Former Vice President Al Gore is travelling to the Philippines, to help train local climate activists.
“Al Gore will give the presentation that has introduced millions of people to the reality of the climate crisis and sparked a global movement,” his organization, Climate Reality Project, said in a media advisory.
The organization added that “(t)his year, Gore’s presentation will highlight the Philippines, a country that is already acutely impacted by the dangerous affects of climate change.”
Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez will speak during the training on how his city continues to bounce back from the effects of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan), which destroyed 50,000 homes and claimed at least 6,000 lives in November 2013.
The event will also feature “The Road to Decarbonization,” a presentation by Sen. Loren Legarda, chair of the Senate Committees on climate change, environment and natural resources.
Legarda helped Gore and his group organize the Manila leg of the climate training, which was firmed up in December through a phone call between Manila and Paris, where the latter was taking part in the global climate summit.

In the desperately poor Philippines, young people frequently rent their bodies to wealthy foreigners, to support their families. I suggest the road to economic prosperity, and a better future for young Filipinos, probably does not involve receiving climate training from Al Gore.

My first thought was a La Niña cooling event. The next was that strawberries and other fruits and veggies that need cold weather ought to get a boost….
Although with Gore’s track record, he’ll bring hail and get some crops ruined.
Will Al Gore and his entourage travel by plane or by sail boat to the Philippines? How much will he charge to give them “climate training.” How much does it cost to tell poor people that they should not buy or use their SUV’s?
Gee, Al is such a nice guy- he’s always thinking of others. I hope the phillipinos appreciate what he is doing for them. Maybe they could invite him to stay for a while. A long while.
Al won’t be too worried about not being able to influence some of the Worlds poorest people on his voodoo scam on AGW, but it will add £100K to his bank balance, and that’s far more important.
There is no extent to which money grubbers will go in order to secure a few more followers, even if the culture is poor and uneducated. The Phillipines is very third world in both economy and culture as travellers and friends who from the Phillipines have told me.

The Philippines is not a ‘desperately poor’ country. It has had consistent economic growth for the last 6 years and this year growth is forecast to fall to just 6%, making it 2nd only to Vietnam in SEA. The problem the resource rich country has is inequality with around 16 (mostly Chinese) families owning everything. Forbes rich list (published in the last week) showed that 8/10 of the richest people in the Philippines are Chinese.
Regarding Gore, narcissistic Pinoys crave the attention of rich and famous foreigners, so he’ll be flattered to feature in the photographs of the world centre of selfies.

For those that might be curious, I said something that could be taken as a serious desire for Al to come to actual physical harm. I didn’t mean it that way, of course. I think that’s why it was “unacceptable”.

During all the Ice Ages, these very same islands were connected to each other and during all the Interglacials, these various islands were partially submerged. At no time has this country fried to death. It is either a warm planet jungle environment or it is a cold planet jungle environment. Why do they care about all this?
Well, if all the ice in Antarctica and Greenland were to melt, the oceans would rise so more but the likelihood of this happening is around zero.
The Philippine activists care because they can claim victimhood from “more and stronger typhoons due to climate change!” And to push for Climate Justice. Anything to milk attention and fill the money trough.

In 1989 Al Gore said in a New York Times interview that his interest in environmentalism began when he was a teenager. In that same interview it was noted “has won the sobriquet Mr. Global Warming…”
Al Gore has compared oil and coal companies ‘tactics’ to tobacco companies.
Al Gore’s family got rich from stocks in Occidental Petroleum. After his late fathers death he managed the family’s Occidental stocks for a time.
In 1996 the New York Times published an article quoting Al Gore on the issue of tobacco.

Al Gore is full of bull’s shit. If he made president we would be living in tents and he would be living in his villa. And mansion. All by himself and his ‘large extended family’ made up of his dog, himself and maybe his masseuse.
Here is the interview where he said that. Note that he did not say exaggeration of the facts, he said that in the US, he focused his efforts on highlighting the severity of the problem (and the facts documenting that), and not much on mitigation/adaptation strategies. That’s because the awareness of the problem in the US is less than elsewhere.

The Philippinos have little money with which to activate against ‘Big Oil’ and other carbon contributors. I don’t see the point of All-Gore doing this, other than to attempt escaping the cold weather that dogs him wherever he goes.

What could possibly be the purpose of indoctrinating the Philippine people with AGW propaganda? Cut back on their industrial output? Stop cooking their food? Find new lively hoods that don’t conflict with the AGW meme? No more generators for people that don’t have grid power? Shut down their business districts and large city environments? Do they contribute that much CO2 that they are a perceived threat to the climate? Or is it that no one else will have him and they haven’t figured out his scam yet?

The Philippines is a lovely country but unfortunately the over 90 million citizens all seem to be vying for the same peso. While the turnout for selfies with the Goreacle could be substantial I predict that his following will rapidly dwindle down to those few who will realize personal gain from it.
I keep wondering how did Al Gore get to be considered an authority in the field? It is an undisputable drawback of democracy that people like Al Gore can fool around freely wihout anyone being able to interfere. We shudder to think what happens if HIllary is elected president – you can be sure Al is in for a very,very high position as Commisoner of Climate or something like that. the women have water access on some of the island nice clean underground supply but no idea of how to heat it without the fuel- they cant afford electricity or bottled gas,let alone the cookers or heaters.
I showed them just how hot water can get in a 20litre black plastic drum and they were overjoyed. no idea they needed to sterilise a needle before lancing an abcess, and no idea of how to use local options to try n keep wounds clean ie salt and lemon juice.

I guess he needs to find someplace who hasn’t seen through his gargantuan hypocrisy. I’m guessing here, but he’s going to start by scaring Philipino peasants with “more powerful Typhoons”, and instilling the idea that it’s the fault of the West, thereby creating a new trough for yet another third-world elite.
Coal 29%, Oil 23%, Nat gas 14% and adding capacity via diesel generators accoring to eia in March of 2015. Renewables and hydro 30%, mostly hydro and geothermal. I’d say global warming will be a hard sell if the natives realize it means less electricity in the future, but the promise of free money to “fix” this might be a big seller. There are already rolling blackouts and lack of capacity in much of the Philippines. Gore is going to have a hard time selling the “get rid of 66% of your already lacking electrical generation”.
I’m sure Gore can spiff up the presentation so none of the attendees realize they are campaigning for living in the cold and dark. I have faith in his dedication to the task. After all, it’s how he makes money and what could be more motivating?
