Environmental activists have suggested the brutal terror attack in Paris has improved the chances of getting a climate deal at the COP 21 meeting.
… Craig Bennett, chief executive of Friends of the Earth in the UK, hoped that countries would be more willing to come to a deal, but that he feared this pressure might lead to a weaker accord.
“They will want to give Hollande a deal at the end of the day. But the deal may not be as good as it might have been. Countries turning up in Paris will be reluctant for Paris to be seen as a failure, but we have a deal on the table that is not enough – we would have liked to see a stronger deal, and maybe we are less likely to get that now.”
Nick Mabey, chief executive at the environmental lobby group E3G, said the terrorist attacks would “not have a huge impact on the outcome, but they will have a huge impact on the tone”.
Previous rounds of negotiations from the Copenhagen conference in 2009 – when the talks dissolved into chaos and public recrimination – have been marked by emotional outpourings, threats and public displays unusual in other forms of diplomacy. This year, such shows would be less welcome, said Nick Mabey, chief executive at the environmental lobby group E3G. “The tone will be more serious, and less festive. Activists will have to find more creative ways to show the world the impact of climate change. There will be less grandstanding, and more focus.”
He said the attacks on France would give Hollande more “moral authority”, and that delegates would feel a greater duty to show “the ability of people to cooperate and bring peace and work together. That is the core message, and it’s really important that this message gets through.” …

Completely agree, and Friends of the Earth are top of the pile when it comes to shysters.
“The tone will be more serious, and less festive.” Festive? Since when is saving the planet a festive affair? How could it be any more serious than it would have been, when all those trumped-up careers and $billions are at stake?
Of all people, they are the ones claiming that AGW is the MOST serious threat to the future of the earth; so yeah, why haven’t they been comporting themselves more seriously in the past? Methinks a few of them, deep down, know better, but the gravy is too good to forego.
Diversion of capital resources to renewables may deprive the world’s collective GNP of close to a trillion dollars annually by 2030. Given the COP-21 participants’ tone deafness to how that plays out among the world’s poor, we can hope they “party hardy” and that the press is on hand to capture the moment.
Warmists have already set up the bizarre claim that world terrorism and the unprecedented stream of migrants to Europe are being caused by climate change, drought, etc. They do have certain elements in common: climatists and terrorists both exploit a pseudo-religion of end-times for all it’s worth, and both are able to extort money and support from their constituents.
I would say it is the exact opposite.
The Paris atrocities demonstrate that Climate change or global warming are by far the least of our concerns for the future.

Now the US according to Obama, has been blasting ISIS sites in Syria now for months, in his concerted effort to stop them in their tracks.
It is left as an exercise for the reader to explain howcum that ISIS headquarters was still standing for the French to bomb, if Obama, has been hitting ISIS with everything he’s got.
Well we know for sure that he is using everything he’s got, but that is not the same as saying what the US military has got.
Evidently Obama has been bringing Syrian refugees into the USA now for at least two years, but without anyone in the Congress being aware of it. Out of the several thousands that he has brought in sight unseen, apparently something like 51 or 52 of them have been Christians. No not 51%; just 51 individuals out of many thousands brought in.
And Obama told an audience of Christians to “get off your high horse.”
He’s still smarting from what the Crusaders supposedly did 1100 years ago to interrupt the beheading spree of Obama’s ancestors.
And he’s holding modern Christians accountable for that ??
I know a (very) few Christians; and none of them would fit Obama’s view.
So we already have thousands of potential jihadists, in the USA, and the Congress didn’t even know it was happening.

I agree __ but I would also add: One cannot expect the type of people who believe in CAGW charter and who then go there to demonstrate, to be anything but out of control and without focus.
The massive curtailment of individual liberties in the name of safety for the world’s elite as they attend Climax Paris will give the world a glimpse of what the future holds if we let the warmists win.
If there was any moral authority in play, the climate change game would be exposed as a sham allowing more focus on immediate and severe global concerns, like terrorism, genocidal maniacs in parts of Africa, sluggish economies, increasing levels of poverty, to name a few.

They are ably assisted by useful gullibles who may indeed think that they are saving the world after all the politicians have been playing a long game on this one and there are young ‘millennial’ voters whose entire education has been built on the horrors of global warming (even though there has been none in their entire lives). It is the only area of education that has remained relatively consistent.

They also plan to use the money to subsidize those in lower income brackets. If they are just going to give it back in subsidies, what is the point?

The positive is that it is a tax and not cap and trade. With taxes the money goes to the Province and they MAY, just may use it for something useful. If it is Cap and Trade it ends up in Swiss bank accounts.

Natural gas will be hit with a hike because of the tax “along with small changes in the price of electricity.”
The tab for the average household has been calculated to be about $320 in 2017 and $478 to $500 in 2018.
By 2030, the yearly tab is predicted to be in the neighbourhood of $900.
Hopefully you will be able to reduce your transfer payments to Quebec, although with a Quebecer in charge who has his fathers legacy to continue, I wouldbt be hopeful.
And don’t stand near the exits as the businesses pack up and leave taking their money and jobs with them. After all, they have given them time to plan a move out. I think it really needs the complete collapse of one of these states to so how stupid they are.

First there will be no more oil sands dev until prices go back up to $80 and stay there. The only reason it is still profitable (slightly) is that the Canadian gov devalued their dollar by ~30%.
Second all the new plants coming online are natural gas because coal can’t compete with it. So phasing out what is already being phased out is nonsense.
Third the joke of a CO2 tax will not seem funny to Albertans as the la-nina hits next year and we enter a colder phase of climate for the next several years.
Fourth the oil and gas industry is the life blood of the province. It is being hammered by low prices with layoffs happening weekly in the O&G plus secondary support industries and third level (ie EVERYTHING ELSE). The only carbon emissions will be all the people moving back to the other provinces where they came from. Sad but true. When things go bad in Alberta they don’t just slow down, they go into reverse.
The Canadian government didn’t devalue the dollar as it is a floating currency on the world market just as the U.S. dollar is.

I watched part of the interview. To her credit, the Sky News interviewer managed to keep a straight face when he said quite unequivocally that a drought in Syria was the reason that a bunch of murderous psycopaths were killing unarmed civilians around the world.
Perhaps they’d never had a drought in that part of the desert before, but I can remember the great drought of 1976 in England, and it didn’t have the same effect on the local population. Thank goodness for the British stiff upper lip.

Some may have come to the conclusion that this scam is the deliberate diversion from the catastrophe brewing in the global banking system. How many future generations must all this debt ( no doubt completely under-reported) be allicated to? Or is the number approaching infinity? I am all for saving the world from bureaucracy and failed socialism , but not from the debt created by central banks and fractional reserve fraud. The awful consequence of this AGW global climate fraud is that real science will be forever tarnished.

It would seem that George Orwells novel 1984 was very true like he had travelled to the future. The new elite it would appear are using it as a guidance manual. Newspeak is now common and many minions follow, all hail big brother. I am now nearing the end of my life but if I was young I would rebel, much like the hero of the story. This has been going on for quite a while. Massive government indebtedness is termed ‘investment in the future.’ Hard work, inventiveness and intelligent money management resulting in wealth is termed ‘luck in the lottery of life.’ Income redistribution is justified by the assumption that the wealthy got that way at the expense of the poor. Socialism, communism and any form of collectivism (killed hundreds of millions) have been renamed fairness and social justice. The indolent, grifters, addicts, criminally irresponsible and petty criminals are deemed ‘victims’ for whom community organizers (nice name for socialist/communist agitators) demand social justice. The victims are handsomely recompensed for their victimhood. Bad things get renamed in a way that makes them sound OK, e.g. retarded becomes challenged, fat becomes husky, ugly becomes great personality etc. Unfortunately fat, dumb and ugly people have yet to be compensated for their condition. Meanwhile innocuous things that politically powerful interest groups come to loathe get redefined, e.g. guns, second hand smoke and CO2 become insatiable killers that must be stopped. They’ve become the best hobgoblins politicians have ever had with which to alarm the populace:

OTOH, they might strike the same deal as at the last 20 meetings; a promise to reach a deal at the next meeting, COP 22.
It’s like 40 pirates surrounding a pile of treasure attempting to divvy it up. Some will stab the next guy in the back to increase their own share of the treasure. The cooks and cabin boys will argue for an equal share but get shouted down and told they will get a lesser share… next time. Finally, the pirate captain will decide that, since there is no agreement, they will all go ashore and bury the treasure and work out the details after the next raid. Whereupon, the captain’s trusted lieutenants shoot all the others after the treasure is buried and the captain then shoots the lieutenants.
The problem with these meetings is a large number of the attending countries are looking to be the captain and so take all the loot. The trouble is that they all recognize that all of the other erstwhile captains are pursuing the same strategy; be the only one to get the loot. The potential lieutenants know the end game and will not sign on.
So, another meeting must be scheduled to once again attempt to divvy up the loot.

In the short few weeks between the Paris attacks and the conference opening, more money will allocated for global military and police anti-terrorism efforts than the wildest dreams of the climate mooches at the conference. None of those investments will be green or sustainable and no one will suggest they should be. When you are up to your ass in alligators, it’s easy to forget that your initial objective was to clear the swamp.
The MSM jibber-jabber leading up to the conference has had its oxygen sucked up by the attacks. The propaganda-mill announcements from NOAA et al, are weirdly out of context since most people have forgotten that there even is a climate conference. In all likelihood the triumphant press release, pronouncing the huge success of the Paris conference, has already been written. A few adjustments may be made at the close of the conference, but in the “climate change” alarmist world, press releases have always been more important than reality. I was tickled by the idea of sponsoring a little competition to see who among WUWT readers could come up with the best 600-word PR, ahead of the conference, which would most closely mimic what is distributed at the close. My grandchildren said I had better things to do; they’re right!
I doubt the terror attacks will have a positive effect upon conference outcomes. It is hard to get people to commit to a perceived danger that may or may not happen at some time in the future, when there is a very real and present danger that is happening before us in the here and now.

While Hollande will get the sympathy vote from the world, remember Russia also lost over 200 of its civilians to the ISIS aircraft bomb over the Sinai. And Russia doesn’t really support the lunacy of Carbon emission caps in the face of its need to produce and sell oil and gas to the world because India and China effectively have no carbon caps. Without real near-term caps on China, everyone elses willingness to cap/cut emissions are lost in India’s and China’s huge emission growth uncertainties.
What the Paris attacks and the Russian civilian aircraft bombing does do is make further mockery of the claim that “Climate Change” is the worldbiggest threat. No one buys its any more.
Other countries have told President Obama point blank, “don’t show up empty handed, we’re tired of your promises”. The US congress has said the UN Green Climate Fund will receive no money from the United States. I would say this puts a pretty big damper on the chances of a climate change deal.
Past is prologue, so it will come as no surprise when Obama produces a COP21 agreement which would obligate the US to vast amounts of spending, as well as new measures which suppress the US citizenry and economy. Obama will use a tangled web of legal maneuverings, as he tries to sidestep both Congress and the Constitution, in order to reach his COP21 goal.
In reality COP21 is of so minor concern to most governments that it would not surprise me if the whole show was canceled because of the perceived danger to such major get-together of heads of governments. That would be the biggest fizzer imaginable – and what a laugh.
Except for the concern of the 150 countries that stand to get the big handout. They’ll agree. Thank God it isn’t a democratic vote!

Sorry Joel, after downloading the TPP PDF and searching for Climate/CO2/Environment related things, seems to me Obama gets to enforce any Agreement made in Paris as well as ALL CO2 related EPA regulations on every state in the nation or the US will be potentially sending BILLIONS in fines/damages if a 2/3 vote of a 3 person Climate panel decides the US is NOT strictly enforcing ALL of its agreed too CO2 promises. So if TPP passes, Obama has his funding mechanism. In addition, the language in the TPP also says the panel has the power to VETO any changes to our EPA laws simply by declaring it gives us an unfair trading advantage. So if TPP passes, good luck with NOT funding this nonsense.

There will be no deal, but they will resolve to endeavor to persevere to get a climate change deal sometime in the future. I have a strong suspicion that most high ranking officials will find one reason or another to stay home. Merkel will likely be there and Hollande, maybe Prince Charles, after that the honor roll is cloudy.
Where I was working back in the late 1980s was scheduled for a certain bigwig who was known for terrorizing high ranking executives with actual business questions, in public and on film.
Those of us who knew the answers to many of the actual workroom floor questions spent many hours coaching our bosses, trying to bring them along.
A week before the big review and suddenly most of the bosses found travel plans that would take them away on business for the review days and we second stringers were delegated to attend.
Somehow, the bigwig found out, or guessed accurately and two days before the big review our bosses found their travel plans and vacations cancelled. Scheduled sick leave for anything less than open heart surgery was also out.
We second stringers thought we could finally get back to work. The night before the review and not only were we second stringers put back in attending so were many third stringers. Our not too stupid bosses thought they could confuse the bigwig by crowds.
The review was just as awful for our bosses as they feared. I strongly suspect this climate conference will be viewed just as unfavorably as is possible by many egomaniacs who also tend to be paranoid.
There will be many attendees, but very few empowered to commit whole countries to deep debts.

Attribution is provided entirely by government sources, with no evidence of due diligence of the mass media to verify the evidence, much less to question the plausibility of the apparent failures of the intelligence community. The accused perpetrators, just as in the earlier Charlie Hebdo homicides, are all, quite regrettably, from an intelligence point of view, dead or missing.
The rather tardily reported claim of authorship by “ISIS” is also unverifiable, leaving the true skeptic with nothing but his own deductive processes to determine who organized this incident and why.
