Guest essay by Eric Worrall

The UN is looking for a replacement for retiring UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and Christiana Figueres, who is credited with re-invigorating the global climate process in the wake of the Copenhagen disaster, is a top contender for the job.

Christiana Figueres, the UN official who helped steer the Paris climate change accord to success in December, has entered the race to succeed Ban Ki-moon as the organisationā€™s next secretary-general.

Ms Figueres, daughter of a three-time Costa Rican president, joins a large field of contenders for a post tipped to go to a woman for the first time in the UNā€™s 71-year history.

A colourful diplomat known for speaking her mind, she vowed to deliver a new model of ā€œcollaborative diplomacyā€ and the organisational reform that has been a hallmark of her time running the UNā€™s climate change secretariat in Bonn over the past six years.

ā€œThere is a prevalent feeling that the UN has stagnated, operates excessively in silos and is not fit for purpose,ā€ she said in a ā€œvision statementā€ supporting her bid.

Eleven people have already thrown their hat into the ring, including Helen Clark, one of New Zealandā€™s longest serving prime ministers, and Irina Bokova, a Bulgarian who heads the UN agency Unesco.

Christiana’s official vision statement;

RESTORING HOPE

The objective of the United Nations is to provide the architecture through which countries can address their common problems, peacefully resolve their disputes and support each other in building strong, prosperous and just societies. This is the foundation of international peace and security. Much has been achieved by this unique institution over the past 70 years, thanks to the dedication of its Member States and the commitment of its staff worldwide.

The question before us now is how to address the exigencies of a future so mired in complexity. In the face of rampant injustices, abuses, unrest and conflicts with increasing ramifications, there is understandable despair. But given the stakes, failure to address these challenges is simply not an option. Humanity has created these challenges, and we ourselves can and must step up to address them.

To do that, we need a UN that reclaims its standing as a beacon of hope; a reason for global optimism that calls us toward a compelling vision of the future, rekindling our confidence and inspiring each and every one of us to live up to our highest purpose.

It is for the opportunity to pursue this vision that I am honored to accept the nomination of Costa Rica as candidate for the position of UN Secretary-General.

According to Bloomberg, Figueres thinks Chinese Communism is a better form of government than Democracy, when it comes to addressing climate change.

Biggest Emitter China Best on Climate, Figueres Says

China, the top emitter of greenhouse gases, is also the country thatā€™s ā€œdoing it rightā€ when it comes to addressing global warming, the United Nationsā€™ chief climate official said.

The nation has some of the toughest energy-efficiency standards for buildings and transportation and its support for photovoltaic technology helped reduce solar-panel costs by 80 percent since 2008, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, said yesterday in an interview at Bloomberg News headquarters in New York.

The country is facing growing public pressure from citizens to reduce air pollution, due in large part to burning coal. Its efforts to promote energy efficiency and renewable power stem from the realization that doing so will pay off in the long term, Figueres said.

ā€œThey actually want to breathe air that they donā€™t have to look at,ā€ she said. ā€œTheyā€™re not doing this because they want to save the planet. Theyā€™re doing it because itā€™s in their national interest.ā€

China is also able to implement policies because its political system avoids some of the legislative hurdles seen in countries including the U.S., Figueres said.

I’ve got to say I’m not a fan of Figueres. Someone who seems to think Democracy is a hassle, because other people get to interfere with and impede your directives, is not someone I want to see in a position of even greater global authority than her previous job. But hey, its not like anyone is giving us a chance to vote on this decision.

No – his defence in thr sexual harassment case is looking more lame every day
As for the new “ClimateChief” at UN, the last person we should see there is another fraud.
Let’s see Bob Carver in this position…. Or professor Goldberg, or William Happer… Imagine an honest, competent individual advising the world on scientific matters; and promoting proper education, rather than Climate Cultism?
Or am I just hallucinating again?

By Congressional mandate concerning Palestinian recognition, US now has to defund UNFCCC as it previously did UNESCO. Lets hope she moves up and pulls the same stunt again. Then the US by statutory law must defund the entire UN shebang. Overdue.

Rep.Mike Rogers from Alabama, pointed to a wide range of reasons why the U.S. should dump the UN. ā€œAlthough the United States makes up almost a quarter of the U.N.ā€™s annual budget, the U.N. has attempted a number of actions that attack our rights as U.S. citizens,ā€ he explained. ā€œTo name a few, these initiatives include actions like the Law of the Sea Treaty, which would subject our country to internationally-based environmental mandates, costing American businesses more money, or the U.N.ā€™s work to re-establish an international regulation regime on global warming which would heavily target our fossil fuels.ā€
Indeed, especially in recent years, the UN has become increasingly brazen in attacking the rights of Americans, and even the U.S. Constitution that enshrines those unalienable rights. From attacks on free speech and gun rights to assaults on Americaā€™s federalist system of government and statesā€™ rights, the UN and its member regimes have become increasingly aggressive. Now, the UN is working on a series of major schemes that would undermine even the principles upon which the United States was founded, much of it under the guise of promoting pseudo-human rights and pseudo-environmentalism.

lol Ban Ki Moon was a puppet of the US administration, the UN lol, can’t do anything without the US, and the UNSC cant do anything either. Without the main NATO force the UN and NATO have no teeth whatsoever.
In short neither NATO nor the UN are anything without US funding and support.
Throw in on top of that the US gov and mil are also immune from international war crimes laws and even has an “invade the Hague” law that allows the US to use force to free any US military personnel or politician from the Hague by force.

Former Prime Minister Helen Clark’s government boosted her “green” credentials by secretly sacrificing the city of Palmerston North to New Zealand’s ETS. Furthermore she mentored Karen Price, wife of putative future Labour Prime Minister, David Cunliffe. Price, a lawyer, stands to make a fortune from her carbon trading business. Clark is a founding figure in the Turitea wind farm fraud which has been picked up and amplified by the current National Government which sold 49% of Mighty River Power’s wind farm assets to an unsuspecting public, MRP’s wind farms have been deliberately placed right on top of three of the country’s major earthquake fault lines.
Read about the stunning corruption which has taken place here and if you are a New Zealander or know New Zealanders spread this link far and wide. There’s a lot more to this story in this detailed account.

If she gets the job I hope she picks on the countries where the rampart injustices and conflicts are happening i.e. not the democratic West which by and large is just and conflict free. To say humanity has caused these problems is to tell an awful lot of decent people that they are the cause of other people’s problems when in fact it is internal corruption, tribalism and unfettered brutal power that is the cause of the problems. The underlying thought process that I detect in her is scary. And it is how coal is burnt that determines the level of in your face pollution.

Virulent anti Capitalism, anti West, and redistribute the wealth agendas are supported by Figueres and she doesn’t hide it. She’ll fit right in. The UN has finagled its’ way into the world political cat birds’ seat and every country is afraid to challenge it for fear of losing prominence with the very organization who’s goal is to take them over. The EU is the first giant step into blatant hedgeonomy and hopefully the people are realizing what the true agenda is.

Always enjoy current pricing and projections for solar panels from China.
Considering: (1) massive Chinese construction of coal fired units in this millennium (>300 GWe), and (2) massive ‘loss leader’ financing of Chinese industry by the Communist government, (likely) resulting in destructive competition, the inputs to production (electricity pricing based on fossil fuels and low capital costs) do not lend confidence that panel pricing is market based or sustainable.
Look at any honest summing up of EROI for solar and proponents are bound: (1) to be disappointed, or (2) ask for e re-vote.
I’m not being critical of the Chinese. Their fossil unit construction is on an unprecedented scale in human history (more than 500 large supercritical units brought online in 3000 days, 2004 to 2012). Unbelievable!
But let’s watch them ‘tap on the brakes’ over the next couple of decades (i.e., to curtail over-extended borrowing) and see how that goes.

My data from the World Coal Association shows China was the top coal producer in 2014 at 3,747 Mt (USA in second at 916 Mt, India at No. 3 – 668 Mt with a bullet). With listed reserves of 114,500 Mt (Wikipedia), this indicates a China reserve to production ratio of 31 years.
No wonder they promised Barry to start thinking about doing something by 2030.

With the U.K. out, the Komminisars of the EU in Brussels may feel embolden, empowered to make a distinction of European as a codified Nationality, Ethnicity and Race. She served her globalist masters very well. She should be rewarded… So do expect a UN even more tainted…
Take for instance this UN official, a perfect little soldier Peter Sutherland, ā€United Nations Special Representative for International Migration, tweeting Jul 4
“The U.K. has decided to play hardball. So will the #EU.”
He is angry at Brexit because his job is to enable migration… So he now even speaks for the EU… betraying his allegiance to undemocratic powers.
And he keeps telling the great European Union lie:
Peter Sutherland Jun 29
“Recent Eurobarometer poll shows 57% of respondents believe most positive achievement of #EU: ā€œfree movement of people, goods, and services”.
Except that earlier he let it slip the true motive of the EU: Peter Sutherland 18 Sep 2015
“The EU was never “all about trade”. From the beginning it was about integrating peoples. A noble objective being put at risk.”
They lie to enforce their agenda. Just like for climate.

There will a taking of private property at a scale never seen before through government mandates and enforcement. ā€“ Christiana Figueres, who heads up the United Nationsā€™s Framework Convention on Climate Change
I can think of a few others who intentionally brought about radical changes to a society or developed financial structures. It didnĀ“t always turn out well.
Who voted for Christina Figueres by the way? None!
And that is an irony ā€“ as the United Nations is also concerned about human rights, which states:
Article 21. (3) The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.
There is so much wrong with Christiana Figueres – I would never have voted for here. And there is so much wrong with what United Nations has turned into – I would never have voted for development of the United Nations into what it is today. United Nations is far out of line with itĀ“s charter.

A) Since when was Paris a “success”?
B) Being a three-time president of a Latin American country is not necessarily a positive thing. Even if the three terms were on the up and up, her father’s record should not be considered as hers. Looking at her actual record, I would say she is channeling the worst of the Latin dictators. Her abuse of people is just a bit less direct.
C) Just because China claims to have super strict standards for construction does not mean those standards are actually followed. It is all about appearance, about “face”. Solar pricing has gone down because technology has improved, but it is not necessarily due to Chinese government investments. Chinese solar panel prices are low in part because the toxic waste is often just dumped without being treated or contained. If real actions are being taken to clean up and lessen pollution, I applaud. But pics or it didn’t happen. Unaltered pics. No adjustments allowed.
Her praise of supposed Chinese actions does not surprise me, as so many international politicians praised China’s one child policy as great for the environment, and even bemoaned its end. Millions of forced abortions, sterilizations, beatings, and imprisonments are excused and praised because less people being born is good for the planet! Never mind the current suffering, never mind the danger of massive gender imbalances. Heck, if war results from said imbalances, all the better. Less people! Unofficially sentencing people to death by denying them access to reliable energy is okay, even though by the leftists’ own admission, said denial will not have any measurable effect on temperature. Less people!
I have an idea. How about the next UN president makes their first priority cleaning up the Peacekeeper forces that have been caught sexually abusing local populations, including children? How about tackling the rampant corruption? Forget stagnation, cronyism and corruption are what people see in the UN. There are a few entities (UNICEF, UNESCO) that are less tainted in the eyes of the public, but look under the veneer and they are much like the parent body.

July 8, 2016 12:38 am

Ms Christiana Figueres is on record as saying that the world must change its economic order. She has praised China for its system of governance and has denigrated bot democracy and capitalism.
I don’t know if she is a Marxist. But her public statements sure sound like it.
I think she would bring perilous times to the UN because she would increase popular American resistance to financing the UN and that would be unfortunate, not only for the UN, but for world peace.
Better just to draw lots worldwide with the only qualifications that the person be above the age of majority and able to read his/her own language.

One of Figueres’ proud boasts is that she was trained by Al Gore to deliver “An Inconvenient Truth”.
Her other achievements have been in the world of carbon trading, http://www.ideacarbon.com/about-us/advisory-board/Ms-Figueres.htm.
“Ms Figueres joined as Vice Chairman of the Carbon Ratings Agency in February 2009 and left in July 2010 as the new Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC and as such had to relinquish her role with the CRA. She sat on all CRA rating committee meetings during her tenure and initiated CRAā€™s analysis work for programmatic CDM.”
“The Carbon Rating Agency (CRA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the IDEAglobal Group. It is the worldā€™s only ratings agency focused on carbon and energy efficiency asset ratings. Its mission is to enable the creation of carbon as an asset class.”
She was a colleague of Lord Stern:

Her brother Jose, also a former Costa Rican President, from 1994-98, has some history in the AGW industry as well, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Mar%C3%ADa_Figueres. In 1990, Figueres co-founded EnergĆa Global Inc. a renewable energy company with operations in Costa Rica, Gua-temala, and Chile. The business was later sold and today it continues to operate as a subsidiary of ENEL, Italyā€™s largest power company.
He has also been a Director of the World Resources Institute (WRI), the Stockholm Environment Institute and WWF. Since 2010 he has been President of Branson’s Carbon War Room. From 2009 until 2011, when its mandate was completed, Figueres served on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moonā€™s Advisory Group on Climate Change and Energy.

That woman deserves a billion Oscars for her performances on the World stage, the way she can cry & shed tears to order is magnificent, unequalled in the World, imho! Just mention the Earth & she sheds oodles of them, perfectly! If Hollywood doesn’t give at least a hundred, thousand, million, (as an engineer I love making up numbers, just like the UNIPCC – sarc off), I will never ever go there again, & will refuse any invite the “Academy” may offer!!!!!!

“the way she can cry & shed tears to order is magnificent”
As when she visited Australia in 2015, drumming up support for the Paris conference:
http://www.smh.com.au/good-weekend/ray-of-hope-christiana-figueres-20150601-ghe88m.html
Ray of hope: Christiana Figueres – Date September 5, 2015
“A thousand chattering girls from prestigious St Catherine’s in Sydney’s eastern suburbs settle themselves on the floor of the school’s assembly hall, the din not unlike that inside a giant aviary. Silence falls as a compact figure in a pink jacket, tightly fitting black trousers and heels steps smartly to the microphone.
It is the morning’s “special guest”, the head of the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Christiana Figueres ā€“ a woman bizarrely characterised in May by Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s chief business adviser, Maurice Newman, as the spearhead of a UN conspiracy to bring the world under the iron control of shadowy international bureaucrats.
The girls regard their visitor politely, perhaps expecting a science lecture or a worthy presentation on the machinery of international climate negotiations. Instead, something extraordinary happens. Only a few words into her introduction, Figueres chokes up. “It always pains me … [a pause] … to see … [a suppressed sob] … the evidence of what we’ve done.”

lets cut to the chase and be bluntly honest – Kim Kardashian would be just as effective and qualified as this unelected wannabe, and a lot more fun to watch.
This is what so-called “world government” has come to – might as well let the Kardashian’s run it, because it really doesn’t matter anymore.
I just wish I had more food and ammo stockpiled.

When the zombie apocalypse comes, everyone is going to want to be friends with the doomsday preppers and the rubes who cling to their guns and religion.
Leftists better pray that the rubes cling to their religion enough to be willing to extend a helping hand. (See what I did there?)

The commies have realized the “country by country” method doesn’t work. You end up building walls to keep people in the commie section and the contrast between commie and non-commie is clear to all. So now they are using the “water in the bathtub” method where communism gradually rises everywhere via world organizations. There is no escape except by spaceship. No walls necessary.

Gotta love it…
China is “Doing It Right”…riiiiiight
Lets see….
“Top Emitter of GHG” (right)
…..Pour the Coals to it China and sell that surplus Dirty Coal Power to the Clean Eco-fascist Feel-goods in Europe
“Its support for photovoltaic technology helped reduce solar-panel costs by 80 percent since 2008” (right)
…..The average Chinese national earns $4755 USD per year, about 91.44 per week or 2.29 per hour.
…..No wonder they can produce panels at a cost savings of 80%, they pay their workers next to nothing.
“China is also able to implement policies because its political system avoids some of the legislative hurdles seen in countries including the U.S., Figueres said.” (right) Remember Tien’amen Square? It is plain scary just what that type of governance brings. The “Legislative Hurdles” are there to ensure a government “Of the people, by the people and for the people” doesn’t paris(h) from the earth and become just another government dictatorship.

A dysfunctional, idiosyncratic and ideologically-bent UN now wants to appoint someone who is dysfunctional, idiosyncratic and ideologically-bent as its leader? Go figure.

Don’t know if Ms. Figueres is located in Switzerland or New York (UN HQ) but perhaps the thought of returning to Costa Rica, a third world country, scares her, especially when having to face the poor who are victimized by the green lobby goals.

“Figueres works out of a spacious office in Bonn, in a building that used to belong to the German parliament. On the wall by her desk thereā€™s a framed motto that reads, ā€œImpossible is not a fact, it is an attitude.ā€ On another wall thereā€™s a poster showing the Statue of Liberty waist-high in water, and on a third a black-and-white photograph of Figueresā€™s father, JosĆ©, who led the Costa Rican revolution of 1948.”

Verse 25 of the Impeachment song: Climate change and the end of Capitalism.
Christiana Figueres, the executive secretary of the United Nationā€™s Framework Convention on Climate Change, recently made a devastating admissionā€¦ the goal of environmental activism is not to save the world from terrifying environmental calamity, but to end capitalism.
ā€œThis is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,ā€ she said.
Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: ā€œThis is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.ā€
This leads to verse 25 of the Obama Impeachment song( as if sung by President Obama to the tune of “Please release me, let me go)
Climate change our biggest threat,
If worse, I will break out a sweat.
Global Governance, you bet!
My war on King Coal not over yet.
The whole Obama Impeachment song: https://lenbilen.com/2015/02/25/the-complete-obama-impeachment-song/
Meanwhile, China keeps increasing its use of coal

Alarms must ring loudly. The UN lost its way a long time ago. We have more wars, drought, desert, poverty, mass migration, less potable water, food, shelter clean air and global unity/leadership.
UNFCCC COP system after 22 years and clearly the past 5 years highlights the present UN ā€œdata exchange protocolā€ has done zero to reverse CO2e build-up. The best illustration I* can offer is the UNFCCC COP21 decision ā€œ193 Nations Members of Parliament shall return to their homeland and think again of ways to stop the Earthā€™s mean temperature rising 2 degreesā€.
If UN and for that matter Earth was run as a perpetual supply corporation such incompetent thought would never have reached the CEO desk let alone the BOD table.
Earth and UN are at a critical cross road unless there is a highly well trained HEAD of UN and a BOD from the corporate sector the repair the 50% damage to the once yielding Assets the Grandkids do not have a chance. Few stop to account Earth is our only business home and the baseline Bank of Assets soil-water-vegetation-atmosphere-bees and the UNā€™s own data reflects these like support assets loss more than 50%.
The UN Needs a President/Chair with hands on running a Nation and indeed a UN division to comprehend the tremendous waste the current data exchange UN is The UNFCCC COP 21 case and point.
Before the hand-over to a new Chief of UN Actual Heads of Nations need to be locked up and restructure UN charter, Earth is the Number 1 business with Bank of Assets not rolled over restored. Among Leaders of Nations present and in sight past Leaders is one the restore the assets of the Receiver Mother Nature is sending clear messages restore or stand aside and
a Helen Clark is clearly qualified!
Bottom line We do not need more UNFCCC COP 21 decisions ā€œbuild a switch to stop temperature rising and prayā€.
