Remember back when Australian voters thought they were electing a government which was committed to abolishing carbon taxes? The following are the words of Australia’s Environment Minister Greg Hunt, who under former Prime Minister Tony Abbott vigorously opposed carbon pricing;
Environment Minister Greg Hunt says he will likely allow the purchase of international carbon credits despite backbench anger over the weekend’s Paris climate agreement.
“We have to set in place a mechanism to allow us [reach new targets], in particular to look at the question of international units and I expect we probably will take on board international units and that will give us the flexibility as we head into 2020 to re-pledge if needed,” Mr Hunt said.
The Australian Industry Group, which has been calling for Australia to allow the trade in permits, said the change was “critical”.
“Critically, the agreement affirms Australia’s right to purchase and include genuine emissions reductions in other countries towards Australia’s targets, a vital way of containing the cost of meeting our goals,” AiGroup chief executive Innes Willox said
Speculation that Australia would allow the use of international emissions reduction credits to meet local targets has been growing over the past year, and heightened when Foreign Minister Julie Bishop signed Australia up to a “Paris Ministerial Declaration on Carbon Markets” last week, which provided clearer rules around the trading of international carbon credits after 2020 when a Paris agreement would come into effect.

So which is it Greg – were you opposed to carbon pricing, until your new boss Malcolm Turnbull told you to embrace carbon pricing? Or did your party lie to the Australian people about being opposed to carbon pricing, back when you were campaigning for our votes? Or is there an innocent explanation for this apparent backflip which I have overlooked?
Given the horrific Danish experience, in which Danes lost 2% of their GDP to carbon fraud, in my opinion, encouraging the purchase of international carbon credits is tantamount to an invitation to criminals to loot the Australian economy.
I have never heard of a politician telling a lie to get in office, unheard of..lol..at least you guys can change leaders pretty quickly. We have to wait 4 years each time.

They, like indebted governments, need new sources of revenue to keep the bubble party going. Carbon taxes and carbon trading schemes offer a pathway to extracting wealth from the economic system, without actually creating any new widgets or productivity.
In the US, its not just a socialist Democrat drive for carbon trading, but establishment Republicans like Jeb Bush also are supporting the Climate Change scam to benefit their banking-investment fund backers.
The U.S. is virtually a 1 Party system. Demoplicans and Republicrats are owned by “they who shall not be named” aka those who own the Investment Banks and all the Corptoplis’s that Sachs et. al. control voting majorities in, which is essentially all the Holding Corps that own all the Corporations.
The “free market” has been free of real competition for a few generations now. It is owned by the 1% or the 1% or the 1% and they are the Progressive brain trust and church elders of the Church of Progressive Demoplican Liberalism. Their clergy are the politicians and bureaucrats that implement their policies. The Church elders set economic policies that transfers middle class discretionary spending into their Trust Funds and then direct the clergy to borrow money from the Cathedral of the Federal Reserve in order to run the country.
“They who shall not be named” have expanded their Net Worth by indenturing the middle class to a debt payment of 18 trillion dollars with an estimated 72 trillion in unfunded liabilities, coming due in the next 20 years. Ergo they have decreed their newest Tenet the Law of Man Made Global Warming to transfer additional middle class funding in the form Government mandated fossil fuel indulgences to help cover the unavoidable liabilities all the while diverting additional funds to increase the Net Worth of their unspoken Trusts. These Carbon Indulgence Transfers (CIT’s) will finally “cast out” these middle class demons and render the glorious Church of Demoplican Liberalism the supreme Rulers of the Planet and all it’s peasant masses.

We have a lot of rich people in this country but there are very few families that control almost all the net worth in America. I am talking the wealth that controls the holding companies that control the corporations and buy and control the puppets you know as politicians. At the congressional level where the reach is small you will find a few honest people. As they rise in power they become corrupted. Ask yourself why we don’t do runoff national elections in a 3 way race if one candidate doesn’t win more than 50% of the vote?

This fraud is called REDD. It is a worldwide land grab from indigenous peoples financed by carbon credits to pay-off corrupt local officials to look the other way. The argument is that the indigenous people’s would simply cut down the forest for their slash and burn agriculture, so the forest needs to be protected to preserve the “carbon”. But in the end the forest will be cut down – once the maximum timber yield is reached. In the meanwhile the carbon payments will be used as a form of rent to make the whole project risk free, except to the local people massively displaced. The true climate refugees, thrown off their land by climate carpetbaggers.

Interesting comment and makes me pause to consider an article I read in our local paper this morning (I’m in Virginia). Enviva is a company that is producing wood pellets from forests in North Carolina and supplying them for biofuels, mostly in the UK. I read a paper this morning that said that Enviva was going to provide something like $5 million in matching funds to buy and preserve forests in the southeast US (North Carolina, Virginia, etc.). I knew there had to be some other reason for it, but couldn’t figure it out. It appears that they are positioning themselves to not only benefit from the production of biomass, but to sell carbon credits with the protected forests (and if it also managed to limit any potential competition to Enviva by tying up forest resources, so much the better).

As I said in another thread, we need to find ways to overcome the problem of a policy to establish rules and bureaucracies intended to provide immortality to the objectives of AGW promoters.

I wish I could supply an answer to your most pertinent question. But I have come to think the only event that will turn this AGW scam around is a complete and total national disaster. But perhaps I’m being optimistic — if all it took to change government policy were a national disaster, Robert Mugabe and Kim dynasty would have been tossed out years ago. Cap and trade seems to me a foolish scheme to accomplish what the pro global warming agitators want. It seems too open to manipulation, huge government bureaucracies and also stifles new businesses etc with no existing carbon credits. A straight revenue neutral carbon tax starting small and ramping up slowly over time seems a fairer solution. By revenue neutral I mean truly neutral and not like the province of Alberta did where they plan to spend the money (equal to 25% of the anticipated income tax take) on socialist priorities like public job creation and other pollution abatement…
I continue to wonder which countries and how much each will have to pay as part of the 100Billion that supposedly goes to the under developed countries. It will also be very difficult to prevent half of that figure
going into UN overhead and the other half going to graft…

I have been a rusted-on Liberal Party voter my entire life, with family members holding various administrative positions within the party over many decades.
Outside of family ties, my support for the Liberal party has always been based on its conservative policies and views.
With the knifing of Tony Abbott, a true statesman and representative of those trusted conservative Liberal party values, by Malcolm Turnbull, a man whose ideals and views are best described as of the extreme left, the Liberal Party has now 100% lost my vote.
It is by no means an exaggeration to comment that the Australian Labor Party (the Left-Wing opposition) is in my mind now a more conservative opposition to the Turnbull led Libs!

The Danish experience of losing 2% of their GDP to carbon fraud, could be an example of getting off lightly, once any Carbon Dioxide Trading or International Carbon Dioxide Credit Scheme really gets rolling. The Merchant Bankers will be aiming at profits much greater than 2%. The COP21 agreement, whilst meaningless in some ways, is an open invitation to criminals to loot the World economy and Malcolm Turnbull will be in the lead wrecking the Australian economy to get his greedy merchant-banking hands on as much of the loot as he can.
I think it time to make having cojones a good thing. This us what makes Mark Steyn a hero. He got sued so he countersued for 20+ million to ensure that M.Mann did not have an avenue to back out without incurring great expense. To back out, he would have to lose the countersuit. To have a chance to get rid of the countersuit he is now forced to surrender his data for discovery and try to win the original suit. No matter what M. Mann decides, he’s toast. I believe there is a 100% certainty that Mark is going to win over this gutless bully. He’s won before even with activist biased judges. When Mark wins this case and ruins M. Mann, professionally and financially, companies may see an alternative strategy to settlements forever. I would recommend Exxon and other deep pocket companies, get full support from their shareholders to go for it big time. Strip these destructive, spoiled middle-upperclass, pampered, ballless, unfulfilled, wastrels to their underwear. Shut down pipelines and electrical generating stations until they are begged with promises of good behavior to turn on the lights and heat.
Malcolm Turnbull originally lost his leadership of the Liberal Party to Tony Abbott just before the Copenhagen conference when he backed Kevin Rudd’s emission trading scheme (scam). Kevin Rudd lost support after he failed to call an election when Abbott opposed it. After all the hyperbole that Rudd had spewed (think Obama on rhetoric steroids) it was clear by his lack of balls to allow a vote on it that Rudd didn’t have any conviction behind his words.
I detect quite a bit of mumbling dissent going on in the world despite the euphoria coming out of the masses of the Paris Climate luv in. Notwithstanding Hollande’s emotional reaction to the terrorist massacres in the streets of Paris and his increased approval, France looks like swinging decisively to the right to either centre right Nicolas Sarkozy or even further to Marine le Pen’s National Front.
Climate change does not even feature in the top issues that Sarkozy believes worry the French and Le Pen is known to be a sceptical on global warming alarmism.
Croatia is the latest country recently swinging right following Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Switzerland, Argentina and Venezuela. Sure immigration, the economy and other local issues are factors but CAGW, much more favoured by the Left, has not been able to stop this world wide swing.
For whatever reason, Canada seems to be the exception. But I suspect there has been another outbreak of “Trudeaumania” in the glamour starved Canadians.
That does not mean of course that Conservative governments only represent CAGW sceptics but one has to wonder after Paris, how much will be token rather than dramatic economy risking action.
Regardless, I can never ever vote for the Liberal Party under Turnbull. To coin a phrase I did not leave the party – the party left me. Yes, this leaves me with the dilemma of who to vote for (Oh to be in the USA rooting for Senator Ted Cruz). At least in this internet world of free speech, if I can’t vote for any-one, I can still voice my opinion.
The LDP. For the Senate at least. Currently with only David Leyonhjelm in Parliament to represent them.
Work you way over here. Make your way to Maryland . They will let you vote, All you have to do is get your driver license first, they give those away like section 8 housing vouchers, and then step to a kiosk set up at the Motor Vehicle Administration to register to vote with your new license to steal. Only one problem, no matter who you pull the level for, the vote will Tally for the Democrat so you will only think you are voting for Ted Cruz.
Cap and trade CO2 is theoretically cute/practical nightmare stuff but what would you expect from people who project an experiment with a bell jar in the lab to a global climate regime. Thought bubble locally and lots of exploding heads intergalactically.

The new Turnbull government has gone green, and the biggest mistake Abbott ever made was making this idiot – Greg Hunt – the Minister for the Environment and Climate Change.
This is a guy who, after they won the Federal general election, would not answer a simple question if he believed carbon dioxide was pollution. All he simply needed to say was that if it were pollution, it would have been banned from soft drinks, beer and bubbly champagne. But he didn’t.
