Friday Funny – some people just aren't clear on the concept of 'crime doesn't pay'

Get a load of this. We’ve all heard the usual hate-speech that climate skeptics should be “locked up” for having an alternate opinion.

But, did you ever think you’d see something as ridiculous as this in the NYT?

…inmates generally consume less than an average citizen in the country, so fewer prisoners might mean higher overall energy consumption.

Additionally, the money saved from reducing crime would go into the governmentā€™s budget and peopleā€™s pockets. All that money could be spent in other ways ā€” infrastructure, buildings or goods ā€” that may require more energy to produce or operate, possibly adding more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/04/science/climate-change-rebound-effect.html?_r=0

The author, Tatiana Schlossberg, is the granddaughter of JFK

http://www.etonline.com/news/184542_jackie_kennedy_lookalike_granddaughter_rose_schlossberg_launches_comedy_web_series/

In other words, if weā€™re all locked up, thatā€™s good! Smaller carbon footprint!! More criminals running free means more GHG’s. Perhaps this will quell the mentally aberrant thinking of California Governor Jerry Brown, who wants to release even more criminals -both violent and non-violent.

I don’t think anyone, including Dave Attenborough, can stop violence in prions. Prions aren’t even as smart as viruses. There’s just no chance of that happening. Orson Scott Card wrote a very long treatment of the subject in his “Ender” series; prions are Djur, “capable of independent thought and action, but their mode of communication could not relay any meaningful information to the subject because the djur itself lacked the capacity for rational thought and self-awareness”.
No help coming for Prions.

Hmmm. Didn’t ‘Sir’ Attenborough refer to humanity as a ‘plague’? Or was it a ‘pestilence’?
Either way, this is part of the justification process for ‘getting rid of them all.’
Or just 90% or so.
As long as the rest of them don’t touch anything.

Well, giving distractions and mental stimulation reduces idle time and frustration. I can see how giving any sort of educational material could be beneficial to prison violence. Nature videos are probably a better choice than Breaking Bad reruns, but you could probably get a similar effect from musical theater.

Think of the carbon savings if many people simply died – just the unimportant ones, of course, who do not contribute to the right party or at least provide muscle to scare and subdue the populace.
It scares me that the (D)irtbags were talking about the unifying advantages of war or even alien invasion a few years ago, since then they’ve shut up and started getting all bellicose with Russia and China while aiding Iran’s pursuit of nukes and doing everything possible to stir civil wars in western countries.
I think the wealth imbalance has reached a point where our rulers are not much interested in more money, they seek the luxuries of a less crowded world. And consider the advantages of Islamic/sharia law for those who are rich – it is a belief system well suited for oppression of the powerless.

Crime doesn’t pay.Hum,i think the term is relative to the illegal code making of the time,do you not.70% of code has a victim less target.War on drugs is a clear example of this.In truth Gov does not care one bit about crime. It gives the reason and there fore allows continued stealing by gov from the general populous. The greatest crime participation is by gov ,so by saying that crime does not pay ,the author chooses to ignore the benefactor of crime! In reality the freedom less society is the greatest crime of all and the the people as astute students of it’s propaganda machine to keep the status quo is like lying to one’s self for the benefit of paying out more tax.Does that not make you feel better about your self?

Same gose for tax lawyers. If you can’t pay your taxes, who’s going to pay your tax lawyer; now just think about that for a bit.
Who has an incentive to let you off with a discount to get you back in the tax trap.
Now you don’t really believe that the IRS and the tax lawyer would be in cahoots do you ?

Yr: “I’m convinced liberals are mentally ill.”
Yeah, I’ve been kinda thinkin’ along those same lines ever since a recent perusal, by moi, of the ATTP blog in which the mysterious, tri-polar ANDERS/wotts/ATTP offered up two posts braggin’ about his most recent fossil-fueled vacation, complete with carbon-porn trophy-photos of the same–one of the posts even featuring a photo-spread, inter-weaved with a breathless, tryin’-to-be-a-regular-guy-but-not-quite-succeeding account of Anders’ quality-time, carbon-thrill adventure at an–sitting down?–airshow! (Google: “andthentheresphysics still on holiday”) , in which airplanes are photographically celebrated, not only belching CO2 from their engine exhausts, mind you, but also streaming colored smoke, as well. And all the comments, attached to that one post, either encouraged Anders to keep on enjoying his carbon-wallow good-times, or (more commonly) got into a point-scoring, “I’m-the-real-alpha-aviiation-buff-among-us-greenwashed-dorks-and-don’t-you-forget-it-wotts!”, show-off, rival-airplane-picture-and-anecdote, passive-agressive, one-upmanship exchange. And not one of wotts’ Gaia-freak commenters took ATTP to task for his CO2-spew revelries! Can you believe it?
So I’m just gonna have to call out ATTP as a complete, crapulous*, brazen-hypocrite carbon-piggie!
*And before one of you mouth-off, Mr. Smarty-Pants hive-bozos pops up here, with the snarky, snide suggestion that I just might want to look up the definition of the word “crapulous”, let me advise you, in advance, that I have just liberated that word from the figurative chains and barbed-wire of its Orwellian, gulag hell-hole, in which the lefty-infiltrated, so-called “Dictionary-community”, hoped it would remain immured for ever, and restored that mighty word to its natural and rightful meaning–“full of crap!”–to be wielded as a supreme rhetorical “blade” by us “good guy” lovers of Liberty and ethical science in our never-ending, Manichean struggle against “the other”–the trough-seeking, sell-out, geek-ball eco-pukes who, like so many feckless, sissy, Sisyphus-wannabe wusses, labor daily, and fail, to make their impossible-to-please hive-mummies proud!
You know, like: Al Gore is a “crapulous” fatso! Or: Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has, like, a total, privileged-white-dork wanker-name, not to mention that he is also, oh by the way, a “crapulous”, vat-boy skin-job! That sort of thing. crapulous! crapulous! crapulous!

The Dos earn the money and become Haves
The Haves have children, and depending on quality of parents, can produce more Dos
However, eventually, you will get a Do-Not in the chain.
Depending on how bad a Do-Not they are, their fortunes will fall until they become Have-Nots.

Assume “Progressive Liberal Elites”, and those who want to be, comprise as much as 10% of the population. Any measures to reduce the planet’s population so that the Liberal elites were an even smaller percentage would disproportionately affect those very ‘elites’.
Given 7 billion souls on earth, reduction to half a billion would mean a 93% reduction. Reducing 700 million world-wide elites and their hangers-on to 50 thousand would require a reduction in their number of 99.993%.

Thanks to the three strikes law, we are incarcerating people for 25 years to life for minor shoplifting.
Even the extreme case of letting some clown shoplift enough food to feed himself for the rest of his life is orders of magnitude cheaper than keeping him in jail. He’s probably crazy anyway and if he got treatment he wouldn’t be a problem any more.

Actually, I withdraw that comment. She has read some research on this. Yes folks, there is a research article. She over-reports its findings:
Summary
Governments estimate the social and economic impacts of crime, but its environmental
impact is largely unacknowledged. Our study addresses this by estimating the carbon foot-
print of crime in England and Wales and identifies the largest sources of emissions. By
applying environmentally extended input-output analysisā€“derived carbon emission factors
to the monetized costs of crime, we estimate that crime committed in 2011 in England and
Wales gave rise to over 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents. Burglary resulted in
the largest proportion of the total footprint (30%), because of the carbon associated with
replacing stolen/damaged goods. Emissions arising from criminal justice system services also
accounted for a large proportion (21% of all offenses; 49% of police recorded offenses).
Focus on these offenses and the carbon efficiency of these services may help reduce the
overall emissions that result from crime. However, cutting crime does not automatically
result in a net reduction in carbon, given that we need to take account of potential rebound
effects. As an example, we consider the impact of reducing domestic burglary by 5%. Cal-
culating this is inherently uncertain given that it depends on assumptions concerning how
money would be spent in the absence of crime. We find the most likely rebound effect (our
medium estimate) is an increase in emissions of 2%. Despite this uncertainty concerning
carbon savings, our study goes some way toward informing policy makers of the scale of
the environmental consequences of crime and thus enables it to be taken into account in
policy appraisals

There is a good case to be made for locking up all Warmistas until they come to their senses. A time in jail would help them regain their sanity.

Surely by the time any penal “reform” can be put into action , Pres Clinton will have achieved her ambition to make the US a 100% renewables nation , so that the economic activity of its residents will be equally carbon free whether they are incarcerated or not .
In fact if economic activity is greater outside prisons than within , and that activity requires power from renewable sources (which involve subsidies to the select few) then it is in the interest of the subsidy farming sector to close down the prisons, More activity = more power use = more subsidy , No?

If enough American Citizens are so totally dumb as to vote that lying crook into the White House ” so as to be a part of history “, then I’m afraid we totally deserve what we will be about to receive.
When I hear about all of the purportedly intelligent people who have already voted (twice) to have been a part of the “History of The United States of America”, well we won’t have enough room to engrave all of your names onto the gravestone of freedom; but we will never forget what you did, and what you are almost as surely going to do to us again.
I never really thought I could possibly watch the fall of the United States of America, before I go and join all the lawyers around the fires of hell; but it is looking increasingly likely all the same.
Those who get all of the free stuff, at no cost to them, tend to value it at that same valuation.
The ghosts of the Mayflower will come back to haunt us for failing to learn their nearly catastrophic lesson about collectivism, versus free enterprise.

Thatā€™s in line with lunatics who claim Cubaā€™s broken economy is ā€œcarbon friendlyā€

Actually, according to Bill McKibben, formerly of 350 org, the Cubans’ diet and economy is semi-sustainable.
What is the Cuban diet?
“According to my Mexican friends, ordinary Cubans are not allowed to eat beef. Instead, what beef there is in Cuba is reserved for the nationā€™s rulers and for tourists who can pay for it with foreign exchange while staying at the all-inclusive resort hotels.
It is in fact illegal to sell beef to a Cuban ā€” not that any of them outside the ruling class would be able to buy much, since the average wage in Cuba is about 50 cents per day, or one-tenth of the minimum legal wage in Mexico. With this pittance, Cubans must subsist on the subsidized rations made available to them by the government. These comprise 5 pounds of rice, 5 pounds of sugar, 1 pound of salt, 10 ounces of beans, 8 ounces of cooking oil, 0.15 ounces of coffee mixed with unknown stuff that isnā€™t coffee, 6 ounces of very-low-quality fish, and 1 pound of a disgusting product made from unsalable animal parts, per month. No fruits or vegetables are included.
I repeat: These rations are not free, but must be paid for, with the total bill consuming most of a Cubanā€™s monthly salary. This leaves almost nothing to spend on additional food, which is available on the black market or in ā€œdollar stores,ā€ where reasonably good food, donated by Western aid agencies, is sold at (non-Cuban) supermarket prices to foreigners or government elites holding dollars or euros.”

But then again, perhaps carbon-friendly is the same as semi-sustainable. I would rather talk about secondary sewage treatments than about what the meanings of these terms are!

One almost expects the elitists to admit that they want to exterminate everyone except themselves and some useful workers (slaves). If they were not so set on virtue signaling with their opposition to the death penalty, they would be calling for mass executions.
For now, they settle for promoting abortion on an industrial scale. Look at all the praise China got for its forced abortion policy and preventing all those nasty humans from being born. When the government announced they were changing the policy, there were leftists decrying the effect on “humanity” and Gaia. Their humanity is the decent person’s inhumanity.

Never mind prisons. How about slavery? Just think of how much less energy per person they’d use. And think of all the money it would save, which could be put to good use building more bird-and-bat choppers and zappers.
Slavery now! Think of the children.

(H.R. slaps forehead) Why not? No sacrifice is too great to save the planet! But let’s make it voluntary servitude, shall we? I’ll put up a website where people can sign up. Naturally, one would expect the profiteers leaders of the efforts to ‘save the planet’ to sign up first. They can start by pulling all of the weeds along I-95, starting in Florida, and they will be permitted to keep and eat any of the weeds they pull. Of course they will be issued scissors to trim the grass while taking care of the weeds.

…ā€¦inmates generally consume less than an average citizen in the country, so fewer prisoners might mean higher overall energy consumption….
I’d certainly like to see the data for this.
If I lived in a large building with continuous guards, heating and lighting, I would have thought the per capita energy requirement would be greater, not less. The fact that an individual prisoner might not use much energy is minor – the total system uses a LOT…

Back in the day…. Rose Mary Kennedy (JFK’s sister), they solved the delusional problems with a frontal lobotomy (very nasty). Lobotomies are no longer medically ethical. Probably why we have an epidemic of liberal lunatics in US society compared to 60 years ago. Rational people realized back in the day there was something not right with some people, and they lobotomized them or institutionalized them.

I think our warmist friends are not really taking advantage of the situation. They could use the time spent in prison to brainwash the inmates to become better citizens. They could even encourage prison time for younger criminals to start the process early too!

“In other words, if weā€™re all locked up, thatā€™s good! Smaller carbon footprint!! More criminals running free means more GHGā€™s.’
On one hand it suggests that but then it seems to contradict it saying that less crime might be good for the economy resulting in more GHG
These kind of people are so crazy that they cannot make up their mind – probably because they do not have one.

Anthony. I was surprised to see to see an ad for the South African government’s Department of Environment Affairs on this WUWT post. While it is exuberant about conserving rhinos, this department is also besotted by carbonophobia, and is pushing for the introduction of a carbon tax in this population- and job-stressed country. I know Word press sells advertising, but is there no say over what appears on WUWT? It is also telling that a government department can see fit to use public money to advertise on a skeptic blog! Why?
