SEE UPDATE ON EPA AT END OF THIS ARTICLE
These real vs. alternative facts have been in the news the last couple of days. Here’s a real fact for those that think and live in alternative world.
Trump silences scientists at EPA, USDA A message sent to EPA staff on Monday prohibits staff from creating press releases, blogs, messages, or any social media postings concerning their taxpayer funded work. The US Department of Agriculture has banned scientists and other employees in its main research division from publicly sharing everything from the summaries of scientific papers to USDA-branded tweets as it starts to adjust to life under the Trump administration.
Trump administration tells EPA to freeze all grants, contracts “They’re trying to freeze things to make sure nothing happens they don’t want to have happen, so any regulations going forward, contracts, grants, hires, they want to make sure to look at them first,” said Ebell, director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, an industry-backed group that has long sought to slash the authority of the EPA.
Commerce nominee Ross promises to protect “peer-reviewed research” at NOAA: “No valid reason to keep peer reviewed research from the public.” [link]
Trump administration tells EPA to cut climate page from website The employees were notified by EPA officials on Tuesday that the administration had instructed EPA’s communications team to remove the website’s climate change page, which contains links to scientific global warming research, as well as detailed data on emissions.
Here is why Trump can do these things:
Article 2 of the Constitution on the Executive Branch spells it out:
Excerpt of the key section:
Clause 1. The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.
Here the Framers spell out several of the president’s more important powers. First and foremost, he is commander-in-chief of the military. Second, he is the boss of the heads of all the civilian departments of government; the bit here about requiring their written opinions provides the constitutional basis for the cabinet. And third, he has the power to pardon individuals convicted of crimes.
Basically, the civilian departments such as EPA, USDA and NOAA now work for President Trump, with the Directors of these agencies working with the administration to further the President’s policies.
You may ask: What about academic freedom for government research scientists? Forget about it, it doesn’t exist. Scientists working in government labs, agencies, etc. work on scientific problems or technologies that further the administrations interests. Does this mean that it is legitimate for them to torque scientific findings in the direction of the administrations interests? No. Rather, it means that government employed scientists shall now work on projects that are of interest to the Trump administration.
That the Trump administration has different policy priorities than the Obama administration should be obvious to everyone by now. It seems that climate change is on the ‘hot seat’; I also infer from the attention being paid to the USDA is that GMO’s are on the ‘hot seat.’
These agencies under President Obama were infused with Obama’s ideology, particularly the EPA and NOAA (I know less about the USDA). Has this led to unethical behaviors in these agencies? I do know of one example, and I have post planned for Feb 5, stay tuned.
Source. (read more)
So, Trump has constitutional power behind this. Whiners about this should remember that Obama made 275 executive orders during his presidency.
The EPA climate web page has no original data there, they rely on NOAA, NASA, etc. Mostly, it is just EPA opinion. I predict there won’t be any significant loss.
We are in the ERA of post-normal politics, where POTUS plans to use his constitutionally granted power to restore balance to our government and bureaucracy, and doesn’t care one whit if some people are offended by it.
UPDATE: InsideEPAClimate is reporting this –
Trump EPA To ‘Stand Down’ For Now On Website Climate Data Removal Plans
EPA is temporarily suspending its plans to remove the main climate change page from the agency’s website, amid news reports that the page was slated to be removed Jan. 25, though the Office of General Counsel (OGC) has been tasked with reviewing the implications of removing some material, according to an agency source.
UPDATE2: I think it is safe to shut it down. The wayback machine has been furiously archiving it this past month:

That’s a brilliant cartoon — kudos!

i like the cartoon, too- nevertheless, kellyanne says the most idiotic things and looks like a hard used crack ho.
she is bursting-ripe for ridicule.
gnomish January 25, 2017 at 5:28 pm
The thing I like best about liberals is the compassion that they have for women striving to succeed, and the way they support women who have succeeded in the face of adversity … it’s inspiring.
w.
Nice mirror job on Gnomish…Willis.;-)
non-sequitur much?
you really should know better…lol
it’s shocking- shocking, i tell you – that i have to explain that are entitled to your opinion but not to alternative facts. there is no such thing. this betrays a fundamental epistemological pathology you should strive to remedy.
on your proverbial deserted island, this is what would kill you.

So, you hate and ridicule women who refuse to submit to your leftist ideology. Got it.

So, you hate and ridicule women who refuse to submit to your leftist ideology. Got it.”
yup, you got a dish of willis’ crap and eagerly gobbled it right down.
when pressed to substantiate your statement, though, you got nothin.
willis- do you troll your own threads because you think it’s what drives traffic at wuwt?
is the world calling to you to turn wuwt into huffpo?
heh. https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Unwarranted_self-importance
Yes, I see you crapping on any woman who refuses to submit to your leftist ideology. Keep up the good work! That way everyone can tell exactly what you are.
2hotel9
are you related to nasty ashley?
why so triggered?
oh- hey- did you know ‘gullible’ isn’t in the dictionary?
😉
As stated, keep doing what you do so everybody knows exactly what you are.
honestly, you’re as repetitive as shia laboeuf but not nearly so original.

if i pull your wings off do you become a ‘walk’?
Awww, you gonna cry for us next? Does that mean lady scare you that badly? Perhaps you should just go to your safe space and pretend she does not exist. Yea! That will make it all better.
Liberals really are horrid types these days and this is from a lefty. I can’t stand modern liberal\progressives. They are mentally ill
I noticed liberals love women firsts, yet KAC was the first woman to run a successful potus campaign, and timbleweeds.
Liberals also revoke kanye West’s blackness because he spoke to Trump, now KAC is not a woman any more because liberal bed wetting or something
People like gnomish is exactly why Trump won. I dont like Trump but the liberal left (who are in many ways more far right than the UK Tory gov) got him into office!
that’s right mark.
trump won because he was voted in by people like me.
but get on the clueless willis bandwagon and pretend i’m a liberal.
now you say the most idiotic things. tell me i hate you cuz you’re a woman, too, can you?
you and hotel’s alternative facts are just too precious.
You are the one crapping on a woman because you disagree with her political views.
‘a hard used crack ho’
Kind of classless, isn’t it? If you really are a non-liberal Trump supporter, there’s no need to perpetrate stereotypes. I frankly don’t mind going into the mud if someone else tries to take it there – I’m a big believer in the counter-punch – but this kind of off-topic crack is small minded.
‘Gnomish’. Hmmm. As in small like a gnome?
trump was the choice of those of us who are sick and tired of political correctness. that means you and your vaginal politics.
are you sure you want to preach that? it makes you sound like hillary, in case you care about your pure hypocrisy. she can be your role model. she’s alleged to have a vagina. don’t dare mock her.
equality means you aren’t sacrosanct because of gender or race or lack of wisdom.
we also vote with our dollars and willis just cost his host some money.
wanna play alinsky rules? do it on your own dime, it’s nothing i value.
toadying to willis has implications you might not have thought out fully.
how funny that you imagine it signals virtue…lol
i don’t have to prove my politics- you made the claim- you supply the proof. oh? got none? quelle surprise!
the fact that i need to remind you of that means you’ve got a problem. in fact, it’s so bad you can no longer self diagnose it. you’re ready to become a climate scientist.
what you owe is profuse apologies but instead you presume to speak about class?
keep digging – you may be able to hit a new low that the snowflakes didn’t get to.
Gnomish has vaginal envy. He’s disappointed that his hero won’t be interested in grabbing his genitals.
did you dummies notice that you have neither addressed much less refuted any of my statements?
did you notice your comments are simple minded ad hominems?
after all the discussions about post normal ‘science’, do you really want to defend the notion of mutable facts?
want to try for 2 out of 3?
Ralph Dave Westfall- i got a vid for you if you’re such a fan of my genitals:

you really should know better…lol it’s shocking- shocking, i tell you – that i have to explain that are entitled to your opinion but not to alternative facts.
You should read more in the way of epistemology. “Facts” are interpreted evidence. If you have been on jury, then you should recall the judge’s instruction about who determines the facts – the jury. The prosecution and defense present evidence. In science the same holds true; the “corrected” data sets made available by say NOAA are “facts.” They have been corrected away from the original measurement (evidence) – interpreted. So “alternative facts” are quite real. If they were not, there would have been no civil trial where OJ Simpson was held responsible for a murder he was found innocent of committing. Likewise, Trump really did lose the popular vote, and he really IS the 45th talking head of these here U-nited States. So not only can there be “alternate” facts, both facts can apparently contradict each other and still consistent with the available evidence.
you are confusing ‘narrative’ with ‘objective reality’ which is what spin doctors and lawyers do professionally.
if you haven’t yet figured out the fundamental axiom thenyou really don’t have the chops to argue epistemology
your narrative is false…. maybe you can get the consensus of a jury (oj’s trial might be a good example) or approval of that dude in widow’s weeds wielding the hammafor of authority- but anything that is not a fact is fantasy. there is no spectrum of validity. a thing is true or not. it’s a binary alternative.
i don’t need no post normal disney metaphysics, thanks a lot. take it to a hotel.
Refute your statements? You called the woman a “crack ho”. Where is your proof?
schwa
Wow, irrefutable proof right in our faces! Yea, with fact finding skills like that you should work for EPA!
Gnomesh…I will say what I have decided is the only answer to people like you…we won, you lost so shut up and stop crying like a baby.
omg, it’s an infestation and they come out of the woodwork when willis whistles.
what are the odds that this correlation has zero causation?
So Willis is in charge of the Trump Admin?!? Good to know. You are an unending fount of alternative facts, too be certain.
hey willis- you left the tap running and there’s a big puddle of stupid in the middle of the article now.
maybe consider turning it off any time.
Perhaps you should not have opened with calling a successful and intelligent woman a “crack ho”? What ya think, sunshine?
boo!
gnomish: ‘you presume to speak about class?’
I was actually talking about your complete lack thereof, and I will add that you’ve managed to turn a real low-life statement, that has nothing to do with ‘political correctness’, into an extended thread that basically proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Try not to drown on your own bile.
Digging that hole, a shovel in each hand.
narbits! big shiny ones!
this is the day of political correction .
now, when one discovers that the neurotic poodle pees the rug when it hears crinkling cellophane, one makes sure to carry cellophane!
crinkle crinkle!
do your sprinkle! that’s what your ‘we’ is good for, giddy groupie.
this production was brought to you by willis, the low wattage luminary.
🙂
So, to be clear, you blame Willis for you calling a successful and intelligent woman “crack ho”? That is really your justification? Just, wow.
welcome to the brave new world, snowflake.
What? Willis did not make you call her “crack ho”? He must be slipping.
miriam?
Awwww, aren’t you precious?!?!? Here is a clue, for free, don’t want no SH don’t start no IT.
gnomish – You should get out in the fresh air more often, that dark damp basement suit is effecting your reasoning !!!!
yep. more illiterate barking.
look up ‘affect’. then look up ‘effect’. then look up ‘fact’.
everything i said is true. you wet your own diapers.
everything you’ve had to say is rage boy disapproval, not reason.
have some more salt, slug. your autistic screeching goes well with liberal tears.
You would think, at this point, your fecal stained teeth would be hurting. No problem, I will merrily keep kicking you in them. Who else do you call “crack ho”? Michelle Obama? Nancy Pelosi? Maxine Waters? Mya Angelou? Go ahead, grace us with the full list, sweety.
Really? You have legally admissible proof that Kellyane Conway is a “crack ho”? Where is it, cupcake? Trot it on out and show us.
let me just quote you:
2hotel9 January 28, 2017 at 6:11 pm “…Kellyane Conway is a “crack ho””
Do you get dizzy from all your twirling and spinning, or just dizzier?

what a prolific producer. slippery willis has a rival!
out of curiosity, is the taxpayer subsidizing your failed bid for nanocelebrity?
And now you admit you are on welfare. Ain’t that special, HUD paying for your “residence” whiled you get internet connections by piggybacking on other people’s wifi. You just get more gooder and more gooder.
2hotel9 – see what a lifetime of obedience has got you?
your imagination has decayed to a tangle of political cliches.
i don’t feel your pain… but i do find it mirth provoking.
Yes, little penis, I “see” what a lifetime of you sucking Democrat Party c*ck has brought you to. And I have no problem heaping derision and ridicule upon you at every opportunity. You are a stupid c*nt, and are either too stupid to realize it or too f*cking stupid to care. Pick one.
well, hotel, if you can gimme a godwin, i’ll have run the table and can declare total victory.
how about it?
Clearly, as a leftard scumbag you is a wienner, no one can dispute that. Go ahead and regale us with tales of what a great conservative hero you are, we can all start our Monday with a good laugh.
just so you know, hotel, slippery willi could correct you in a heartbeat and you could go back to playing furry with the kids. why do you suppose it’s worth it to not?
more kellyanne alternative facts:

whatcha got to bray about that, 2hot?
use all your jedi powers,.. lol
So, you are still toddling around the intrawebs calling successful, intelligent women you disagree with politically “crack ho”. Thats all you got, sweety?
just waiting for you to bray me a godwin so i can call game, set and match,
2hotel9’s cry of anguish:
“to all you who have a better life than i
who attend parties to which i’m not invited
who take fun vacations
who have sex with friends
who ignore my existence-
cower at my snarls of my disapproval!
suffer my malignant attention!
i will blight you and you will be so sorry!”
willis should put on your leash and take you for a walk so you don’t pee the rug in impotent rage.
or maybe he likes yellow carpet.
We get it, you lost. It was over when you called an intelligent, successful woman who you disagree with politically a “crack ho”. Then you proved yourself to be laugh out loud stupid by claiming to be a big Trump supporter and voted for him. That was my favorite part. Then, to make it even more gooder, you are too stupid to just shut up and walk away. So, in summation, I will happily keep kicking you in your fecal stained teeth. Please, PLEASE keep it coming, that way people may become intrigued and scroll up to see what started it.
Leftarded stupidity, the gift that just keeps on giving.
you’re adopted.
And yet another admission of defeat. Just say the words, leftard, and move on to sh*tting on women some place else. Go back to Huffpo and call Michelle Obama a “crack ho”. Or call Maxine Waters a “crack ho”. Or call Nancy Pelosi a “crack ho”. You just keep being the leftarded c*nt you have shown everyone you are, and I will just keep kicking you in your fecal stained teeth, sweety.
milo has your binky. just crawl over and get it.
You are a precious little snowflake, you hate gays and women. Tell us what other group you hate, screech some insults at them, keep showing everyone what you are, sweety.
heh- save your breath – you’ll need it to blow up your friday.nite.babe
http://imgur.com/dtG8PeB
you’ll never be half the man Michelle Obama is
Ah, your little tantrum never ends, all those scary people being so superior to you makes you cry.
Out of 1,000,000 sperm, you were the fastest? special olympics? or spillover?
For someone who hates women and gays you are certainly obsessed with sex. Perhaps you should crawl out of mom’s basement and interact with a member of the opposite sex. Or the same sex. Or any sex. All that self loathing and vitriol are very bad for you. And stop hating your mother so much, sweety, it is all just as much your fault as hers.
i sincerely apologize for hasty speech-
obviously the correct number is 10 billion at least.
🙂
you just have bad luck when you try to think, right? if your I.Q. reaches 50, you should sell.
Ah, poor little snowflake! This is the best you got? No wonder mommie screeches at you all the time. Such a disappointment.
I don’t know what your problem is, but I’ll bet it’s hard to pronounce. 🙂
The problem is easy to pronounce, and you are it.
[trimmed. .mod]
Is there no end to your endless crying?!? wawawawawawawa You lost, America won, Trump is the President and there is nothing you can do about it, sweety.
that’s interesting to see the attempt to suggest that something i said was other than PG-13.
is it an example of a fake narrative being generated for the sake of PC?
passionate devotion to a noble cause like the kids at berkeley, maybe?
how about giving me my godwin, then? you know you want to.
I’m not a mod, I just enjoy watching you cry.
big wet tears streaming down my face.
but you keep calling me sweety and making lewd and suggestive remarks.
wuwt?
Wow, you have spent the whole day crying like a little beatch. And then you blame Willis because you are crying like a little beatch. Too f*cking funny. Why don’t you just call him a “crack ho” as you do women and gays you don’t like?
this is where you plead: ‘but willis said he was a liberal!’ (as if that should give you tourettes?)
willis won’t disabuse you of your faulty notions because watching you thrash about is rewarding to him.
but no, he didn’t actually say that. he merely stuck it in as innuendo, anticipating some unstable and not very bright fanboi would take the hint and hoot at me on his behalf. after all he’s given to wuwt, he should have some fun with his groupies, right? and besides – he can say it gets ‘eyeballs’.
no need to think beyond the immediate gratification of clickbait to win approval for that.
you (and apparently some others) are reacting as he hoped, so let’s play sorcerer’s apprentice, eh?
prove slippery willis right and fill this thread with stuff of compelling interest.
we can share that goal and i’ll try to pull my weight with more than the single word (and not even always a real word) comments and one-line insults i copied from a website.
i promise to be more creative.
there’s very little to go to fill this thread more than 50% with your furious foolishness. we won’t have any difficulty achieving that talking point but i do want that godwin, if you please. it would be the perfect ending to this parable.
how’s the snipe hunt going, hotshot? pwn3d!!111
just keepin my promises- i made this for you:
http://imgur.com/oVsuYBG
if you look closely…
Wow, now you pirate other people’s images and claim them as yours. I bet you will blame Willis for this, too. All that self hatred and loathing have really screwed you up, very sad.
i like when you go WoW.
it makes your mouth all round like goatse man.
P-} yarr!
Again, for someone who hates women and gays you are awfully obsessed with sex. You are clearly mentally disturbed.
so rerun, much lazy, mighty mooch.
did you ever not live off the taxpayer?
what other secret shame underlies your craving for approbation?
No, I have not. You seem to enjoy it.
i do come here for the schadenfreude, yes. so thanks.
i used to think there had to be at least 2 ants in the jar before shaking it.
you taught me a lesson. 🙂
Your little cry baby tantrum is quite entertaining, best part is all have to do is kick you in your fecal stained teeth and you just keep performing. Oh, in case you passed out again and forgot, Trump won and there is nothing you can do about it. Suck on THAT, again.
you kiss your dads with that mouth?
how many times did 2hotel9 say that?
a brief concordance of his personal obsessions)
Phrase #repetitions
‘crack ho’ 11 3 times in a single comment
‘sweety’ 6 liberally sprinkled
‘sex’ 5 4 times in a single sentence.
‘women and gays’ 4 because he doesn’t like tortles
‘fecal stained teeth’ 4 cuz 2hotel1cup coprophagic
so where i’m clever and funny, you are boring and repetitious.
it’s a symptom. diagnose it and seek remediation.
nearly half full but don’t you find it tedious river.dancing at your Pons Asinorum?
slippery willi could hold your hand and help you cross – but you might have to beg.
And you just keep crying and blaming Willis for your stupidity. Here, let me kick you in your fecal stained teeth yet again, still, dumb ass.
oh, my!
you really do need to crawl up inside a chicken.
it’s the only way.
😉
And more crying. Wipe your tears, Trump is President and you can do nothing about, no matter how much you hate women and gays.
Curious cartoon. The cartoonist is aware that the term came from the new government. It referred to the fact that whilst the crowd attending Obamas inauguration was visibly three to four times the size of Trumps,……it wasn’t!
An ‘alternative fact’ to describe an alternative reality?
Perhaps the cartoon is an alternative to, you know…clever.
BBC has some very interesting pics, taken from directly behind the rostrum as Obama, and then Trump, gave their Inaugural speeches and the crowds appear to be about the same size. Distributed differently because of different arrangement of security barriers, and yet appear about the same. Not even including live TV/cable/satellite feeds, live streaming on internet and what have you. Pics from the same location from each event, and from BBC no less. My, my.
and doesn’t care one whit if some people are offended by it…..
So we won’t notice any difference then. 😉
I fail to see the uproar over ‘alternative facts’.
It assumes that the alternative fact is untrue, but that’s only a warped way of looking at the content.
For example the pause in global temperature rise from 1998 till 2016 is a fact, but an alternative fact would be the temperature record over 40 years.
Both facts can be true and I don’t see the fuss over this particular phrase.
Of course you are right, Brian.
There’s facts and there’s facts.
Right now I’m really pleased that Trump is President. I just love the way he gets up the nose of the establishment. And if he torpedoes the CO2 flagship, I’ll be forever in his debt.
But he is a bit embarrassing, isn’t he? He says black is white, if it suits him to say so, and a little while on he says ‘black can’t be white’ – the inconsistency won’t trouble him one bit. He seems to live in his own bubble, ignoring the kind of counter-information which would cause most of us to modify – if not our actual opinions – then at least our utterances. He gives too many hostages to fortune and, when the honeymoon is over, I think they’ll get him. I’ve never met him personally, but I get the impression he has very little empathy, and is utterly selfish and self-absorbed. He is, frankly, not a very nice guy. These might look like good qualities for a President, but they can be dangerous. He’s also quite smart, so I just hope some of the really wise heads he is assembling around him (they look good appointments to me) will be able to shape a more recognisable and more widely acceptable administration.
He’s messing with the media. Both the “size of the crowd” and “election fraud” themes are like yelling “SQUIRREL!” and the media is falling for it hook, line, and sinker. Yesterday all the talking heads were consumed with chatter about Trump’s “obsessions” and “instability” while barely reporting on the world-changing executive orders he signed. They’re so predictable, playing them like a Stradivarius is no harder than throwing a steak over the fence for junkyard dogs, then opening the gate and walking right through.
Trump is playing 3-dimensional chess while the media is complaining that he upended their checkerboard!
To the eye, objects appear to change color depending upon the background. It isn’t the facts that change, it is their context
Mothcatcher:
I think that Trump has significant empathy that is why he negotiates so well. It is also why as Goldrider says that his apparent hostages to fortune are surprisingly well thought out landmines should the legacy media go there. On the black/white reversals – Trump is a negotiator not a politician. A politician seamlessly dissembles but ensures that the dissembling is completely consistent and when they get into power nobody is surprised that they do not follow the path they said they would. A negotiator will set the bounds by proposing wildly different extremes and see how much can be obtained eventually settling on something that works – then implements it. We are now seeing the implementation. All the commentators and talking heads are aghast – Trump is actually doing what he said he would do at the Gettysburg ‘contract with America’ speech and on the timescales he laid out!!
It also looks like he may have the 20% Federal staff cut he asked for ‘without firing a shot’ as 28% of the Federal workforce have apparently said they will resign. This may be a Hollywood going to Canada promise though, so we will have to wait and see.
I think your conception of Trump is completely wrong. I don’t see him that way at all. You have been listening to the MSM too long.
I think he told these taxpayer funded government workers that they are supposed to be working on defined government matters, and not wasting time blogging to all and sundry about what they are supposed to be working on.
That of course does NOT impede their freedom of speech to say whatever they want privately; they just aren’t supposed to be using government facilities to do so, so they should not be using their government positions to promote their own agendas.
And citing some NOAA stuff is the same thing; NOAA shouldn’t be putting out taxpayer funded stuff on blogs either.
G
Goldrider,
I had the same thought. Trump is a “Boss”, not an ego maniac like Hillary and a lot of other politicians. I know that if I were President, I would serve up a Red Herring to the Media everyday.
excellent analysis, Goldrider. Also, I think it’s not that hard to see what he’s doing with the “voter fraud” issue which has the MSM in a lather these days. His opponents are shrieking “There is no evidence of massive voter fraud!” and foaming at the mouth at the very idea that he would contradict them.
I believe an objective outsider would say that there always is at least some fraud, but whether its a big problem or a small problem is open to question, and I think that’s the most that any objective observer could say. The MSM have taken this and instead, decided to go all-in on their belief that there is NO voter fraud at all, because that suits their narrative. Trump, rather than pointing out the uncertainty (which someone of my temperament would do) has instead decided to kick over their anthill by asserting loudly that the opposite is true – that their IS massive voter fraud.
Now, is either of these positions a “lie”? No, because the objective truth is that we have no idea either way – but this also means that one view is just as good as the other.
So now Trump calls for an investigation – how can that be opposed? For his enemies, it will be the perfect way to Prove Him Wrong and shut him up. BUT – the MSM can only win if the investigation validates their absolute position, which is that there is none at all. If significant fraud is found even though it is not massive (a good possibility) then Trump will be quick to claim that the MSM were orchestrating a cover-up because they must have known about it.
Trump is taking a big risk, but it’s one in which he gets a win out of most of the possible outcomes. I think he’s built his entire career on taking risks like that.
I read an extract of the novel “Trump and Me”, by Marc Singer, which had a quote from The Donald from 1997 — 20 years ago! — which, paraphrased, went something like “The thing I do worst is handle the press. They think I’m a total flamethrower, but I’m really not.”
He also discussed crowd size with the writer while talking about a parade in which he’d been a deputy grand marshal. He handed over some clippings on the parade, saying “There was a million four at the parade. These clips say 500,00, but believe me, there was a million four.”
So, twenty years ago he had press problems and argued crowd sizes. Why are people surprised today?
wws:
“There is no evidence of massive voter fraud!”
Trump’s actual tweet (in part) was: “I will be asking for a major investigation into VOTER FRAUD, including those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and”
The key being those “two states” (probably California and New York but also others) where because of the lax rules illegals are most likely voting in large numbers. Even though technically illegal here’s how California get’s around it:
“They made a law (2015 Motor Voter Law) that allows all California illegals to apply for a driver’s license. This law combined with 2013 Assembly Bill 60 (automatic voter registration when getting a driver’s license) effectively results in allowing illegals to vote, because having a license now automatically registers “eligible” voters to vote in California.”
Then there is this in general applicable to any state allowing issuance of drivers license to illegals:
“As a result, the preferred form of documentary identification in the United States is the drivers’ license. Drivers’ licenses are issued by the states, pursuant to a widely varying body of state-specific laws and regulations. Currently, twelve states and the District of Columbia allow illegal aliens to obtain a drivers’ license.”
I would say that these Dem fraud voting doors need to be closed permanently.

Hi Goldrider,
I said this very thing the other day that I though Trump was purposely throwing the media bones for dogs to chase after so they are too busy trashing him over stupid things than ripping apart all the executive orders he’s signing. All the hate blinded anti Trump people are engrossed in these stupid things rather than all out protesting all the really big important things he’s doing. He’s keeping the entire media off balance and they are just running in circles biting at the easiest thing he throws showing how petty the media actually is.
Trump lost CA by 4.3 million, and the whole nation by 2.8 million. I.e., he won the non-CA nation by 1.5 million. And the CA voter reg’n system is a voter-fraudster’s dream.
It is odd, the only people opposed to showing ID when voting are the ones actively registering illegal aliens to vote.
“To the eye, objects appear to change color depending upon the background.”
This is my favourite “alternative fact” in that regard:
I love how DJT has trolled the leftist media into demanding an investigation into “voting irregularities”. Absolutely brilliant!
wws:
Voter fraud. Look at the Detroit recount post election.
Looks like I said something forbidden.
Bryan, another fact would be the temperature record over the last 200 years.
Or there’s the temperature record over the 10,000 years.
The first shows that the rise in temperature over the last 40 years is nothing unusual.
The second shows that the current temperatures are not unusual and are in fact significantly lower than other recent time periods.
MarkW, you have it right – “It’s the context, Stupid!”
Our California Governor Brown just pronounced in his “State of the State” address than California was going to fight the higher temperatures and sea level. He is providing us alternative facts to justify wasteful spending in a Quixotic fight against natural climate change. Greenland ice core and Atlantic sediment core studies show we are now in the coldest 10% of the past 10,000 years, and that sea level is now lower and increasing at less than half a foot per century, far below the average of two feet per century for the past 18,000 years.
Given a chance, I would simply ask Governor Brown if temperatures and sea levels had been higher in the past 10,000 years, and then record whatever alternative facts spewed from his lips. I know I could not change his beliefs – you can’t change anyone’s beliefs – but you can ridicule them if your facts have a strong basis in observations, and his have their basis in coincidence.
Well for the last 650 million years the Temperature has stayed between 12 and 24 deg C.
Hardly worth bothering about that’s 21.6 deg. F and Sunnyvale Ca can change much more than that in a single day.
G
The use of “alternative facts” was to deny the undeniable, that Trump’s inauguration crowd was only about one third the size of Obama’s crowd in 2009. The pictures don’t lie – but Trump lies, and his lackeys lie. There is only way to call it – they’re liars, or delusional, neither is a helpful characteristic of our nation’s leader.
Now, if Trump wants to suppress the independence of the EPA, he can do so, but only as Federal law allows. A great many of the actions and acts of the EPA are dictated by law. Meaning, that the law will need to be revised on those acts or actions. Which is a good thing to do, as this is a democratic republic and our Congress is supposed to do its job, which quite frequently it hasn’t by leaving way too much up to the agencies to work out on their own via the rulemaking process. If Congress will now start being more explicit in how it writes environmental law, that is a great thing to do.
But let’s not fall for Trump’s delusional, authoritarian line of BS wherein he – the government – gets to determine what is fact and what is not. The people cannot govern ourselves, through our elected representatives, if there is no longer any such thing as a fact unless The Donald declares it is a fact.
We are not North Korea.
You need to re-visit your sources and see the corrections and the CNN gigapixel photo and others taken when Trump was present at the inauguration, not before. The crowd size was equal or bigger.
In any case the EPA is in the Executive branch and works for Trump and at his pleasure. The fact that they do little if any productive work does not help their case, no matter how loudly they whine and scream…
Check out the CNN Gigapixel. http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2017/01/politics/trump-inauguration-gigapixel/ Perhaps Trump is more truthful that the media portrays?
CNN has recently published a gigapixel of the inauguration that seems to refute the photo they published earlier. http://edition.cnn.com/interactive/2017/01/politics/trump-inauguration-gigapixel/
“You need to re-visit your sources and see the corrections and the CNN gigapixel photo and others taken when Trump was present at the inauguration, not before. The crowd size was equal or bigger.”
No, that is incorrect. Even right leaning Fox News’ Chris Wallace said the Trump crowds were much smaller. He was physically there, not just reporting remotely. http://www.politicususa.com/2017/01/22/fox-news-trump-lying-inauguration-crowd-size.html
Some people believe unquestioningly the first thing they read, see or hear. Or if it comes from an “authority”. One word for people like that is “suckers”.
“The use of “alternative facts” was to deny the undeniable, that Trump’s inauguration crowd was only about one third the size of Obama’s crowd in 2009. The pictures don’t lie”
Well, that would depend when those two pictures were taken, now wouldn’t it. If one were taken before the area filled up, it would make it look like there were fewer people, than one where the picture was taken after the whole crowd had gathered. Do you know what time of day the pictures were taken? I didn’t think so.
There were also reports that the extra security and the radical Leftist demonstrators held up people from getting to the site.
No. It’s a Constitutional Republic. As to “Laws” vs regulations, the EPA pushed out thousands of ideologically motivated regulations that affect most of us and they were all enforceable at the point of the sword, so to speak. In other words, they had the unconstitutional (I believe) weight of “Laws” due to the Obama DOJ’s (and the eRepublicans) refusal to consider them as anything but enforceable laws.
The use of “alternative facts” was to deny the undeniable, that Trump’s inauguration crowd was only about one third the size of Obama’s crowd in 2009.
A third?
Not chicken little – what are your sources for the the attendance at the inauguration?
Now, if Trump wants to suppress the independence of the EPA
EPA is not and has never been independent. Everything it does, it does it because it suits those in power, and it would not be doing it otherwise. When the views of the person in power change, EPA role can only change with it. Sure, this may require to change some of the people currently working at EPA.
How useful is that? Another Perry. I’ve always been of the opinion that a Perry is an exceptional person & here we have two.Are you my alter ego Perry?
Which pictures? The ones taken before the Inauguration Ceremony? The ones taken after? The ones taken during? Why no time stamps on the pics released by MSM? Why the obfuscation? Funny, pics taken of each immediately after the swearing in, from directly behind the rostrum, when they are giving their speech, show a crowd of approximately the same size for each. Damn those kinds of pics, hard to twist those to fit an agenda.
I don’t think that this is the correct sense of an … alternative fact. All you did there was introduce a DIFFERENT fact. The “alternative” part refers to an alternative to that EXACT context of the original fact, as I see it.
I could say that a fact is “the temperature record over 40 years”. Another fact is that “I like chocolate pie”, but this is NOT an alternative fact to “the temperature record over 40 years”. It’s just a DIFFERENT fact for a DIFFERENT context of discussing facts in the specific context.
FACT: Hope this helps,
ALTERNATIVE FACT: Just kidding.
Agreed,
a better way to state the quote would be
“For example the pause in global temperature rise from 1998 till 2016 is a fact but an alternate fact would be the lack of a hiatus from 1998 till 2016 in the adjusted (Karlized) data
kellyanne is a professional spin doctor.
all ‘facts’ are mutable to her.
a thing is true or not. there is no such thing as an alternative fact.
Alternative: (of one or more things) available as another possibility.
“the various alternative methods for resolving disputes”
synonyms: different, other, another, second, possible, substitute, replacement, alternate
Alternative facts are those that you simply ignore because they are inconvenient. Just ask Gore.
Just because something is true doesn’t mean that it’is the truth.
JC
“Just because something is true doesn’t mean that it’is the truth.”
zero milligrams.
you found a dictionary and got as far as ‘A’?
did you run out of steam before you reached ‘F’ for ‘fact’ ?
or did i miss some irony?
I suspect you are confused Ben as to the difference. The Moon orbits the Earth. That is a fact. The moon is a satellite of the Earth, that is an alternate fact. The moon is made of Green Cheese. That is just not true and is not a fact.
Over 200,000 people attended Trumps inauguration, thats a fact. There were big crowds, thats an alternate fact.
There were 1.5million people there, more than Obamas inauguration, nope, that is a lie.
Don’t confuse differing views of an agreed observation with downright lies. There can be some difference in inter-observer reliability. But downright lies are just that, lies.
How exactly does the number of inaugural attendees affect the future of the yanks (from an onlooker point of view)?
re: “There were … people there …”
Simple ‘claim’ or assertion sans cite or presented evidence, therefore, no point awarded.
The EPA and “environmentalism” are key tools in the war of the coastal elites against the deplorables from fly-over country. Trump was elected by the deplorables. He cannot advance their interests without crippling the EPA, which is one of the elites most important tools in their continuing effort to impoverish and demoralize the deplorables.
Maybe Trump should turn it around and attack the Elita’s massive beachside houses, claiming the houses are destroying habitat…
I thought it would be better to deport their gardeners and maids.
Or maybe just deny the owners federally subsidized flood insurance.
Ironic, but the habitat will sooner destroy the houses. Always has, always will. Man somehow persists in his desire to reside there.
Trump administration tells EPA to cut climate page from website
This has apparently been rescinded for the time being
https://insideepa.com/daily-news/trump-epa-stand-down-now-website-climate-data-removal-plans
“Trump EPA To ‘Stand Down’ For Now On Website Climate Data Removal Plans”
Don’t see what this has to do with climate DATA. It is climate propaganda that is being removed. EPA is not a source of data, nor an archiving service. Other govt. bodies are charged with that.
yet more politically motivated BS, trying to pretend Trump is damaging “science” when EPA is not a science body.
Josh, you should sell posters. I would buy them and sure others would too.
Unfortunately, Hillary did not win any election. The ‘popular vote’ is constitutionally meaningless. The States of the United States elect the president based on their internal elections. Hillary won support from the populous coastal states and had some electors allocated to her, but she did not win support from sufficient States of the United States to have sufficient electors in the electoral college to win the Presidential Election. The USA is a Republic of States, even if the progressives wish it wasn’t.
Ian,
Just to add to your comment:
In the baseball World Series of 1960 the NY Yankees scored 55 runs and the Pittsburgh Pirates scored 27. If one does not understand the game, one might think the NY team won. The Pirates became the champions that year.
Hillary lost. She knows she lost. She knows the rules. She went home.
As quite a few campaign managers have stated over the years (Including Al Gore’s)
They run their campaigns based on the rules in existence at the time. Different rules mean different campaigns. Changing the rules after the campaign has been run and the votes counted is a fools errand.
“Fortunately, Hillary did not win the presidential election.” There, fixed it for ya. ;-D
the dems always think they would win a popular vote … what they don’t realize is that many millions of conservatives DON’T vote in California, NY and Massachusetts Presidential elections because its a waste of time in an Electoral system … a true popular vote election run after a populate vote campaign would be a completely different game … dems would get crushed …
I heard from a totally irreputable source that Hillary won the popular vote because of Russian hacking.
Now that some form of that statement has been printed on the internet, it is possible to write: “It has been reported that Hillary won the popular vote because of Russian hacking.”
Ah, the wonders of alternative facts.
http://cartoonsbyjosh.co.uk/calendar
The USDA touches so many things I suspect that Trump, et. al. just want to get a sense of the nature and scope of the beast, then start cutting out the cancers one-by-one. The list includes too many subsidy programs to mention, including bio-fuels, food stamps and other entitlements, all kinds of local grants for things like irrigation and drainage infrastructure. They also have a huge research budget, much of it goes to land-grants, but they also have started to stray into areas where they should not be working, and the final part is the outreach, or extension programs. This latter function has CLEARLY! been out of control during the Obama years leaning more to advocacy than real education.
Trump’s stated targets are a reduction of the federal budget by 10% and personnel by 20%.
Very modest reductions, and a good start. Do that twice in 2 years and we will be getting somewhere!
This reduces the ability of the permanent bureaucracy, safe in the largely unaccountable regulatory agencies, to push its own agenda. Great idea!
The EPA’s website states
EPA’s Acting Administrator
Catherine McCabe
https://www.epa.gov/
I did not find, in a quick look, reference to Gina McCarthy.
Things are moving ahead behind the screens?
Departments remove information about department heads prior to the next administration taking over as part of the transition schedule.
Thank you for that information. If there is an “Acting Administrator” that seems to imply something more than just removing information about dept. heads. Or do dept. heads automatically step down at each change of administration?
From my limited experience, it would seem that department heads, the President and any person appointed and anything possibly linking to the previous administration’s platform are removed.
The people below the heads are put into temporary positions until the transition team of the new administration determines what they will do with them.
I’m not sure if it is across the board, but it also seems as if other organizational changes are made to put everything in a compartmental like structure as the transition team reviews the structure.
Thanks to both of you. I, too, had been looking for that information. I thought I just wasn’t doing it right. Now, I understand.
That it should be necessary to remind people that the Chief Executive is actually in charge of his subordinate cabinet departments is a shame. It clearly shows how little so many people who advocate “climate change” actually know.
Climate change? I accept that the climate is changing. Over 20,000 years ago the area where the present city of Chicago is located was under almost a mile of glacial ice. Today the ground is bare. So, obviously the climate changes. It is always changing. Something would be dangerously wrong it it didn’t.
The moon’s climate doesn’t change. The moon is also lifeless. I haven’t quite figured out the connection, but I’m sure there just has to be one.
Maybe it’s because the diurnal temperature range is a constant 289 C.
I’d like to see a guess at what Earth’s daily temp swings would be at the equator, if whatever happened to Mars ripped the atmosphere and water from our planet.
What happened to Mars will happen to the Earth when our core cools to the point where the magnetic field collapses.
Mark, I wonder how Venus, with its still weaker magnetic field, holds such a dense atmosphere?
My mistake, I missed the magnitude calculation, Venus is higher than Mars in Gauss at the equator, sorry.
I also see that the MFs of both Venus and Mars are primarily atmospherically sourced with much less from solar wind (molten core) dynamos. The counter rotation of Venus accounts for its low core-dynamo output (less than the atmosphere), so Mars is left with a frozen core and remnants of crustal magnetism, but only a wisp of a atmosphere to generate a field.
Thanks Mark, I learned again today.
From the screenshot of the EPA website posted above:
Alternative fact:
Respond to these questions to see how deep you have been brainwashed.
Seems like the USDA “stuff” has been exaggerated (EPA too?), from this news posting. http://www.omaha.com/money/usda-s-agricultural-research-service-bans-release-of-news-releases/article_f830beea-e26c-11e6-89e1-bf33fe6da23d.html
Ah. The World Herald. I grew up in Omaha. Thanks!
If the Dems would stop delaying tactics the new EPA boss would be in place to start his policies. Until he is there, nobody at the EPA should be promoting past policies.
8 years ago, anything the Republican did to slow down any of Obama’s nominees was unacceptable obstructionism.
Now, just as it was 16 years ago, it’s just normal politics in action.
All facts are only true when taken in context. Change the context and a fact becomes a lie.
most of the things described as “facts” are in fact opinions … and not actual facts 🙂
Sure there exists such things at alternative facts. For instance, the global warming pause exists, as confirmed by scores of peer reviewed scientific papers trying to explain as to why the Pause does so exist. And then there is that NOAA sponsored study that shows that when you change the baseline, this global warming pause does not exist. Science is grand when not in the hands of those fulfilling a political agenda.
Perhaps the refusal to release legal FOIA requested information will change now too. I wonder how Gavin is doing nowdays with the new Sheriff in town?
Oh wait!
http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/nasa-global-warming-climate-change-denial-donald-trump-interference-science-a7421416.html
The arrogance of NASA scientists burns. They really are having a hard time dealing with the idea that they have a new boss in town, who has complete authority to tell them to stop what they are doing and to work on something else or leave.
ossqss,
Thanks for the link!
Gavin Schmidt spouting his alt opinions from his alt world….
All workers, work on what their boss tells them to work on.
Period.
That includes scientists.
That includes scientists who work for the government.
If you want to determine what you are going to work on, become self-employed.
Dingdingding We have a winner! Absolutely right.
Nothing special about asking employees of ANY business organization not to publicly editorialize in print about company policy or internal affairs. Hell, I’ve got that in my contract for a HORSE BARN!
Yep, it’s just “horse sense”.
Josh…you have been watching to much CBSN
Trump administration should go on offensive and change the trajectory of the discussion, e.g.,
Would you prefer affordable energy or a meaningless 10 ppm decrease in CO2?
Would you prefer a job or 5 ppb reduction in lead in streams?
Would you prefer your grandchildren have a functional economy or do you think the EPA knows better?
Would you like to control use of your own property or do you believe Washington DC is smarter?
etc.
Dead on!
I’m wondering how the environmentalists are going to fight President Trump. In Canada, they were able to recruit the Indians. Because of their treaty rights and the Canadian constitution, the Indians are able to get court judgements that I don’t think are available to their brothers south of the border. The resulting legal process was highly effective at holding up pipelines. link
It is a whole different arrangement here. For all intents and purposes the recognized tribes in the U.S, and their tribal lands, are similar to sovereign states, and have a substantial degree of self-rule. That’s how they can run tribal casinos without any interference from local or state governments. Their ability to sue is pretty similar to a state suing another state in federal court, and that almost never comes out in favor of the plaintiff. As an adjunct to the treaties that recognize the tribes and their lands the U.S. Feds have a large degree of sovereign immunity.
If the Native Americans don’t want a pipeline on their land they shouldn’t be allowed to use any of the products of that pipeline, such as gasoline, diesel, plastics, etc.
“If the Native Americans don’t want a pipeline on their land they shouldn’t be allowed to use any of the products of that pipeline, such as gasoline, diesel, plastics, etc.”
OK, so we’ll put a freeway next to your backyard. And if you oppose it, we will ban you from driving on the freeway.
Not just that freeway, but any freeway, plus not be allowed to use any products transported over any freeway.
I’ve looked at maps and it seems to me that the Dakota pipeline trace was not on Sioux land. Seems to me that they tried to confuse people with the claim that it was their “sacred land”. So anyone have any “alternate facts”?
IIRC it is not on Indian land at all, however it crosses a waterway that may impact them.
Do I see another ‘Wounded Knee’ in the pipeline?
Absolutely right
They have all the rights with none of the co-responding responsibilities of citizenship.
Welfare, tax exemptions and veto power are their greatest asset, with no contribution to the improvement of Canada, thanks to our courts.
You really can’t make a blanket statement like that. The conditions are remarkably different on different reserves. Some bands are really pulling their weight. On the other hand there are reserves where twelve year old kids are killing themselves. link
The really annoying thing is that there are bands who want the training and jobs that will come with the pipeline. The environmentalists are courting and encouraging the ones who just want to protest and collect welfare. Of course, to the environmentalists, their fellow humans don’t seem to matter at all.
It appears the best way to trim the bureaucracy is to overhaul it. I like that approach. We’ve had so many cosmetic repairs that added so much weight to the constitutional ‘frame’ and monetary ‘suspension’ that we can’t seem to get out of the driveway anymore as a country. After some time in the shop, this ‘ol jalopy’ administrative infrastructure will get some real horsepower!
Oh, there’s more. The U.S. Congress has “contitutional power behind this.” You’re on the Internet; Web search the “Holman Rule” regarding the lawful power accorded the officers of the House of Representatives and the federal Senate to “zero out” the budgets of federal agencies and even the salaries of specific federal bureaucrats.
The climate quackery can be cut off at the roots right now, utterly and completely.
If Trump can get EPA to drop requirements for those hideous vapor proof fuel can spouts…he will really be an American Hero.
(You know the ones…they protect the earth by forcing us to spill gasoline all over it.)
+1
But now as I recall that was the result of a successful lawsuit against a gas can manufacturer. The WSJ had an editorial about it a few years ago. I don’t remember the details but someone got a lot of money blaming the gas can for their misfortune. Similar to the lady who won a million dollar award for spilling McDonalds coffee on herself.
The hot coffee lady at least had some merit to her case. She suffered third-degree burns. Last I checked, it’s not standard restaurant procedure to heat the coffee to flesh-eating temps.
All coffee is hot. All coffee will burn you if you spill on yourself fresh out of the pot.
The other customers wanted the coffee to be hot enough that it would still be warm by the time they got to the office.
The lady spilled the coffee because she took the top off the cup then put it between her legs while driving.
The lady was an idiot and had no grounds for her suit.
She won because juries tend to view insurance companies as piggy banks that they can use to pass out free money to sympathetic clients.
MarkW says: “All coffee is hot.”

Yep!
Here’s an alternative statistic for ya!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_federal_executive_orders#Consolidated_list_by_President
President Trump has signed over 140 executive orders per year since entering office but Obama only signed 34.6 per year. There’s an egregious abuse of power right there!!!
I wonder how many executive orders Obama signed in his first week.
Extrapolating 3 days activity out over an entire year has to be one of the stupidest things I’ve seen this year.
Obama signed 5 in his first week, so Trump is issuing them at twice the rate so far. http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/executive_orders.php?year=2009&Submit=DISPLAY
A minuscule difference.
Only those who are only interested in promoting fallacies care.
Wait a year, then compare then number both signed in a year.
PS: Obama signed more EO’s than did any previous president. That’s a lot of EO’s to cancel.
MARKW provides us with another alternative-fact: ” Obama signed more EO’s than did any previous president.”
But the winner is: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/01/23/obama-executive-orders/
.
.
FDR
Just too subtle I guess.
I thought the number of exclamation marks would give me away. I didn’t think I would need to spell it all out, what with the title of the post … the cartoon at the top … the obviously left-leaning data-mining excercise that falls into the ‘anything to trash Trump’ camp remit …
But, just like the mainstream medias’ headlines being what sticks no matter how many retractions, how much backpeddaling and any number of apologies after the event – If you don’t come back to this post you may forever colour any of my rambllngs with the impression you picked up above.
So, for future reference [thinking only of the children] I mostly gave up on fighting the nonsense after this post on my climate related blog:
http://www.agwbs.com/agw-is-fake/trust-me-im-a-climatologist.html
btw MarkW – Obama signed 5 in his first five days. Obama signed less EOs than all except GHW Bush, Gerald Ford and JFK. You then have to go back to McKinley to find another who signed less then he. Everyone else since signed more.
Trump has a lot of bummers orders to rescind.
markw – twice the rate is a miniscule difference. yeah, right.
so in less than a WEEK in office you find stats for his first YEAR in office? amazing stuff.
You guys – do we really need an /sarc tag everytime someone takes the piss?
I wonder about some of the guys on ‘my side’ in this war I really do.
Maybe Bill Taylor got it but also missed his /sarc tag?
Sorry, I thought I was cracking a joke. I’ll go away again now.
Henry’s own link shows that he has only signed 10 as of yesterday. LMAO
@ Henry Galt,
We can “take the piss” as good as anyone.
That’s all it was.
Relax.
Most of Trump’s executive orders are being used to cancel Obama’s executive orders. Obama’s executive orders were extra-Constitutional (illegal), and Trump is just putting everything back in order and making the rules conform to the Constitutional.
Alternative-constitutional…
HA! };>)
The pro-warmers have been trying to and succeeded in silencing the questioning of global warming for years now.
This is their own medicine and they should just take it.
When I worked for the quasi-independent Postal Service, (before Twitter, etc) there was no way in hell I would have the authority to release anything internal to the business or represent my views as connected with my employment – that’s what out public liaison officer did – and the legal staff. Thinking that one works in an organization and can defy one’s boss and say what the heck they wanted whenever they wanted to is ludicrous. There were many policies and decisions I disagreed with, but I always had a clear choice within the law: Shut up or move on. Whistle blowing is another kettle of fish – very much outside this discussion.
Speaking of alternate worlds, Hypestat must be in the Ctrl-Alt-Del Universe too.

Did I misunderstand you?

Just read there will be a “scientists” march on Washington in April.
Expect to see John Holdren make a big scene in front of the White House Gate, with MSM cameras rolling, where he will denounce the President and Cabinet and Government and end by tossing his security badge to the White House over the Gate, thus becoming Persona Non Gratis to the White House.
Popcorn is popping! Ha ha
It was another good day ‘in the news’!
God Bless America and all who love Her!
Florida shut the FDACS up about Globur Clamup Warmun last year. Its not something they’re paid to deal with or have the authority to discuss.
The usual arch global warming propagandist site CBC could not resist, signed by Nicole Mortillaro:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/us-agencies-trump-muzzling-science-1.3951472
Would be funny to see Mann and consorts walking under snow denouncing global warming…
When a country has to gag its scientists to ensure they don’t release information as to what is happening to your environment, you know you are in deep trouble.
the EPA still publishes plenty of information … just thru approved channels … don’t be a moron …
And yet you are all for “gagging” anyone who does not submit to your leftist ideology. Funny how that works.
And when a “Scientist” refuses to provide access to the data used in producing their work thereby making their work irreproducible, that really isn’t science then.
And when the Empirical Data requires constant adjustments to realign with Model Output, this too isn’t science.
Both of which happen in Climate Science, which apparently isn’t really science then.
What’s just horrifying is that the EPA, the DOE and the DofAg have signed agreements and treaties with foreign powers and or international bodies.
These agreements are being used to enforce behind our backs domestic policies on energy production and agriculture.
That is why it was so significant that the questions regarding attendance in Rio and Paris were asked. The work will never be over until these agreements and massive payments are all found out and publicized.
If I had one meeting with the President, I would ask that the Administration please thoroughly investigate the Department of Agriculture’s five year agreements with China. And I would suggest that the new Administration consider Leonard Gianessi for his expertise and knowledge about the importance of the simple, effective fumigants, pesticides, and fertilizers which are being quietly banned through “trade” agreements with China and Europe.
To illustrate the insanity of blocking all use of pesticides, look at the utter failure of the Forestry Department. Millions of acres have been seized from the states by the federal government, and under their mismanagement and poor science, beetles and fires have devastated lands which should have been managed, protected and used by the states for logging/replanting, mining, recreation and preservation.
re: “the EPA, the DOE and the DofAg have signed agreements and treaties with foreign powers and or international bodies.”
Cite please, because, from: https://diplomacy.state.gov/discoverdiplomacy/diplomacy101/issues/170661.htm
we have this alternative ‘take’:
A TREATY IS a formal, written agreement between sovereign states or between states and international organizations. In the United States, treaties are negotiated through the executive branch, which includes the Department of State. Once the negotiators have accepted the terms of the treaty, the president sends the treaty to the U.S. Senate for its “advice and consent” on ratification, or endorsement.
Here is the ref for the China-USDA agreement:
Des Moines, Iowa, Feb. 16, 2012—Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and China’s Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu today signed an historic Plan of Strategic Cooperation that will guide the two countries’ agricultural relationship for the next 5 years. The plan was signed as part of the U.S.-China Agricultural Symposium held today at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates. The symposium focused on bilateral cooperation in the areas of food safety, food security and sustainable agriculture, as well as enhanced business relationships between the two countries.
“This symposium and plan are a product of a vision I share with my dear old friend Minister Han for the United States and China to work more collaboratively in the future to benefit our nations and agriculture around the world,” Vilsack said.
“This plan builds on the already strong relationship our nations enjoy around agricultural science, trade, and education. It looks to deepen our cooperation through technical exchange and to strengthen coordination in priority areas like animal and plant health and disease, food security, sustainable agriculture, genetic resources, agricultural markets and trade, and biotechnology and other emerging technologies,” he added.
As far as the EPA heads attending Paris and Rio (which were COPs for international environmental agreements), you were there for that. Richard Windsor, etc.
Next ref for the UN-EPA agreements:

“The TPP gives the UN power to make the US adhere to all of the EPA’s environmental laws, including anything agreed to in Paris. It also gives the UN power to veto any weakening of the EPA regulations at any point in the future. If we strictly enforce ALL of the current or future EPA regulations in EVERY state then we can be fined BILLIONS for damages and restitution. Below are some of the relevant sections.
Article 20.1: Definitions – Environmental Law
– for the United States, an Act of Congress or regulation promulgated pursuant to an Act of Congress that is enforceable by action of the central level of government;
(EPA currently has this power)
Article 20.12-9. Where a Party has defined the environmental laws under Article 20.1 to include only laws at the central level of government (first Party), and where another Party (second Party) considers that an environmental law at the sub-central level of government of the first Party is not being effectively enforced by the relevant sub-central government through a sustained or recurring course of action or inaction in a manner affecting trade or investment between the Parties, the second Party may request a dialogue with the first Party. The request shall contain information that is specific and sufficient to enable the first Party to evaluate the matter at issue and an indication of how the matter is negatively affecting trade or investment of the second Party.
Article 20.15: Transition to a Low Emissions and Resilient Economy
1. The Parties acknowledge that transition to a low emissions economy requires
collective action.
Article 20.4: Multilateral Environmental Agreements
1. The Parties recognise that multilateral environmental agreements to which they are
party play an important role, globally and domestically, in protecting the environment and that their respective implementation of these agreements is critical to achieving the environmental objectives of these agreements. Accordingly, each Party affirms its
commitment to implement the multilateral environmental agreements to which it is a party.
No Party shall fail to effectively enforce its environmental laws through a sustained or
recurring course of action or inaction in a manner affecting trade or investment between the parties, after the date of entry into force of this Agreement for that Party.
If any country disputes that the US in NOT enforcing it’s climate laws then:
The dispute will be settled under Chapter 29 (Dispute Settlement)
According to Article 28.19: A panel consisting of Three members will determine the amount of compensation and damages to be awarded to the “injured” party.”
payments to the UN through the federal bureaucracies ref:
“How much money does the United States currently contribute to the United Nations and its various agencies? Surprisingly, no one knows for sure.
The State Department does report on its spending at the United Nations, but it is only one of several federal agencies that give money to the world body each year.
In its fiscal 2014 State and Foreign Operations budget proposal released in April, the Obama administration asked for $1.57 billion for contributions to international organizations, including $617.6 million for the U.N. operating budget — up from $568.8 million in fiscal 2012.
But other agencies giving to the U.N. include the Departments of Labor, Energy, Agriculture, Defense, and Health and Human Services, CNS News reported.
Fiscal 2007 legislation stipulated that the Office of Budget and Management (OMB) report all federal agencies’ contributions, but the requirement expired in 2011.
Now Republican Sens. Mike Enzi of Wyoming and Mike Lee of Utah, and others, are submitting legislation that would reinstate the requirement.
“It’s disturbing that no one, including our ambassador to the United Nations, knows exactly how much money we send the U.N. every year,” Enzi said in a statement.
“With a national debt exceeding $17 trillion, we need to be able to account for every dime we spend, including what we send to the U.N.”
The last OMB report to Congress on U.N. contributions was issued in June 2011 and covered fiscal 2010. It showed that State was just one of 17 government agencies giving money to U.N. organizations, funds, affiliates and other bodies, and the total expenditure that year was $7.69 billion — more than 10 times the amount requested for State in fiscal 2014.”

just remember that there was no “facts” as to the inauguration crowd size … there were estimates … some better informed than other BUT ALL JUST opinions not FACTS … so Trumps press sec had a different opinion and possibly a less informed one … but not actually alternative facts …
Pesky real facts get in the way of your post: http://thehill.com/policy/transportation/315277-dc-metro-ridership-for-trumps-inauguration-far-lower-than-obamas
Only one variable and your source is suspect.
Jim, if you don’t like my source, check out the data for yourself: http://isotp.metro.net/MetroRidership/Index.aspx
..
You can shoot the messenger if you wish, but there are multiple sources of data the show that the “alternate facts” are……lies.
If I arrange to beat the bejesus out of you and your pals if you go somewhere I don’t like … you might think twice about riding with me, eh?
Washington DC is in the middle of one of the bigger blue spots in the red and blue map of the election votes. That means the people with easy access to the inauguration were mostly liberals. They would get to the inauguration by public transport and as you point out, it went, not surprisingly, unused. The people who would want to get to DC to see Trump’s inauguration live way out in the red boonies. They’d have a long car, bus or train ride just to get to DC while they could stay at home and watch it on TV. So it’s not a conundrum that the crowd wasn’t as large as liberal Obama’s inauguration, it is common sense.
Possibly alternative facts simply refers to the alternatives to all of the lies or lying implications and spin put on stories blasted out by the msm.

If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor, if you like your insurance company you can keep your plan, Benghazi was a protest about an anti-Muslim film, I never used my cell phone for any confidential government information, blah, blah, blah………

Alternative facts???
Yep.
Just reverse whatever the MSM says.
+10 works for me!
I just picked this up from the SIERRA CLUB. They are sending out letters. You can just hear the panic. Here is an excerpt: “We’re FURIOUS – and I know you are too. The Sierra Club has a plan to stop Trump and his toxic funders from gaslighting the media and destroying our planet pipeline by strip mine. But we need your monthly support to do it. Will you help right now? ” We need your monthly support added a nice touch but not until they had scared the bejesus out of their poor supporters. Does anyone know what “destroying our planet pipeline by strip mine” means? Wheeeee, I think somebody needs some medicine.
Always comes down to them wanting money. Perhaps it is time to make them fully account for all this money? Where has it gone, who has it gone to, what exactly they got for it/with it?
There’s at least one good thing that’s come out of this presidential election – the exposure of the emperor’s new clothes. Had the Democrats won, the farce might have been maintained a bit longer, with an even more painful awakening. Anyone who can’t recognize liars calling each other liars ad nauseam over a period of months has lost the ability to think. The turn around in “scientific knowledge” under the new whip should be equally eye-opening. More and more people will be forced to accept that they can’t trust government-paid scientists any more than they can trust those paid by corporations selling drugs, tobacco, sugar, and oil, etc..
“accept that they can’t trust government-paid scientists any more than they can trust those paid by corporations selling drugs, tobacco, sugar, and oil, etc..” That is a bullseye on both counts.
The left is not the democrat party of the early 60s. That party is dead, no longer exists. The progressives/socialists/communists have taken over the party. The hard left has always been the party of the lie. Their philosophy is based upon a lie and their strategy and operating plan has always been to tell a lie loud enough and often enough so that it becomes the truth, a fact, if you will. Alternative facts, therefore, become necessary. Create emergencies and then take credit for the solution whether the solution solves the problem or not. None of this is new. The fascists used the same tacticts but were just better at it, particularly when they could use violence to enforce their policies as did the communists. Plus the fascists understood the incentive provided by the profit motive and the desire for people to improve their personal situation. Communist China is probably more fascist today than communist.
CNBC posted this an hour ago “EPA data under scrutiny by Trump administration’s political staff”. Stated in the article is this important bit ” “The Trump administration is mandating that any studies or data from scientists at the Environmental Protection Agency undergo review by political appointees before they can be released to the public.” ”
This is great news, …http://www.cnbc.com/2017/01/25/epa-data-under-scrutiny-by-trump-administrations-political-staff.html
Love this one, UC profs on notice to do their activism on their own dime !

Notice that all the departments that are under orders are ones without a confirmed Cabinet Secretary.

I can’t see what the fuss is about to be honest. The webpages will surely change when the new sheriff is installed. Today, tomorrow, next week…what’s the difference?
If the greens wish to look at the archived pages as if they were love letters from a former girlfriend or boyfriend then they are welcome.
How many hard drives at the EPA have been/are being wiped with a Hillary cloth? Hmmmm?
Hard drives, paper shredding, evidence destruction. Yea, it is time for FBI and multiple IGs to go through ALL Federal agencies like a dose of salts.
The Constitution. Wow, I thought Democrats had removed that from US government 25 years ago. They have certainly worked hard enough at it. 😉
As for employees at Federal agencies and Free Speech, they are the same as military members, restricted on where, when and what they may speak of. This is covered in the first day or two in Basic Training in the military. There are restrictions on what government employees may disclose about there work/jobs. With the state of electronic communication in today’s world people can very easily cross a line on these restrictions, and there has long been a need redefine these restrictions so people DO understand them.
The screams and squeals of censorship have already commenced. This is going to be fun, seeing as certain people in USG and academia have been altering and hiding certain data concerning climate and energy production. A thorough vetting and investigation will bring to light all manner of interesting “facts” about a whole lot of people.
As BOSS, President Trump needs to disarm the EPA, DHS,DOE, IRS & other Gov agenciess!
The spectrum of agencies whose employees are armed is cause for real concern. The authors note that IRS agents have access to AR-15 military-style rifles, Health and Human Services “Special Office of Inspector General Agents” have been trained by the Army’s Special Forces contractors, and the Department of Veterans Affairs boats 3,700 armed employees.
According to the op-ed, federal officers with arrest-and-firearm authority numbered 74, 500 in 1996; over 200,000 exist today. As the authors ask, “What exactly is the Obama administration up to?”
On Friday, the authors’ organization, American Transparency, will publish its OpenTheBooks.com oversight report, which will enumerate “federal purchases of guns, ammunition and military-style equipment by seemingly bureaucratic federal agencies.” The authors write, “During a nine-year period through 2014, we found 67 agencies unaffiliated with the Department of Defense spent $1.48 billion on guns and ammo. Of that total, $335.1 million was spent by agencies traditionally viewed as regulatory or administrative, such as the Smithsonian Institution and the U.S. Mint.”
Here are some more staggering statistics: between 2005 and 2014, the IRS spent $11 million on guns, ammunition and military-style equipment; the Department of Veterans Affairs spent $11.66 million, including over $200,000 on night-vision equipment, $2.3 million for body armor, over $2 million on guns, and $3.6 million for ammunition; The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service “spent $4.77 million purchasing shotguns, .308 caliber rifles, night-vision goggles, propane cannons, liquid explosives, pyro supplies, buckshot, LP gas cannons, drones, remote-control helicopters, thermal cameras, military waterproof thermal infrared scopes and more.”
There’s more: The Environmental Protection Agency spent $3.1 million on guns, ammunition and military-style equipment; The Food and Drug Administration has 183 heavily armed “special agents.”
And more: the Small Business Administration, Social Security Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Education Department, Energy Department, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, National Institute of Standards and Technology have all increased their arsenals.
“During a nine-year period through 2014, we found 67 agencies unaffiliated with the Department of Defense spent $1.48 billion on guns and ammo. Of that total, $335.1 million was spent by agencies traditionally viewed as regulatory or administrative, such as the Smithsonian Institution and the U.S. Mint.”
The rats are getting their lifeboats ready…
All most as if they are preparing to fight a war against somebody. Wonder who that could be?
The question is, where will he hang the photo of the inauguration event?

I wonder if I put the link of the Inaug pix below, will the image appear? (Note: This is a large image!):large
Anyone following the science shouldn’t be mystified by the notion of alternative facts:
Fact 1 – Water vapor is a greenhouse gas that warms the atmosphere.
Fact 2 – Water vapor cools the atmosphere when it has condensed into clouds.
The first week down, Trump’s use of the Constitutional powers of the Executive Branch has yet to collapse the universe. Shocking, I know.
Here n the cold AM of Sunday and DJT has again, still, exercised the Constitutionally defined duties of the Executive Branch by taking steps to secure America’s borders. And the left and other America haters are blowing their collectivist gaskets. How dare a President insist that people entering the country from known anti-American terrorist breeding grounds be thoroughly vetted?!?!? That basitich!
14 days in and still waiting for DJT to cause a blackhole to engulf the Earth. So far zilch on the “destruction of all” meme. Though he and his friend Ahnold got together and yanked the media around by its leash, that was funny. And offering Mexico military assistance has really got them screeching. Gonna be boring when they finally figure it out.
