Al Gore says Brexit was caused by… climate change

There are plenty of theories about what led to the Brexit vote. Now, Al Gore, has a new one to add to the pile. The former vice president – who has been busy promoting his new film by labelling those who question him ’deniers’ – says the EU referendum result was brought about because of… climate change.

Gore suggested that the war in Syria was caused by ‘climate refugees’ flooding into the cities. This, in turn, by Gore’s version of events at least, kickstarted the wider refugee crisis – eventually leading Brits to vote out last June. Here’s what Gore told the New European:

‘Long before the civil war in Syria began from 2006 to 2010 80% of livestock were killed by the drought, 60% of farms were destroyed, 1.5 million climate refugees were driven into their cities where they collided with another 1.5 million from the Iraq War… And soon thereafter the civil war – which had other causes as well – erupted and opened the gates of hell, and the refugee crisis, which also had other causes, began to shake the foundations of the European experiment.

Of course there were many causes of Brexit, but one of them was this, and the most powerful ad in the campaign was that billboard showing the endless lines of refugees at the borders of Europe with the implicit message ‘do you want them coming here?’

All of the surveys done since the Brexit Referendum have shown that the key reason for the public voting to leave the EU was to restore sovereignty to the UK.
We have had enough of our laws made elsewhere. We have had enough of electing politicians who are then unable to make the 70% of our laws and policies dictated to us by the unelected and unaccountable in Brussels.
I have long believed that the EU is the ‘dry run’ for creating the unelected and unaccountable World Government that the UN and the Liberal Elite crave and are trying to create off the back of the climate change scare. The EU has rehearsed the mechanisms for removing true decision making from the nation state whilst leaving the appearance of democracy as a sop to the disenfranchised voter.
Returning to Al Gore it reminds me of the old joke about how do you know someone is lying and the answer to which is ‘their lips are moving’.

It was about sovereignty to most people , We have had enough of our laws made elsewhere. We have had enough of electing politicians who are then unable to make the 70% of our laws and policies dictated to us by the unelected and unaccountable in Brussels.

And having Islamic Terrorist getting control of the waterways just added to the turmoil. Not Climate Change, which is generally equated to ‘Average of 30 years of Weather”. Algor needs another 20 years before claiming this.
The Islamic State’s quest for hydrological control began in northern Syria, where in early 2013, it captured the old Russian-built Tabqa Dam, which barricades the Euphrates as it flows out of Turkey. The dam, which is the world’s largest earthen dam, is a major source of water and electricity for five million people, including Syria’s largest city Aleppo. It also irrigates a thousand square kilometers of farmland.
The Islamic State’s control of the Tabqa Dam has been haphazard, to say the least. In May, the reservoir behind it, Lake Assad, dramatically emptied. Many blamed Turkey for holding Euphrates water back behind its own dams upstream. But the Arab news service Al Jazeera quoted engineers at the dam as saying that their new masters had ordered them to maximize the supply of electricity. That required emptying the reservoir’s water through the dam’s hydroelectric turbines.

When does Gore take delivery of the clown costume?
Oh and talking of fruitcakes, the latest stupidity here in the U.K. announced on the BBC news just now is that Admiral Nelson’s statue should be removed from Trafalger Square on the grounds he was a pro-slavery white man (even though I think I’m correct in saying he never owned any slaves).
Mind you I’ve always blamed the ancient Greeks and Romans for all this aggressive imperialism lark (especially Alexander the Great trashing the much more civilized Persian world); instead of returning the Elgin marbles to Greece the British Museum should take them out into the courtyard and invite visitors to take hammers and destroy them. Along with every other Greek and Roman statue. Oh and then the Egyptian things too, they were imperialists too.
Who needs any knowledge of history anyway when we have the true belief of anything before yesterday is monochromatically evil and coated in CO2.

It almost seems that the inevitable end of this stream of thought will be a desire to erase all vestiges of history since slavery or coercive labour practices were rather common and widespread practices among most postindustrial cultures that were in conflict with neighboring cultures and in competition for the same resources. This includes many indigenous cultures in the west and elsewhere. Trying to judge the past by present standards is a fool’s errand. We should just be grateful that we live in a world where most of us can live a very comfortable life while supporting a high level of human rights and protections for all. Our efforts are better directed toward providing the same in areas where people are not so fortunate.

Reply to  John MacDonald

I think not. Press gangs were a perfectly normal feature of life in and around ports during that time. If you wanted to avoid being press-ganged – avoid ports. He didn’t actually press gang anybody personally though he may well have had press-ganged crew onboard, but he can’t be blamed for that. Moreover, he made a point of looking after his crews, insisting after one battle that a lower deck sailor be treated before him because the sailor’s injuries were worse – an act unheard of in those days. Moreover Nelson introduced the “Divisional System” into the Royal Navy to ensure that his men were looked after and that they had redress. It is STILL in use to this day. All crew were paid (so not slaves), were free to leave when hostilities were finished (unlike slaves) and were in receipt of prize money – and after Trafalgar that was quite a considerable amount (slaves are unpaid)
If anything, Nelson was loved by his crew’s because he recognised their worth, he looked after them, went to great pains to ensure they were well fed (over 5,000 calories per day per man). Unlike many captains he would talk to his men personally and visit them in the lower decks, and as mentioned earlier, receive treatment after them. In the 18th/19th century this was revolutionary stuff, but this combined with his leadership, tactical brilliance and personal bravery ensured that his men would follow him into hell if need be – and they did.
You simply cannot judge someone who lived in those times by the standards of this age.

ModCross – “Oh and then the Egyptian things too”
Definitely had a hand in the start of the Black Slave Trade.
While there had been slaves in Egypt since the beginning of its history, their numbers greatly increased during the New Kingdom, when the pharaohs were committed to a policy of foreign involvement and conquests in Nubia, Canaan and Syria brought in many prisoners of war, seqer-ankh, who were enslaved, at times branded with the sign ki

I guess that is kind of a prediction. The end of the age of deficit spending.
The Western Countries are still borrowing money based on GDP growth of 3 to 5 percent. Unfortunately, due to shipping millions and millions of jobs to Asia, the Western Countries GDP growth, is around 1 to 2 percent.

When the Money Runs Out: The End of Western Affluence

… economist Stephen D. King warns, and the current stagnation of Western economies threatens to reach crisis proportions in the not-so-distant future. Praised for the “dose of realism” he provided in his book Losing Control, King follows up in this volume with a plain-spoken assessment of where the West stands today. It’s not just the end of an age of affluence, he shows. We have made promises to ourselves that are only achievable through ongoing economic expansion. The future benefits we expect – pensions, healthcare and social security, for example – may be larger than tomorrow’s resources. And if we reach that point, which promises will be broken and who will lose out? The lessons of history offer compelling evidence that political and social upheaval are often born of economic stagnation.

The so-called “climate change refugees” were in fact opportunists who wanted to leave their poverty and war stricken countries to settle in Europe. We saw 1000’s of people trying and succeeding to get into Europe, usually fighting age males. They have no intention of assimilating into our culture, in fact they want us to assimilate into theirs. This was ONE of the reasons I wanted to leave; the high-handed, corrupt (the EU auditors have refused to sign off the EU accounts for twenty consecutive years), unelected Brussels elite who tell us how much renewable energy we must produce, the maximum power of irons and vacuum cleaners we are permitted to have, lavatories that don’t flush and light bulbs that don’t light.

The subsequent migration of refugees from the Mediterranean to northern Europe was a gravitational wake effect when Gore left the Pope to go chat with Queen Elizabeth. His sense of self importance has caused his ego to form a small black hole with it’s own dark irresistible center. So when calculating his cost impact keep those factors in mind.

Tens of thousands of refugees fleeing Libya and dying while trying to cross the Mediterranean are also caused by AGW. It has nothing to do with our overthrow of the Libyan government.
Many of these stories (like Al Gore’s lies) skirt around much bigger topics, like, the U.S. gov., in bed with the media and lying to us about all of the important issues. The vast majority of our mainstream media (tv, newspapers, magazines, radio, etc.) is owned and controlled by 6 corporations. This, of course, means that unless you’re already consciously avoiding these mainline media sources, then most of the news and entertainment that makes it onto your screen and into your mind comes from a small pool of corporate sources, all of which play important roles in delivering propaganda, social programming and perpetual crisis narratives to the public.

Well he is right that it was the refugee crisis that tipped the balance – before it, David Cameron could reasonably expect that the referendum would go as he intended and the UK would stay in the UK. I wonder why, does Gore ever hear a detached and reasoned explanation of the uncertainties, specifically AGW’s magnitude, surrounding this issue?
Sure, we are adding (via fossil fuel combustion) CO2 to the atmosphere, no question. How does that change the climate?
Yes, CO2 is a radiative molecule that absorbs and disperses energy in the far infrared around an amplitude of 15 microns for which the corresponding temperature is cold, really cold, over 50 degrees C below zero.
To what extent this property increases surface temperatures so as to change the climate is not determined. The evidence is lacking, there is no test and no accepted method of calibration.
There is evidence of warming, however that is consistent with the recovery from the last neo-glacial (The Little Ice Age). The numerical models suffer from mathematical imagination and the proxy reconstructions lack the decadal resolution for a valid comparison with the instrumental record.
Good grief this is madness, will it ever end?

I need some money for a new theory of mine. A 1.2 million dollar grant will suffice. My theory is that FDR decided to round up and put in camps Japanese-Americans because of … climate change. The Dust Bowl forced families to uproot and head west in the 1930’s. Most of these migrants/refugees were white (and since they were not elite coastal whites they were all racist), so with this influx of racist whites from the plain states mixed with a War forced FDR to round up Japanese-Americans and stick them in camps. I really need a 1.2 million dollar grant to study how climate change caused this travesty.

Actually it is the other way around, Brexit caused global warming acting retrospectively. In few decades as the Brexit drills its way back into the past, we may find out that Brexitiers caused the American Civil War, and further along on the climate front, the Brexit was direct cause of the Little Ice Age.
I know this because I’m Remainer.

Why is this surprising?
Gore blames ‘climate change’ for everything that’s not aligned with his political bias. It’s his go-to justification for any position he holds that can’t otherwise be supported with logic and reason.

David Cage

He is right it was caused by climate change. There was a change in the political climate where the British people realised we could no longer absorb yet more into this tiny overcrowded island just because Merkel thought it a good idea to invite a million refugees of whom one in a thousand would be a terrorist. More if you find the idea of a young male brought up to believe women are for their entertainment to use as they see fit if the women is not a Muslim to be terrifying.

I have been to Syria three times. It has several very large ancient cities. The rest is farmland and a lot of deserts or mountains so the amount of cultivable land is not that high.
There have been severe droughts throughout its history. Adjacent Jordan had a well travelled trade route through it, which in Roman times was controlled by them and a variety of others and there was endless warfare over water scarcity as the climate fluctuated.
In 1960 the population of Syria was 4 million. The rural population are quite poor and the govt not inclined to spend their limited finances (they are not an oil power) in improving the infrastructure.
Consequently when the population grew rapidly this caused severe rural problems and many people moved to the cities to look for work.
Add in two dictators-I met Assad’s father in the 1970’s -with the son increasingly ruthless and you have a combination of drought, rural poor seeking jobs, the govt unwilling to create new jobs and when the population reached over 22 million around 2010 you only need a very moderate downturn in climate for there to be a severe drought, no food and a further movement to the cities.
So in this case blame Malthus. The population was far too high to be supported by a variable climate. Syria would need the finest climate ever in its history and a far more sympathetic ruler willing to spend money to have avoided catastrophe.
Several decades ago Al gore wrote a fine book on the climate in the area and around the world called ‘earth in the balance.’ He has obviously forgotten it.

“Add in two dictators”
Yes, any article that doesn’t mention this can be safely binned very quickly.
Assad, his family, and his cronies have total control over water-intensive (and highly profitable) crops like cotton.
You don’t need to know much about dictators, especially those from the Middle East, to understand where the water that could be used to grow food is actually going.
Doesn’t everyone know this?

We should, out of 27 or so nations I think the only democratically led country in the area is Israel, the leadership of the rest?…an embarrassing collection of thugs, oligarchs, monarchies and theocracies…such is the cradle of civilization.
Of course, the Sykes-Picot boundary decisions along with the exclusion of the Arab nations involvement in the process didn’t help, so the West must share some of the blame in this fiasco.

Agreed. I’m nowhere near the left politically, but even conservatives have to admit that the mistakes made by Britain and France in this neck of the woods particularly are pretty significant. Iraq (Kurds, Sunni, Shia) makes sense in a “divide and conqueror” sort of way, but its NOT a true nation.

Depending on your perspective, and investments, it was catastrophic anthropogenic climate change.
The climate changed to favor science over prophecy, but even that’s not quite true. Brexit rejected the concept of clean wars that force catastrophic anthropogenic immigration reform. Specifically, Brexit opposed the progress of a global anti-native momentum.

Despite his 12 reasons, he manages to avoid the fact that without Nigel Farage and UKIP there wouldn’t have been a referendum in the first place. UKIP winning the 2014 EU elections and their growing support (4 million votes in 2015) ensured that Cameron had next to sod all wiggle room.

In a way, he’s right – because Climate Change regulation is one of the primary reasons the population is finally beginning to see through the constant, destructive propaganda of the Progressives.
Climate Change contributed to the election of Trump, too. Particularly when endorsed by an exploitive, pompous ass like Gore.

I voted for Brexit.
We got the Brexit referendum because Prime Minister David Cameron had just won a general election and a Scottish independence referendum using his Project Fear tactic. He thought he had a winning formula and could put the thorny EU question to rest for at least another 20 years.
We were promised everything that could go wrong would go wrong if we voted to leave, in fact the EU was the only thing holding Europe together and Brexit would probably trigger WW3.
Brexit campaigner Boris Johnson was actually pro-Europe but he wanted clear water between himself and Cameron just in case there was a leadership contest. Everyone knew they could not possibly win.
What Cameron forgot was that politicians of all parties had been promising referendums on Europe whenever they knew they were going to lose. It was always a vote winner. Often promised but never delivered.
Nearly half a century ago I voted to stay in to the Common Market. I then watched as it morphed in to a European super state. They never asked us if this was what we wanted, they just told us how lucky we were to live in a multicultural society.
I knew I would not live long enough to get another chance, so I voted Leave. No regrets.

“Al Gore says Brexit was caused by… climate change” — Al Gore.
Absolutely correct. Day in day out, every hour on the hour Britain heard how the EU was going limit their lives with this or that and all because of climate change.
The British got pig-sick of it! And at the next opportunity voted YES to BREXIT and away from the EUs dumb Climate Change excuse for putting the shackles on its citizens.

Sinclair Lewis had Al (Elmer Gantry) Gore pegged over ninety years ago.
Elmer Gantry is a satirical novel written by Sinclair Lewis in 1926 that presents aspects of the religious activity of America in fundamentalist and evangelistic circles and the attitudes of the 1920s public toward it. The novel’s protagonist, (the Reverend Dr. Elmer Gantry), is initially attracted by booze and easy money (though he eventually renounces tobacco and alcohol) and chasing women. After various forays into evangelism, he becomes a successful Methodist minister despite his hypocrisy and serial …

Albert Gore hasn’t been the same since the details of the Clinton scandal came to light. Albert always thought of himself as one of the good guys; always trying to do the right thing (as much as circumstances allowed). Then things changed … big Al changed.
To begin with, poor Al was always a bit self conscious … he had always known that he didn’t quite fit in anywhere, but he couldn’t figure out why. Albert carried himself well (he knew was of course from a good, strong family), but there was always an underlying insecurity that gnawed at him. And he didn’t know why.
Bill Clinton was too cool to be a friend. Even when Albert joked to Bill about his massage “victories”, the closeness & comradery that he hoped to elicit was still lacking. Bill would smile and slap him on the back, but Albert still felt like an outsider.
Then one day Albert saw buddy Bill Clinton, big-shot Jeff Epstein, and token Vernon Jordan standing together laughing/sniggering & smoking cigars. Big Albert, feeling overly confident for some explainable reason, walked up and said Hi. All three welcomed him with smiles and accepting laughter, and even though he missed the joke Albert joined in the laughter. Bill slapped him on the back and said “Hey Al, have a cigar”. Emboldened even further Albert chewed the crispy plastic wrapper off the cigar and told Bill to give him a light. Albert noticed how the other guys looked at him with joyful admiration. All in high spirits they finished the cigars, joking, laughing, all together. For once Albert felt like one of the guys.
Then, less than a month later Albert Gore heard the Monica news, and all the lurid cigar details. “Damn”, he thought, “They never liked me. They were all laughing at me. Bill is an asshole. No one ever has liked me.”
That was the moment Albert went over to the dark side. He never again cared about being one of the good guys … always trying to do the right thing. Circumstances be damned, everyone be damned. Big Al changed; all because of one slightly used cigar and the joker that gave it to him.

We all laugh at how stupid we think Gore is. Of course, the agenda that he’s pushing is, I believe, going to one day be looked at as one of the greatest scams perpetrated on the gullible. He knows this though, but it is the vehicle that has enabled him to accumulate many hundreds of millions (and many others behind this agenda). The Chicago Climate exchange alone likely made more millionaires than we can imagine. Gore is the typical career politician and saw an amazing opportunity to enrich himself. One only has to become familiar with Maurice Strong to understand that C02 was the vehicle to push an agenda.

August 24, 2017 7:05 am

The drought actually lasted from 2006-2009. Gore has gotten his facts wrong – AGAIN
The drying up of the rivers is directly attribted to the enormous increase in the number of wells dug for irrigation and teh subsequent withdrawl of vast amounts of water (232 in 1984 going to 2,391 in 2006)
