Google forecasts no interest in Paris COP21

Annotated Google Big Data Query showing past and forecast interest in climate related search terms.

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

Forbes reports that, according to Google search statistics, the world’s media climate blitz has failed to date to spark any interest in global warming.

According to Forbes;

The graph above shows relative web search interest in the two terms, demonstrating that interest in global warming decreased substantially in mid-2010 and by mid-2013 dropped equal with searches for climate change, exhibiting a more than ten-fold decrease in public interest. Searches for climate change increased from 2006-2010, but in the last three years have been stable at their early 2005 levels. Put simply, the public simply isn’t searching about the topic anymore, suggesting they either aren’t interested or they feel they already know what they would like to know about changing climatic conditions. Google News searches exhibit a nearly identical downward slope suggesting that the public isn’t searching for the latest breaking climate news either, indicating an overall decreasing interest in the topic.

On the other hand, even if public interest is waning, media coverage certainly isn’t.

Read more:

Out of interest I modified the original Forbes search terms (see the Forbes article for the original), to produce the graph at the top of this page. The modifications were adding the terms “COP21”, “COP 21” and “Paris Climate Conference”, and ticking the box to include Google’s search forecast for the next few months. Click here to see the Google big data web page.

Forbes reports there are a few exceptions to this general complete lack of interest. Small impoverished island states and some third world countries, which have been blitzed with dubious predictions of imminent climate catastrophe, and bombarded with empty promises of climate cash, are showing strong interest in climate issues. I suspect interest will rapidly wane in the wake of the upcoming Paris conference, when they realise it has all been a load of hype.

yr: “We’re doomed”
Well RoHa, if “We’re doomed” then, just maybe, it’s because our betters, WHO REALLY UNDERSTAND THE URGENCY OF THE MATTER!!!, and who have been forever pushin’ their “world-has-a-fever”, scare-mongering hype, never chose, at the same time, to PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACHED!!!NEVER CHOSE TO LEAD FROM THE FRONT BY INSPIRING PERSONAL EXAMPLE IN MATTERS OF CARBON REDUCTION!!!
And so, RoHa, all the hive’s little-“sharpie”, wheedling, doom-butt, bogey-man, “greenwashed” flim-flam, rolled out as pretexts to pick the pockets of us coolie-trash, nobody hoi-polloi, came accross to us–“us” being, again, “us peons”, whom t the hive holds in such contempt, and is so anxious to fleece and boss-around and put through a Gaia-friendly mass-cull–as just the agit-prop, Gruber-tested, rip-off flackery of yet another of the hive’s never-ending, dystopian hustles. I mean, like, let’s be honest, RoHa, you hive-tools are such transparent bull-shitters, right, guy? And that’s the real problem, RoHa, as if you didn’t know.
P. S. It seems you’ve got hive-connections, RoHa. So could you ask some of your brazen-hypocrite, carbon-piggie, good-comrade enablers, in on the deal, to lift their sucking snouts from their flunky-grade troughs long enough to calculate the “dead baby/dead polar bear equivalents” that the up-coming, COP 21, CO2-spew hive-swarm will cost humanity and the biosphere? And did you ever happen to consider, RoHa, as you stew in your “We’re doomed”, worry-wart juices, that all the hive’s incessant eco-confabs could have been and could be easily held as a zero-carbon (i. e., zero “dead babies” and zero “dead polar bears”) video-conferences? OH!!!THE HUMANITY!!!
P. P. S. I get the impression from your very last comment that you may have been speaking ironically in your original comment, RoHa. If so, and if my comment, here, is a figurative “shoe” that doesn’t fit, then, please, my apologies, RoHa, for tryin’ to jam your out-size tootsies into such a dainty, glass slipper. Regardless, there are plenty of hive-hoofs that the “shoe” does fit and their owners know, only too well, who they are.

Yr: “Don’t get trolled by some simple sarcasm.”
Two things Hugs:
-There is nothing about RoHa’s original comment that is suggestive of “sarcastic trolling” (not even a “sarc” tag). Indeed, the comment reflects just exactly the mentality of your basic-issue, brainwashed, hive-abused true-believer (usually some socially-incompetent, snot-nosed, “dumb”-kid dork)–so it could very well have been a serious-minded, Gaia-freak comment (“kokoda”, “RockyRoad”, and “Patrick” also didn’t “get” that RoHa’s comment was just “sarcastic trolling”, I note).
-On the other hand, RoHa’s second comment suggests the possibility that RoHa’s first comment was ironic in character–which I already considered in the “P. P. S” portion of my above comment. But I only viewed RoHa’s second comment just as I was about to hit the send button and launch my “rant”. And I didn’t want to waste my “rant”. So I just threw in that little, precautionary “P. P. S” business and let fly.
Understand, Hugs, I like screwin’ with the hive and my vehicle to do so–my shtick, such as it is–is “rants”. And if some “sarcastic trolling” (as you term it), inspires me to a little, hive butt-kicking, in which I amuse myself, if no one else, then why should I not use “sarcastic trolling” as the take-off point for a self-indulgent riff, that rubs the good-comrades’ noses in some uncomfortable-truths?
Not quite sure, Hugs, but is all that “friendly” advice, you offered-up in your above comment, really just you guilelessly helpin’ out an ol’ buddy, or is it, on the contrary, more along the lines of a weasley, little-sneak, passive-agressive smooth-move, on your part, designed to slip me a clever-lad, booger-flick “put-down”? If the latter, then “STUFF IT, HUGS!!!” And if not, then thank you for your lovely comment, Hugs, and its useless counsel, that is so very, very important to moi.

Yr: “Mike, sit down and take…etc”
Okay, it’s pretty clear that between you two, RoHa and “Hugs”, I’m dealin’ with some form of a tag team, as I suspected: One real and one a sock-puppet? Two electronic-fiction bots, with no independent identitiy, serving as sock-puppets to one another? A wanker and a doppel-wanker? Two “Paracas Skull” pea-people in an alien-DNA, mutant pod? So many possibilities.
And since you seem to have the bigger mouth, RoHa, I take it that you’re the alpha-weenie and Hugs is your beta-weenie, “me-too” side-kick? Unless, of course, you’re just the “mouth-piece” for the RoHa & Hugs, dynamic-duo act, and it’s really the other way around.
O. K., RoHa, so you’re actually encouragin’ me to have a “cup of tea”? Wild surmise: Are you Russell Seitz, by any chance? So I’m guessin’ here, RoHa, that you’re either a Brit–in which case you have an excuse, of sorts, I suppose–or you’re some sort of self-loathing, Anglophile American, driven by your status-anxiety pathologies to try and score points with the real-deal, Public-School, sneer-magnet “swells”, you’re so desperately tryin’ to impress, by using smarmy, kiss-butt language that subliminally lets-on that you’re no defender of the “Boston Tea Party”, even as those from whom you seek approval contemptuously regard your needy best efforts as the pesterings of an over-eager, tag-along, twit-wannabe, Yankee-Doodle phony.
And may we finally imagine, RoHa, that your interest in proper breathing derives from a life-long passion for Yoga and that you’re a Yogi-master of the “Suppository-Head” pose? And don’t try to deny it, RoHa, because I have this photo of you, “in action”, taken from your Facebook page: “&”.

To me, nobody special, and a relative newbe on these threads, the original comment by RoHa did seem like sarcasm, I think because of the context, including the comment above it . . I can understand how it might be seen as serious, given what I have seen coming out of folks who might make that comment seriously, but on this site . . that’s a very rare bird. Just appearing to be such a critter caused me to think sarcasm.
There is a pro-CAGW contingent, but it’s not made up of “true believers” as far as I can tell. It’s pysops stuff, cointelpro type insertions into the dialog. The arguments are typically convoluted attempts to blunt the slicing and dicing the folks here routinely do on any and all aspects of he CAWG Siants charade. I enjoyed your rant, with a bit of queasiness due to what I “knew” was prolly coming next, but around here you can just calmly state your case . . none of what you wrote is unusual here in terms of thoughts/ideas.
If such a bird as you thought you saw does appear, it’s not going to have anymore impact that CO2 does on a hurricane . . so don’t scare it off, let it watch for awhile, who knows? it may learn a thing or two.

Nevertheless, I do want to make the point that I don’t “whinge”. And, with the single, national-embarrassment exception of David Appell, Americans, generally, don’t “whinge”. Rather, “whinging” is a primitive, behavioral abnormality, unique to the world’s “tea-drinker” nations (not to include the Far East), except as previously noted.

Hi Alan. You and RoHa are right! We are all doomed! We are all gonna’ die! And, I’m not just talking about my sister, my older sister.
You see, yesterday afternoon I was sitting at the local neighborhood bar (like that’s anything new). And, inward sultrified (that’s a sultry walk) this African woman. How did I know? Well, aside from her skin tone it was her manner of dress; a truly stunning combination of Western fashion and native garb highlighted by unique jewelry. Of course she was tall and slim. And, of course, that Western fashion had to include a rather deep neckline into which the necklace hung. (Try not to make it obvious you’re looking Tom – just try.)
“That’s a really nice necklace you have there.” (Well, what other excuse could I use?)
I found out she was from Zambia. (I guess I was right – she was from Africa. I mean, Zambia’s in Africa, isn’t it?) I mentioned to her that she must be a world traveler. She told me that I (this white suburban former boy) looked like one too. Since the extent of my world travels was limited to Appleton, Wisconsin; Gary, Indiana; and Danville, Illinois; I figured I better come clean and tell her I wasn’t. She talked about Victoria Falls and was impressed that I knew about it. She said, “Well, that just shows you’re a world traveler in your mind.”
I’m dead I thought. I must be dead. I must’ve lived a good enough life because I must be in heaven. I must be dead and in heaven. But, I wasn’t; I was in hell. You see, just then, of course, of course, of course … the fiancé shows up.
They have to leave for the airport. She introduces me and tells him she’ll have another drink and be right out. (In other words; ‘Get lost while I talk to this total stranger, Tom.) He leaves as if he’s been through this exercise a million times. And, he has. She says to me, “I like to mess with him.”
Then she gives me her phone number. Forever more I will be tortured. Probably by him if I call. And, probably by my own mind; thinking about what joy, what fulfillment, what ecstasy; I might be missing in the waning days of my life if I don’t.
We are all doomed. It’s true. Nobody can dispute it. In the end, everything else in life, or a bar, is just a dream. The only thing worth concentrating on is the alcohol content of the cold Guinness in front of you.

@Margaret Smith,
Thank you for your kind note, however, I was aware of the meaning of “hoi-polloi” you cited (except that I use the term in the more expanded sense of the “masses”). Although apparently unclear, my earlier comment sought to brandish, as a badge of honor, the dismissive terms applied to us “little guys” by our hive-“betters” (with a little hyperbole, maybe). In that regard, I employed the phrases, “us coolie-trash, nobody hoi-polloi” and “us peons”. So I think a careful reading of my comment will reveal that I used the term “hoi-polloi” correctly–but maybe not.
Undoubtedly, my rant’s typical, noodling-around character contributed to the confusion I appear to have caused you, Margaret, and appreciate your good-sport efforts to wade through my previous comment, attempting to make heads or tails of the whole convoluted, perhaps even bewildering deal.

It would be almost too wonderful to be true if Paris were to experience bitterly cold weather during COP 21. I can just see all those tropical country delegates trying to control their chattering teeth as they claimed the globe is warming too much.

Interest peaked in 2009/2010, about the same time as the leaked CRU emails. Whether the CRU was exonerated or not, by a slightly biased auditor, people were smart enough to label the whole thing as a hoax. We are not as dumb as they think we are.

It is still more than likely they will have to put out last second scare campaigns-make mountains out of molehills and cry out this is our last chance. Mind you, the binding bids of suicide from Sovereign nations have already been taken. The UN is not about to cease in its quest to deceive the nations of the planet to sign away their sovereignty and freedom. Meanwhile, we all have to strive to expose the gigantic FRAUD that is the UN. It was a fraud from day one.

I think you are right about the interest shown by small impoverished nations. NGC will generate interest.
The majority of the warming in the last 150 years was caused by solar cycle changes, rather than the increase in atmospheric CO2. An observation to support that assertion (prove that assertion) would be significant global cooling.
This is one of the first NGC stories. Unfortunately the media interviewed the cult of CAGW so the entire story concerns zombie theories and manipulated data.
The cult of CAGW did not mention the fact that there is a cold blob that has started in the Northern Pacific and there has been a cold blob in the southern hemisphere for almost three years. I am curious when the cult of CAGW will inform the public that the solar cycle has been interrupted and there was no AGW. AGW has the fraud of the millennium.

Why some scientists are worried about a surprisingly cold ‘blob’ in the North Atlantic Ocean

Greenland Ice sheet melt started two months late, last summer.
The cult of CAGW neglected to mention that the Greenland Ice Sheet gained 200 Gt 2014/2015.
Big surprise, when there is an abrupt change to the solar cycle the planet cools.

The peculiar solar cycle 24 – where do we stand?
Solar cycle 24 has been very weak so far. It was preceded by an extremely quiet and long solar minimum. Data from the solar interior, the solar surface and the heliosphere all show that cycle 24 began from an unusual minimum and is unlike the cycles that preceded it. We begin this review of where solar cycle 24 stands today with a look at the antecedents of this cycle, and examine why the minimum preceding the cycle is considered peculiar (§ 2). We then examine in § 3 whether we missed early signs that the cycle could be unusual. § 4 describes where cycle 24 is at today.

The red on this graph is caused by solar wind bursts which in turn are caused by coronal holes, not sunspots. When the coronal holes shrink and/or move to high latitude regions of the sun where they no longer affect planetary temperature NGW will end.

Davis and Taylor: “Does the current global warming signal reflect a natural cycle”
…We found 342 natural warming events (NWEs) corresponding to this definition, distributed over the past 250,000 years …. …. The 342 NWEs contained in the Vostok ice core record are divided into low-rate warming events (LRWEs; < 0.74oC/century) and high rate warming events (HRWEs; ≥ 0.74oC /century) (Figure). … …. "Recent Antarctic Peninsula warming relative to Holocene climate and ice – shelf history" and authored by Robert Mulvaney and colleagues of the British Antarctic Survey ( Nature , 2012, doi:10.1038/nature11391),reports two recent natural warming cycles, one around 1500 AD and another around 400 AD, measured from isotope (deuterium) concentrations in ice cores bored adjacent to recent breaks in the ice shelf in northeast Antarctica. ….

During Dansgaard-Oeschger cooling cycles and during the interglacial terminating Heinrich events the jet stream increases in speed which results increased dust deposited on the Greenland Ice sheet. (Factor of 10 for Heinrich events. The dust comes from China.) The increase in wind speed, the increase in low level cloud cover, and the reduction in cirrus cloud cover causes the roughly 10C drop in high latitude ocean temperatures.
Greenland ice temperature, last 11,000 years determined from ice core analysis, Richard Alley’s paper. William: As this graph indicates the Greenland Ice data shows that have been 9 warming and cooling periods in the last 11,000 years.

Surging Jet-Stream Winds Hinder U.S.-Bound Flights From Europe
Stronger westerly headwinds for U.S.-bound flights are stretching out travel times, forcing some planes to stop for refueling. Trips such as London to New York, a busy business route, are running almost eight hours — 45 minutes longer than voyages in September.
Two Philadelphia-bound American Airlines flights, one from Brussels and the other from Amsterdam, had to touch down on Jan. 11 to refuel in Bangor, Maine, said Scott Ramsay, the carrier’s managing director of its integrated operations center. The journey from Brussels took 9 hours and 16 minutes, about an hour more than three months earlier, according to industry data tracker FlightAware.
Higher Costs
Flights across the Atlantic to eastern U.S. cities in December 2013 averaged 19 minutes later than a year earlier, according to industry data tracker Travel times in December 2014 were similar to those in 2013, MasFlight’s data from more than 1,300 flights a year showed.
With the threat of increasingly strong headwinds every winter, airlines face higher costs on those westbound flights with the use of extra fuel and the crew’s time.
“When you were planning to fly non-stop, stopping for fuel costs money,” said George Hamlin, president of Hamlin Transportation Consulting, who has more than 40 years of experience in commercial aviation and aerospace.

Forbes reports that, according to Google search statistics, the world’s media climate blitz has failed to date to spark any interest in global warming. The reason is simple … everyone knows that leading up to COP21 in Paris, the UN has gone about its business, patiently and skilfully, to ensure that the international agreement controlling fossil fuel energy will be signed in December by governments without the farce experienced in Copenhagen.
One of the last obstacles was Tony Abbott, Australia’s Prime Minister, who was a climate change sceptic. Lord Christopher Moncton had previously warned about the toppling of Abbott before the Paris Summit in favour of a Malcolm Turnbull led government (Turnbull being a global warming alarmist). Now that that has just happened, it’s almost certain that virtually all countries that matter are locked in. The agreement will at last be signed, and the ‘FIFA style bribery’ amongst poorer nations will have succeeded as they get their share from the the redistribution of wealth from the wealthy countries.
But what I anticipate, based on sound climate forecasting principles, is that as the world’s politicians and bureaucrats celebrate in Paris, Paris will experience one of the coldest winters for many years… and the UN will insult our intelligence by confirming the cold weather is due to dangerous man-made global warming.

Well it seems that China has just blown COP21 out of the water. The money quote from Xi’s speech as follows:
“””Looking around the world, the peace and development remain the two major themes of the times,” the Chinese leader said at the summit in New York.
“To solve various global challenges, including the recent refugee crisis in Europe, the fundamental solutions lie in seeking peace and realising development.
“Facing with various challenges and difficulties, we must keep hold of the key of the development. Only the development can eliminate the causes of the conflicts,” Mr Xi said.””
DEVELOPMENT…repeat after me….DEVELOPMENT. No sustainable in there at all however the BBC spin it.

Most of my more intelligent friend realize that the Climate Change rhetoric is aimed at educing the entropy of living, so that the world might live a little longer. No t a bad thing in itself. However, population change, the real bug-a-boo, is best restricted by successful families who have little to fear and plenty to eat. Been proven over and over. Family size drops with prosperity. That’s one reason why the top 1% is only 1%.

September 27, 2015 5:16 am

The recent change to the AP Style-Guide, dropping the use of the “D-Word” when writing about Climate Change, was probably a tactical marketing decision based on googlish feedback. The internet allows publishers to count the mouse-clicks to know if a word, slogan, title, etc. change is generating +/- volume for an individual story; 1/0. If a news consumer were to explore the issue of “climate change” they might have wondered why the people doing all the shrill name-calling are the good guys?
The mainstream media has decided to hide their claws and fangs as they go after us “non-believers”. Is that what we are now? I was hoping the MSM would go all in, double down and start calling us sceptics things like demon or warlock. And we could call them climate necromancers, but no, cooler heads have prevailed.

Our rulers do NOT want us interested in the Paris talks. September 27, 2015 12:31 pm

When cool periods occur does co2 fall with temperature?

Reply to  Sparks
September 27, 2015 7:57 pm

As I understand it, yes in general, due to increased uptake by surface waters among other things. Cooler water can absorb more CO2, as the surface temps rise again, warming water releases part of it’s then “excess” CO2 load. With the oceans as vast an deep as they are that’s a big part of the complex cycling that’s always going on. Plants tend to take up more CO2 in warm weatther, less in cool, so that’s another factor . .

September 27, 2015 1:43 pm

When you are force fed, you don’t have to look for a meal. It doesn’t make a difference if people have stopped being interested, the news media keeps on failing to ask questions about why so much of tax payers money has been spent with nothing to show for it. When the number of searches for the pause or temperature adjustments go up, give me a call.

September 28, 2015 12:04 pm

emsnews, Joseph, DDP, etc,
Of course you’re making valid points, the perps don’t want the public at at large to be too attentive to the details of the con, but when they pulled the ‘consensus’ rabbit out of their hat, so to speak, they set in motion forces that are not easily controlled by press releases and celebrity endorsements and such, it seems to me.
They set a great many otherwise busy minds that were being swept along by the “show”, but know the basic nature of the scientific appraoch, to wondering (my own included), And as the years without continued warming continued to pass, the con became more and more difficult to conceal effectively, since consensus . They initiated a “shelf life” sort of aspect to the whole presentation which is growing rather long in the tooth, among other things.
And now, the claims of consensus and the debate being over ring very hollow, which is to say the “cover” many knowing/wishful thinking participants in the overall charade once saw as warm and cozy, has become tattered and drafty. They know many people they must deal with to get anything done can see right through it, and will not feel so safe in “going along to get along”.
In light of this circumstance, I believe this really is their last chance to seal this deal, so to speak. That they must do so without much public support, in tough and unpredictable economic times, means the entire edifice of the mass media “bully pulpit” the hyper-wealthy criminals on high have purchased, is at risk of crumbling. Just barging ahead with a great fanfare may not be Plan A anymore. We may yet live to fight another day . . and if you don’t lose, long enough, you win.
Let’s stand our ground I say, and go down with honor, if we are really doomed.
