Guardian / leaked Canadian Government memo

The Guardian has published excerpts of what it claims is an internal Canadian government memo, which suggests that the Canadian government is far more worried about Climate extremists, than Climate Change.
According to the Guardian;
“The US security establishment views climate change as real and a dangerous threat to national security. But Canada takes a very different view, according to a secret intelligence memo prepared by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The memo, stamped “Canadian eyes only”, repeatedly casts doubt on the causes of climate change – the burning of fossil fuels – and its potential threat.
The 44-page intelligence assessment of Canada’s environmental protest movement was prepared for the government of Stephen Harper, who is expected to roll out new anti-terror legislation.
In the memo, obtained by Greenpeace and seen by the Guardian, the RCMP repeatedly departs from the conclusions of an overwhelming majority of scientists – and the majority of elected leaders in the international arena – that climate change is a growing threat to global security.
Instead, the memo on the “anti-Canada petroleum movement” presents continued expansion of oil and gas production as an inevitability, and repeatedly casts doubt on the causes and consequences of climate change.”
The memo, at least the excerpts published by the Guardian, suggest that the green extremists try to avoid casualties when conducting criminal acts. But since the radical greens have no problem with using improvised explosive devices, arson, sabotage, theft and break and enter in pursuit of their anti-petroleum agenda, a credible threat exists to the safety of both the members of the groups conducting illegal acts, and to oil workers who operate the facilities targeted by the green terrorists.
The fact that this internal memo was leaked to Greenpeace, suggests that green activists may have successfully penetrated at least some of the Canadian government agencies tasked with maintaining public safety – a development which seems likely to increase the concern of Canadian authorities.

This time last year I had about 8 foot high snow piles lining my driveway. This year, 3 feet, and not the whole length. Last year the snow started in November and the same snow was still on the ground in April. Right now, although lightly snowing, the lawn is clear (except for the driveway edges)
I’ve never, EVER felt that one month or even one year’s weather should be reason to be concerned. After all, I’ve been looking at Environment Canada’s records, and according to them the historical weather events that I clearly remember didn’t happen. So in 3 years you can look forward to this cold snap no longer having happened.

Its a fact that Saudi and US money(Tides,Rockerfeller etc etc) given to “EnviroMENTAL” groups are trying to shut down the O&G business in Canada. Some indication Russian money as well. Its big money, and the money is really all about trying to keep Can oil(competition) off the world market through any means possible. There are some useful idiots, but its mostly paid protesters.

The quote is truncated. It should read, “overwhelming majority of feather-bedding climate scientists”.
I know lots of scientists. Those from the physical sciences are overwhelmingly in disagreement with the position of the UNFCCC and the IPCC on the matter of CO2 and climate, believing that there as a lot of hyped and overstated, claimed physical effects. It is bad math contradicted by observations and historical data and proxies. I find in particular geologists are completely unconvinced by the alarming claims. So far I have not found one ‘believer’ in the geological community.
That they do not ‘speak up’ is hardly surprising. When something is so obviously wrong, what is there to talk about?
They also may not wish to negatively influence the livelihoods of their fellows in the climate research departments. Sometimes it’s easiest to just walk away than start to fight.
I work in the oil and gas in Northern Alberta , my wife pointed out a face book page that stated the poster was on a frac site and that birds fell out of the sky dead and it was a wasteland where nothing would ever grow again . She asked me if I wanted to comment and i told her that “You can’t fix stupid ” left it at that . Yikes – I am a historian, and all dates seem familiar. In this case, a typo – obviously 2013.
Given the temperature trends for North America over the last 16 years, we will soon be suffering the same winter weather as was common around 1913.
Easy, the precursors of fracking go all the way back to the 1860’s when nitroglycerin charges were detonated in hard rock formations. Some guy actually patented a device called a “torpedo”. I can’t remember exactly how it worked, but effectively it directed the explosive force laterally from the borehole, fracturing the surrounding formation.

I drove home past the Milton gas-fired power station located next to Hwy 401 yesterday. It was cranking out steam you could see for miles through the clear, frigid, Arctic air. Those power stations are needed to offset the useless, expensive Ontario-subsidised windmills that are not turning from Perth to Bruce Counties.
We are paying a premium of about 50% for the NG electricity over baseline and a factor of 8 for the wind power. The price of electricity is shooting up, plunging more and more people into energy poverty. Last night it was -28 C in Waterloo.

Crispin, Vivian Krause poiinted out some time ago, a Change.org page that stated “a project of Tides Canada”. The page was instantly modified to remove the connection. The address of both seems to be the same, a maildrop in Vancouver. At least at the time.
I wonder if they know what their world would look like if we go along with their agenda? No petroleum development would put most of them out of a job. No heat, no car, no electricity. That would be a lot of fun. Where I live there is a campaign against burning wood, so after they eliminate all other sources of energy, on a rainy day, I can’t even build a campfire to get warm. Neighboring tribes will easily take over.
Here in West Virginia I read the other day that over 50% of the homes were heated with firewood, either interior wood stoves of the now popular outside wood furnaces. I wish them luck with trying to shut that down.

West Virginia has a population density of 75 per square mile. A University of Oklahoma study suggest that the average homeowner who burns 3.5 cords of wood per heating season needs 10.5 acres to supply wood in perpetuity. There are 640 acres per square mile. You can sustain 60 households per square mile. If each household has on average 3 people, that’s 90 per square mile. Definitely in the ball park if you live in West Virginia. For NJ (1210/sq mi), maybe not so much.

Well almost.
At 52-22 North and 114-55 W we produce lots of NG but there is no NG service.
I heat a 3000 square foot house with wood. I get warmed 7 times: cutting the trees down, bucking them up, hauling and splitting them, filling the wood box, hauling out the ashes .., and oh yeah – burning them in my fireplaces. For when I am not home to stoke the fires, I have a super insulated house with solar gain windows, a water to water heat pump, a back up hot water propane tank, some back up electric heat for key areas (like well houses) and a 12 kW propane powered backup generator.
It gets down to 40 below at this latitude and the wood fired masonry fireplace keeps it toasty.
On top of that, I end up burning way more deadfall every year than the 5 or 6 cords of winter firewood. Trees are amazing. I worry more about them encroaching on my pastures than I do about them disappearing.
An additional benefit of wood heat is I don’t waste time driving to the city gym. I have all the exercise I need sitting in the woods around my house. Although in lazy days, I just saddle up a horse and ride out into the crown forests outside my farm gate.
I don’t worry about the trees and evapotranspiration where I live. Maybe if I was in Utah or Nevada …

Suzanne Goldenberg once commented publicly one of my WUWT guest essays, embarrassing herself by illustrating that she has not actually read it past the first paragraph. In this case, she is unable to see past her own biases and totally misinterprets, in fact reverses, the significance of the memo.
The crooked photos lend an air of authenticity – sort of like why opinion manipulators use 97% (and not 96 or 98) in their science-based, focus group consensus-making marketing, PR stunts and advertising.
Canada will probably have a federal election in October. Based on current polls, the Conservatives are likely to lose their majority. It looks like we can expect a Liberal minority government.
We can expect the stance of the Canadian government to change. The NDP wants to roll back Conservative anti-terrorism legislation. To stay in power, the Liberals may have to give in to the NDP on that.
In the mean time, the RCMP and CSIS will continue to do ‘stuff’. If they do the right/wrong ‘stuff’ they could swing the election. It’s happened before.
It’s almost a slam-dunk that the Canadian federal government’s position on CAGW is going to change. The NDP sits on both sides of the fence because their base is both labor and environmental. The Liberals are mostly opportunists. On that basis, we can hope that the policy change won’t be completely stupid (but no guarantees).

Good God I hope we have some common sense and don’t go down that road. The boy politician who was elected to the head of his party because of his name and he’s “just so dreamy” is a buffoon. That being said, 1 term with him at the head could put the liberal party away for at least another decade. We’ll see what happens when men with brains i.e. Harper and Mulcair tear him a new one in the debates. (I don’t like Mulcair and the NDP policies but I do believe if he ever got into power, much of his rhetoric would melt away in the face of reality).
I think the polls are grossly manipulated anyway. For some reason, the left love to make polls look like everyone is for them, presumably for the low-intelligence voters who just want to vote for whoever is popular. That tactic backfires, though, since it tends to energize the opposition into voting AND makes the laziest think they don’t need to since their side will win anyway.
I don’t think Harper will lose, but it will be a closer fight since the media has been HAMMERING anti-Harper rhetoric.

That looks like digital magnification, not an old typewriter. Note that the same letters of the alphabet are inconsistent (eg. a fat “i” and a thin “i”). This happens with digital magnification, where each part has to be represented by an integer number of pixels. With a typewriter, colour density can vary within a letter independently of line thickness, and this does not appear to be happening.
There are different shades of grey for various pixels, so your theory falsified.
Type writers do not typically do proportional type spacing, it is mono.

NCDC has been tasked by the White House to produce propaganda to help push Barack Obama’s global warming agenda through. This includes a recent press release that the current winter is one of the hottest on record in the US.
Never mind that the Great Lakes are nearing a record high for ice coverage.

Pachauri is dead meat….After winning a relaxation of the injunction, the Economic Times posted a longer article on 19 February at 4am, re-stating the allegations of the original report:
The FIR alleges Pachauri committed offences under Sections 354, 354A, 354D, 506 of IPC, which deal with outraging the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation, respectively. Prashant Mehndiratta, a senior Delhi High Court lawyer representing the complainant, confirmed that an FIR has been registered after the alleged victim’s statement was recorded, a process that took over oneand-a-half hours.
However, a statement sent to the ET from a Pachauri spokesperson stated:
The Delhi High Court has been pleased to pass order dated 17/02/2015. The said matter came up for hearing on 18/2/2015 wherein modifications have been made in the said order for defendant no. 1, 2 and 3 only.
However subject to the modifications in the order concerning defendants no 1 to 3, the order dated 17/02/2015 is applicable to the defendants and continues to be operational.
Given the fact that the said matter is currently subjudice and the Hon’ble High Court is seized of the matter, it will not be prudent or appropriate to comment anything on the matter pending adjudication before the Hon’ble Delhi High Court

Greenpeace Activists Banned from Entering India

While I don’t agree with it, at least I understand some of the arguments for adjusting past temperatures because of TOBS. So, what is the reasoning behind adjusting more recent temps upwards? Since TOBS is no longer a factor, is there some inherent problem with the thermosensors they use that makes them record lower values?

The values in the table highlight four important considerations:
1) The rate of increase for rural locations, based on as-measured (raw) values, is small
(if not, in effect, zero) at 0.11 oC/century
2) There is definitely a UHIE in that the urban raw data has a rate of increase of 0.72oC/century. This tells us that man has caused warming in urban locations. This finding should not surprise anyone. On the other hand, because the rural value is 15% of the urban value, the UHIE has not caused warming in the rural locations, and it certainly has not caused a global sense of warming other than the aspect that the urban location values when averaged with the rural values produce an average increase which is larger than that of the rural alone.
3) The rural + urban value for the adjusted data, 0.65oC/century, is still less than the 0.69oC/century published by the NCDC. Thus, likely, there are more urban than rural sites used by the NCDC.
4) And this is the “Temperaturegate” aspect: The NCDC’s massaging — they call it “adjusting” — has resulted in an increase in the rural values, from a raw value of 0.11oC/century to an adjusted value of 0.58oC/century, and no change in the urban values. That is, the NCDC’s treatment has forced the rural value to look more like that of the urban. This is the exact opposite of any rational consideration, given the growth of the sizes of and activities within urban locations, unless deception is the goal.
The criticism this makes of the NCDC’s treatment of historical data for the contiguous U.S. is the same as a recent Russian paper made of the HadCRUT treatment of historical temperature data for Russia. For a thumbnail of the points made in that paper, click here.
So instead of adjusting city/urban temperatures DOWN by around 1 deg. C or more the adjust the rural stations UP.
A population density of only 100 persons per sq. km exhibits average warming of about 0.8 deg. C compared to a nearby unpopulated temperature monitoring location.

Todd-Malmlov’s stonewalling of the OLA investigation into the launch of MNsure, and Jonathan Gruber’s role in that launch, is consistent with Gruber’s own pattern of stonewalling questions posed by other state and federal authorities.
In Vermont, for instance, Gruber has yet to respond to inquiries posed in December by State Auditor Doug Hoffman, who wants details about $80,000 of invoices submitted by Gruber and paid to him by the state of Vermont for work purportedly undertaken by unnamed research assistants.

Every winter the stratosphere over the North Pole cools, this begins when the sunlight can no longer provide the energy to heat the ozone. Without this energy, the stratosphere cools rapidly, creating a thermal imbalance with the warmer stratosphere further south. This imbalance creates a large pressure difference and combined with the Coriolis effect, creates a large strong jet stream, circumnavigating the globe in the stratosphere in an eastwards direction. This system is known as the polar night jet, and contained within it is a strong vortex – known as the polar vortex.
The polar vortex increases and decreases in strength depending upon how cold the polar stratospheric atmosphere becomes during winter. The colder the polar stratosphere becomes, the stronger the polar vortex – and vice versa. The strength of the stratospheric polar vortex influences the atmosphere below it in the troposphere.
The troposphere also has a strong vortex over the North Pole during winter, this occurs due to tropospheric temperature and pressure differences. The strength of the stratospheric vortex helps govern the strength of the tropospheric vortex and this directly affects the strength of the jet stream.
In colder stratospheric conditions the jet stream becomes stronger; the stronger the jet stream, the straighter it flows and during winter, this normally keeps it on a collision course with the UK. A powerful jet stream is associated with unsettled and milder air, often with periods of heavy rain and windy conditions as one depression after another charges in from the Atlantic.
In warmer stratospheric conditions the jet stream takes a more meandering path due to a weaker polar vortex. This allows cold air to spill further south.
Polar vortex is weak in places where there is an excess of ozone, which generates a higher temperature.

I am aware of two incidents where this actually happened:
One was the fire-bombing of the Calgary Petroleum Club.
Another was the fire-bombing of a friend’s house who was a retired oilsands executive. In the latter case, if anyone was home they could have been killed – the heat was so intense the doorknobs melted.

I am not sure what material was used for making balloons before the advent of fossil fuel byproducts. I am pretty sure the environmentalists have no idea as well. But that’s what they should have used if they had any integrity and more than 2 or 3 brain cells.
Of course it is a good thing they did not use a wood burning stove for the fuel, that could have been bad. They could have used batteries charged by solar and wind. That solution would never have gotten off of the ground and thereby been much safer than using dangerous and vile fossil fuels.
