Hump Day Hilarity: Dewey Defeats Truman Déjà vu

Almost everyone has seen this famous photo of a newspaper headline from the 1948 election. Today, history repeated itself.

deweydefeatstruman

Dewey Defeats Truman” was an incorrect banner headline on the front page of the Chicago Daily Tribune on November 3, 1948, the day after incumbent United States President Harry S. Truman won an upset victory over Republican challenger and Governor of New York Thomas E. Dewey in the 1948 presidential election. It was famously held up by Truman at a public appearance following his successful election, smiling triumphantly at the error. -Wikipedia

The most Hillary hilarity today is to watch the “analysts” double down on their loony-tunes Leftist beliefs while trying to figure out what happened.

They’re not “trying to figure out what happened.” They’re trying to figure out how to tell YOU what happened so they stay in charge of the narrative.
When I was a kid I discovered the easiest way to solve those “maze” puzzles they put in the newspaper and kids’ magazines, was to start at “Finish” and work my way backward to “Start.”.
MSM are the exact same way. They start with the narrative, then trace backward till they can figure out a way to make their idiotic world-view work, no matter how convoluted.

Yes, I believe that is the one Mr Trump himself talked about last night.
I’m now waiting for a picture of Hillary where she famously said: “What difference, at this point, does it make?” in her testimony before congress regarding her failures about the Benghazi attack. The answer to her question of course is ‘THIS is the difference – YOU LOSE!’

Yes and does the word “Potsdamer” above the headline have any relevance? It seems to ring a bell with respect to a famous German Instiute known as a prolific factory for failed predictions. I believe the term means a square or plaza in German, but in the climate world it simply means incompetent. Meanwhile in Canada I am listening to some of our national media report on the election in what they probably think is a very objective manner, when in fact it is all about highlighting what they feel is wrong or dangerous about Trump while ignoring the major concerns with the alternate.

“Potsdamerplatz” is the name of a famous square or plaza in Potsdam, a city in Germany (and also the name of a well-known German chorale or hymn-tune). “Potsdamer” means “of Potsdam” and likely refers to the name of the newspaper.

Potsdam is a city in the province (“Land”) of Brandenburg (of which Berlin was the historic capital long before it was capital of a united Germany). The front page of the newspaper clearly describes it as “the daily paper of Brandenburg”. NO RELEVANCE

Here’s some unsolicited advice for the pollsters:

Add a question to your surveys about how much the respondent trusts the mass media. Then adjust the results for people who admit to not taking what they get from the media as undeniably true.

Potsdamer Platz is perhaps more famously in Berlin. I remember looking over ‘The Wall’ in 1971 to see the East German guards goose stepping in a scene of utter devastation left from 1945. The contrast to how it looks today has a pretty obvious lesson.

Indeed, how did that speech from Martin Luthor King go, something about character, not physical characteristics, being the most important thing (paraphrased).
p.s. I remember when Mr. Trump made a comment regarding a judge along the lines of “he’s Mexican”. I have noticed that it is common for Americans (at least in media reporting) to relate closely with their ancestral origins. This manifests in 10th, say, generation Americans calling themselves e.g. “Dutch” when they are definitely not and this is amplified when there is a fine breakdown of the populace at election times, we see Latino-Americans, Cuban-Americans, African-Americans etc. etc. etc. instead of Americans singular. What happened to the American melting pot.

However… They also had the contents printed, for the Clinton edition – and not the Trump version.
No, not collusion with the Clinton campaign, I believe.
Just typical New York Publishing Elite Gods.

I wonder how many of them even know this short poem:

They are such ignorant, mean, and despicable people.

Looks like a case of somebody counting their chickens before they came home to roost….
FYI, the railroad car that President Truman was photographed on is the “Ferdinand Magellan” a special Pullman Car modified for exclusive service for POTUS FDR in the 1930’s.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Magellan_(railcar)
As extreme armored car an there ever was one, they put multiple lengths of railroad rail in the floor and encased them in concrete. It has 3″ thick bullet proof windows and escape hatches in the roof above FDR’s bathroom to extract the POTUS if there was an accident. A monster car with a weight of 285,000 pounds, the heaviest railroad passenger car ever in the USA.
It is a US National Historic Landmark and is preserved in Miami. It was the “Air Force One” of it’s day.
As a climate related factoid several people rode out Hurricane Andrew inside this car and survived unscathed as the hurricane passed just about directly overhead.
Cheers, Kevin.

Western Maryland, Eastern Maryland, Western Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania – all covered with Trump signs. The media never bothered to leave their echo chamber safe zones so never got a feel for how the rest of the country was trending. But if you never spend any time talking to anyone other than like minded people, then – yes – this result would have come as a complete surprise. I, however, was not (well, maybe a little).

You know what I’m waiting for? Just a bit before the election Michael Moore did something surprising and at least partly understood why trump was doing well. In doing so, he said something somewhat positive about people considered to be on the political “right”.
As many of us here know from experience, taking a stand on something like that is…well darned near heresy to the left. Is it possible that a media darling like Moore might be ejected by the left and forced to face the stark reality of…well…reality outside of that echo chamber?
