Newly elected Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, speaking at Davos, has strongly criticised Leonardo DiCaprio’s recent pontification about alleged oil industry greed.

CANADIAN Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Leonardo DiCaprio to tone down his “inflammatory rhetoric” on climate change, saying it was not helping those who have lost their oil-industry jobs.
The movie star had told the World Economic Forum in the Swiss mountain town of Davos on Wednesday that corporate greed was causing climate change.
At a dinner later in the day, Trudeau, elected in October as the head of a Liberal government, took the 41-year-old actor to task.
“I pointed out that both Alberta and Canada have new governments over the past year that are committed to action on climate change … and that there are families suffering, out of work, who need to be supported, and inflammatory rhetoric doesn’t necessarily help those families or help Canada,” Trudeau said, recounting his remarks to reporters on Friday.
“He actually said if we took concrete action on climate change he would be the first to come up and celebrate with us.”
Trudeau was elected on what appeared to be a green policy platform, but the reality is Canada is deeply dependent on oil and mineral extraction industries. Low oil prices are already causing significant economic problems. Any further pressure on the Canadian oil industry could exacerbate long term damage to the Canadian economy.
If Trudeau’s green sympathies receive some of the blame for Canada’s worsening economic stagnation, voter anger might translate into a major swing against the Trudeau government, at the next Federal Election.
According to Bloomberg, Trudeau is “struggling” to sell a vision of a post oil Canada at Davos.

Speaking of Bloomberg… Perhaps we might kick around a certain conspiracy-theory “ideation”, just for yuks, where Bernie, Donald, and Bloomberg (as a third party candidate) run for the presidency in 2016. And, then say, Bloomberg siphons off just enough electoral college votes so as to deprive both Bernie and Trump of an electoral college majority (270 votes).
At the same time, in our fantasy 2016 presidential election, let’s further imagine that Bloomberg’s share of the electoral vote, though tiny, is found to be just enough to establish him as one of the three top vote-getters, and, therefore, eligible to stand for further election when the presidential election is passed on to the House of Representatives for decision.
In the House, a hot-bed of “establishment” types, whether Republican or Democrat, the decision confronting our solons will then be whether they want, as President, a rootin’-tootin’ Bolshevik (Bernie–not good for “business”), a “You’re Fired!” Trump (an existential threat to entrenched politicos, in on the deal, of either party, I think we can safely say), or a “Hammer of the Soda-jerks” Bloomberg (a “right stuff” type of guy (for those incumbents with a stake in the game, that is) who even wants to disarm us proto-serfs–bless his heart!). Voila!–President Bloomberg. Pretty slick, huh?
Again, all Bloomberg has to do is deprive both of his rivals of 270 electoral votes and get just enough electoral votes, himself, to qualify as one of the three Presidential candidates to stand for election in the House. The “good ol’ boys” inside the beltway, Democrat and Republican, alike, will then take care of the “matter”.
At least, that’s how I think it all might work. But maybe not. Anyone got a different idea?

the President of the United States is supposed to represent The People. He or she is not supposed to take sides with Republicans or Democrats. Because if the President does this, the People will vote to place the other party in Congress to represent them, and nothing will get done while the President is in office.
This is why the United States has been deadlocked politically for the past 7 years. The President started blaming the Republican’s for his problems. The People saw that they were not being fairly represented and voted the Republicans into office in the Congress to restore balance.
If Hillary wins, the situation will remain deadlocked. She will follow the Obama’s example and blame every problem on the Republicans. The People will respond by voting the Republicans into office in Congress, to counter-balance the Presidency and the country will remain deadlocked.
The Republicans are waking up to the fact that so far Trump has been the Teflon candidate. Shzt doesn’t stick to him. No matter how outrageous he sounds, he is able to counter his critics and in the process generate tons of free press. Most every day he is in the top of the news, while the other candidates are spending millions but not being heard.
So it is only natural the folks like Dole are starting to see how this might lead to a President that can break the deadlock in Washington. Someone that isn’t a strong Democrat or Republican, that has no axe to grind with either party. Someone that is able to communicate his ideas clearly and someone that will be able to make a deal with both the Republicans and Democrats, and thereby break the deadlock.

The idea that Bloomberg will siphon any votes from Trump is ludicrous. Bloomberg may have been elected as a “Republican” mayor, but he’s so far left in that spectrum that he can’t even be considered a RINO. In the scenario you describe, Bloomberg will split the Democratic vote as Blue Dog Democrats who can’t quite vote for Trump will run screaming from Bernie and right to Mike. And he’ll never get the role of kingmaker because he’ll never get any electoral votes because it’s a winner-take-all system. He’ll just be a spoiler. He might in fact ensure a Trump landslide.
My opinion, deadlocked politically is good. Be thankful that you don’t get all the government you pay for.

Thanks for your response, D. J. Not sure, though, that your “cut” on the electoral college is totally accurate. While I’m no legal scholar in the matter , for sure, I understand that Maine and Nebraska are not “winner-take-all” states. And, then, there’s the issue of rogue-votes by “faithless electors”. Bloomberg has billions to play with, and he doesn’t need any more electoral votes than the handful needed to deprive his rivals of a 270-vote majority, in order to throw the election to the House, with his (Bloomberg’s) hat in the ring.
However, my above, conspiracy-theory “ideation” is only based on a few (possibly flawed) Wiki entries and my own rank-amateur reading of the same, so maybe it is a “ludicrous” speculation, after all, as you would have it. DeCaprio is an actor and he knows how to read from a script. He memorises lines. He puts on a good acting performance to satisfy the patrons of his art. There is every reason to expect that what he says and does are incongruent. That is how actors are and what they do.
Now, who is writing his script and directing his actions? That is a better question and better story.
Trudeau is also an actor and script-repeater. The same questions apply. The difference is, Trudeau has political and economic power (at least some, that the banks don’t already monopolise) and DeCaprio does not. If you look into it, you may find that a certain Suzuki from BC has more influence over what Trudeau says than his own party. That definitely applies to the CBC which has become a parody of green alarmist narratives. At some point the Green Party will tell the CBC to back off and stop making their Cause look silly.
Not the Lib’s however, they for whom the word sycophant was invented. They will say ‘what is needed to be said’. And they did, and they won power mostly by asking the public not to return the Conservatives. They didn’t promise much on the green agenda, they just let on that they probably would. No one can crush the oil and gas industry in Canada. It would freeze to death walking along the Trans-Canada Highway, or stuck by the (only) bridge between Manitoba and Ontario which is broken at the moment.
Everybody: stop crowing about hypocrisy. Everyone is a bit of a hypocrite and it is not helping. Target what matters. If Trudeau realises that oil and gas are things the current generation cannot live without, good for him. That is better than the Green Party’s position that we should shut the whole thing down and leave the Alberta oil sands leaking into the rivers as they have done for millennia.
If CeCaprio wants to help the planet, he should get humanity to stop the governments spending $1.5 trillion on climate stupidity and target the Zika Virus (which turns out to be highly transmissible by sexual contact) and Dengue Fever and so on. Real threats, not imaginary ones.

Blackadore Caye is the island DiCaprio purchased. It appears to be a typical sand caye behind a barrier reef. Basically these are made of coral sand and rubble held together by vegetation and marine growth. There typically is no “bedrock” on this sort of island. Maximum height of the land is typically something like 10 feet, with many areas much less. Except for palm trees these sorts of islands are all but invisible from the water until you are on top of them.
So it would appear that DiCaprio doesn’t really believe the sea level rise will be an issue. Because it would not take much of a rise to place this sort of island underwater.
Mr. Trudeau is so conflicted on energy matters, it will eventually eat him alive and cause his government to lose power.

I’m just going to say this about the global scary stuff.
I talked with somebody last week whose friend ( working as hairdresser ) went into a trance like state and started yelling out about the name of a town and people are dying then came to and they said;

there are loads of these things that happen. they cannot be ignored as just a bit weird.

However, by then, watermelons will be older and care more about other things. So it’s all good. Win win.

I very much doubt that commitBob. During the election, he promised Carbon Taxes and “Alternative” energy. At the time, that was (and still is) completely in line with the Alberta NDP agenda. The fact that we are now deep in recession has caused both of them to cool their rhetoric but make no mistake, if the economy improves during their tenure you will see lots of “green subsidies”. Just take a look at who has been behind them at their news conferences. In Alberta, for example, you will see people from the wind energy sector speaking on behalf of our Climate Change Minister. These people all blow about in the winds of change. Trudeau is multi-lingual. He can speak out of both sides of his mouth in at least two languages.
Don’t forget, Kathleen Wynne is a wind and solar energy champion. She and her predecessor have squandered billions on wind and cancelled energy contracts. Power costs in Ontario have gone up 50%. How do you think that affects manufacturing in Ontario?

I think he will follow in his father’s footsteps while saying whatever is politically expedient. Just look at the election results. He has nothing to lose with the west. On the other hand, getting oil to the Maritimes supports his political base there. His party wants carbon taxes and alternative energy.

They already hit retired folks like me by cutting the Tax Free Savings Account allowance in half meaning that as you take money out of your RRSP or RIF you have no tax free place to put it so they are taking money right out of retired people’s pockets and putting into their “Green Bond Fund”. This is Trudeau Version 2 and it won’t be any different than his father. His votes are in Eastern Canada and the Left Coast … primarily the lower mainland. He will pander to those votes. The west won’t matter so he can use us for cannon fodder.

Can anyone name a self-powered alternative energy manufacturer? One that uses only their own alternative energy solutions for all aspects of their enterprise? That, I think, is the minimum qualifier for validating alternative energy as a justification for the rest of us to abandon reliable alternative energy – that being coal, hydro, oil, and gas.
I call on US oil companies to go further than DiCaprio asked. I call on them to stop delivering fuel to gas stations, stop delivering fuel to airports or sea ports, stop delivering to heating oil distributors. In short, stop delivering oil products to anyone. And when the inevitable furore erupts, I call on them to say ‘We’ll recommence deliveries when DiCaprio comes crawling on his hands and knees and begs us to do so.
Any day now the Reform Party will make it,s reappearance in the West. Alberta and Saskatchewan are already demanding there equalization payments 10 billion be returned. The Greens will not allow the new Pipe Line through Quebec. Separation anxiety back on the table this time from the West.

Bernie Roseke: I agree Justin Trudeau is not pro oil. But he is pro getting re-elected again. The vote change started in the Maritimes last election. He wants to keep that constituency happy. Unemployment in the Maritimes is very high and would be HIGHER except for all the Maritimers working in Saskatchewan and Alberta. With the western oil patch losing thousands of jobs and Maritimers heading home, a pipeline to the refineries in the east will boost employment and assist in is re-election next time around. He’ll be able to say how he helped employment in the east at the same time as getting western oil to market.
It’s a good move politically. He has also promised a “Green Bond” fund, Carbon Taxes, and subsidies for wind, solar, and other “alternative” energies and removal of all “subsidies” for fossil fuels. (see their platform).
That is clearly not pro-oil but it will all be done stealthily. A pick pocket doesn’t want you to know your pocket is being picked so diversion is a necessary part of the scam. The Middle Class and people who saved for their retirement are having their pockets picked while JT says he is taxing the rich. Sure.
