Independence Day for Anthony

Imback
me

Although he’s been running this blog as a labor of love for more than ten years, Anthony has never had more than a week or so off to relax and recharge.

Long time readers will remember me from the pre-Climategate days and the tumultuous period during and after.

I’ll be running the blog for the next couple of months while Anthony takes some well-deserved time off.

To introduce myself to readers who don’t have squatters’ rights that reach back into that distant past, here are a few posts from that ancient time, the old days, when the Internet ran on steam.

The CRUtape Letters™, an Alternative Explanation.

Climategate—The CTM story

Climategate–the Made Up Story, or Mr. Assange, WUWT?

And my favorite overall in the competition for best title.

I forwarded the email before I was against it

So things may be a little different around here through August.

I hope we can have some fun.

And don’t hate change.

Anyone else that still wants to volunteer to be a moderator, let me know via the contact form.

Also, I don’t read every comment on every post so if you need to tell me something, use the contact form.

Hey Chasmod,
Totally Ripper Mate; it’s a hat you truly deserve to wear.
I still can’t get over how young you look. Even with the soup strainer, you still look just like a kid.
Anyhow It’s good that Anthony has left the store in your hands while he’s sitting in on the G20 meetings with the guys (and gals).

Take heart, a week is not forever… All that i have myself is an iphone 3GS(!) A friend of mine found it back in 2010 and gave it to me. It works great and is the perfect size for carrying around. Newer phones woud drive me crazy, they are TOO big. (it’s murder finding new batteries for it though as they generally no longer make them) It would be nice to be able to use the features available with a laptop like linking to other people’s comments. But, i’m generally fairly contented with it (just as long as i have my little emoticon… ☺)
BTW, i think it’s spelled Milhous, without an “e”. (you don’t want to get archie bunker’s dandruff up)…

Thank you for the encouragement, Arthur. YOU may be content with that phone (and good for you), but I am not content FOR you. I just prayed that God will soon provide you with both a newer phone AND a good laptop.
Now…. let’s see what my phone does to Milhouse. Rats. I had to enter it into my phone’s dictionary, so, it came up with what you see (when I spelled it per Archie B.).
Take care.

My favorite Climate site. Lots of info. Anthony is a skeptic…who honesty posts some things that may question skeptics’ point of view. I made a small donation a week ago.
My position is that Co2 can warm the planet. But not to the extant the “consensus” seems to say. The sun…natural variability, much more important. I also think that a little warming may be positive for the planet…not the scare stories out there.
Good luck Anthony! When you come back…expect another donation.

So it’s fun you want, is it? Can we invite D**g Cott*n as a guest contributor please?
Actually for those that don’t know me or know my alternative identities in various other nooks and crannies I should tell you that about a year ago, during a particularly interesting scientific debate (not on WUWT), someone accused me of being him. I did laugh a lot.
Actually WUWT never disappoints for humor, considering the seriousness of the issue this says rather a lot the well adjusted nature of many contributors. And it makes a nice contrast when Mann goes in the opposite direction!

I had to look up “Gleickian” but that’s an illustration of one of the things I like about WUWT. Always something new to learn from someone who knows more than oneself. So, getting back to my idea, ,Mr.DC, what can we learn? (Apart from how to strengthen the resistance to the desire to shoot the messenger).
When you were at school no doubt you had teachers you liked and also those you absolutely loathed. Did you learn nothing from the latter group?

HIs wife having been killed by Hessians and his house burned down in a raid, Pastor James Caldwell was at the battle of Springfield outside his church. When the Patriot’s wadding (for loading muskets) ran out, he went in the church and brought out a hymn book by Isaac Watts, and began tearing out the pages.

I wrote some code to do a concordance for every mail and offered that out for folks if they wanted to
play with it. I’d probably rewrite it given all the new tools in R for textual analysis
The volume of mails was pretty huge and the only way for me to do what I do is I would have
to re read all of them and build up in my head a kind of mental map of everything
there was no way I could commit the time to do it the way I did before– basically read every last word
and every mail until i know the whole thing by heart. 1000 mails was easy, the whole batch?
too long.

Yep. And yet there are people out there who still desperately want to believe it was an external hacker and not an internal leak.
The thousands that were initially released were released after only a week or so of the last email dated in the bunch. That would have given a “hacker” only a week to put together the large set of coherent emails that was released and leave little else that people like Mosher and Anthony could find in the rest after all this time.
The only sensible explanation is that it must have been an internal leak compiled over a very long time by a concerned employee.

Mr. M0Sher,
Here’s a suggestion which has worked for me in organizing long research documents: as you plow through the information, create the outline as you go, using HEADINGS and headings and so on.
Each time you come to a topic which appears to be new to you, check your outline/table-of-contents-in-progress.
If topic not found, add (either as subtopic or a new MAIN topic).
If you would like some free secretarial assistance, I would be happy to help (once my new laptop is ready around July 12).
Just ask a mod for my email. This being the permission to give it to you.
Eager to get that last batch of climategate emails out there,
Janice

What if everybody just told the IPCC that we believe everything that they have ever said and so they need say no more. We got the message. Their mission is fulfilled. Would they shut up then, or would they just find another agenda to match their acronym? — IPCC (International Panel for Cup Cakes) — they become an organization for bakers. … IPCC (Innovative Perspectives Concerning Comedy) — they become an organization for comedians. … IPCC (Illogical People Constantly Complaining) — they become a rich-boy fraternity just for the hell of complaining about anything. … IPCC (Inventors of some Pretty Convincing Crap) — they stay who they are, just because they like what they do, no matter how stupid it starts to get.

What would we do without friends.

I guess you’re the guy who straightened me out on etiquette the other day (not allowed to call someone a science d•n••r) so your moderation bodes well for those who sometimes join the discussion and have a contrarian view to most here.
You were fair and friendly – that’s a good start in communication.
Cheers

Mickey Reno says, ” “Climate change could impact places in the US where its already hot.” ) OH NOES! WUWT, we still need you.”
On a May road tour to the ocean, we passed through a small town whose welcome arch said, “It’s the Climate”. I will say this town did have beautiful weather. So I decided not to take it as a double entendre by the sneaking municipal government announcing its intentions to support bad science and expensive green globalist policies, under mayoral authority.
But I could be wrong…
