Quote of the Week, an oldie but goodie

qotw_croppedThis QOTW comes courtesy of Willis Eschenbach, who spotted this gem in an essay from P. J. O’Rourke in The Weekly Standard, October 10, 2005 titled: P.J. O’Rourke: Two, Three, Many Katrinas (Rita disappoints the liberals).

It sounds so probable, you might actually think it is a serious quote, rather than satire.

Global warming is a fact. Now it’s up to liberals to make it a reality. Hence there is crucial importance in preventing powerful, greedy free market forces from getting in the way of worsening storms and rising sea levels. The Kyoto Accord is a good first step.

Hey this IS the Grauniad.
But, what was the typo? … a global agreement to FUND climate change… I thought these people were supposed to be opposed to climate change, now they want to fund it?

For a long time now we’ve had “a global agreement to FIND climate change…”

Hilarious :-). P. J. O’Rourke is one of my favourite authors.
HE was once asked whether he minded when his critics described him as a NAZI. His reply was he didn’t mind, because “nobody ever fantasised about being tied up and molested by a socialist!”.

P J O’rourke is a class act. He sees right through the liberal facade.

The Yoga option seems worth a try – it would surely be a lot cheaper than a carbon tax! 🙂

Another typo. It should read:

I’ve heard master yoga has a very high midichlorian count, so perhaps he can force a climate change.

P.J. O’Rourke: Two, Three, Many Katrinas (Rita disappoints the liberals)
The Weekly Standard ^ | October 10, 2005

I will take the liberty to embellish P.J. O’Rourke’s satire with this modification by me (JW),

JW satirically modifies P.J. O’Rourke’s original satirical quote to this,
“Global warming is a fact radical opportunity. Now it’s up to liberals some paid subservient and myopic institutional scientists to make it it have the illusion of being a reality. Hence there is crucial importance for all comrades in the crusade for the climate change cause to help in preventing powerful, greedy free market forces from getting in the way of us crusaders in profiting from worsening storms and rising sea levels. The Kyoto Accord is a good first step was not even close to being strong enough to coerce any independent individuals to yield their freedoms. “
Apologies to P.J. O’Rourke

. . . better? . . . . or worse . . . ?
