifestyle profile for each of these people. Do they practice what they preach (living off the grid, peddling a bicycle to the protest Du-jour), or do they have a house full of energy sucking electronic equipment and a boat on the lake? Also, I see that one of the yellow clad ‘attendees’ has a full face mask on. No way! Not at a government/political meeting. With all of the ‘angry protesters’ today, I would not stand for someone showing up with their face covered.
As for the dead on the floor, arrest them in place if they don’t want to get up off the floor. Cuff them all and move the meeting to another location. If they won’t walk out voluntarily, set a police office in there and let them wait. They’ll get up for the bathroom eventually. If they soil themselves, it was their choice. I’ll bet they can’t go several hours with mommy making them a ‘sam-ich’..

Let me see if I have it right. These whackos believe in CAGW and want us to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Converting coal fired plants to natural gas has allowed the USA to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions more than any other country. The natural gas boom is because of “new” advanced fracking methods, all proven to be environmentally sound. But these whackos are opposed to fracking. Could it be, as I have maintained for years, that none of this has anything to do with CAGW or the evils of fracking but just a hatred for capitalism and the USA as its primary representative?
These folks are naive enough to believe that cheap, totally clean energy is just around the corner, and all that they need do is demand it dramatically enough for it to become reality. They just live in a media and academia-induced alternate reality.

We Wyomingites refer to anyone south of the common border as “Greenies”. Initially it was because the license plates were green, that transformed in to tree hugger greenies, and now refers to the brain dying, pot smokers. Regardless of the actual definition, the common thread was arrogant snobbery. Boulder has a special breed of greenie. Boulder is the Berkeley of the west, non thinking, intolerant, tree hugging, frog licking, pot smokin, man bun wearing, Bernie voters who are “smarter and better” than the rest of us. I mean, really, just ask them, and if they deem you worthy of an answer you’ll hear all about it. As a rule, we ignore them.
Wyoming is big on energy, with the Powder River coal basins, oil and natural gas fields, uranium and sadly the “Cuisinarts of the sky” dotting the landscape because the wind always seems to be blowing. Maybe someday, all the subsidies will cease, and those bird chopping monuments to foolishness with red beacons from hell that flash at night and despoil the skyline will cease to spin, and be torn down.

I lost all respect for Wyoming when it became apparent that the only thing Wyoming wants is to be as stupid and “green” as Colorado and California and will do anything to get there, including covering the state with turbines. There is no concern for hunting, open spaces, conservation, nothing. Just let’s all be California’s wind plant and Colorado’s annex. Sorry, but I am really not at all proud of my state. Their government is actively trying to destroy what people find most appealing about the state.

There are frightening parallels between the violent or passionate demonstrations of today and those of Germany in the 1920s and 1930s and of the anarchists in the early 1900s. There is too much hate and anger in the world. I pray we do not need another world war to dampen emotions.
Many of the demonstrating groups have good intentions. It is past time for the schools and Universities to teach the students to argue their cases with logic and to pursue their objectives through the democratic process.
I watched the film clips of recent protest encounters and all I could hear is repetition of slogans.
It is all emotion and no logic. How can we turn that around?
They couldn’t logically support their positions, so they dismissed logic as oppressive and patriarchal. In the same vein, democracy is working when their platform is being pushed and failing when saner people have the temerity to not vote for it.

What they don’t tell you is that 1/2 of those 33,000 firearms deaths are suicides. Does a motor vehicle cause the operator to kill someone? Does any weapon or machine that can kill cause the operator to use it for that purpose? Of course not.
To be pedantic, two thirds are suicides, and about 10% or the remainder are justifiable homicides.

Oh how people forget. Mortal man doomed to die, with a maximum span of 120 years. Trauma has always been a major cause of death. As a I recall it from a paper that I presented as a personal communication at a grand rounds about 35 years ago, traumatic deaths have been 100,000 or more per year in the USA since the turn of the century. The turn of the 19th to 20th century. Now think of the population increase since 1900/1901. Remember that the USA didn’t get to 200,000,000 people until around the 1980 census and 300,000,000 around the 2000 census.

Not whining, just asking. My electric bill is considerably lower this month than last month. Some of the electricity is generated by a company that uses natural gas as a fuel.
I’m a happy camper. and I still don’t have any idea what those nutballs are going on about. But a good idea might be to shut off their electricity and heat/cooking gas (if they use that) for the winter just to see how long they last without it.
On the other hand, sending them to another planet sounds nice.

We’ve been fracing and acidizing wells in Boulder Co Colorado for about 50+ years, no problems. The industry has, however, done an outstanding job of capturing stray hydrocarbon gases from their wells and facilities which has significantly cleaned up the air in the Boulder area. Boulder is in what geologists call the Denver-Julesburg Basin-just about the largest and cleanest gas/oil producing area in Colorado!
The problem with these ‘die ins’ is that after a while they all get up and go pack to their parents house. They never carry out there convictions.
It would be more interesting if the girls didn’t wear anything made using evil petroleum products

It’s a bit worrying that these protest groups are increasing so fast. The one thing they have in common is that they are protesting a non existent fantasy. In the old days we used to protest real injustice, but now they protest things that don’t exist except in their addled minds. Are they in fact the same individuals who turn up at every protest, no what it is, and are they in fact paid by George Soros as is rumoured?
This is just a visible first step towards complete anarchy and armed insurrection.
The worst part is that this thing is happening in many places in the same time frame.
It will continue with increased violence and eventually more than a few deaths.
Ultimately martial law will be declared first in the major cities and then in the surrounding areas.
The reasons behind all this are beyond my pay grade, but I do know evil when I see it.

Perhaps it is time that at these protest they were issued a notice saying that either they leave or they will be compulsorily fitted with smart meters and when wind energy failed to deliver its theoretical quota of energy they will be switched off. Also any energy company will have the right to refuse to supply them or any company they work for.
